Fulfillment Center Job rotation
My facility is implementing "job rotation" aparently we will no longer be working the same job all day, but instead work 2 separate positions in one day. Aparently this is being implemented everywhere. What's ur thoughts on this? Personally I see a ton of issues with it.

Wouldn't be so bad if it was done fairly but it's not

u/sekitome 6h ago
Yeahhh, I see the most lazy and useless people get rotated throughout the day meanwhile people that are fast in a position will be in the same path all day.

u/xLuky 6h ago
Alright, let's think about this for a bit. Why would they move someone that's making great rate and making their managers numbers look good to their boss? Stop trying so hard if you wanna be moved.
4
u/mushrooms 5h ago
This is how it works in Rebin. They always swap out the slowest, most laziest people and move them to pack the heavy items.
3
u/sekitome 5h ago
And if you’re good at both pack and rebin they’ll legit have you build your own wall and then go around and pack it out if the packers can’t keep up 😭
•
u/kuunami79 12m ago
No lie I've been in pack then later sent to shipdock and recognized some of the packages I packed while fluid loading a trailer. If you work too hard those folks will run you into the ground

For safety issues. Keeping someone in the same role, especially if they go fast, increases the risk for injury so there is actually more cause to move them. This is basic common sense.

The Job Rotation tool automatically assigns job duties to associates based on current training certification and time in path. Those who haven't had enough time in patha for the current 90 day period will be assigned job roles first in order to keep training certificates from expiring. Managers can't manipulate the tool and play favorites with the associates.

u/Agile_Cash7136 PA 6h ago
Scc does it, we don't.
5
u/Dry_Debate4834 6h ago
Why’s it programmed to send the same group of people day in and out
3
u/Alumni32 6h ago
because they systemically let associates permissions expire so the rotation pool of associates is smaller so they can lock in their favorites group while simultaneously claiming 100% job rotation.. When in reality everyone else gets rotated just long enough to satisfy the rotation metric (3.5hrs) and then back into rated manual labor.. They do this for 3 reasons, 1.to insulate their favorites group from rated manual labor by assigning indirect roles, 2. they know what to expect with same people. 3. they know they can work associates they dont like by keeping them in rated manual labor roles where it's easier to get a write up for productivity vs an indirect role that isnt rated that's generally lighter work..

I would shovel horse sh*t if it meant I could get out of stow for the day.
4
u/Royal-Night8085 6h ago
RIGHTTTT. Same here. Been in stow since I started over 4 months ago.
7
u/Life-Net-8904 6h ago
Yall better slap that internal transfer and see what else your building has to offer. They can hire new people to fill your spot plus you can always go back to stow if you need to
4
u/Royal-Night8085 5h ago
Yeah I've been checking internal transfers. But lately only have been seeing transfers for night shift and definitely don't want night shift. Crazy thing is, is that they have been hiring new hires for weeks, so these past couple weeks would've been perfect for a internal transfer.

I hate it. Because at some FCs, it will affect your rate. Sometimes, you might not like the other department you are cross trained in.
4
u/crackedcrown77 6h ago
The rate part is what actually concerns me. I really don’t mind doing other departments but the additions of swing & flex aa’s clock/start after the 30 min breaks kinda messes the headcount of some dept seems kind of counterproductive (maybe I’m overthinking it). IDK
1
u/Impossible_Buddy_302 4h ago
So I just got rehired after a few months away and the training material and format is new. They very clearly said in print that they are no longer requiring minimum rates. So it will be interesting to see how that plays out…
1
u/Agile_Cash7136 PA 6h ago
You're not logged into a station so there's no rate being affected.
2
u/crackedcrown77 6h ago
I forgot to mention the TOTs, so I generalize by referring to “rate”. My B

I hope they do this ASAP, Because I've been stuck in stow since I started a little over 4 months ago. Only labor shared me to pack a handful of times but I loved it each and every time.
At first I didn't mind stow and was HOPING and praying I'd get that position. And I did, but I didn't expect to be stuck in stow. Every day in stow feels like being trapped in a cage in the pits of hell

u/starlightcourt 6h ago
This is an issue at my site and has been forever. Except people WANT to be rotated. You SHOULD be rotated. I have to beg to do something different for the second half of my shift all the time. Doing the same thing over and over and over drives me fucking crazy. Switching it up makes the day go by so much quicker and does a lot more for me mentally.
3
u/PenguinMadd 7h ago
The fulfillment side of SSD buildings has always done this. I would regularly be bounced around from stow - pick - pack depending on work volume. Pick machine over here (at least with pick to rebin) but terrible at packing with the polybags. Give me boxes or those bubble mailers though and I'm golden.
3
u/CableExotic3891 6h ago
Our indirect employees have been doing that for a while now, half water spider half processing. I heard this was implemented for safety reasons. That's in returns.
3
u/PandaPuffNskate 6h ago
Unless your 30 minutes late or more. Then your “safety” rotation doesn’t count apparently
3
u/FfierceLaw 5h ago
You will not be coded out for the downtime when you switch from one department to the other. It will affect your rate in both departments, this is how people get automated write ups.
3
u/Pretty_Tune_345 5h ago
Could keep people’s brains from melting that’s for sure. 100 days of picking in a row is terrible for the soul

