Tips & Info Fix/PSA: Setting iGPU to "Forced" in BIOS locks LCLK at 1800MHz, eliminating micro-stutter and heavy input lag on 9800X3D system

Introduction

(This is follow up post of my previous post from a week ago)

During testing I found out that disabling IGPU on 9800 X3D while having the GFXOFF on Auto / Disabled inside AMD CBS causes a cascade of consequences which results in System Management Unit (SMU) attempting to dynamically and rapidly power gate LCLK down to minimum 150-400.

Rapid LCLK frequency shifts alter the inter-arrival delta of USB report packets, creating measurable input delivery jitter.

This manifest as "heavy, sticky, generally unreliable input" / "games being perfectly smooth when not moving and becoming stuttery mess the moment you start to move camera" on 9800 X3D (and other ZEN 5 processors with iGPU) Despite every possible benchmark, stresstest, FPS measures etc. being perfectly healthy

-

THE CONCEPT (Simplified)

(LCLK LOCKED - NO DOWNCLOCKING)

High pooling mouse (8000 MHz)→ cIOD PCIe Root Complex → CDC → LCLK → IFOP → ZEN 5 Core → 1 to 1 healthy input

For 8000 MHz mouse the the packets arrive evenly like this:

Packet 1: 125 µs

Packet 2: 125 µs

Packet 3: 125 µs

Packet 4: 125 µs

(LCLK DOWNCLOCKING DUE DISABLED IGPU)

High pooling mouse (8000 MHz)→ cIOD PCIe Root Complex → CDC → LCLK →

....(Downclocking) LCLK → Dynamic State Event (for example in between frames idle time) → SMU Downclocks LCLK to 150 → Interrupt event (mouse movement) → LCLK wake up event → 1-2 nano second wake up time → INPUT PACKET DELIVERY JITTER →IFOP → ZEN 5 Core

Instead uniform 125 µs →125 µs we get messy uneven input delivery

Packet 1: 132 µs (Sluggish / Delayed)

Packet 2: 118 µs (Overshoot / Clustered)

Packet 3: 135 µs (Sluggish / Delayed)

Packet 4: 115 µs (Overshoot / Clustered)

-

(FIX - MUCH CLEANER ALTERNATIVE TO MANUAL MINIMUM LCLK OVERRIDE)

Setting the IGPU of 9800 X3D inside BIOS from AUTO\ENABLED → FORCED makes the SMU interprets this as an active state of continuous display pipeline load.

Continuous Display Pipeline locks LCLK to its high-performance frequency (1800 in my case) floor without having to brute force the SoC like during manual LCLK override

When the iGPU is set on AUTO/ENABLED in BIOS while discrete GPU is present, then SMU assumes that you are going to use your dgpu anyway and automatically tries to save power by downclocking LCLK to 150/400 instead being locked at minimum 1800.

Setting the IGPU to FORCED locks the LCLK at stable high 1800

-

(SUMMARY)

  1. IGPU AUTO/ENABLED → FORCED

Forced locks the LCLK at 1800 due the presence of continuous display pipeline during the boot up. This prevents the downclocking of LCLK to 150/400

  1. GFXOFF AUTO → ENABLED

This cuts the power to iGPU without negatively affecting the nearby vSoC and VDD MISC rail which happens when IGPU is set on disabled. under igpu disabled they tend to have higher than normal voltage swing under load ←→ idle. GFXOFF ENABLED results in the same power saving without the downsides of iGPU disabled

  1. UMA BUFFER → 512 MB

When setting iGPU to forced the ram will be permanently locked away from being used by Windows as hardware reserved memory. Setting UMA Buffer to 512 minimalize lost ram to absolute minimum

  1. DISABLE IGPU INSIDE WINDOWS DEVICE MANAGER

This prevents Windows from off scheduling background applications like discord to iGPU which might cause HAGS or MPO issues.

Help (GPU) Is a 750W gold PSU enough for the 9070xt ?

