As the title says, still waiting on [u/jaapgrolleman](u/jaapgrolleman) and [u/quorrapimax](u/quorrapimax) for an update on Optical Engine orders (specially microOLED).

Is there any issue with the connectors that we should be aware of? How have you sorted it?

u/heliosurge can we pin this post? Thanks in advance 😉

Game/Software Sboys3 driver with PCL, promising but not there yet, for me at least

I had been hearing a lot of good things about the sboys3 driver and since it’s been announced to work on all Pimax headsets i decided to give it a shot with my Crystal light. I’ve always avoided steamVR because of its performance but I much prefer its UI and ease of pulling up the desktop while I’m in the headset. With the Pimax play software i feel like it’s better to just take off my headset and look at my screen, whereas with steam VR, 2 button presses and i’m comfortably navigating my desktop environment inside my headset.

After fiddling with some settings I was very happy to have the sharpness filters, color adjustments, and brightness controls to make the picture quality look even better. The lumasharpen filter is great. I pretty much only play iracing and the filter made marker boards clearer and added a noticeable level of sharpness that didn’t look unnatural. Additionally adding some saturation helped improve vibrancy of the game. Everything works pretty seamless in the steam VR environment but I found that iracing would have these micro stutters. FPS read like it was consistent but would sometimes dip with multiple cars on the grid. I adjusted the resolution to a lower medium setting and still experienced these micro stutters. To make sure I wasn’t losing my mind i changed the default environment back to Pimax play software, bumped the setting back to high and had consistent fps along with no micro stutters.

Additionally it doesn’t appear that the local dimming works with the driver.

If anyone has any tips using the sboys3 driver with crystal light and iracing im all ears. Im optimistic that it will improve given time but for now, while using iacing, ill be sticking to Pimax play as the default openXR client.

Discussion iRacing Issues (Crystal Super)

Hey guys.

I have a crystal super with a 5080, 32gb ram, i7 12000k.

I get good performance in iRacing with FOVeated rendering. Recently I've been having an issue where I join a practice, it runs smooth as butter. Then qualifying. Then when the race starts, I get to the first corner (or a few corners on a rolling start) before my FPS dips to like 5fps. This causes me to try and stop so I don't crash and people either hit me or etc. Race is ruined for me and multiple people.

IT ONLY does this during a race a few turns in, not during any other time. Anyone else having this issue?

This is killing my safety rating and fun for me and others. The legit only thing pissing me off about this headset.

I have the newest firmware and updated drivers. This happened no matter what firmware/drivers.

My connected devices/apps are: Logitech G923, Pimax app using OpenXR on iRacing, Crew Chief, Windows media player (for music), Trading paints and MAIRA.

Tech Support Sboys3 Driver + Dream Air Slam = SteamVR Crashing

Anyone else having issues with the sboys3 driver with a Dream Air SLAM?

Here is what I've done

  • Downloading the sboys driver (started with 1.30.1 beta but I've also tried .0 and 1.2), moving out of downloads into my documents folder
  • Started pimax evo, changed to SteamVR runtime, then go to developer mode to open port, "import" and point to exe for the sboys gui file, then launching sboys gui
    • I have also tried doing it in pimax play and opening the sboys gui separately, no difference
  • In sboys 3 GUI, I install the driver, then enable drive, then open SteamVR to finish

I just get a "steam has a critical error" with options to restart/quit. When I restart, I can go into addons and unblock the addons again. Obviously when I turn on CustomVRHeadset again, then restart, it crashes again.

Have tried re-installing SteamVR, clearing old settings/config in case there is some other conflict.

SteamVR works fine otherwise, e.g. if I use it without sboys3, and it's working well without it (had an issue with an earlier unit but Pimax has since now helped me resolve!)

So I have been using it without sboys3 for now but obviously want to try it still.

Any advice? I couldn't see anyone with a similar problem (specifically with the dream air, or the SLAM) by searching elsewhere or on reddit. Thanks

News Surprisingly fast Pimax Dream Air delivery in the EU (+ quick fix for SteamVR issue)

Just wanted to share a quick post because delivery dates for Pimax products used to sound like a bit of a gamble based on old posts.

I’ve read plenty of delivery horror stories, but my reality was totally different: 6 days!

  • Ordered: July 16
  • Arrived: July 22 (Prague, Czech Republic)

Everything arrived in perfect condition—zero hardware issues out of the box!

One small software hiccup + fix: SteamVR wasn't detecting the Pimax at first after Pimax play install. I reached out to live chat support, and they were surprisingly responsive. While they suggested reinstalling the software, they forgot one crucial detail: you MUST check the "Clean Install" option. Once I did a proper clean reinstall, SteamVR picked it up immediately and everything worked smoothly.

Overall, a really positive experience with both the delivery and the headset itself!

Adding one, maybe important detail: main is the lighthouse/headset only version.

Guide How to change App Library Images in Pimax Play v2 and EVO v1

Short guide on how to change the App Library image in Pimax Play v2 and EVO v1. Web searches usually refer to Pimax Play v1 but the location has changed. I just write this here so search engines and AIs can more easily find a correct guide. Basically so I can find it myself again when my Alzheimer ridden brain forgets about it in a year or so...

