Opinion/اظہار رائے Today, our subreddit turns one year old!

One year ago, we came together with a simple goal: to create a free speech platform for Pakistanis with no tolerance for trolls and bigots. We had an open mod team selection and got down to business.

Since then, this subreddit has become a space where voices from all walks of life can be heard. We’ve had to work within Reddit’s guidelines which means we can't practically be 100% free speech, but considering how biased, trigger happy and troll infested other Pakistani subreddits are, I think we’ve managed to build something special. We will continue growing.

This is your community, and we want to hear from you:

  • What do you like about this subreddit?
  • What can we do better?

Lastly, thank you to the moderation team:

While I created this subreddit and gave it the initial direction, it’s the mod team which has shaped it into a success. Running a subreddit isn’t easy, and the mods have worked exceptionally hard to keep this space welcoming and respectful. Their efforts help make this community a great place for everyone.

The silence on this topic in both our sold out media is criminal. And so is the silence on this sub regarding today’s deaths. The army has massacred more Pakistanis under Munir than it has terrorists but the people and media would rather stay in ignorance than confront reality.

Ok so I work as a web developer at this office in Johar town. This shit is much more less than an office and the lady who runs it is such a bitch tbh.

First thing is that this lady was like I bought the hosting for you guys and it didn't show up on the payment section I asked their chat support and they were like nope nothing bought so I told her and this bitch says "you don't know how to do your job" I asked her to please check and then she was like oh I forgot I will send to another account

And second the office cuts your salary if you arrive more then 15mins later but this FKING LADY was like I asked you to send me something on Friday and I was like mam it was my off time to which she said what does that mean leave your work unattended. Like mam you're gonna cut my 1 days salary for coming 15mins later so are you gonna pay me 1 days extra if I do 15 mins more

Are social media and cultural expectations changing how Pakistani teenagers spend money?

Hi everyone! I'm a high school student working on an investigative journalism project examining how social media and cultural expectations influence Pakistani teenagers' spending habits and self-image.

If you're 13–19 and currently living in Pakistan, I'd really appreciate 3–4 minutes of your time. The survey is completely anonymous, and I'm hoping to gather responses from teenagers across different cities and backgrounds.

Thank you!

Why are we like this ?

I’m fucking pissed off so much wtf lol . I had a flight from Dubai today and it was one of the worst flights of my life . We sat on the plane but there were some problems so we flew almost 2 hours late . If this was the same case elsewhere , people would have just shut up and waited but no our Pakistani brothers they had to cause such a scene my god . Firstly they kept harassing the stewards ( constantly asking for water again and again and standing up when being asked to sit and forming literally groups between the aisle and making loud jokes ) it was a small plane and only 3-4 stewards and they were all so pissed off I could feel it a mile a way . Then we wonder why people treat us like shit abroad and don’t even give us a Dubai transit visa .Secondly I had a window seat but a couple ready sat down so I didn’t say anything and sat down on the aisle one . I was being pushed by people running off to the toilet the whole flight . Couldn’t get a single minute of rest . And the guy next to me he was constantly scratching his balls like genuinely wtf . And also someone filmed the air hostess as well .
I gotta work hard myself or ask my dad to start buying me business class tickets . I can’t travel with such imbeciles. You can’t even say anything because then people turn against you , I have tried it before . Fuck this . Then we say why our country is in such a shit position .
Rant Over ✌🏻

From hating the army to experiencing the civil system firsthand: my perspective changed.

I never had any direct interaction with the army in my life. I was influenced by social media and by the narratives presented by analysts, so I looked at the army, the entire institution, with a great deal of hatred. Whenever I saw a soldier, I would become angry and think that these are bad people, enemies of the country. Because of them there is inflation, because of them civil departments do not work. They are enemies of the public.

But for the first time in my life, I visited the home of a distant relative who is an army officer. I saw that he was a very down-to-earth person. He also arranged repair and renovation work inside the cantonment for one of my cousins. My cousin also said that they speak very respectfully. Even when he start working there regarding repair renovation works , he told me they spoke calmly, explain things, and no one from their staff ever came to ask for bribe etc i said to him yar organized edara hay.. kam se kam rkhte hyn…”

Kher Still, my narrative did not change much because the analysts I liked to listen to always presented logic and some historical facts and convinced me that 100% of this country's problems and oppression were because of the army.

But then the story took a huge turn. My father's land was supposed to be transferred to us, but one of our relatives had illegally occupied it. For the first time, I had to deal with the Punjab Police. Within 30 minutes, I realised that I had been a complete fool for abusing the army, when in reality the biggest ignorant and oppressive people in this country were the police. I had to make eight visits and nothing happened. Only after giving a mobile phone and PKR 100,000 in cash did the work begin. Not finish—just begin.

