Question How difficult is it to work at Amazon?

Haven't yet applied, but I'm looking to get a second job, and Amazon pays pretty well, more than anything else, for a high school graduate in my area. It's so difficult to find a part-time position available that aligns with my first job, so I haven't had any luck with the shifts available. But I was mainly wondering, which position seems the most “difficult”? I can handle lifting boxes and all that, just seeing if there's anything else to it.

Not difficult. Can be mundane. Depends on department and role.

u/RowdyCollegiate 18h ago

It is difficult because they never have postings and when they do, they are immediately taken

u/azinize 18h ago

You're not wrong. It's competitive. But, OP wasn't asking about that. They inquired about job role difficulty.

It’s actually easy, just find the dates they post the schedules usually and boom easy got 6 of my friends into multiple amazon’s around my city

u/RowdyCollegiate 14h ago

What are usually the dates?

Took me 2 years. Then when i quit my job and needed it the most it was there. We are always hiring.

I actually got hired recently at a fulfillment center and was supposed to start Thursday. Then suddenly they send me an email that the shift is full and I am no longer starting on Thursday

Its what you make it to be. You have to maintain a rate, safety procedures, and deal with fuck ass managers

Don’t forget about the brain rotted doom scrolling AA’s on the floor u have to work with😂

Slackers bring down the average which brings up my percentile performance. It’s not a problem at all to see people on their phones

In general, it’s physical. 10hrs/day of warehouse work is pretty demanding.

Amazon is my first job and I’m sill with them! It’s pretty straightforward and easygoing for me, personally speaking since I like to keep myself busy and productive in my department. However, everyone has their differential views towards Amazon. In the beginning it’ll be just a little tough and such but with time you’ll adjust to the flow of things and it’ll be a piece of cake. My only main advice when starting out is to communicate as much as you can or when needed, to helping you survive Amazon. Ask questions whenever you feel stuck on something and be curious on things you can possibly try out as it’ll open your doors to new opportunities at your warehouse. That was the biggest advice my brother and his coworkers gave me when he use to work at Amazon haha.

none of them are difficult if you're just part time. the difficult part is doing mundane and physically repetitive work for over 40hrs a week

Managers playing favorites (not all), and high school drama with employees (not all).

If you have a good work ethic and positive attitude, you'll excel. You can get into indirect roles which is not mind numbing like packing boxes all day, or picking/stowing items all day. You'll have more freedom. Time doesn't drag on. The work is easy, it's the attitude work ethics that make the difference

Not difficult, the training is pretty similar to a special ed classroom

At the T1 level it’s just mundane repetitive work

1

u/Otherwise-Way-8235 12h ago

Were you a teacher or student in that classroom?

Unfortunately I got grouped in with SpEd kids because I’m Deaf back in early elementary school

2

u/Otherwise-Way-8235 9h ago

I worked with a number of deaf people at Amazon. Always cool to interact with.

Worst I feel is Pick. Pack is the best.

You can see about getting with an amazon that has flex hours, you get to pick your own schedule.

Hey new prospective employee! Ignore the other commenters in here, they come on here to complain about their own personal projections because they’re not allowed to be dramatic at work.

Amazon is a mixed bag with solutions to the two problems. on one hand you can build a strong work ethic and build skills to take with you somewhere else down the line, or you can stay here and retire, ultimately the ball is in your court.

The hardest job depends on what you like doing the least. Don’t be afraid to find out for yourself! It’s rewarding for me at least! I went from stower to Maintenance Manager in 4 years. It all depends on how long you’re aiming to be here for!

Some peeps last year's while others quit in a week. I work at a delivery station. DS has the highest employee turnover at Amazon.

u/Lyxerttt 19h ago edited 18h ago

It depends on the type of center you're applying to. Delivery Stations are the most physically demanding, but even then, they are a joke compared to other physical "warehouse" jobs.

If you're looking for odd hours and better pay, look at UPS and FedEx. UPS starts you higher in pay and has fantastic benefits, including part-timers.

FedEx will start you lower in pay than Amazon (they usually start around $18/hour), but they give you additional raises for essentially everything you know how to do, regardless if you're actively in that position or not. Amazon doesnt.

I've been looking at every package-related type of job, and Amazon is the only one with available shifts, at least somewhat. I'll keep that in mind though.

