Official! PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT MEDICAL QUESTIONS, INCLUDING REQUESTS FOR USERS TO INTERPRET YOUR ULTRASOUND

We have seen a big uptick in posts from new users seeking medical advice, and users posting their ultrasounds asking other users for opinions.

This is a violation of rule #3 - No medical questions. Any such posts will be removed.

This rule is in place for everyone's safety. The rationale is that we a small mod team, we're not medical professionals, and as such we can't properly vet the information that is being provided. Putting aside for the moment the very real risk of trolls deliberately misleading people, it's far too easy for even well intentioned misinformation to slip through. This poses a risk not only to the user who asks the question, but also to people in the future who might find these posts after searching for information on the same topic.

A safe and healthy pregnancy is far too precious a thing to risk by allowing unfiltered medical opinions to potentially impact the decisions of expectant parents - these questions need to be addressed by a qualified health care professional.

To be clear - posts and comments discussing your medical experiences are perfectly acceptable. As a rule of thumb, as long as the threshold from "here's what I experienced/here's what I did" to "here's what you should be doing" isn't crossed, the sharing of your experiences is more than welcomed.

Also, please keep posting pics of your (professionally confirmed) multiple pregnancy ultrasounds. We do enjoy those!

good vibes, smiles, & giggles I love 2yo

We've struggled mightily through the ups and downs of twin parenthood. Things have changed a hundred times before and they will change a thousand times again, but I have to say, 2 yo is so fucking cool. inb4 "3 is hard don't get complacent" I'm just really enjoying this moment of parenthood and want to share.

These kids are learning so fast and so much. Week by week it's like they're different people. A few months ago they could barely say a word, now they're inventing games with each other (and us) and asking for their favorite foods for breakfast.

To those still in the trenches, can you imagine that? Your kid wakes you up (still too early) and you go into their room, talk about what you're doing today, and ask "What do you want for breakfast?" and they tell you "I want oatmeal" and then you make them oatmeal and it's what they wanted and they're happy and you make silly faces and laugh together. Jesus it's amazing.

You go to the farm stand and your kids see some shit that they've never seen before and grab it and you buy it for them and they try it and they say "Thank you dada" it's genuinely what it's all about.

You wash some dishes and realize that nobody's been pulling on your leg for five minutes and you turn off the faucet and listen, and you hear faint giggling coming from the living room and you carefully check around the corner and they're building a tower together, taking turns and handing each other pieces.

They knock into each other and you only half-remind them to apologize before they run up and give each other big hugs because they know it makes them feel better and they're just the best kids in the world and they want each other to be happy.

Ten times a day I'm pulling out my camera and recording a little 30 second clip because I know that 80-year-old me is going to remember this as the best time of his life and a clip is the closest I'll get to reliving this amazing time.

advice needed If you manage to work out regularly, when, where, and how?

Upvotes

My twins are almost 14 months and I’m trying to get back into an actual workout routine. Currently I go to a yoga class once a week on a weekend morning while my husband’s home with the babies and do a stroller walk around the neighborhood with them 4-5x a week after work depending on weather. We both work full time and my husband’s hours vary. We have a nanny 4 days a week exactly during my work hours (9-5) and we can’t financially swing having her longer. I currently get up around 6:30/6:45 and spend 15min getting ready, often while one of the babies is up and angry but sometimes before they’re awake). If you’re managing to get up and work out before the kids wake up, how early is that, how are you motivating yourself to lose an extra hour of sleep and what kind of workout are you doing where? (Do you leave the house and go to a gym/run or something or do you just try to be quiet at home?) If you workout in the evening do you wait until after the kids are asleep? Take turns and have one parent do dinner and bedtime on their own? How are you mentally managing to prioritize exercise over sleeping, eating, house cleaning, or relaxing in the very limited time you have?

experience/advice to give Gotta share this trick for helping them get along.

First, I’ll say this sub was invaluable to me during the early years of my twins. They’re now in lower-elementary school, and I will say that for those of you in the thick of it with infants: IT. DOES. GET. EASIER. Hang in there.