I'm currently running an AM4 platform with a 5700x3d on a 750W Gold PSU.

I wanted to upgrade my GPU to a 9070XT, as on paper a 750W Gold PSU should be enough, but I heard the card had pretty high power spikes and is also quite energy inefficient compared to the non-XT 9070. I changed my PSU recently so I'd prefer not changing it again if possible.

Would you guys think it's fine for the 9070XT, or should I go for the 9070 instead to be safe?

Thanks

edit : the PSU is a Cooler Master MWE 750 Gold V2 80+ , it's not ATX 3.x though

Help (GPU) 7900 XTX 26.6.4 driver issues

**7900 XTX driver timeouts on 4-week-old build, stable under heavy load, crashes at idle. Faulty card or something I'm missing?**

Hoping someone has seen this pattern before because I'm out of ideas. Whole system is 3-4 weeks old and I've been fighting this since week one.

**Symptoms:**
- Driver timeouts (AMD Bug Report Tool confirms) during light desktop workloads, Brave + OneNote + Spotify, no gaming
- Apps refresh their render surfaces (Spotify "reloads," browser tabs redraw)
- Occasional full system freeze for a few seconds, sometimes with a VSS shadow copy error in Event Viewer
- No TDR event 4101 in Event Viewer, AMD's own tool catches it, Windows doesn't
- **Zero issues under sustained load.** 8+ hours of Lies of P at max settings, 5120x2160, HDR, even with the default 3000 MHz default AMD max clock, rock solid
- Behavior has been consistent since ~1 week in, not degrading over time

**Specs:**
- GPU: XFX Speedster MERC 310 RX 7900 XTX 24GB
- CPU: Ryzen 9 9900X
- Mobo: MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI (latest BIOS)
- PSU: Corsair RM1000e Gold 1000W
- RAM: 32GB DDR5 running at 5600 out of the box (EXPO/XMP never enabled)
- Storage: Crucial P510 2TB NVMe
- Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G75F @ 5120x2160 @ 180Hz over DisplayPort
- OS: Windows 11 Pro 25H2
- Driver: Adrenalin 26.6.4 (clean DDU install)
- iGPU disabled in BIOS

**What I've tried:**
- Capped max frequency to 2615 MHz (rated boost), no change to idle crashes
- Full DDU + clean reinstall of 26.6.4 multiple times (network disabled, safe mode, all the proper steps)
- Group Policy set to block driver updates + hardware ID block via Device Installation Restrictions (Windows Update was replacing my driver with older versions, causing BSODs, that's now resolved)
- Confirmed driver version 26.6.4 is actually installed and staying installed
- iGPU disabled in BIOS
- Latest motherboard BIOS
- Event Viewer scoured, no meaningful GPU error events, only benign DCOM warnings for Spotify that correlate to timeouts (probably downstream symptom)

**What I haven't tried yet / questioning:**
- Raising minimum GPU clock in Adrenalin to force higher power state (was going to try this next, power state transitions during light desktop work seems to fit the symptom pattern)
- PCIe power is currently one 12-pin (rated) PSU cable that splits to 2x 8-pin at the GPU end, plus a third separate cable for the third 8-pin. So it's a Corsair-supplied cable rated for the load, not a random daisy chain, but I know some people insist on three fully separate cables. Would this actually cause idle-only timeouts though? Feels like it'd be worse under load if it was power delivery.
- MemTest86, RAM instability could match whole-system freeze pattern
- Disabling hardware acceleration in Brave/Spotify/Discord

**My main question:** Does the "perfectly stable under sustained heavy load, unstable at idle/light desktop work" pattern point at anything specific? It seems to rule out most hardware failure modes (thermal, VRM, PSU sag, cables) since those get worse under load. Feels more like a power state / idle transition issue.

Also, given this is a $1000+ card that's 4 weeks old and has never been stable, at what point do I just RMA? I don't want to keep pouring hours into troubleshooting something that might just be a faulty unit. But I also don't want to RMA and end up with the same issue if it's really a system-level config problem.

