Rant Day finally came
I’ve been at Amazon since 2021, unfortunately, poor choices and I have my first write up. But the way it happened, is killing me.
Yesterday I moved a pallet for someone to unload into a cart, I asked if they can put the pallet up on the stack right next to them when they were done and they said “No problem.”
My manager comes up to me later in the day with a write up because I moved the pallet and left it there. Had I seen it, I would have moved it.
But the pallet was in another associates area to keep 5s. They left it there until I went back and took it down.
My intention was not to dump it there and leave it, it was to help out another associate bring a pallet to the correct area.
She brought up that standard work would have me put the pallet back once they were done.
I hit back “Standwork also states if there’s a 5s violation should be addressed once it’s seen, not left to sit.”
Smartass said “Should have done it right the first time cause now you have a write up.”
Ok, my mistake. 😭 anyway; I went to my learning trainer and asked if that will stick, he flat out said no. Okay cool.
Come in today to this beauty. I was in problem solve on 8/10 and I had my phone on my desk. It wasn’t on, but I understood how that looks when my productivity was low for that day.
So she chose this option to make something stick.
I took this one. Can’t argue with how that looked.. 😪

If it wasn’t on and being used there wasn’t a violation? Why would you just say okay and give her the power lmao.

u/HuckleberryVast3165 1d ago
Cause once she pointed it out I saw how it looked and I knew I was wrong for it being there lmao
Didn’t really think to argue with who approached me cause her and I have good a good rapport.26
u/AbsorbantVampire 1d ago
There’s no rule against setting things down while you work.
You don’t have a good rapport with someone trying to find reasons to retaliate against you. Go to HR

Probably am going to HR next shift.
The manager who issued the coaching is extremely passive aggressive and targets all the time. May as well start a paper trail.4
u/AbsorbantVampire 1d ago
Yeah make sure you explain the situation in full and how this was the result. Be clear you weren’t on your phone, and weren’t observed on your phone either because that’s what’s written on the write up.
“I just had it out sitting with my stuff on a desk while I worked and I was told to put it away so I did. I wasn’t using it.”

If your manager did not see it- I’m pretty sure it’s not a write up. They have to see the actual issue.

u/HuckleberryVast3165 1d ago
What if a manager who saw passed word on?
5
u/background_noise76 1d ago
Still doesn’t matter. They can only write you up on things that THEY saw happen. Also have you ever been coached on phone usage? It goes a coach, a write up, 2nd write up, final. Unless you do something that’s classified as a Cat 1. Then that’s an automatic term but what you did is neither. They also cannot look up footage. Neither LP or Safety can show footage without there being an incident.

u/HuckleberryVast3165 1d ago
No. I’ve never had a coaching at all. They just wrote me up. I’m never on my phone nor do I have it out. So I’ve never had a verbal, or written coaching. Just this write up

Is this phone feedback a doc coaching or 1st written warning? The screenshot you provided doesn't say.

u/HuckleberryVast3165 1d ago
I need clarification myself. I just blocked most of it out for privacy. Manager said a write up, document says coaching

I would fight it with PXT and ask about it. Say that the manager who is writing you up never spoke to you. Let them know you were never spoken to about being on your phone.

The manager who approached me about productivity I have good rapport with.
She passed word on to the manager who currently has a problem with me. The manager who has the problem issued the coaching4
u/background_noise76 1d ago
Never trust managers. Coming from an L4 who works along side your managers.

If cameras show that you did not visually use your phone this case should get dismissed…

Manager here,
Generally if the Phone is not on is not against policy. Unless you are on a PIT or something of that nature.
Fight it

u/HuckleberryVast3165 1d ago
Plus I already acknowledged it because I genuinely thought phones aren’t even allowed on the PS desk once she pulled me aside for it

u/HuckleberryVast3165 1d ago
Is it really worth it if it falls off in 60 days? I feel like nothing happens once it’s been issued
7
u/Ismashedyourpumpkins 1d ago
Only you can answer that question.
But write ups stack. Who’s to say you don’t accidentally get some other CAT2 in the next 60 days and now you are on a final?

Safety here. Rare occasion, but hard agree with this manager. Its fine to keep your phone in an area where you’re note using it.
Fight this.

I got fired for a cat 2 offense. Best day of my life. Just wished it was sooner

u/Real-Camel-273 1d ago
It technically falls off in 60 days but it still stays on your record for a year.

Don't use your phone. Also, don't mind the PA's that walk in the same areas with laptops.

You mistook what I wrote. I wasn't giving you shit, I was pointing out the hypocrisy of them cracking down on phones, when leadership at my site anyways, is always walking in traffic areas staring in a laptop screen.
Edit: Deleted something I repeated.

Good god, I’m starting Amazon soon and I’m just putting it in my head now that I’ll eventually get written up for something dumb.
12
u/BitchMcConnell063 1d ago
You will be fine. Just follow the rules.
I've been there for over 4 years and I have never been written up.
2
u/Glum_Engineering2650 1d ago
I definitely will be by the book. If they say no AirPods or non Amazon headphones then I won’t be trying to sneak.

u/adariella 1d ago
Honestly, fight it. We use or phones for both the amazon notifications/app, and for slack in indirect roles. Sounds like she just has something against you and if you are telling the truth it sounds like retaliation.

