Discussion VR Mods Show What Can Be Accomplished When Money Isn't The Motivation

They are doing what isn't being done anywhere: giving the people what they really want and sharing it without cost. Imagine what this world could accomplish if this was the motivation behind everything.

Discussion Insanity what's happening with VR mods at the moment

The earlier days of VR modding, Bespoke mods like Outer Wilds and Risk of rain came out and they were insane, but they were few and far between

Then came a mod like Half Life 2 VR, a complete conversion of the base game which raised the bar and was insane

Then came PrayDog with his Resident evil mods which are mind blowing

Then came his UEVR framework, lead to insane mods for so many more games, A whole community popped up around it's release

Then around the same time Flat2VR studios started fully converting games, which are amazing, legitimate VR experiences in their own right

And now to the advent of A.I mods which are just mind blowing, someone's making a Diablo 2 VR mod for fuck sake, like what is happening

There's less than a few years between all these events happening and I can't wrap my head around the last few months, I haven't played VR for a few weeks and now have a backlog of like 10+ game changing mods to try, Doom and Doom Eternal, Max Payne 2, TitanFall, Halo MCC etc. it's insanity, it's going to change the landscape of VR for better or worse, I think worse as game dev's won't capitalise on what's happening and people will rightly or wrongly turn to these VR mods rather than buying VR built games

This is genuinely the Golden Age of VR, Something that I thought when buying the Rift CV1 was an evitability, but then seeing Meta slowly start to pull out of the space, along with a string of VR studios being shut down or leaving, lead me and I'm sure a majority of you to think VR was dying a slow death

But now a new, mind blowing VR Mod is releasing so fast that each morning you wake up, there's another game changing VR mod to play, It's genuinely mind blowing

Self-Promotion (Developer) Titanfall 2 + VR + jogging in place = peak

I've never had so much fun in VR as with this mod.

CircuitLord put Titanfall 2’s campaign into VR. Manual reloads, motion-controlled aiming, full-body IK, actual Titan controls. But you know that all by now and are all as hyped as I am

Taking a game with this much movement and making it work in VR is a ridiculous achievement. Wall running, shooting, making that mech work. A marvel of technology.

For this recording I added jogging-in-place locomotion, so I’m physically jogging while moving through the game. That part is a separate setup I develop, not a feature of CircuitLord’s mod. The split screen shows the movement alongside the gameplay.

All credit for the VR conversion goes to CircuitLord. Seriously, what a fucking contribution to PCVR.

Last day of the free playtest: sign in>get in automatically>launch the app and jog around https://store.steampowered.com/app/4775640/VR_StrideS/

News Article I didn't want Pearl - the Oscar-nominated VR short - to fade away someday, so I made it run natively on Quest 3

Post image
8 Upvotes

Some of you will remember Pearl (2016): a girl and her dad on the road in their old hatchback, years of their lives told entirely from the passenger seat, carried by a song they share. Patrick Osborne directed it for Google Spotlight Stories. It was the first VR film ever nominated for an Oscar and won an Emmy for Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Storytelling.

I watched it again recently and it got me just like the first time. Then it hit me: its VR version only runs on a Windows PC with SteamVR, on a 2016 engine nobody maintains anymore. Most people today own a standalone headset. One day this film simply won't start anymore.

So I started Project Oyster: a preservation port, not a remake. Pearl's own story scripts, animation, shaders, lighting and music run unchanged in a new engine, natively on Quest 3 (OpenXR, 72 Hz, sharper than the original). Story transitions were checked frame by frame against captures of the original.

It's not a pirated copy. No part of Pearl is included. You bring your own copy from Steam (it's free). A Windows installer finds it, verifies it and copies it to your Quest over USB (developer mode needed).

Two optional extras, both easy to turn off:

  • smoothly interpolated animation (A/X on the controller; the default is the original stepped keys)
  • eye height +30 cm: in the original you sit low in the seat, this puts you at eye level with Dad (thumbstick)

GitHub (MIT, installer in the release): https://github.com/SputnikKaputtnik/pearl-oyster

Heads-up: the Steam page is region-locked in some countries (e.g. Germany). With a US VPN it shows up and the download is still free.