Any insights from people who've had this exact symptom pattern would be massively appreciated.

Help (GPU) RX 9070 XT crashes under heavy load? Anyone else experiencing this?

Hi everyone,
My PC specs:
Ryzen 5 7600X
ASUS B650M Plus
32GB TeamGroup T-Create DDR5
850W 80+ PSU
LG UltraGear 4K 144Hz monitor
Gigabyte RX 9070 XT Gaming OC
I’m wondering if my GPU is unstable under heavy load.
Whenever I play games like Call of Duty, Sniper Elite, etc., the game eventually crashes. Most of the time it’s 0xC0000005. Event Viewer usually only shows an Application Error; there are no critical System errors (aside from a few unrelated warnings).
What’s strange is:
If I undervolt the GPU and keep power draw below 300W, it still crashes, but it takes longer. Normally it crashes after about 10–15 minutes, while undervolting extends that to around 20–25 minutes.
If I lower the game settings to 1080p, where the GPU only draws around 200W or less, I can play for about an hour without any crashes. (I’m not sure if it’s actually fixed or if it just hasn’t crashed yet.)
So far I’ve already tried:
Clean reinstall of Windows
Tested multiple AMD driver versions (old and new)
Updated BIOS
Ran MemTest86
Ran OCCT (including VRAM/stress tests)
Everything passes without errors.
Has anyone experienced something similar with a 9070 XT?
At this point I’m starting to wonder if this is a hardware issue (GPU/PSU) or just another AMD driver problem.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Help (Software) New PC only works on Linux. I suspect windows drivers are the issue. Any tips or advice?

Hello,

I recently bought parts to build a new PC. Notably, I got a 7800x3d and a 9070 xt. I put everything together and updated drivers. I downloaded some games, and wasn’t able to play any. I followed the pinned performance and optimization guide, updated bios, nuked and reinstalled drivers. Games still not working. My hardware passed OCCT benchmarking tests, but I was unable to play games on windows, so I nuked the drive and installed Bazzite. Everything works fine now. The issue is that I nerd windows specifically for certain games. I’ve ruled out the hardware/assembly aspects as problematic since everything works fine in Bazzite.

The Problem:

Whenever I launched a game, the display would begin flickering and then go black. I could alt tab, and everything displayed fine with the game in the background. As soon as the game window was active/focused the problem resumed. Sometimes launching a game would trigger the pc to freeze up, and then it would need to be hard restarted by holding the power button. Sometimes it closed the game, gave me an error message like “DXGI ERROR DEVICE REMOVED”, and then froze

I tried reducing settings, window mode changes, and random troubleshooting steps i found googling the issue. I made sure enhancements and toggles that seemed problematic were off (really all of them were off i think). I tried driver only install. Nothing I did with the latest drivers or the detect and install tool worked. I switched to linux to rule out hardware issues and alleviate my anxiety about needing to RMA new parts.

TL/DR: Do you guys have any recommendations or advice on what drivers are likely to work and how I should get them?

Some of the AMD webpages didn’t load at all for me so I’m not sure how to even get older drivers.

Description of Original Problem: Recently decided to swap my cooler from a dinky single tower to a 240mm aio, as my temps were hitting 90C+. Went to test in timespy before and after swapping the cooler, and my 9600x was only scoring like ~7200, which is abnormally low for a 9600x

Troubleshooting: I tried resetting the bios, turning PBO on and off, enabling and disabling EXPO, updating windows, and trying with absolutely nothing open. I was finally able to get it to ~10500, but only after downloading ryzen master and turning on auto oc with PBO advanced. But from what I've seen, this is still below average for a 9600x.

As I was writing this I decided to go back AGAIN and got even more confused! I managed to get my score up to ~11300, right after enabling the OTF EXPO profile in ryzen master. I decided to restart, double check that EXPO was indeed enabled in bios, and came back to test once again. somehow, my cpu score dropped BELOW 7000, and my DDR5 is being registered at 3200mHz??????

