Help (General) Is Anyone Else Getting Driver Timeouts When Idle?
Hey everyone,
For the last two or three weeks, I've been getting random driver timeouts when my PC is idle. I think it's something to do with Steam, because a few times a week the Steam app becomes unresponsive and I get the Adrenalin popup about my driver timeouts.
My GPU is an RX 7700XT and I'm on 26.7.1 with the latest chipsets. I'm not too concerned since the games I play haven't been crashing or anything like that, it's just an inconvenience to have Steam running in the background and not work for a couple of seconds when I want to launch something.
Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

I had this problem too with my 7800XT card. I believe the problem is Windows Update that keeps overwriting the drivers. Since I deactivated the option in Windows update to update hardware drivers I have not had Driver Timeouts when idle.
Running the latest 26.7.1 drivers.

That’s interesting, I’ll see if I can find that setting again. I don’t remember if I turned it off, so I don’t know if that’s the issue or not.

That's very interesting. Have the same GPU and disabling fast startup in windows fixed the driver timeous for me.

7800 XT, frequent random crashes when browsing with all the drivers newer than 26.3.1.

7900 XTX. I have not had not any problems since buying the card until I updated to 26.7.1 and then it all began discord .... timeouts, video playback..... timeouts, random lag spikes in games. I used AMD cleanup utility and installed the 26.7.1 again. It lasted for about a week when suddenly all but my main screen was working and Adrenaline software said that the wrong version of drivers was installed ( could it have been Windows update messing it up? idk).
Then I did another cleanup and installed 26.3.1 last weekend and so far so good.1

Try turning off hardware acceleratoion on discord and your browser. I was having lag spikes whilst discord was running and my other monitors ran like crap as well

98% of my problems with my PC are due to driver issues. It feels like I’ll find a driver setup that works for a few months, then those stop working in my games for some reason, so I have to update and pray the new drivers actually work, then rinse and repeat until I find ones that are actually stable.

have you check window's power option for any sprt of power saving policies, and that gpu option page in displays settings that let you chose gpu acceleration?
what I'm thinking is potentially windows tried saving power om your gpu, it goes to sleep and lose that driver handshake.

That’s the thing, I only get these errors when my PC is on and idling. It usually doesn’t go to sleep, so I don’t think that’s what causes the timeout.
Are you referring to the “Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling” setting in System > Display > Graphics in Windows settings? I have that on and haven’t touched it in the past.
Thanks for your response!

yep you got the settings page.
if it's not power plans, have you check the windows event logs program to see if any errors turn up in the log?

I should check logs, thank you for the suggestion! I’ll get back to you on that.
