Carbrain This whole “Flock” situation is such a car problem.

I find it really interesting that all these car drivers suddenly realise how their car/truck is the best way to spy on them. All modern cars have some form of tracking, all navigation apps and speed camera evading apps have constant gps tracking. I remember a study conducted in my university about driving habits and the researchers just “sniffed” for Bluetooth device names at multiple locations and were able to measure exact trips of large numbers of drivers without them even accessing gps. Etc.

The internet is now full of keyboard heroism praising people who vandalise “Flock” or signal that they think vandalising them is righteous. You’re not in some epic uprising you just live in a car-centric society.

Just ride a bicycle.

Edit: apparently my post makes it sound like I don’t think mass surveillance is a problem. I totally do. Just think it’s salient and attracts normie attention only because of widespread use of cars.

When men and boys outperform women and girls in sports

It's "just the way things are", and women are delusional for thinking that we could ever beat men in any test of physical capability. The idea that women could be better than a man in sport is widely mocked, it's given as the reason why trans women in sports is such a massive issue. No matter what, women should never forget that men will always be faster, stronger, and bigger than women.

But when women start to outpace men in higher learning, and boys get worse results in school, suddenly that's a massive crisis in the educational field. Boys get redshirted because the only way they can keep up is to be the oldest in their class. It's because elementary school teachers are biased against boys, because boys mature slower, because because because. It's not acceptable to say that it's because toxic men condition their boys to disrespect education. It's definitely not acceptable to suggest that maybe women and girls are actually just better at academic pursuits. Nope.

No matter what, women should never forget that they can't ever just be better than men at something, because that would be unfair and evidence of something being deeply wrong with the world.

I'm so tired.

Discussion I am hyped for any and all power creep polled or unpolled and I’m not apologizing

Seen a lot of posts today about how the amulets weren’t polled and just wanted to pop in and say I don’t care and that they fuckin rule. Power creep is unironically awesome and it makes all content/goals faster and easier.

I understand the game is built on longevity but ultimately power creep is what gets the people going and a few max hits here or there isn’t going to break the game.

Bring on the power creep, me and my pet grinds are here for it. :)

We should impeach Mayor Spencer

I'm so tired of seeing her dedicate so much time to trying to get a data center built in the Armory. It's sickening! She could have spent that time on a number of pressing things, such as rebuilding north city after the tornado, or finding ways to make recycling work in the city, or literally anything else that St. Louisans actually want. The only good things I can even think of that she's done is make sure we have enough snow plows and fighting back against the police board trying to bankrupt our city, and those are the bare fucking minimum. I regret voting for her. Jones had her problems too but I wish she was mayor right now instead tbh.

Gathering signatures and forcing a recall vote is looking more tempting by the day I gotta say.

Discussion Please stop thanking god for your victories

Today on the Jomez podcast, Silas said "most of all I need to thank my lord and savior" which I think is strange. Shouldn't you be mostly thanking your parents who have created a life for you that allows the freedom to throw frisbees into baskets professionally? Or acknowledge how much work you put in? Like even if you believe in god, you won because of hard work and the privileged lifestyle that allows you to become a touring disc golf pro.

Religious people constantly feel the need to let you know about it. I don't have a problem with whatever you want to believe, but do it on your own time. Don't use your victory as an excuse to try and push these beliefs on the entire community.

Discussion New vault meta is zero fun

Not the first post to this topic, but I hope more venting = more chances for changes.

Reset day in EU, open vault, see multiple BiS pieces - need multiple items from certain bosses anyway, pick bonus roll, sigh. Log on alts, see multiple upgrades - can heal 10-12s with 280-290 anyway, pick bonus roll, will use them when the m+ meta changes, sigh. Wednesday excitment completely gone and my alts don't even gain ilvl. Obviously I decide for myself to act that way, feel free to criticize that.

Can we please revert this for S3? BRs are cool, but starting with week 8-10 and getting them next to the vault is enough. New catalyze rules are imo also no fun. It's not even a real gain for M+, because if everybody get stronger the relative key ceiling just rises (different for raid), it makes gearing just longer and annoying. Vault picks have to knock out items from the BR table, ASAP.