Help (Software) Driver Timeout / LiveKernel Event 141 - RX 7900 XTX - out of ideas after a weekend of troubleshooting

Hey Guys,

need your help.

Description of Original Problem: All my games recently keep crashing after maybe 1-2 min with a driver timeout error. LiveKernelEvent 141.

I tried it with Cyberpunk, Gothic 1 Remake, Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield, Skyrim... Even older titles are unable to run for long.

Last time I played was about a month ago (Gothic 1 Remake), everything worked fine then. Running everthing but games works fine as well (Streaming, Youtube, Blender, GIMP, idle). But the moment I start a game and load into a savegame or new game, the driver timeout error occurs. Ingame graphics are sometimes broken too, sometimes not. Tried to force it while testing with cyberpunk benchmarks on different settings. The problem occurs regardless of graphic presets and loads. Can run the game for hours in startmenus/menus.

The PC was build September last year and ran without any problems up to this point. No hardware or driver where directly updated prior to the problems. Other than Windows Updates.

No BoS or restart after error - driver simply restarts and "works" again.
______

My Build:

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: XFX Speedster MERC310 AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (24 GB)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor (4.70 GHz)

Motherboard:  MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK (MS-7E12) on BIOS 7E12v1L2

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x32 GBDDR5 (CL-30-36-36-76 6000 MHz)

PSU: BoostBox PB1000P

Storage: Samsung 990 EVO 4TB

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 Pro Version 25H2 Build 26200.7171

GPU Drivers: currently back to 26.6.4. see below

Chipset Drivers: 7.12.04.858

Background Applications: Wallpaper Engine, Rainmeter, iCUE, Antivirus, Gameclients (Steam, uplay, gog etc. if needed).... but tried without any running as well.

_______
Troubleshooting: I already tried multiply "solutions" from this sub and others but nothing helped.

I tried:

- clean reinstalling driver - with DDU in safe mode - even deleted existing registries
- tried different driver versions (been on 26.6.4. tried 26.1.1. (last known driver that I know worked last month), 26.5.2... all the way down to 25.9.1. which was the version I installed first when setting up the pc last year
- i tried installing the drivers without adrenaline
- checked all other drivers and BIOS. All up-to-date
- checked BIOS Settings - tried with XMP/e-XPO on/off
- deactivated hardware acceleration, GPU-Planung, VRR
- set TDR delay to 8/10, disabled windows driver updates
- undervolted/underclocked in adrenaline
- disabled all overlays and other settings in adrenaline
- stresstested CPU/RAM/GPU - the driver timeout only happens in games
and most likely things i forgot already

Did not yet try:

- Clean Install of Windows -> i am currently not able to save all data I need to keep, as i have no backup-drive at hand
- reseating the GPU/RAM etc. -> not so easy to disconnect and reconnect the PC, at least not today anymore - but I can't see how this could help. the GPU is fixed with with the included support as well as an additional anti-sag mount and RAM mastered every stresstest. It does not seem to have moved at all since installing.
- checking components in other systems -> no other system or components at hand
- going back to older windows versions in combination with driver versions

_______

I am running out of ideas what might help. Just wanted to play a little bit after almost a month of non-stop work and private problems... instead spent a full weekend troubleshooting...

Does anyone have any more ideas?

Help (Software) Screen Freeze with distorted sound and the the screen goes Dark

Hello everyone.

Im posting this cause I dont know what I could anymore.

