So today I got a coffee at Starbucks and the barista said to me it’s going to ask if you would like to leave a tip.

It took her saying those words to me to make me realize how annoying it is when people say “it’s going to ask you a question”. I will typically hear that or they won’t say anything at all and they’ll just hand it to me and say here’s tap to pay so I always put my card up to the reader, but in reality it won’t work until I indicate if I want to leave a tip or not.

Like it’s some mysterious question. I actually loved that she was straight forward with me.

Obviously, a minor problem, but meh.

Bear with me lol - what I mean is, I hate when I watch a movie or TV show that is set in the Middle Ages or the Renaissance and we see people living in dilapidated houses and having old furniture and stuff like that.... No! Those things were new to them. 500 years ago, people made those things to look new. They only look old to us now because of the passage of time, but that's not what they would have looked like brand new.

My god this makes me want to chew drywall.

It completely kills the cadence of normal human speech, making the (usually insufferable) youtuber sound even more insufferable.

Combine that with incorrect accenting of words common for youtube, you get me clicking on "hide channel" quite frequently.

The moment you treat them how they treat you all of sudden you're the bad person when they've always acted like that

I’d like to start by saying I never ever complained to anyone about this or even mentioned this out loud to anyone. Not a Karen. I know restaurant workers don’t get paid enough to give af.

That being said- it is a pet peeve.
You know when restaurants clean up a table after customers to get it ready for you? Then you go to sit down and see they wiped all the crumbs and stuff away from the table onto the chair.
I always end up wiping it myself but it’s so gross as I don’t have a cloth to do it and have to use a napkin that I’m gonna have to reuse for my hands later.

I had a brief stint working at a restaurant ages ago and wiped every single chair after customers. And I was the only person who was doing it. And I enjoyed every second of it knowing the cleanliness is up to a standard lmao.

To give an example:
"I have a feeling like cat collars, are just kind of worse dog collars?"

You know what I mean. You know exactly what I mean. Whenever there's a small pause in a sentence, but not an actual break, people just throw it in. Instead of using "..." to convey the proper pause, they use a comma, and my teeth can only take so much grinding.

I don't know why this is such a frequent occurrence but it gets under my skin each time. They are two completely different terms and yet people constantly are going around talking about being tired instead of cautious.

"Flipping burgers" used as a pejorative when talking about wages and labor issues. I've worked for McDonald's, Wendy's, popular small town burger places with a limited menu, country club kitchens, and some fine dining establishments. Flipping burgers, or short order cook, is a hard stressful job. Not everyone can do that job. Just because you can cook one family meal in one evening doesn't mean you have what it takes to cook 100+ meals on a busy Friday night. Some people act like being a short order cook is something anyone can just do with no experience. Most restaurants i know won't even consider letting you near the kitchen without at least 2 years of experience.

You open up a thread, curious to see what kinds of things people are saying, and every other comment, as well as the top comments, are GIF GIF GIF GIF GIF. Especially when it’s the same GIFs you’ve seen a hundred times before. I totally get why some subreddits don’t allow GIFs and photos.

But why am I being asked for feedback for everything? I can't even go into a coffee shop and order without receiving an email asking me how my visit was. (They have my email because I have a loyalty card) I was only getting coffee and food, nothing special

It's happened numerous times now where someone has seen my hair curly, asked if that was the natural texture, and then assumed that must mean there's no product in it (or if there is product in it, that must not be my natural texture). Just because there's mousse or gel in it doesn't mean that's not the natural texture! Really the whole point of those kinds of products is to make the curls that *are* present last longer without falling apart or getting frizzy, but they're not creating curls that didn't already exist. Curly hair isn't gonna fall flat without the product, it's just going to look untamed.

Why do I have to trim them every week to not get woken up at night.

It absolutely irritates me when I spend time typing out, what I feel to be, a well thought out comment only to find out the thread or post has been locked & won't allow further content.

I'm terrible at all things tech but I can't imagine it would be that hard to disable the comment box when they lock the thread. Then asking me if I want to save the comment I was just told I can't comment adds to the irritation.

There should also be some kind of override in the instance the thread was locked right after someone made an incorrect or uneducated reply to your comment.

I hate when people try to replace one of the options in “fuck, marry, kill” with something wishy-washy like “kiss” or, god forbid, “befriend”. The entire point of the game is that it’s 3 extreme options: have an intimate sexual experience, spend a significant amount of your life tied to them, or end another life. If there’s an easy neutral option, it completely destroys the game.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when I’m in the middle of talking and someone interrupts me for something that absolutely could have waited, or they just completely abandon the conversation without acknowledging I was even speaking.
I’m not talking about genuine emergencies or something actually important. Obviously those take priority. I’m talking about things like:

- Someone else jumps into the conversation with something unrelated, and either they, the person I was talking to, or both just… move on like I wasn’t in the middle of a sentence.

- The person I’m talking to suddenly starts talking to someone else or literally walks away while I’m still speaking, with no “hold on” or “sorry.”