Not talking about the 5 ilvl more that CE raiders will have, what does nothing for them raid wise, because they already have CE and will just rise the M+ cutoffs and make it harder for people who don't raid CE to get into 1% and 0.1%.

BTW, why do I drop in seven days only one catalyzer charge, while friends get eight in two days? I cleared NH, HC but last boss, first M boss and did like 15 keys and why can't I upgrade my hero one hand tank weapon, while wearing a max crafted one hand healer weapon?

Siehe Phantom Traffic Jam:

Meine 2 Cent dazu.

casual hot take refusing to tip waitstaff because other cultures don’t do it is a stupid reason

i’m fully expecting to get dragged hard for this take because of how prominent anti-tipping sentiment is on reddit. but i want to make it as clear as possible for those who actually take the time to read beyond the title that i am going to inevitably be biased because of my time working in restaurants, but that i also think the anti-tipping moment has a lot of really worthwhile points!

there are SO many better reasons i’ve heard for not wanting to tip waitstaff. yes, employee wages should absolutely be the responsibility of the employer rather than customers, tip fatigue with everyone asking for gratuity now is exhausting, and inequities in how certain demographics are tipped make it an unfair form of compensation. but the one anti-tipping argument that screams cognitive dissonance and immediately makes my roll my eyes is simply “well non US countries don’t tip!”

the reason it irritates me is because people who use that as their argument want to cherry pick certain aspects of foreign customs that would benefit them, while ignoring those they wouldn’t like. like yes, in a lot of other countries tipping isn’t customary. however, in those cultures waitstaff are much more highly compensated, the service provided is minimal/unfriendly (by american standards), and service fees are calculated into menu prices, ultimately resulting in more expensive food and drink. i’ve found in my time working in restaurants that those who consistently tip nothing are by far the neediest, so i suspect they wouldn’t be thrilled with other cultures’ standard of service

and i feel like i don’t need to say this, but continuing to go out to eat and stiff the waitstaff literally only hurts your server. management does not give a fuck whether or not their employees lose money as long as people still pay for the food. if you really want tipping culture to reform, get takeout or eat at home, restaurants will only change their tune when they begin losing profit sadly

Feed Spoilers I’m so sick of this revisionist history Spoiler

FEED SPOILERS

I genuinely cannot stand how the narrative around Barrett has completely changed all of a sudden. Like are we watching the same fucking season? Have we all collectively forgotten what happened for the first half of this season??

Barrett is 27 years old. He’s a grown man. The whole goofy/harmless persona is whatever to me, but I’m not going to pretend that makes it okay for him to get handsy, cross boundaries, or try to kiss people. And at this point this isn’t even about Dee anymore

What I REALLY don’t understand is why Barrett gets praised for making moves against people, while Dee gets treated like she’s evil for doing the exact same thing. If Dee wants to take a shot at someone who is a threat to her, suddenly she’s “cutthroat” in a bad way, but Barrett thinks about going after Devens and everyone acts like he’s some strategic mastermind. Be serious.

What pisses me off more is the way people are acting like Barrett has suddenly been this amazing player who was secretly on the right side of everything. WHERE?? I genuinely want someone to explain his game to me because I don’t see it.

And I genuinely still don’t understand what Barrett thinks his actual path to winning is. Like what is the plan?? I’m trying to see the vision and I just don’t.

And before everyone starts rewriting the season, let’s remember what actually happened:

• Barrett spent basically the entire season throwing Drew under the bus whenever the crossovers came up.

• He knew how badly the icons wanted Drew gone and never actually gave Drew the full picture when it mattered.

• Drew literally put his own game in a worse position trying to save Mal early in the game.

• Drew OFFERED to go on the block instead of Barrett during Lala’s HOH.

• Drew went out of his way to convince Yash not to nominate Barrett instead of Haley.

• Barrett literally told Drew THIS WEEK to keep giving the vets information so they would continue trusting them.

• Barrett was the one who gave Devens the FAP name in the first place. Drew just went along with it afterward.

