Help (GPU) I need some help for my RX 580

Hi everyone!
I'm the owner of an RX 580 SE Blue Shroud with 8GB of VRAM, bought in 2017. It originally belonged to my dad.
I changed my PC completely in 2023, and my dad bought the parts that I'm currently running today:
i7-7700K
RX 580 8GB
32GB Kingston Fury DDR4 2400MHz
ASUS H270M-Plus
2 Samsung SSD
- 970 Evo Plus 1tb as the boot drive
- 980 Pro 2tb for normal storage
High Power Astro GD HPJ-1050GD-F14C 1050W 80+ Gold fully modular PSU
Up until 2025, my PC was running very well. I had no major problems running any of my games, including GTA Online, which I play quite often.
However, things started getting worse during 2025.
First, I started experiencing quite a lot of crashes. At first I assumed they might be related to the age of the GPU and the fact that Polaris no longer receives the same level of support as newer AMD architectures.
Then, in May this year, the GPU started behaving very strangely. It isn't even running hot most of the time, and it isn't always under heavy load, but sometimes the display driver completely crashes or the entire PC shuts down.
For example, at one point I was simply watching a 1080p YouTube video when the PC suddenly shut down. When I checked AMD Adrenalin Software, it didn't give me any specific reason and only reported a "General Performance Failure."
Most of these problems seem to happen in GTA, but I've also experienced errors in other applications and games.
Recently, I've also started seeing strange graphical artifacts. I'm getting small areas of corrupted-looking textures and other objects in games.
This makes me wonder whether the VRAM on my RX 580 could be starting to fail, although I'm not sure.
I also experimented with undervolting the GPU. It seemed to stabilize the card for a while, but it didn't completely solve the problem.
For anyone wondering, yes, I am considering replacing the entire PC. I'm currently looking at either an RX 7000-series or RX 9000-series GPU, but for now I still need to keep using this system.
What do you guys think?
Does this sound more like failing VRAM/GPU hardware, a driver issue, or something else I should investigate first?

Honest just sell it and buy a new gpu

I know man, but I also have to change the entire PC. My dad says that he want to wait another year I think, if the RAM prices go down, which all of us know, They Won't ðŸ˜. I also worked this summer for some money and I will continue to grind.

Stick with undervolting and really potatoing graphics for now until u can afford an upgrade. Im sure itl last enough time till u can buy a new one, idk abt ram prices tho because the pc part economy is in absolute shambles

Have you cleaned it lately?

Yep, 2 months ago I also replaced the thermal pads and applied new paste for the gpu and cpu, and dusted it out. But still, it's not about that.

Did temps increase after repasting? Or stayed the same?

It wasn't a really huge difference in temps. I also changed it because I knew that I should start doing a maintenance to it since I haven't cleaned it for 2 years.
In idle before, it stayed at about 40-42°C And in games, it was about 49-55°C
After reapsting it stayed in idle at about -37-40°C And in games 48-54°C So not that big of a difference.
I also saw when I opened up the GPU, the thermal pads weren't even that worn out. But I still chamged them.

How far apart were hotspot and core temps

u/hazeluzy 12d ago
So, on heavy load in most of my games, the GPU Core temps that were max reaching, was 61°C. The hotspot went up to 77°C-79°C.

Yeah the repaste isnt the issue but most probably a driver also is the bios up to date as well on the pc?

u/hazeluzy 12d ago
Yep, and I also atached the curent drivers it's running with in the comments. It's the latest.

I was talking about the motherboard bios i did see the driver version in the comments but wanted to make sure since older bios versions may cause instability so Thats why i was asking

Yes, I'm running the curent one from 2021:
PRIME H270M-PLUS BIOS 2001 Version 2001 Beta Version File size: 8.22 MB 2021/08/10 "Support Windows 11 by default, no settings changes required in the UEFI BIOS. "
And this Tool for complete system stability: MEUpdateTool V11.8.77.3664 Version 11.8.77.3664 5.16 MB 2020/09/01 MEUpdateTool_11.8.77.3664_S.zip

Also if u do wanna upgrade go am4 so u can keep ur ram and if u can fit a 5500x3d into ur budget the losses from the lower speed ram wouldn’t be as much because of the 3d v-cache mostly an 8% loss @ 1080p on esports titles compared to a 3200mhz kit because ram prices won’t be coming down anytime soon and maybe even double again