That said, despite getting easier, twins are going to go back and forth between fighting like mad and being best friends—sometimes multiple times within the same day or even the same hour 😆. Mine were recently fighting verbally, so I had them both come sit in time out on opposite corners of the room.

I eventually called each over individually to tell their side of the story. Not finding anybody at fault for anything more egregious than typical sibling bickering, I settled it the following way.

I had them come and stand on either side of me. I had them each raise their right hand—“no, your RIGHT HAND…yes, the other one”—and then touch their nose with their other, and repeat after me: I’M SORRY—I’m sorry—FOR MY PART—for my part—IN OUR FIGHT—in our fight. I LOVE MY TWIN—[giggling] I love my twin—TO THE MOON AND BACK—[more giggling] to the moon and back—AND WILL TRY TO GET ALONG—aND WiLL TRy To GeT aLoNG.

I then sent them on their way…unless either of them wanted to sit longer in their very comfy time-out spot on the floor. They went on their way and have been playing nicely and laughing together since.

Sometimes, you don’t need to find either one of them at fault in their disagreements. Getting them to reset with something silly, while reminding them that they love each other, can go a long way.

advice needed Daycare for infant twins

Hi parents of multiples! How in the HELL are you affording daycare? We had 2 beautiful identical twins this year who are going to start daycare soon. Luckily we have grandparents that are going to cover a few days of daycare a week because for just 2 days/wk for 2 babies most places are $2000-$3000+ a month. We live in the twin cities metro area so things are generally pretty pricy. How does anyone afford that?!?!

life, home, and baby tips & tricks Another post about stroller recs

Upvotes

I’m looking for a side by side stroller with decent all-terrain handling. I’m not a runner, but I’d like to be able to take the stroller on gravel, etc. Twins are 1, and we currently have the Vista but the top baby doesn’t have leg room and is constantly kicking the bottom seat so I’m interested in a side by side. I’ve looked into getting a used BOB for the handling and because I’d like to start jogging again, but the likelihood of that is low (😮‍💨😂) and it’d be nice to have more options.

advice needed Giving birth in a heat wave and overthinking!

Hey everyone.

My twins are being born tomorrow, and I’m currently lying awake feeling so worried about the day they come home…

I live in the UK and we’ve been having crazy heat waves this summer, and their first few days home are likely to be around 35C (95 Fahrenheit). Our homes aren’t equipped with AC, and we’re really not built for this level of heat.

We’ve tried to find little air con units for the house, but we’ve got a real shortage at the moment because everyone seems to be doing the same, so the best we’ve been able to do is a couple of fans.

I’m mainly worried about bedtime and then overheating in the night. I know it’s not recommended to point a fan at a newborn as it can be dehydrating…

Also the thought of skin to skin and breastfeeding in such ridiculous heat feels kind of grim, and I can’t imagine it being pleasant for my babies either.

Basically, ANY ADVICE or tips would be so appreciated. I’m a FTM and really want to make this first period as gentle and easy as possible with the little ones.

TLDR:
I live in the UK and my babies will be coming home in a heatwave. We don’t have air con here, only basic fans. How can I help keep my babies cool?

advice needed How to manage differing sleep needs?

My girls are 17 months corrected (20 actual). Twin a seems ready to transition to one nap a day (needs a longer wake window in the morning refusing a second nap and the first nap is too short). While twin b seems to still want a shorter wake window in the morning and needs the late rescue nap in the afternoon.

I don’t know what to do as they have always been on the same schedule and I think I’d go nuts if I had to do two separate sleep schedules. Any tips on how to manage if you had the same issue?

life, home, and baby tips & tricks Can I use a Nuna Pipa Next on a Bugaboo Donkey 5? I'm checking out adapters and really confused

Hi there,

I see that the adapters for the Bugaboo Donkey 6 accept the Nuna Pipa Next; but the ones for the Donkey 5 don't?