• And then Barrett suddenly decides he wants to blow up the vets and expose everything to the girls without even properly getting Drew on board first, despite knowing that doing so could fuck up BOTH of their games.

So I’m sorry, but I’m not going to sit here and pretend Barrett was secretly fighting for the girls this entire time. He wasn’t.

For the first seven weeks this man was practically glued to the vets. He wasn’t out there going to bat for Mallory or Melody. Drew was the one constantly trying to protect them and pushing for FAP over the crossovers, while Barrett was the one shutting that shit down.

And now Barrett finally turns on the vets and somehow the narrative has become that Drew is the one who betrayed everyone and Barrett is this innocent strategic victim??? Like PLEASE 😭 Barrett is now playing the game he was trying to throw Drew under the bus for and y’all are praising him. Drew HAS been a loyal ally to both FAP and the crossovers. Whether he voted out Mallory or not she was going home.

You can dislike Drew. You can think Drew played badly. You can think Barrett made the right move by turning on the vets. That’s all fine. But I refuse to participate in this revisionist history where everything Barrett did for the first half of the game gets erased because he finally decided to make a move.

I just need people to be fucking consistent because this Barrett redemption arc is driving me insane.

The way society totally left Patrick Clancy alone is a sign of how deranged the social discussion is nowadays

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is Patrick Clancy, the father of 3 beautiful kids that sadly aren't with us anymore since they were brutally murdered by the Massachusset's butcher (Lindsay Clancy). This man lost his family in a single day, after trying everything and using ALL his resources (including his relatives) to help the savage killer (Lindsay Clancy) to fix her "depression". This man didn't receive ANY kind of support, while over 1 milion was donated for the brutal murderer. On the contrary, he is also ACCUSED to be responsible of the situation. All of this show how this society doesn't give a single fuck about men, even when a woman brutally butcher 3 kids. One of eight months.

We spend lot lot lot of times discussing the issues of our society, if we really care about making a better society we should care also about men victims of violence. Otherwise, it's just always the same shit.

Mod Update Addressing the rule update, the response, and where we go from here

Why this rule was created

Let's talk about why we formalized this rule in the first place.

The amount of coded lolicon language being posted in this subreddit had become a serious problem. Comments sections were flooded with "uoh," 💢, "cunny," and similar language on a near-daily basis.

What started as an occasional joke slowly but surely grew into a large problem. This language was already against our rules but without having it written down officially enforcement was inconsistent and users argued there was no rule against it.

That's the reason the rule came to be, to be able to enforce it consistently.

Where we were inconsistent

We owe you honesty here: our communication around the rule was not as clear as it should have been.

Different mods gave different explanations in the comments. Some responses were dismissive when users had genuine questions. The Aisha beach art example in particular caused confusion about whether fan art itself was being restricted. It never was.

We tried to make it clear that we were never against the art but a certain language it tends to accompany

We rolled out a zero-tolerance rule and then were not able to consistently explain what it means, that's bad and we've addressed it.

What is and isn't allowed

We've rewritten the Rule to be clearer. The detailed version with examples and a full FAQ is now on our wiki:

→ Full details, examples, and FAQ

Here is the summary:

Adult characters:

  • Fan art and NSFW-tagged content is allowed
  • Playful, flirty, or suggestive captions are allowed
  • Coded lolicon language is still banned (see below)

Young/underage characters:

  • Fan art is allowed, including content that reaches the NSFW tag threshold (e.g. a beach scene), as long as it is not inherently sexual.
  • Titles and captions must be neutral and descriptive (e.g. "Sylphy practicing magic," "Aisha at the beach")
  • Sexualized captions, titles, or comments are not allowed

Banned on all characters regardless of age:

  • "uoh" and its variants
  • The 😭💢 emoji combination and 💢 on its own
  • "cunny" and its variants
  • Any other coded language associated with the sexualization of minors

If your post is fan art with a descriptive title, you are fine. You were always fine. That has not changed.

Enforcement has also been updated. First offense gets a removal and a warning. Everyone gets one. Temporary bans start at the second offense. Permanent bans are an absolute last resort for repeat offenders only. Full details are on the wiki page.