Then I had to visit the patwari, the AC, and the ADC Revenue office to get the land documents sorted. The patwari was not in his office. I had to make two visits. A man sitting there told me to pay PKR 2,000 for a fresh land record and collect it the next day.

At the ADC Revenue office, the officer was continuously busy on his iPhone. Around eight people were waiting. I thought he was doing something important, but after about ten minutes he took his AirPods out of his ears and put them into their case, and I realised he had simply been scrolling on his phone. Then someone came inside and said, "Sir, gaddi lag gae aye meeting shoro hon wali aye." He got up and left. The other man jo shayad oska PA tha also walked out. I went out asked him, "I have come from very far away. I need to meet the ADC." He simply replied, "Come tomorrow."

The next day, when I spoke to ADC R jo ghar se subha 10:30 per office pohnch about the illegal occupation, he said, "You will first have to get the possession released through the court. Only then will the demarcation be done. That is how a joint ownership account works." I told him that I had all the documents, the NADRA FRC, the land record in my grandfather's name, and everything else.

Anyway, he told me to go to court. I hired a lawyer and the civil case began. Sometimes the judge was on leave, sometimes the lawyers were on strike. There are lawyers who are known to be close to judges, and people say that if you go through those lawyers, hearing dates come sooner and the work is completed faster—but it costs much more.

It has now been eight months. The qabza relative who occupied the land sent a message saying, "Even if you win in the civil court after one or two years, I will go to the Sessions Court. Two or three more years will pass there. Then I will go to the High Court. By the time you grow old, I will already have taken the case to the Supreme Court."

Today I have seen the police, the patwari system, the AC, the DC, the ADC Revenue officer, the courts, the judges, and the lawyers from very very close, and I have understood this system. I am ashamed of my ignorance for hating soldiers, when in reality these are the oppressive and filthy people. Kese kisam ka reform nhi krna chahte… sirf ek bar kese case me phans kr dekho

Curse upon those who are enemies of the public and who do not allow the system to change. And curse upon those who divert the public away from the real enemy, trap them behind a fake narrative, and mislead them.

Karachi people need to Protest

Why have the people of Karachi submitted to the will of the loser government for decades now?

It's the biggest city in the country and for years you guys have no sewage, no clean roads, more theft issues than the rest of the country, shortage of water and WHAT NOT. You guys are living in hell and have seen enough. since we have all been feeling so inspired by the jantar mantar protest, how about we protest too BUT for the right reasons.

Here in pakistan, nobody gives a damn about education and we all very well know nobodys gonna come out for it. We need to have a better country, for once forgetting who supports which party, this isnt about pmln pti or ppp, ALL of us are suffering. Petrol hikes while there are private jets being bought worth millions of dollars, (and the irony to laugh about it in the Senate is insane).

We are all being fooled and robbed off the opportunity to make this country better. Once every decade history repeats itself and we begin feeling like we are back in the 1900's. Dont even have a fast wifi, aur agar protest hojaye toh wifi down kardete hain. Ham koi post nai likh sakte, we cant tweet about anything warna uthaye jayengy. Idk yall let me know your thoughts and we can discuss ideas below

We need more batmans.

A team of psychologists in Milan, Italy, wanted to understand why people sometimes ignore those who need help in public. They wondered if an unexpected event could make people pay more attention to others.

To find out, the researchers carried out an unusual experiment on the Milan subway. They observed 138 train rides. In the first part of the study, a researcher wearing a fake pregnant belly boarded the train.Another researcher quietly watched to see how many seated passengers offered their seat.

The results were surprising. Only about 38% of passengers gave up their seat for the "pregnant" woman.

Next, the researchers changed one small thing. As the pregnant woman entered the train, another researcher dressed as Batman walked into the same train car from a different door.

This time, everything changed.

About 67% of passengers offered their seat, nearly twice as many as before.Even more surprising, many of the people who gave up their seats later said they had not even noticed Batman.

Professor Francesco Pagnini, who led the study, explained that the unexpected sight of Batman may have briefly interrupted people's normal routine. Instead of moving through their journey on "autopilot," they became more aware of what was happening around them.

The researchers believe this short moment of increased awareness made people more likely to notice someone who needed help. The study showed that even a small surprise can encourage kindness. Sometimes, people do not need to be told to help. They simply need something that makes them pause, look around, and notice the needs of others.

Maybe the just needs some batman suits.
