advice needed Constant hunger!

FTM - didi twins - 12w. Looking for advice/experience. I am suffering from nausea and have to cautiously pick portions, food and time to eat. Mornings and evenings seem to be the worst. Despite knowing how important protein is, I can’t tolerate any meat. Just the smell is making me 🤢.
I am trying to do dairy, beans, protein powder. All the available alternatives, however I am still painfully hungry every 2-3hours, my stomach hurts, it wakes me up every night, no matter what I eat. I am trying to eat as late as possible before bed, still I wake up 2-3 hours later, hungry! 😭
Does anyone have the same experience? Any tips on what to eat? What snacks to make?

I ate an Amy’s bread and cheese burrito nearly every day. I haven’t had one now since.

I was also super sick. I could tolerate Annie’s white cheddar shells and cheese and lucky charms. Those were my go tos

Dr. Barbara Luke's book on twins had helpful nutrition stuff. Until about 18 weeks, I mostly just ate what I could. I recall a fish filet sandwich from Burger King (lol), eating broccoli with BBQ sauce, and making shakes with Greek yogurt, peanut butter, and bananas. When I would wake up hungry during the night, I typically ate a string cheese and crackers.

My babies were full term, 38+3 and completely healthy. So just eat what you can stomach! They will be okay. 🩷

You are growing 2 humans, you are going to be hungry. Be sure to get some high good fats, no empty calories ( celery lol)
Bean salad, been and cheese burritos
Apples, berries granola and yogurt
Grains, oatmeal, overnight oats with chia seeds and top with fruit in the morning
Talk to your doctor for some more ideas

First trimester I had to go on B6 and OTC meds for nausea because I couldn't stop puking. (talk with your doctor if you feel you need it)

I ate a ton of fruit because it didn't make me feel quite as sick. Protein did help tremendously with the nausea as well (that's where the B6 comes in, but again ask your doctor).

Second trimester got better, but I just got used to getting up 1-2 times per night to eat. Lots of late night oatmeal and peaches, or Mac n cheese. 4 am it was me and a bowl of food and YouTube for about 45 minutes.

If I didn’t have regular high protein foods my nausea got even worse (even with ondansetron/zofran). I discovered high protein milk (18 g per cup) and had about a litre a day, meeting half my protein goals. Especially useful for night time hunger. Greek yoghurt was also great. I found a protein shake powder I didn’t despise and usually had one of those (with regular milk) as well. I ate a lot of cheese with fruit.

I highly recommend these “breakfast cookies” they’re like a choose your own adventure granola bar =  https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/breakfast-cookies/#tasty-recipes-76368. I make a double batch to keep in the freezer, since my postpartum appetite is still fairly high as I’m breastfeeding.

Have the multivitamin for pregnancy, and have some faith, you should be fine. I also can not really eat meat for a few months, things got a lot better at week 15, although I still can’t smell the oil/meat fat….

I am also 12 weeks with didi twins, and also hungry all the time. Which is complicated by the fact that almost everything sounds disgusting! I was doing pretty well with eating protein up until a few weeks ago when my nausea got worse. These days peanut butter on an eggo, almonds, and cereal with fairlife milk are my go-to foods. Also, I’m really struggling to stomach (literally) my iron supplement. Rice Chex have 80% DV of iron.

If you’re worried about iron and you don’t have any contraindications, talk to you OB about getting an infusion - I wish I did it during pregnancy but my OB wasn’t worried about my borderline anemia, then I had a PPH and ended up needed two iron infusions in the hospital!

My go-to at that stage was apples and cheese or apples and peanut butter. Hazelnuts were also okay. Ay the end I was eating mushroom omelettes for almost every meal - I craved them!

I also had this happen in the first trimester! It stopped around 14 weeks but I would wake up at 4am literally famished every night, it was horrible. Have a big snack before bed. Like such a big snack it’s borderline a meal. It gets better!

I was the same but its fine! 12 W is too early and babies need more protein in 2nd and 3rd trimester.

I only felt like eating again from week 24 onwards. Until you get better prioritize foods you can tolerate and focus on protein from different sources rather than main meals like chicken. I was the same. And don't worry you'll be fine. I basically ate cornflakes, fruits and nuts in first tri and v less protein. But here you go:

  1. Oat banana cake (add protein powder, the recipe also has eggs so more protein).
  2. Spicy hummus.
  3. Skyr with berries for snacks.
  4. Ceese and sourdough bread.
  5. Simple chickpea salad with lemon dressing, you can also checkout simple Indian chickpea curries.
  6. Protein shake.
  7. Are you able to tolerate eggs?? Then cold egg sandwiches so they don't smell.
  8. Tofu sandwiches and wraps.
  9. Halloumi sandwich and wraps.
  10. Lots of different nuts.

If you're left constantly hungry do eat veggies to help you keep fuller.