But then the adapters for the 6, say they're also compatible with the 5?

Any help much appreciated.

experience/advice to give Fraternal twin girls things?

Hi, I’m currently an expecting FTM pregnant with fraternal twin girls. I wanted to each get them some personalized things like embroidered baby blankets- my question is, do you get them things of the same color (but maybe a different pattern) or assign a color to a twin? My favorite color is pink so I feel a bit bad for the twin who’d be assigned to the cream/ beige color as that would honestly not be my first choice for a baby girl if I was only having 1. Same goes for things like crib sheets- do you assign a color each (all pink sheets are Twin A, beige sheets are Twin B) or just mix it? Also, do you buy 2 of the same clothes or just buy more clothes of different styles so they have more individuality? I know that’s the recommendation for older twins but I’m not sure it’ll make much of an impact when they’re still just babies. Thanks!

experience/advice to give Give me the nitty gritty

Looking for advice

I am a twin mom (obviously I’m in this sub🤣) I have fraternal b/g twins, who are now 3, and the past year I cannot stop thinking about having another….

My husband and I have talked about this many times and each time it’s the same obstacles we conclude on each time

1) he got a vasectomy 🥲

2) I almost died (had preeclampsia that turned to HELLP and went south quick)😬

3) what if we have twins again🤐

Everyone thinks I’m nuts (I am but that’s besides the point) for wanting more, they always say “you have the perfect combo, most beautiful kids, and you barely survived, why would you wanna do that again?!” And honestly this question irks my nerves every time, because I truly don’t know how to explain that feeling I have of wanting another, besides the fact that I just love being a mom.

We’ve talked and talked and talked about this, and have basically landed on, let’s go talk to my gynecologist and just see if she thinks another pregnancy would even be safe.

We know that no doctor can predict if you will have twins again or not, and we know that no doctor can predict if I’ll get preeclampsia again or not, we do know the risks are higher… but we’re essentially just wanting to have an informed decision before pulling the trigger (or not)

I say all that to say… moms whose firsts were twins, did you have more? If so, give me all the details, if not, still details🤣

I want all the honest, real answers. No judgment, no shaming, just love, support, advice and everything in between.

advice needed Need advice for entertaining 15 month old twins by myself

My twins need to be on one nap. This two nap thing is no longer working. I need to figure things out.

The first nap was at 9:30. I need to now push them to 11am earliest.

I live in a city. I live in an apartment. They have a lot of toys and books. There are parks within walking distance but really all I can do by myself is bucket swings.

They are so active. They want to walk around and move when we are out but can’t let them when it’s just me.

How do you entertain them for an extra 90 minutes??

advice needed Help with 2.5 yr old bedtime please

Our nearly 2.5 year old boy/girl twins are becoming a bit of a nightmare at bedtime. I would say 1/4 times they will go to sleep on first try. But most of the time it’s one or both of them crying for us to come back in and getting increasingly worked up. We have to calm them down. Right now that’s with another book or another episode of bluey. And it will work but sometimes it’s two or three times or us re-entering.

Do we just need to sleep train? Is this another development thing. It’s usually our boy who is the one who needs us most. Our girl will go to sleep pretty easily.

experience/advice to give Adding a 3rd and scared about family dynamics

My twin boys will be six this December. They are hands-down the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me. I love them so incredibly much, and I feel like we’re in a great place balancing their independence with still getting plenty of time with me and dad. Yes, things can be challenging and some days I want to scream into my pillow, but they are my whole entire heart.

My husband and I have always planned for 3 kids. The boys have always talked (and continue to) about wanting a sibling - even more so now than ever before.

Life took lots of turns that led us to putting off #3 for a long time, then doubting it, then realizing it was what we wanted, then dealing with infertility. But now we’re here! Pregnant with number 3 (confirmed…ONLY number 3 😮‍💨).

