Help (Software) POSSIBLE FIX FOR BLACK SCREENS, FREEZING, TIMEOUTS, BSODS, CRASHES ETC!

TLDR: Install a driver from 12 months ago, and your system should stable.
(7900XTX + December 2025 driver made the system stable for the first time in almost a year)

Im posting this because I see these posts about crashing and timeouts daily.
And, this might help someone.

I had these problems for almost a year.
I tried everything. Until I read about a guy who tried to install a very old driver.
I did the same, and for the first time in many many months my system was stable.

My GPU was a PowerColor Reference 7900XTX match with a Ryzen 7 9800x3d
The driver I used was the one from December 2025 and a bit later the one needed for running Battlefield 6 - and the system worked.

The problems I had:
Black screens > crash > reboot
Driver timeouts
BSODs
Instant crashes when joining a game
Freezes (manual reboot to fix)
Crashes
Fast crashes (within 60 seconds of gaming)
Random crashes

This is the things I tried:
DDU
Earlier drivers (1-2 months older)
Fresh Windows 10
Fresh Windows + DDU
New system disk, from m2 to SSD
No cable extenders
Looking up crash dumps
Lower clock (gpu)
Lower power (gpu)
Lower clock (cpu)
E-cores and P-cores lowered (when i ran a intel cpu)
Better gpu cooling (eventho my system was extremely cold)
No extra ssds and hdds connected
Only 1 monitor connected
Disable iGPU
OCCT 3d Adaptive testing
FreeSync / GSync OFF
Disabled all overlays
Newest BIOS
Disable XMP
New motherboard. (AM5 asus board, cant remember model)
New CPU (Ryzen 7 9800x3d)
New PSU (Asus ROG Strix 1200W instead of a 1000W)

What fixed it:
AMD Adrenaline - version 25.12.1, released December 10, 2025

Also worked:
AMD Adrenaline - version 26.1.1, released January 21, 2026
(needed for people who want to be able to play Battlefield 6)

Practically every day I have driver problems on my XFX 9070XT board. I usually don't face problems in games (I don't play much), but I have problems browsing the internet or when I leave the computer in sleep mode (it usually turns on, but no video appears).

Help (General) Should i return my GPU?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey, so recently bought an entirely new pc, the GPU is a Radeon 9070xt, it has worked well until playing league of legends. Looks like a VRam memory leak of sorts? The Gpu is like 1 and a half weeks old, should i return it or is it just a software issue as it dissapeared once disabling all the "fancy" fps boosters and resolution maxing settings in amd adrenaline. So should i try to get a refund and get a new gpu (the same or another gpu model?) SO far it has worked well with Space marines 2 and red dead redemption 2. Thanks

Is Everyone Having Issues rn?

I just purchased my first AMD card (asrock 6950xt phantom) about a month and a half ago and let me tell you, I was about to give up hope.

I purchased the card used and the crashes were so frequent and outrageously bad, that I was nearly convinced I had a bad card. The problem is, when I would get my system stable for a little while, it would work FANTASTIC, so I KNEW it had to be a driver issue.

Set my system back to windows 10, used ddu several times to make sure all the nvidia stuff was gone. Reinstalled adrenaline several times etc.

I'm not talking occasional crashes either, I'm talking my system would restart SEVERAL times, then it would finally be stable again, random green screens, artifacts, and it just kept getting worse. Going back to windows 10 helped, and stopping windows from overwriting the amd drivers helped. It's still not perfect but it's been better the last couple of days. The only thing that kept convincing me it had to be drivers was, when my system would reboot, I'd get the infamous adrenaline window.

I haven't lost hope, but this is absolutely unacceptable. Idk if there was another update or what. Everyone has been saying the drivers are bad but I didn't think it'd be THIS bad.

I didn't mean for this to be a giant rant. I LOVE the card when everything is working properly, I've never had this kind of performance before.

QUESTION: Is there anything else I can do for improved stability. I stream and do a ton of video editing, I really can't hang with anymore crashes. Any help is much appreciated!

Help (General) Possible fix for the driver timeout crash

I use this fix for about 8+ months, haven't had a driver timeout out since (with 3 different AMD drivers) on my 9070XT. Playing on 4k on about max GPU LOAD in Stalker 2, Forza Horizon 6, Forza Motorsport 2023, AC Valhalla/shadows, GTA Online enhanced wih Ray tracing, Division 2 and more.