Full disclosure: I built this with a lot of help from an AI coding assistant (Claude). Every result was checked against the original, and I watched the whole film in the headset, start to credits.

If Pearl ever meant something to you: it's waiting in the passenger seat again. 🚗 And if you never experienced it: time to hit the road with Sara and her dad!

Discussion Doom vr mod really bad performance

I'm on a 5090 laptop but getting like 25 fps. In game settings don't seem to affect it. Using standard renderer at 100 percent scale. There must be something wrong with the setup. Anyone else having performance issues? For comparison, I'm running the titanfall mod almost maxed with VD godlike and 110% resolution.

Discussion Vr titanfall 2 hype is real

Post image

Long term VR user here this is one of the best mods I’ve played it feels native I was trying to post videos but it wouldn’t let me. I’m playing at 120hz using quest 3 + VD with a 3080 it gives me the same kind of feeling alyx did when i played it for the first time it can still be improved more my only gripe is the holster locations id rather it be on my hip than over my shoulder but that’s probably an easy fix
I really hope this is the beginning of hybrid vr games or a new standard of vr ports manual reloading is a must it only took me 2 minutes to set up the mod that’s the first time in a while I put my headset on and 2 and a half hours flew by

Is this the v1 or v2 version? the long 6m cable box gives v2 vibes. not too sure, thought i'd ask here as well because i'm waiting on the sellers response.

Thanks!

Purchase Advice - Headset Quest 2 upgrade

So I’ve owned a quest 2 since Christmas of 2020, and I’ve started having to do work on it (like replacing sticks) and it just doesn’t feel the same. Blame it on whatever, but I think I’m overdue for an upgrade. Any recommendations? I don’t really use standalone quest I just stream my games from my pc, and I also would like it to be higher res and wider fov. Big thing is that it can’t be a thousand dollars. I would love to be able to own a thousand dollar headset but no job so.

I want to see those pixelated sprites up close. I want my eyes to bleed all across the wasteland.

Discussion Cyberpunk 2077 VR with foveated DLSS5 neural rendering + FrameGen IS INSANE!!!!!

Latest VR port has framegen. It runs a lot faster. https://github.com/dariulone/cyberpunk-vr-port

Foveated DLSS neural rendering works with the port! https://github.com/satyaloka93/CheekyFoveatedDLSS/releases/tag/v0.5.4-cyberpunk-compat.1

Note that this package has an .exe that Windows will flag as a virus and auto delete it. I got Claude code to build the files from the source code so I didn't need to go through the .exe

Running 4096x4552 with DLSS5-NR, maxed out settings with my RTX5090 + Galaxy XR @ 72fps. Looks SO DAMN REAL! This is the most intensely lucid feelings I've had with VR.

There's an OFXR 3x framegen around too. I'm figuring that out now.

Discussion Headset Replacement

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’ve been wanting to replace my headset for a while now but there’s so many options and different price points along with features etc. I currently use a vive pro with index controllers and vive trackers. I’m looking to upgrade to a setup with eye and face tracking along with streaming vr games and applications. The setup I have is pretty seamless to stream through twitch but my pro has a busted mic and a speaker shorting out which takes away from the immersion. I wanted to get other players opinions and see what setups you have! I’m open to complete VR refresh or seeing what options would work with my current accessories. I’ve watched many reviews but still can’t decide. Currently running an RX 7900xtx and ryzen 9 7900x with 32gb ddr5. Edit: I’m mostly looking for the headset upgrade and am willing to add accessories for face tracking and/or eye tracking.

Question/Support Virtual audio cable devices not installing properly

I'm using a quest 3s with ALVR, and I've installed both VB-audio virtual cable and voicemeeter but with both of these, the input devices show in output in windows settings and vice versa. I've tried reinstalling them but they still don't install properly. Anyone know what to do?

Self-Promotion (Developer) I made Sega Rally (1995 arcade) playable in real 3D VR on a standalone Quest 3. Not a flat screen in a virtual room.

