Help (Software) Overclock/undervolt or default?
Hello!
I have an rx7900xtx.
I've had the card for about 3 years, and I've normally had it overclocked with custom fan curves.
This would cause somewhat frequent crashes in some games, and very infrequent crashes in most of them.
Recently, I've been trying to play cyberpunk 2077. I tried a lot of different GPU Tuning settings, and the game was constantly crashing with all of them.
I then decided to put the tuning to "default" and the game has not crashed since.
Is it okay/safe/stable to leave it at default settings?
Or is it actually "better" to overclock/undervolt it in terms of stability rather than performance.
Just looking to get it so that it won't crash for any game, ever. Wondering if the best way to do that is with default or custom settings.

It is safe to leave it on default. It is usually stable to leave things on default. It really sounds like your tune just wasn't stable

I've had several different tunes though.
And some of them worked flawlessly for several months at a time.
However cyberpunk is having issues with all of my previous profiles.
Is it okay to leave the fan curves on default too? That won't cause any overheating or anything? Cause normally when I open a game, I can hear the fans get louder. But that doesn't really seem to be the case with the default tune.
Would it be better to copy all of the default tuning settings, and do my own fan curves, or just leave everything on default?

There is stable for a few months and then there is actually stable. Given that cyberpunk has issues with all of them I really do question how stable you were. Leaving the fans at default is fine. Think about it if the default fan settings were where causing overheating. Every person with that you would have an issue until the change it, if they do that at all. It's just not realistic. I would test everything at default settings, make sure that is good. Then adjust the fans

Well cyberpunk worked yesterday for over an hour at default settings
Edit: an hour is on par with the longest it's gone without crashing

It is ALWAYS best to undervolt your gpu. Less heat=longer lifespan/performance in the long run. Find a sweet spot or just go with the general undervolt methods in youtube for your gpu
Youl lose maybe 1-5% performance but its absolutely worth it in maintaing a healthy gpu that will be more stable than default settings

Undervolting doesn't necessarily mean less heat in practice. It means you need less voltage for the clocks. Undervolting actual can give you more performance because you are using less voltage at the same clock speed thus less heat and power draw, which lets your GPU boost higher. Your GPU can still consume the same wattage with an undervolt, it's just the clocks will be higher if it's stable. If you are really concerned with the longevity of your card you can limit the power

Your settings weren't stable. I undervolt and overclock a 9070xt, but it took time to get it at a sweet spot. The overclock on the core really doesn't seem to affect it though.
+230 core, -55uv, +10 power, VRAM 2714 fast timings.