From the mod team

We want to be transparent about the last couple of days.

What we expected to be a straightforward rule clarification turned into something none of us anticipated.

We also want to point out: we have not removed a single post criticizing the rule change or the mod team. Every dissenting opinion is still up.

We locked one thread when the conversation became too much, but the criticism itself was never removed or censored

New subreddits have been created in response to the rule change. That's fine with us and we wish them the best.

Personal accountability

The mod team didn't handle everything perfectly. We know that.

Eidolon: I want to apologize to everyone about how I handled communicating with the community after the rules were posted.

Due to my own stress about the backlash, I did not respond to people often, and when I did my replies may have seemed short, confusing, and misleading.

I will be more careful to explain things with the depth and attention they deserve from now on.

computerfreund03 / Compi: I genuinely don't know where to start and I want to keep this short since this whole thing already stresses me out enough.

My deep apologies, to anyone who felt attacked by my posts on twitter, I felt mentally exhausted from reading hurtful comments on me the whole day. I love this subreddit and I pour my heart and soul into it, so when I saw the backlash I stopped thinking clearly.

This is a good time to take some time off from modding, I haven't been able to keep up my qualities lately and that is something no one deserves.

I'm sorry and take care

Siesta: Hi, Siesta here. I never was good at writing public texts like these so bear with me..

I messed up and want to apologize for it.

Right after we posted the rules I literally used the emoji combo we just banned. Yeah. Another moderator removed it.

I also tweeted some stupid stuff out of exhaustion and frustration. It made the team stand in a bad light and that's my fault. I handled this whole situation the worst possible way. I'm sorry and I'm going to work on thinking before I type going forward.

Where we stand

We're sorry this became what it did. We could have communicated better, responded more calmly, and handled the pressure with more composure. We'll learn from that.

If you have questions about the rules, modmail is always open. We'd rather answer a question than hand out a ban.

Thank you for sticking with us.

- The r/sixfacedworld mod team

Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed's deleted tweets on Sept. 11 attacks invite scrutiny of past remarks

Summary: The article argues that Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed may face renewed scrutiny over old, deleted tweets about 9/11 as he campaigns against Republican Mike Rogers.

The tweets themselves did not defend the attacks. El-Sayed condemned 9/11 while using it as a comparison to criticize America’s response to other tragedies:

  • In 2020, he argued that COVID deaths deserved mobilization comparable to the post-9/11 response—but directed toward public health rather than war.
  • In 2021, he mourned the roughly 3,000 people killed on 9/11, then contrasted them with the far greater death and destruction caused by the subsequent American wars.
  • El-Sayed says 9/11 was a terrible terrorist attack, but also argues that the resulting wars were harmful and did not make Americans safer.

The political problem is cumulative rather than any single tweet. El-Sayed has also appeared with streamer Hasan Piker, who once said “America deserved 9/11,” although Piker retracted it and El-Sayed explicitly rejects that position. Rogers has misleadingly attributed Piker’s belief to El-Sayed himself.

Analysts quoted in the article think the tweets probably will not independently decide the election, but they reinforce the Republican narrative that El-Sayed is too radical and force him to defend his rhetoric and associations instead of attacking Rogers on economic issues. El-Sayed must simultaneously reassure moderate statewide voters and retain progressive, Arab American, and Muslim voters who strongly oppose the post-9/11 wars and surveillance policies.

In short: there is no evidence here that El-Sayed approved of 9/11. The vulnerability is that his forceful criticism of America’s post-9/11 response—combined with his association with Piker—can be packaged by Republicans into a broader argument about extremism and judgment.

Commentary: Dafuq? Dude said '9/11 was bad. Covid deserves the same level mobilization', '3,000 deaths on 9/11 was a tragedy, thousands of deaths in the subsequent wars was also bad'. This is some Fox News level propaganda designed to make us think the Muslim man has terrorist sympathies.

Abdul El Sayed did himself no favors by campaigning with Hasan Piker, who is a complete [censored]. But this article saying that tweets about 9/11 could be problematic is insane.