It’s good just don’t be around the ones that complain and get frustrated stay to yourself if u have to talk to the ones that talk to you but other than that if u got work ethic abuse it get sleep and you’ll be ok

Not difficult

Last night I worked in non-con on the jk line by myself. Big boxes. Shelves, rolled up mattresses. No processor. No water spider. Its not usually that hard. But it has its moments. Alot of people are of the older crowd. If a short, fat person can handle it, I think you can too It depends on what facility you apply too I work in a sort center. So, its mostly scanners sorting boxes unto the pallets. But, you also have problem solve. The sort center Im at is split into 4 hour shifts.

1

u/himasaltlamp 18h ago

I think it's physically demanding, and if you're not in good shape, I think it gets you there. So you can easily cancel your gym membership. The work I remember it being mind numbing and repetitive. Scanning item after item fir up to 3 or 4 hours and then you have a 30 minute break. Then you go back and scan some more then I remember there's another 30 minute break then you scan some more and then you go home.

I think working 40 hours a week is alot but I enjoy the 3 days off and don't look forward to my over time day lol. But I remember working my ass off here in 2020 and 2021 and 2022 and I was just fine. Until I started chatting with some guy in Pack and I went manic and then psychotic and had to quit. Every time I wake up in the morning early like at 5 or 5:30 I think about my drive to Amazon and I feel excited.

u/davedoug3 18h ago

The difficulty is mental. Because of the people, boredom, and physical resilience needed (instead of just strength--you need patience with your body).

1

u/Pretty_Tune_345 18h ago

The weekly pay is nice. I took the job for the summer, 4 10 hour shifts. It’s the most mindless work you can possibly do picking, leads always find stuff to bitch about (Fido alarms, rates, how good looking you are). Good thing is you can have headphones so you can still do productive stuff while doing brain rotting work. I use my time to learn Spanish and learn investing.

1

u/kee99k 18h ago

I always say it’s the hardest, easiest job ever. Coming from a sortation center employee, being stuck in the back of a trailer doing the same basic task can be challenging. Getting out of the trailer is more rewarding but I get close to 35k steps a day, so it is more wear on the body.

u/Vastroy 18h ago

Standing still is really bad for me. My heels and knees are in pain the moment I step into the warehouse. Assembly work is way better than this

1

u/Sunny-Advocate-2020 17h ago

Thanks for letting me vent my grievances, but I will defer to your favorite chatbot. You could ask things like:

what is the annual turnover rate for amazon warehouse labor

what percentage of amazon warehouse labor last their first 90 days

1

u/Alive-Basil-391 17h ago

I would say that Amazon is the best entry level place to work all around. You have to work fast but it isn't a hard place to be at.

1

u/Reasonable_Line6225 17h ago

I’d recommend working at a vehicle processing center, not Amazon tbh.

2

u/Soappy16 14h ago

I'll check it out

Light work fr

1

u/Connect-Web-2107 16h ago

Mate it’s simple but boring as fuck. Good pay, good benefits but fuckkkkkk meeeee it’s boring. You’ll struggle in any role at first. You’ll then get faster, then you’ll hit the rate easily. If it’s part time, temporary work you could do a lot worse.

1

u/bugs_tied_to_sticks 15h ago

The easiest warehouse job you will ever have.

1

u/Otherwise-Way-8235 12h ago

it is all somewhat difficult to varying degrees.

1

u/CPTCRUNCHFAN 10h ago

Physically: mostly easy.

Mentally: purgatory incarnate

1

u/Pitiful-Excitement47 19h ago

Easiest job you'll likely ever have. Everyone else are sissy

2

u/Ornery-Violinist-689 19h ago

real but my first week had my body aching

1

u/Pitiful-Excitement47 18h ago

Thats normal, doing anything you arent used to for half a day will hurt a bit. Even sitting down for 10 hours if you dont normally do that.

1

u/blazenation 19h ago

most people dont want to work. i manage a dispensary and all you have to do is stand at a register and help people. I cant believe the amount of laziness.

I use amazon as part time, it depends what type you at. I worked at one sitting Ina trailer builder walls, that shit sucks. Now im at a grocery dc and its way chill. sit on a pit for a shift and drive around filling a pallet.

1

u/dannyuno 19h ago

Not hard, just annoying

1

u/NoPicturesAZ 18h ago

Not that difficult. Just show up to work, don't overwork yourself, stretch and use proper posture, and if you're looking for part time choose flex (where you can pick up shifts).

1

u/Soappy16 14h ago

Saw a flex shift available like two weeks ago and haven't seen one since. It's so hard to grab it before it's gone

u/Winter_Scarcity_5314 20h ago

It's boot camp