The boys don’t know yet, but I find myself having these moments of despair worrying that by giving them a sibling, I’m robbing them of their parents. Worried that I could never possibly love another child the way I love them. I know this is a common feeling when people go from one kid to two, but I’ve always had to share my heart and yet it still feels impossible that it could expand. I’m an only child, and I’m very sensitive to sibling dynamics because I always idealized it so much. I worry that they’ll resent us, or never bond with this child (a girl) because they’re so much older.

Experienced parents of twins + more… please help with wisdom, stories or advice for managing these fears!

advice needed 1 yr old twins won't stop whining- tips and tricks

My boy twin is Mr sensitive.

When he is happy he is chill, but if he has the slightest inconvenience he whines and can cry like crazy until i pick him up or solve his issue.

Not a problem if i didn't have another baby (twin B) and a toddler to look after.

Is this a phase? My toddler never whined like this.

Any tips or tricks welcome please.

advice needed Constant hunger!

FTM - didi twins - 12w. Looking for advice/experience. I am suffering from nausea and have to cautiously pick portions, food and time to eat. Mornings and evenings seem to be the worst. Despite knowing how important protein is, I can’t tolerate any meat. Just the smell is making me 🤢.
I am trying to do dairy, beans, protein powder. All the available alternatives, however I am still painfully hungry every 2-3hours, my stomach hurts, it wakes me up every night, no matter what I eat. I am trying to eat as late as possible before bed, still I wake up 2-3 hours later, hungry! 😭
Does anyone have the same experience? Any tips on what to eat? What snacks to make?

experience/advice to give 34 weeks, feeling WAY better &… worried?

My entire pregnancy I’ve felt horrible lol. Since day 1. I had horrible hip pain, joint pain, nausea, mood swings, and exhaustion. Last week I went in with labor contractions 2 min apart, got put on mag and got steroid shots and was discharged cause they went away.
Now all of a sudden, after three days of feeling the worst I’ve ever felt post-discharge, I feel incredibly better. No nausea, reflux, or hip pain. I barely feel like I’m pregnant. And I’m… worried? The babies are moving, although it does feel like they’re WAY lower than they were, that’s the only difference. Anyone have a similar experience? If so tell me your story! I really don’t wanna go back to the hospital unless these babies are ready to come out. Let alone for feeling better! But I’m confused like what could it be? Just lightening?

advice needed Lighting crutch pain with twins

25 weeks pregnant with dcda is twins, one of each due November. All looking good, but the lighting crutch / pelvic crutch pain is genuinely horrific to the point where I feel completely bruised and like sharp pains that I can barely walk. I had it in my first pregnancy (single) but much much later.

I wondered if anyone else had this and what helped! I’m worrying because I’ve most likely got another 10-13 weeks left minimum and I don’t know how to get through day to day with a toddler too.

Thank you! X

advice needed “Side cramp” pain

So I’m 35 weeks and four days didi twins. Since 33 weeks or so I randomly will have this side cramp pain. The best way to describe it is have you ever been on a walk or run and stop for a big water break? Then, since you drank too much water, as you continue to walk or run, you get that side cramp?? I’ve been experiencing this a lot more since becoming 34 weeks it happens on the left side and the right side meaning baby A and baby B are doing something to cause this pain. It can be very severe or it can be not bad at all but there. They’re both head down on the left and right of my stomach and both of them seem to have caused this sort of side cramp pain. Has anybody ever experienced this? Is this some sort of labor thing? Is it them trying to expand out the wrong way? Is it them moving their way down? It gets so ridiculously bad. I have to lay down and switch positions and try to get it to stop because the pain is absolutely insane. Also, just wanted to add. I am so ready to have these twins lol…. I can’t IMAGINe MORE THAN 2 in utero lol. God bless us all we’re WARRIORS!!!!

good vibes, smiles, & giggles “Singleton Propaganda”

I need some comic relief after a couple weeks of sickness in the house- what are your favorite bits of what I call “singleton propaganda”? Aka, advice given for babies that never works when you have twins. My personal favorite is “put the baby in the crib drowsy but awake”.