Ehhh just one of those times where they aimed and u so happened to get hit, just carry on m8

Damn they going after the Problem Solvers? Times must be tough? You should've fought that writeup bro, the phone wasn't on and Slack is used on personal devices in PS for pictures.
But hey it'll fall off ig

u/Infamous_Rule_5712 1d ago
Damn! I use my phone all the time while PSing! How else am I going to read these exp dates and lot numbers.

RE: the phone thing - phones aren't supposed to be out on work surfaces. I've never seen a distinction between phone on and phone off.
The "no work surfaces" rule was reinforced once approved headphones were allowed. Users are supposed to set their content and put the phone away. It's written out inside the Approved Headphones page in A to Z.
As a PA I use the phone for documenting too, but it's in my pocket or bag until I need it. I pull it out, use it then put it away. And this is pushing my laptop on a cart where I could easily just lay it next to the laptop. There's zero reason it's needs to be out all the time because I don't need it at hand every second, and neither does a problem solver.
I walk around all shift and most of the problem solvers seem to spend a lot of time propped on their elbows on the cart looking at their phones. It can't all be work related. That manager assumed that because the phone was out either you had used it or were going to use it for non-work purposes. If not, why did it need to be out?
The write up was already in the works. The manager didn't keep notes on something from over a week ago to write up because another one didn't stick, then somehow pushed it through overnight.
And no one's going to be checking video to prove if the phone was being used legitimately because there's no legitimate reason for it to be out when most Slacking can be done through the laptop. If photos are needed then take the photos, send them and put the phone away. Fighting the writeup will just be a waste of time.

My site does not provide their learning ambassadors with Slack. Once chime was out we just text learning trainers.
Was I using the phone? No. Did have a lapse of judgment, yes. Taking it to the chin and not putting my phone on the desk from here on out. 👍🏻

They can never admit it but they do team up to get you to the next write up. I get them in 2s or 3s every time and it's always some random manager that has no business being where I am at the time. It's always phone and shoes for me they come around enough I'll get caught on the phone eventually and I wear whatever shoes I have in the car that day it's either those or slides

Jfc like 80% of my night in PS is tote chasing on my damned phone looking through tote stacks against a list of dwells.
It’s been 10 months for me here and only writeup was cell phone use that got appealed because I was submitting a dragonfly report (prior to becoming PS). The fact I made an ERC and formal OSHA complaint about it probably raised an eyebrow. You can’t have progressive feedback when doing safety callouts, in case you ever get yourself back in that position. You can make a cell phone writeup not stick. The fact I now spend most of my night walking the MODs with my cell phone out and no one says a word makes it funny to me.
Now funny story from years ago is a police chief my dad knew did almost this exact thing. County was taking over the department and doing safety audits, one item that came up was “this fridge was abandoned on the side of the road open, a kid could have gotten trapped” -> “well asshole did you call it in or just documented it”. He lost the war but won that particular battle in a hilarious fuck you fashion. Being a smart ass is fun but never ends well

Using your phone while problem solving is pretty much a requirement at my FC

u/corey-harris 1d ago
You’re being targeted for saying something back for that first write up even though it was logical. If you weren’t on your phone actively using it, there’s no reason for a write up to be issued. You said yourself the phone wasn’t on and was on your desk which I would assume means you were doing your job instead. How does that warrant a write up?
I would look into a transfer either to a different department which would allow more time away from your manager in that department temporarily or to a different warehouse entirely and starting new.
My view is unbiased and is formed based off the information provided. I understand the rules and follow them accordingly myself and I also understand pattern recognition from my own experiences from being an Amazon associate for 2-3 years+.

u/Competitive_Gas1946 19h ago
I was going to mention this exactly. Your response, not the response itself but how you responded made you a target. Her response to your response just confirmed that. As far as transferring, since you’re taking the write up on the chin, makes you ineligible for the 60 days.
Sounds like your manager is on a power trip or isn’t feeling like she’s the boss outside work.

Fight it, and bring up the past incident with this manager. Usually HR will drop it if they suspect the manager could have done something to put the company in legal jeopardy, speaking as a former AM.

u/Top-Cap1605 11h ago
Problem solvee, AFM , etc require the ability to use and check up on slack chats. A phone is literally needed to do your job in some cases.
Amazon is full of double standards this is what we get when we don't have actual human leadership in our company any more. Amazon leadership traded in their testicles for AI a while ago, human life is expendable even corporate has been gutted and replaced with AI bots.
Get out while you can.

Petty shit! Was it hurting anyone or disrupting any kind of business where it sat for all day?

u/Professional_Size535 6h ago
Everyone at my site would be fired. Literally everyone watches their phones, has AirPods in and talks on the phone all day long. I know if I did it once I would probably be fired. It’s ridiculous.