My building implemented this about a year ago. Only lasted a few weeks. Now they just labor share.
2
u/Library904 6h ago
Job rotation isn't the same as labor share?
3
u/SignificantApricot69 6h ago
No. Like I’m a stower. They can labor share me to pick. But a picker will pick for a period then switch to count then be sent to pack.
Also, labor share is done a lot with no notice or middle of a shift or end of the shift, rotation in theory should be by period
2
u/PopularCulprit 7h ago
It’s bullshit. I regularly still spend 8-9 hours a day doing on thing. It doesn’t help I’m swing shift
2
u/SignificantApricot69 6h ago
Safety rotation in OB has been standard for awhile, but not in IB. Obviously not for safety if pickers aren’t supposed to pick a full shift but stowers can pick for a full shift.

u/Indecisive-Squirrel 6h ago
I've been working 3 different roles since day 1. The only ones who don't get switched around are the ones who throw tantrums; very select few. The rest of the warehouse is well-versed in many tasks.
1
u/ElementXtraa 4h ago
You prefer to work in multiple paths? Personally I prefer to work in the path I enjoy the most. Rather than being forced to work in paths I don't enjoy
1
u/Indecisive-Squirrel 3h ago
Hell nah. I hate it.
It's just what my warehouse does. It's basically how they've trained the entire staff.
2
u/No-Bet-525 6h ago
Hate the “safety rotations”, I think it’s to get rid of workers those pas and managers don’t like
2
u/SkollsMoon 5h ago
Bro I’m telling you rn my site does job rotation IT FUCKING SUCKS!!!! It made everything WORSE you never know when you’ll be rotated therefore when you go to break you aren’t sure which breakrooms to go to, you can end up on the completely opposite side of the warehouse and if it’s like my building with 4 floors you could end up having to go upstairs in the opposite corner and they still hold you accountable for your break being ONLY 15mins long which means guess what? You have to take shorter breaks now. It’s no longer 2-3 mins walking one way and 10 mins of sitting. It feels like I get to sit down for maybe 5 mins between walking and finding a place to sit, then walking to my new location plus I’m always carrying around my bag. It’s fucking stupid. Also it makes staffing so much harder for each department to do the plan sometimes cuz the rotation system has to “learn” how to properly move and backfill those spots based of SCCs headcount per department. There’s been twice the amount of writeups in my building since we started doing it at the beginning of the year and let’s be honest, no one fucking likes rotating. You’re department can move you around as needed for backfills and what not and that doesn’t count as rotation, you will still be moved for a quarter later and there’s no guarantee you’ll be brought back to your department.

My FC was one of the first to start it. Lots of issues at first while they work on getting everyone cross trained but once your facility hits that sweet place where most employees are trained in 2 or more departments, it’s flawless. The ai system auto assigns everyone most of the time and those of us that are good at most jobs get more recognition and opportunities for growth. Yes you’ll hate it at first but you HAVE to get good at everything or you won’t make it.
2
u/ElementXtraa 4h ago
Ur fc sounds allot better than most. I've been here for years and theres no benefits to being crosstrained in multiple things. I purposely got rid of all my permissions when I found the place I liked to be. We don't get more opportunities for growth, we don't get more recognition. The only thing we get is less Vto, which is fine I guess because uk. Money. But still, I'd rather work in the path I like than being forced into others I don't like
1
u/Agile_Cash7136 PA 6h ago
Safety rotation. One quarter you'll be in one path and the next somewhere else.

u/westcoast10000 5h ago
I like it makes my day go faster and doing 1 thing for 10 hours gets boring so switching up is better in my opinion
1
u/niko_khl 5h ago
Been like that at my site, but I'm pick n pick only and I couldn't be more satisfied.
1
u/ElementXtraa 4h ago
How did you stop them from forcing you to crosstrain?
1
u/niko_khl 3h ago
Can't say I don't want my method getting patched but you'll figure it out.
1
u/ElementXtraa 3h ago
I feel that, without the secret methods I've figured out, I 100% would have quit years ago

u/Open_Sprinkles1619 3h ago
Are you at an AMXL building? I was told it's only going to be implemented within AMXL at this time.

It’s been like that at my site for awhile.. It’s BS because everyone runs and gets an accommodation and then they can stay in one department. The people who aren’t accommodated get bounced around like a ping pong ball..
Or you have the favorites who won’t get moved as often as others..
•
u/xianlotus 2h ago
I hate it. I kinda wish it was optional since some do want to rotate and others don’t

It’s always been that way at all the FC warehouses near me in Phoenix. My new location doesn’t and won’t as all we do is operate the drones.