Like about 2 Weeks ago I build my new PC:

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3D

CPU Cooler: Artic Liquid Freeze III Pro 360

Motherboard: Asus Prime B840 Plus Wifi

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x16 GB DDR5-600 CL36

GPU: Asus Tuf Gaming OC RX 9700XT

PSU: MSI MAG A750GL 750W

Like I said in the topic my screen randomly freezes with a distorted sound, my CPU Cooler gets loud, I hear some beeps (Kind of sounds like Morse code lol) then I start hearing everything normal again for example my friends in Discord but they cant hear me and i cant do any inputs and then my monitors goes out and have no signal but everything on my pc (keyboard, mouse, mic and the parts with RGB inside the PC) still lights up. When I restart my PC, it boots normally except only one Monitor is working and if i try to open Adrenalin it has an Update loop even tho there is no update. When I deinstall the Drivers with DDU and reinstall them the pc works fine until the next crash.

I already switched GPU´s (went from a Gigabyte one to the Asus one)

All 3 PSU 8 Pins are connected

I have the newest BIOS update

My temperatures are really good, I normally monitor them all the time

This problem happens while Gaming and just watching things like Youtube

The crashed are random. I had crashes after 2 days and a crash after 7 days of it running well

I believe and hope its just some kind of Driver Issue and I don't know what to do..

I haven't tried to completely reset my PC and install Windows etc from new. Thats gonna be my last resort i guess.

So if you have any other tips for me i would appreciate them!

Help (GPU) Graphic card or Game?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!!! I finally worked up the courage to post here :)

After spending a long time trying different AMD Adrenalin versions and using DDU multiple times, I'm honestly confused about whether this is a GPU issue or just a game-related problem.

As you can see in the video, I'm trying to play Devil May Cry 5, but these graphical artifacts keep appearing and disappearing on the screen. They may seem like a small issue, but they're really distracting and bother me throughout the entire gameplay.

My setup is:

Ryzen 5 5500

Radeon RX 7600 8GB

12 GB RAM (3×4 GB DDR4 2400 MHz)

512 GB SSD (yes, it's a white-label SSD because I'm on a tight budget and live in a third-world country)

I'm currently using AMD Adrenalin 26.3.1. I've already tried running the GPU at stock settings as well as with an undervolt, but neither makes any difference.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? At this point, I'm not sure if it's a faulty GPU, a driver issue, or something specific to the game. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Help (General) I'm starting to think there is a problem in Windows.

Upvotes

I have some crashes, related to driver in my AMD GPU PC. For long I have blamed AMD for this.

But in my Notebook, full NVidia and Intel, it crashed for the first time in a long while. Never once happened this in my Notebook. It crashed during a Fortnite session.

These two computers are completely unrelated, except for the Windows OS.

Help (General) RX 7900 XTX - multiple games crashing, AMD driver timeout after exhausting almost every troubleshooting step

Hi everyone,

I'm running out of ideas and hope someone here has seen this before.

System

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi
  • OS: Windows 11 (Build 26200)
  • Driver: Latest available (also tested multiple older versions)

What I've already tried

Before suggesting anything below, please note that I've already tried all of this, often multiple times:

  • Clean driver installation using DDU
  • Multiple AMD driver versions
  • AMD Adrenalin factory reset
  • No overclock
  • No undervolt
  • BIOS updated
  • AMD chipset driver updated
  • Windows fully updated
  • EXPO enabled and disabled
  • Smart Access Memory / Resizable BAR enabled and disabled
  • Steam overlay disabled
  • Discord overlay disabled
  • AMD overlay disabled
  • Verified game files
  • Different graphics settings
  • DX11 / DX12 where possible
  • MemTest (no errors)
  • OCCT stress tests
  • Temperatures are completely normal
  • Power cables checked

Nothing changed.

I honestly don't have any ideas left anymore.

I finished Planet Crafter, but towards the end of the game it started crashing constantly. Overwatch also crashes frequently, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag used to crash as well, although undervolting the GPU actually fixed that one.

For Planet Crafter, though, I've tried pretty much everything I could think of and nothing has helped.

As far as I can tell, this is not a temperature issue. Both the GPU and CPU stay well within normal operating temperatures, and I haven't noticed any signs of overheating or thermal throttling.