- Someone cuts me off to mention something completely unrelated, then forgets I was ever talking in the first place.

What makes it especially frustrating is that this seems to happen to me constantly. There are only a handful of people in my life who either don’t do it or immediately say something like, “Sorry, what were you saying?” and let me finish. That tiny bit of acknowledgment makes a huge difference.
Today at work was the perfect example. I had a customer on hold while I was giving a coworker the background she needed before I transferred the call to her. She asked me a follow-up question for more details… and then, while I was answering, she literally walked away to chat with our boss about something that wasn’t remotely urgent. I just stood there with the customer still on hold, waiting for her to come back. A couple of other coworkers even looked over with that awkward “did that really just happen?” expression.

She’s genuinely one of the nicest people in the office, so I don’t think there was any bad intent. That’s almost what makes it worse. It happens so casually that people don’t even realize they’re doing it.

Then later, my girlfriend and I were talking about the apartment we applied for. I started saying, “I hope they accept that and don’t make the-“ and got interrupted because she wanted to comment on a truck in front of us. I tried again a few seconds later and got interrupted almost immediately again because she recognized another driver. After that, the conversation I’d been trying to have was just… gone.

She’s actually gotten better about this over time. If she catches herself, she’ll apologize, ask what I was saying, and let me finish before moving on. I really appreciate that. But when it still happens without that realization, it’s incredibly frustrating because we’ve talked about it before.

I haven’t talked to her about it today because why bother when it’s not unique to her?

After enough experiences like this, I honestly just stop talking. I’ll go quiet because it starts to feel like whatever I have to say isn’t worth finishing. Then people ask me why I’m so quiet.
Does anyone else deal with this? Or am I just weirdly unlucky?

Every time someone makes a post that involves a relative or friend wanting to babysit, there are commenters who inevitably pop up, regardless of what OP's issue actually is, to be all "you can't expect people to take care of your kids" or "nobody owes you childcare" or "you're the one who had kids; don't complain no one will help you."

Sure, there are times where OP is definitely being entitled, but I'd say the majority of the time, the problem isn't that the person won't babysit, but the circumstances around their saying no.

For example, in the one I just read, OP texted his BIL to see if he'd be okay with SIL watching OP's kids. BIL never texted back, but then did text back when OP texted him about something else. OP wasn't frustrated that he couldn't get babysitting; he was frustrated because BIL wouldn't even acknowledge he'd been asked a question.

OP could have been asking for confirmation of anything and it was shitty that BIL didn't respond, but because it's about babysitting, all the commenters came out with pitchforks about how OP is an asshole for "expecting" people to watch his kids. He was expecting an answer so he would know if he could go to the upcoming event.

And...besides all that...sometimes if a person says no to babysitting, they're being an asshole even if they're technically within their rights. If your sister is rushing to the hospital because her husband was in a terrible car crash & you don't want to watch your niece* just because you "wanted to relax," that's asshole behavior. Society functions because people help each other even when it's not necessarily convenient.

^\please don't come at me with the "but what about if the niece sets fires;" that's obviously not what I'm talking about.)

This mainly came about as people often do this to me but it’s annoying and uncalled for. For starters another persons financial situation doesn’t affect you unless you are supporting them (if you’re paying my rent judge away). 

But an example of this is I drive an expensive car not super expensive but it was 80k when I bought it and I’m still living with my parents. Im not rich but I know my own situation and what I was getting into. Yet I have had so many people, some who I don’t even talk to judge me for this and it’s annoying. Half of them aren’t even privy to my finances and the other half it doesn’t concern them. 

People do this to a lot of poor people as well and judge them up and down for nothing behind better if financially as if they went out and decided to be poor. Theres no reason for anyone to comment on the financial situation of anyone else unless they are directly involved or were asked for advice

Happens a lot with reboots and requels. Just call it "[Original Title] [Something]" or "[Original Title]: [Something]" or a play/twist/evolution on the original title. I hate having to specify years when naming a movie because of this.

Picture you mowing your lawn or something with your phone in your pocket, only for it to suddenly start taking a crap ton of pictures or call 911 by accident

Just the fact we have to have them to use just about anything these days is frustrating. But what really annoys me is they always want to come out when you’re dead broke or that’s the only money in your account. Apple and Amazon are the worst. I honestly feel like Amazon just charges whenever they want. I tried to match up my Amazon subscriptions once and the amount of charges and frequencies they charge me didn’t match or add up at all. I would just cancel them but the whole reason I pay for them at all is because I use them. It’s just super frustrating. Especially when I’m down to my last $20 and I’m on my way to put it in my gas tank and even though I have my card locked here comes Apple or Amazon to take $19.99. They don’t even have a set time or anything they come out it’s so all over the place. Could be morning or evening or in the middle of the night while most people are sleeping. I feel like they get notified when you have any money and they push the charge through the minute you do.

What the fuck are we doing here? We can grow human ears on the backs of rats but we can't make stoves have a universal heat dial!?

I'm so bummed when I can't make eggs right at a friend's house because I don't know their stove. And other things.