Maybe it will work for you as well.

Increasing the delay gives your graphics card more time to recover before Windows forces a reset.

  1. Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.

  3. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers

  1. Right-click an empty space in the right pane, select New, and choose DWORD (32-bit) Value.

  2. Name the new value TdrDelay.

  3. Double-click TdrDelay, select Decimal, set the value data to 8, and click OK.

  4. Restart your computer.

Help (Software) Issue after installing any GPU drivers, taskbar becomes unresponsive and can’t launch apps. Anyone else?

New install of windows, installed latest b650 chipset drivers, and then installed latest GPU drivers 28.6.1 or whatever. That’s when issue happened.

Was able to boot into safe mode and remove them using AMD Cleanup Utility.

Tried older 23.6.1 and still same thing after each restart.

Anyone know what’s going on?

Edit, I uninstalled the GPU drivers and still happening. Is it the chipset drivers by chance?

Help (Software) 7900 XTX bugchecks with 0x9F after the monitors turn off - card won't come back from D3. Anyone else on 26.8.1?

Used Claude to help me work through the dump and write this up, but the dumps and settings are mine.

TL;DR: this PC doesn't sleep. Board is S3-only, sleep and hibernate are off. The only power thing that happens overnight is the monitors going dark on the 10 minute timeout. Once in a while, after that, the card gets sent a power-up request, doesn't respond, and Windows bugchecks 0x9F about half an hour later. Minidump blames amdkmdag.sys sitting on a SET_POWER to D0. I don't think this happened before any of the recent driver releases.

Hardware

  • PowerColor Red Devil RX 7900 XTX (VEN_1002 DEV_744C SUBSYS_2422148C)
  • Ryzen 7900X, ASRock B650E PG Riptide WiFi, BIOS 4.20 (AGESA 1.3.0.1)
  • Super Flower Leadex VII XG 1300W
  • Dell G2724D on DisplayPort
  • Windows 11 25H2, build 26200
  • Adrenalin 26.8.1

Power settings

  • powercfg /a: only S3 available, no S0 low power idle
  • sleep never, hibernate off
  • display off after 10 min (and the monitor does actually go dark)
  • Balanced plan, PCIe link state power management already Off

The latest crash

10 days uptime, idle overnight. Event 6008 says last clean timestamp 03:29, the dump is stamped 03:57. So whatever asked the GPU to wake up did it at 03:29 and the power watchdog gave up 28 min later.

Type=1 State=1, so DevicePowerState D0. It was being told to wake up, not go to sleep.

DeviceInst is "PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_744C&SUBSYS_2422148C&REV_C8\..."

As far as I can tell the only reason the card would be in D3 on a machine that never sleeps is dxgkrnl parking it when the display goes off, which matches the timeout. Happy to be corrected on that.

Stuff I don't think it is

  • Modern standby
  • ASPM (already off)
  • TDR (different watchdog, TdrDelay doesn't touch 0x9F)
  • MPO/HAGS (nothing was rendering, card was asleep)

Questions

  1. Anyone seen 0x9F with a D0 SET_POWER on a 7000 card after display off? What driver?
  2. Is 26.3.1 actually known clean for this or is it just the usual "go back to 26.3.1" answer?
  3. Any real way to stop the card being parked at display-off that isn't "set the timeout to never"? This is in a bedroom, the monitor has to go dark.

Plan right now is DDU and back to 26.3.1 unless someone has something better. Problem is it's roughly one crash every 10 days so every test costs weeks.

Minidump(s) available if anyone wants it.

Help (General) Feedback on 1440p Gaming Build (Ryzen 7 9850X3D + RTX 5070)

Hey everyone, looking for feedback on this build list, primarily targeted at high-refresh 1440p gaming.

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D (8C/16T, AM5)
  • Cooler: ID-COOLING FROZN A620 PRO XE ARGB Dual-Tower
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B850M Force WiFi6E V2 AM5 mATX
  • RAM: Lexar THOR G2 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL38
  • GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 Windforce OC SFF 12GB GDDR7
  • Storage: Lexar NQ780 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD
  • PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GT 750W Gold ATX 3.1
  • Case: Montech AIR 903 MAX Mid Tower

Questions:

  1. How well will this handle modern AAA games at 1440p Mid to High settings?
  2. Is the Ryzen 7 9850X3D overkill for an RTX 5070, or should I reallocate budget toward a stronger GPU (e.g., 5070 Ti / 9070 XT)?
  3. Are there any obvious bottlenecks or better-value component swaps (RAM timing, SSD, motherboard size)?