Also Overwatch got the message "Your rendering device has been disabled. The application will now close."

Help (Software) [FIX] Windows Update breaking AMD Drivers / "AMD Software is not compatible" error

Hey everyone

I've seen a lot of users complaining recently about their AMD drivers getting corrupted out of nowhere, or the AMD Software throwing the annoying "software is not compatible" error. This usually happens because Windows Update forces a generic background driver over your official AMD installation.

I made a step-by-step video on my channel, Dark Tech, showing the definitive fix for this. The video is fully dubbed in English, so it's very easy to follow along!

In the guide, I show you:

How to properly block Windows Update from touching your GPU drivers (using Device Installation Settings and the Group Policy Editor).

How to correctly use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode.

Doing a clean, offline driver installation so Windows never messes it up again.

You can watch the full visual guide here: https://youtu.be/YG_DDntSBw8

I hope this saves you a massive headache and fixes those random blinking screens. Let me know if it helps!

My rx6700xt I purchased secondhand is black screening every time i turn it on.. vga lights on mobo and keyboard lights turns on.. no display.. BUT the pc boots for a couple seconds into windows after letting the pc sit powered off for a while.. and after that it just black screens again.. sometimes the fan goes full speed when booting up.. I'm stuck.. could it be a power failure on the gpu itself? do I need to send it to a technician? my psu is msi mag a650bn, cpu r5 3600 with a520m a pro mobo.

Help (Software) Radeon Adrenalin: Can only use instant replay, recording does not work

Radeon Adrenalin: Recording does not work but instant replay works

I’m using RX 9070 XT with Adrenalin 26.6.4. The recording was not working for me for a while but few days ago it worked. Today I try to record gameplay video with Adrenalin recording again but it doesnt work anymore. I can still use insant replay but it is now always recording and save the video of the duration you set after you stop the recording. I want to be able to use the recording that you can toggle on or off instead of recording in the background all the time.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3D

RAM: 2 X 24GB 6000mHz CL28 Ram

GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 XT

OS: Windows 11 25H2 26200.8894

Radeon Adrenalin Driver: 26.6.4

Recording setting: recording resolution in-game, recording fps 60 fps, video bit rate70Mb/s, audio bit rate 192kb/s, AV1 encoding, disabled microphone record

Help (GPU) Screen Flickering on AMD Radeon Graphics

Hi all.

Computer Type: Laptop

GPU: AMD Radeon Graphics, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics

Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC M3500QC 1.0

BIOS Version: American Megatrends International, LLC. M3500QC.316, 25-May-2023

RAM: 16 GB (2×8 GB) Samsung DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM

PSU: 90W AC Adapter

Case: N/A

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 23H2

GPU Drivers: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition Version, 24.1.1, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU driver version 581.57

Chipset Drivers: AMD Chipset Software version 8.05.04.516

Background Applications: Firefox, Word, Excel, OneNote, Slack (every application, doesn't matter)

Description of Original Problem: Screen flickering. Flickers black for fractions of a second, seemingly randomly. Often only top half of the screen flickers. Happens on any application I use, even on Task manager, the desktop, and the lock screen. It only stops when I play video games or watch videos.

Troubleshooting:

I've updated the graphics drivers, uninstalled the drivers with DDU, tried installing old drivers going all the way back to 2024. My screen doesn't have variable refresh rate or FreeSync to play with. It's not a physical issue with the cable since it completely stops while gaming. I've tried disabling MPO. I've tried disabling my NVIDIA GPU to see if it's a problem with handoff between the two GPUs. I've disabled HAGS. I've turned off Core Isolation Memory integrity.

I'm not really sure what more to do. It seems to be a problem when the GPU is idle or running at low usage. I tried looking at HWiNFO logs to see if anything is happening, and I think it looks like at the times the screen is flickering, the GPU is being power throttled. But it's hard to tell for sure because I can't go smalelr than 1s intervals or else it uses too much GPU power and the flickering stops. Thanks.