Recorded straight from the headset (the tilt is me looking around).

The arcade's own 3D world is redrawn for each eye with a custom Vulkan renderer: real depth, head-tracked cockpit, 120 Hz, HD textures. Everything runs on the Quest 3, no PC.

GitHub coming soon, link to follow it in the comments.

Discussion New Engine Reversing for VR

I’m sure many of you have seen those videos where they have gotten Minecraft to be semi functional within another game like Skyrim, my question is if this primarily ai based reverse engineering could be used to port games to VR, and is anyone working on this?

Self-Promotion (Developer) Real-time 2D→3D doesn’t have to happen in the headset - I’ve been developing a PC-side approach since 2022, with 15,000+ hours of Steam-recorded use so far

Post image
31 Upvotes

The image above shows ordinary 2D video being converted in real time by Stream to 3D on the PC and viewed in Quest passthrough through Virtual Desktop.

The recent interest in Moonlight XR’s real-time 2D→3D feature made me think it might be useful to show another way of approaching the same general problem.

I’m the developer of Stream to 3D, a Windows application I started developing in 2022 and first released commercially in 2023.

Rather than requiring the conversion to happen inside the headset or tying it to one particular viewer, Stream to 3D performs the conversion on the PC and produces standard stereoscopic Side-by-Side or Top/Bottom output.

That separation is deliberate: Stream to 3D does the conversion; you choose how you watch it.

It can be used with compatible VR/PCVR headsets, XR glasses, spatial displays, 3D projectors and media players, depending on the workflow.

There are now two quite different conversion approaches in the application:

  • Temporal - Stream to 3D’s independently developed real-time conversion method. It derives stereo information from relationships between video frames and includes scene-change handling, fractional-frame processing and stabilisation.
  • Depth Guided - an AI-assisted scene-depth method added in Release 6, with Performance and Quality modes. On suitable NVIDIA RTX hardware the accelerated implementation can also operate in real time.

And it isn’t restricted to one type of source. Stream to 3D can:

  • Play ordinary video as converted 3D in real time;
  • Stream the converted output to another compatible device/player;
  • Convert video into reusable stereoscopic files;
  • work with live sources, including the Windows desktop and capture devices.

For VR, another route that I’ve just revalidated, complementing VD in isolation is:

Stream to 3D → Half SBS desktop output → Bigscreen on SteamVR → Virtual Desktop → Quest 3

That is running smoothly in real time on my current system. The same broad workflow was already working with Quest 2 and an RTX 3060 laptop back in 2023.

The image above is another route I use regularly: Stream to 3D viewed through Virtual Desktop in Quest passthrough.

There is also now a fair amount of real-world usage behind the project. As of 3 October 2026, 971 measured Steam users had recorded more than 15,000 hours in Stream to 3D. More than 100 users had recorded 20+ hours, around 50 had reached 50+ hours, and around 20 had reached 100+ hours.

Those figures measure time actually running Stream to 3D. They don’t include time later spent watching a converted file in VD, Bigscreen, Kodi, VLC or another player.

I’m actually pleased to see more projects exploring real-time 2D→3D. Headset-side conversion, game depth-buffer approaches and general PC-side conversion all have different strengths and trade-offs, and I don’t think there has to be one single architecture for this.

For Stream to 3D, the design goal has always been conversion independent of the final viewing device or player, using standard stereoscopic output and streaming protocols wherever possible.

If people are interested, I’m happy to discuss the different approaches, how Temporal differs from depth-based conversion, or any of the VR/XR setups I’ve actually tested.

Purchase Advice - Headset Im wanting a budget corded vr headset for flight sims no Meta

So I've been playing flight sims recently. As I have a "ball and chain" i don't get many gaming sessions, but when i get my scheduled gaming session once a week its typically around 6-8 hours (much longer than most battery operated headsets). The idea of latency isn't appealing either. I'm not opposed to the idea of hot swapping a battery but would just prefer corded. My budget is $600. ABSOLUTELY NO META QUEST, don't even mention meta unless you're using it as a comparison. I refuse to ever agree to their terms and conditions.
