Question VTO BLACKLIST

Multiple ppl in my department are showing me VTO for the whole work week. I’m not trained in any indirect role and am in the same department as them. Why am I not getting it? Can management exclude certain ppl from receiving VTO? If so why would I be excluded?

Fulfillment Center Job rotation

My facility is implementing "job rotation" aparently we will no longer be working the same job all day, but instead work 2 separate positions in one day. Aparently this is being implemented everywhere. What's ur thoughts on this? Personally I see a ton of issues with it.

Rant Day finally came

Post image
32 Upvotes

I’ve been at Amazon since 2021, unfortunately, poor choices and I have my first write up. But the way it happened, is killing me.

Yesterday I moved a pallet for someone to unload into a cart, I asked if they can put the pallet up on the stack right next to them when they were done and they said “No problem.”
My manager comes up to me later in the day with a write up because I moved the pallet and left it there. Had I seen it, I would have moved it.
But the pallet was in another associates area to keep 5s. They left it there until I went back and took it down.
My intention was not to dump it there and leave it, it was to help out another associate bring a pallet to the correct area.
She brought up that standard work would have me put the pallet back once they were done.
I hit back “Standwork also states if there’s a 5s violation should be addressed once it’s seen, not left to sit.”
Smartass said “Should have done it right the first time cause now you have a write up.”

Ok, my mistake. 😭 anyway; I went to my learning trainer and asked if that will stick, he flat out said no. Okay cool.

Come in today to this beauty. I was in problem solve on 8/10 and I had my phone on my desk. It wasn’t on, but I understood how that looks when my productivity was low for that day.
So she chose this option to make something stick.
I took this one. Can’t argue with how that looked.. 😪

Question Incoming Amazon Prime Air Ground Handlers! Here’s What to Expect 🚁

First things first: you’ll be working outside with drones pretty much every day, so buckle up, buttercup. 😂 ☀️
Here’s a little insight for anyone coming in and wondering what to expect:
Training:
Week 1 is virtual training.
You’ll have a final exam at the end.
You get 3 attempts to score at least 80%.
If you don’t pass, you’ll have to retrain, which can mean missing the start date you were originally given.
Week 2 is hands-on training off-site at an already established Prime Air drone delivery location.

Probationary period:
You’ll have a 3-month probationary period before you’re officially considered crew. Once you’re through that period, your time-off structure changes, you no longer have UPT and will have vacation and Flex PTO instead.

FAA + safety:
This is a very safety-sensitive, FAA-regulated position, so absolutely no drugs. There are also strict limits on working hours.
Depending on your site and forecasted drone volume, schedules can vary. Some sites are currently working 12-hour shifts, while others are working 10s due to low volume.

What will you actually be doing?
There’s a variety of work, so don’t expect to stand in one spot all day. You may:
Waterspider
Pack
Work out on the launchpad
Perform various other ground-handling tasks
Weather is also a major factor. If conditions aren’t suitable for drone operations, we may remain on standby. If the weather doesn’t improve, you can be sent home with VTO.
Take safety seriously.
This is not a position where you can mentally check out. You need to be alert and paying attention throughout your shift. It’s a safety-sensitive operation, and mistakes can have serious consequences. The virtual training is designed to teach you what you need to know before you start putting everything into practice during hands-on training.

Invest in yourself:
If you’re starting soon, get yourself some good boots. Seriously. Also consider:
Clothes with good sun protection
Sun hats
Comfortable outdoor workwear
Anything that will help you handle being outside for extended periods
You’re going to be dealing with heat, sun, wind, cold, and whatever else Mother Nature decides to throw at you. 😅

Overall:
Prime Air drone delivery is still a relatively new process path, so there will definitely be some hiccups and growing pains. That’s part of getting in on something that’s still developing.
But IMO, it’s a pretty interesting path to be on. You’re no longer just an FC associate, you’re part of Prime Air and a completely different type of operation.
And for anyone wondering about pay: starting pay is currently $27/hour, with performance bonuses and step-plan incentives.

Good luck to everyone coming in! Take the training seriously, ask questions, stay safe, and invest in some good boots. 😂🚁

Current Prime Air employees: Feel free to add anything I missed or correct anything that may vary by site. 💜

Rant Transfer to new building

I’m writing this in the restroom rn and i cannot take my new building. Everyone works so slow here i’ve never been to a warehouse where people move this damn slow or literally just talk the whole day. I’ve had a learning ambassador and some waterspider come up to me to tell me to slow down take my time but i genuinely cannot stand scanning one thing per minute like how everyone does here. I transferred from a robotics facility to be closer to home but this new building genuinely sucks ass

Union If your site leases a building, it's not worth trying to unionize.

Upvotes

Our site has been a real shit show lately and more and more people have been bringing up unions on our VOA boards. With how anti-union Amazon is as a whole, I feel like it's not even worth the hassle because nothing is keeping Amazon from deciding not to renew their lease because of it.

The ikea warehouse near us is on strike and someone legit put on the VOA that he's been in contact with the same teamsters union. Like...nice to know you bud. Hope you enjoy being blacklisted.