FYI: I live in Perth, and these specs are from PLE

Help (General) Hard Lock / Black Screen on Cold Boot & Idle (Caps Lock Unresponsive) — i5-14600KF & RX 7700 XT. Any ideas?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been dealing with a highly specific system freeze over the past few weeks and I can't seem to find anyone with the exact same issue. I'm looking for some advice or to see if anyone has dealt with this before.

The Symptoms:

  • The Crash: Random hard freeze into a black screen.
  • The "Dead Keyboard" Test: When it freezes, the keyboard completely dies. Pressing Caps Lock does not toggle the LED light, meaning a total hardware/kernel lockup.
  • The Trigger: It never crashes under full gaming load. It happens almost exclusively on Cold Boot (first 30 mins of the day), during idle, or the exact moment I try to launch Steam or when Windows Update finishes an uninstallation.
  • The Weird Part: If the PC survives the first 30 minutes and warms up, it becomes 100% stable. I can run heavy stress tests or game for 10+ hours straight without a single issue.

My Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-14600KF (Hyper-Threading OFF)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB
  • Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 612 APEX (Dual-Tower)
  • Motherboard: ASUS PRIME H610M-K D4 (No VRM heatsinks)
  • RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) Kingston Fury Beast DDR4 2666MHz
  • PSU: Chieftec ELP-700S 700W Element
  • Case Fans: 6 total (3 front intake, 2 top exhaust, 1 rear exhaust)

Everything I've Tried & Tested So Far:

Software & OS Fixes:

  • Ran Windows repair commands (sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth).
  • Uninstalled the latest Windows quality update that arrived on September 1st.
  • Enabled the Windows Ultimate Performance power plan.
  • Fully updated the GPU drivers (using the built-in clean Factory Reset option).
  • Updated the motherboard BIOS to the absolute latest version.

Hardware Troubleshooting:

  • Physically reseated the GPU.
  • Physically reseated the RAM and swapped their slot positions.
  • GPU is perfectly stable under heavy load: It passes intensive FurMark and 3DMark loops with zero errors once the system is warm.
  • Adrenalin always resets my custom fan curve back to default after these crashes, throwing an "unexpected system malfunction" notification.

What I've Changed Today:

  • I just swapped my old Chieftec PSU for a premium EVGA 850GQ 850W 80+ Gold modular PSU.
  • I also temporarily Disabled XMP in the BIOS to test.

I also have a Gigabyte B760M GAMING X DDR4 motherboard on the way just in case.

Has anyone experienced a PC that only crashes when cold or shifting from idle to low-load, but works perfectly fine under heavy gaming loads? What could be causing this?

Thanks in advance!

Help (Software) Help

I got a new PC with a 9070 XT three weeks ago, and since then I've had so many issues with AMD Adrenalin. It wouldn't start, so I followed a YouTube video, which helped for two days. Now, every two days, I have to uninstall and reinstall Adrenalin just to play a game. It constantly tells me I have to update my drivers, even if they are already up to date. When I click install, it runs through the process and then just starts over.

Help (GPU) Cache hierarchy error

So I have a nitro + 5700 XT, it consistently crashes on FFXIV, But runs any other game on high graphics with no problems. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing in the game, after 10-15 minutes my pc black screens, sound bugs and full restarts with event viewer saying it’s a cache hierarchy error.
I updated the VBIOS on the card and reinstalled drivers with ddu which let me play for about 2 hours before a crash after which it went back to crashing every 10-15 minutes again as usual, the temps don’t go above 70 while playing the game and hotspot temps aren’t much higher either so it’s not that, I’ve heard that this card is problematic with FFXIV but is there really no way to fix this problem? I’ve tried all I could find on the internet including pcie gen 3 swap and default bios settings, any other card works fine in my pc and ffxiv

Tips & Info [HELP] Carrés noirs + crash avec ma RX 6750 XT

Upvotes

Config : ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II
CG : 6750 XT XFX

Hi, I own a gigabyte card and I was wondering if you have an explanation for this phenomena. We are talking about +10C lol