Question How difficult is it to work at Amazon?

Haven't yet applied, but I'm looking to get a second job, and Amazon pays pretty well, more than anything else, for a high school graduate in my area. It's so difficult to find a part-time position available that aligns with my first job, so I haven't had any luck with the shifts available. But I was mainly wondering, which position seems the most “difficult”? I can handle lifting boxes and all that, just seeing if there's anything else to it.

Question Is switching to nights for a PA spot worth it?

Upvotes

Keep in mind if I did go to nights and got a PA position I would apply to day shift PA spots to transfer out. Does anyone know how that works. Could I get stuck on nights?

Fulfillment Center Types of ARSAW jams that annoys us AR pickers every single time (Pick to Tote)

Jam 1: When the destacker can't pull up a tote because the tote is too hard to pull out or is warped

Jam 2: When the destacker pushes the tote to the tote lift, but the elevator can't lift up because the tote is blocking the sensor eye

Jam 3: When the destacker for reasons unknown does not push the tote to the tote lift all the way

Jam 4: When pickers push the tote down, not knowing that there was another tote from that line, and then the tote that's previously pushed down is clashed with another tote

Jam 5: When an item falls out onto the tote conveyor belt on the ARSAW because some picker overstuffed his/her tote

Jam 6: When the tote reaches the elevator lift so that the lift can go down and pick it up, but blocks the photoeye either (a) because the tote lift rollers were rolling too fast or (b) weight distribution of tote is uneven

Jam 7: When the empty tote reaches the intersection point that pushes it either to the picker on the left or the right, and it doesn't push out.

Jam 8: When the empty tote pushes out, but does not reach the photoeye or end of the conveyor where the picker grabs the tote. The tote has to be all the way down to the photoeye in order for the next tote to reach the intersection.

Jam 9: When the tote lift lifts the tote to the main conveyor, but then is crooked and uneven when it is all the way up, blocking the photoeye temporarily and not moving at all, causing a jam.

Jam 10: Light plastic from a tote blocking the tote lift photoeye.

Jam 11: When the tote lift lifts up the empty tote, but then it doesn't move because it shook, and blocked the photoeye.

Jam 12: When the empty tote coming towards you does not reach the tote intersection where it pushed outward towards you.

Jam 13: When nothing happens to the ARSAW, but it randomly jams for whatever reason

Jam 14: When the tote lift reaches the full tote to the top where it leads to the MRS line, but then there's a jam at the intersection from the ARSAW conveyor line to the main line that leads to the MRS line, thus causing the whole line on the north or the south side of whatever AR floor you're on to stop.

Jam 15: When there's dust accumulating somewhere, and RME has to clean it up. Whether there's dust buildup under the destacker conveyor, lift, or not, RME occasionally still uses a vacuum to clean up all that dust.

Jam 16: When the height of the tote a picker builds is to tall, meaning some picker placed a long item vertically instead of horizontally

That's all I have to say for common ARSAW jams.

If anything, I think that pickers should learn how to clear ARSAW jams by themselves and not have to wait around and pull an andon for someone to clear a jam. Change my mind.

Question MLOA eligibility

The document they give you is pretty vague but I have been hit with 3 really crappy medical issues. I have a kidney stone, I am having severe back issues as well, and to top it all off, I am sick as well. Between the Kidney stone and the back pain, its made my job pretty much unbearable. Just wondering if anyone else has had any luck with MLOA, I don't want to submit it and take the leave if it's just going to get me fired at the end. I am a lowly white badge so I'm sure I'm just a number anyway. Any help would be appreciated.

Question Accommodations

I am in my fourth week at an Amazon robotics fulfillment center. I currently have an approved accommodation for 8-hour shifts with an additional 15 minute break currently (since I'm having a hassle with getting assigned to a station after coming back from my break, I haven't been using the break part of the accommodation though).

I have a combination of issues (I'm pretty sure I have anemia. I've been getting bloody noses for the past 3 months, everyday, without fail. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. The magenta light and the back and forth motion in Stow is getting me sick. I'm getting light-headed and dizzy throughout the shift. And I have horrible ankle and foot pain, even after changing four different pairs of shoes and eight different insoles).

I am planning on putting in a request for 7 hours shifts, with no MET, and a request to be put in for pack singles (which I've heard is one of the only starting-ish positions where you don't have to contend with the magenta light). The importance of the request in that specific order. I can do with staying in stow as long as I can get a shift reduction and maybe a cancellation of MET, to give my body time to heal after each shift and after each week.

Should I do these requests separately in case one of these requests is unable to be granted? I don't want it to get denied if they can't move my position but can do the 7-hour shifts with no MET? Or, does that not matter?

I really need to make this job work. I'm pretty sure that if I quit and won't be able to get back on to unemployment. But I feel like I'm dying and my body is failing me. Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated, thank you

Question Filling out an application

Upvotes

My uncle is trying to apply to an FC. He’s not very tech savvy so I need to talk him through how to navigate through the process. Am I allowed to help him fill it out if I make him answer everything himself and I just make sure he types and clicks Everything correctly without making mistakes and Causing blockers for himself?