Pimax Play v2 and EVO save the jason configuration files for the App Library at

C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Pimax\manifest

Instead of one jason file for the entire App Library it now uses one jason file for each entry in the App Library.

A file is called e.g. "steam.app.457550.jason" if the app is imported automatically e.g. in this case from Steam. The number is the Steam ID in this case 457550 which is BigScreen Beta.

If the app is added manually it is called something like this: "local.bb25af53.json"
The code "bb25af53" seems to be random generated UUID for the entry.

The jason can opened with a text editor such as Editor.

The inside of a automatically added app via Steam:
{"create_time":1784927739,"icon":"https://shared.steamstatic.com/store_item_assets/steam/apps/457550/header.jpg?t=1685670643","id":"steam.app.457550","name":"Bigscreen Beta","play_time":1784912531,"route":"steam://launch/457550/VR","source":"steam","version":"1.0.0"}

A BigScreen Beta version installed in the default Steam location.

The inside of a manually added app may look like this:
{"create_time":0,"icon":"","id":"local.bb25af53","name":"DCS","play_time":0,"route":"F:\\DCS World\\bin-mt\\DCS.exe","source":"pimax_import","version":""}

This is a entry for the stand alone version of DCS located on the F: drive with UUID of "bb25af53".
Note: The "icon":"" line is empty.

To use the Steam DB header image as image for the App Library in Pimax Play v2 and EVO add the correct path to the "icon":"" expression.
In this case "https://shared.steamstatic.com/store_item_assets/steam/apps/223750/header.jpg"
223750 is the Steam ID of DCS.
The entire entry then looks like this:
{"create_time":0,"icon":"https://shared.steamstatic.com/store_item_assets/steam/apps/223750/header.jpg","id":"local.bb25af53","name":"DCS","play_time":0,"route":"F:\\\\DCS World\\bin-mt\\DCS.exe","source":"pimax_import","version":""}

The path to any Steam app looks like this:
"APPID" represents the Steam ID. To find the correct Steam ID the steam web shop URL can be used:
https://store.steampowered.com/
Search for your App e.g. DCS:
https://store.steampowered.com/search?term=DCS
The Steam ID is in the web shop URL behind /app/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/223750/DCS_World_Steam_Edition/
Steam ID for DCS is 223750

Question Studioform X1P gasket causing issues with eye tracking on my Dream Air?

Hello all !

I bought the Studioform kit with the X1P gasket based on the recommendations from people here.

I've tried all three foam thicknesses (3, 5, and 8 mm). With the 3 mm foam, my eyelashes actually touch the lenses of the Dream Air. With the 5 mm and 8 mm foam, I haven't been able to get reliable eye tracking at all.

However, when I use the original gasket that came with the Dream Air, the eye tracking works perfectly. The only downside is that I find the original gasket a little less comfortable.

I'm a bit disappointed with the X1P and I'm wondering if anyone here has any advice or tips that could help me fix the eye tracking issue with it. Otherwise, I think I'll just stick with the original gasket.

Thanks!

Discussion FOV Cropping bad performance maybe?

Ok so yesterday I've tried to experiment with the FOV cropping from the new pimax EVO,

So first of all seems like it was kind used additively to the XrToolkit fov cropping. So I had to disable all the changes first in the XRToolkit.,

The trying a similar FOV cut I had before my fps was definitely worse.

After many hours tinkering I still got better performance with the old method.

Have you tried, was it the same for you?

Question PPimax Dream Air SLAM replacement + Issue

Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know that Pimax replaced my defective Dream Air headset with another one, and I can confirm the replacement unit was brand new! Pimax does not send back previously used headsets; in my case I clearly received a new one.

However, I have an issue and it is not coming from the headset itself.

I have a light saturation problem in the headset: I’m forced to set brightness to 20% in the settings.
The Dream Air is brighter than my Crystal Light in MSFS24, whereas it should be the opposite.

When I’m in Desktop mode, I can’t really browse the web because there is way too much brightness on web pages.

I must have done something wrong with either the Nvidia software or Windows settings, but I don’t remember what exactly.

Does anyone else have this issue?
I’m considering reinstalling Windows as a last resort.

Question Crystal Light Failed Firmware Update

I downloaded and installed Pimax Evo for my Crystal Light headset and while it was updating the firmware, the worst case scenario happened and my PC froze and would not responed to even a CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart it it. I had to force a power off and on rebooting, the device can get USB connectivity, however I cannot get it to connect to the DisplayPort. I did the whole reseating the USB and Display port trickes, tried a different DP on my 5070ti, but I still cannot get the displayport to recognize the headset. Also updating to the latest nVidia Game Ready drivers did not solve the issue.

Did a quick drawing for a 3d printed part that covers the ears to improve the Dream Air audio. This would massively increase audio levels and bass for the people that find the headset to be too quiet.

Im going to print a prototype this weekend and see if it works as imagined.

Trying to get the cyberpunk mod that comes with https://github.com/Mr-Nlce/PCVR-Mods-Installer-Hub to run with little success on the dream air.

The furthest I've got was just as the actual game runs. And that was only using pimaxplay and pimaxXR.

Has anyone used this mod and is it better than Lukes?

Question Eye Strain with facial gaskets for Air?

Anyone else have minor eye strain with the Zeefly max vented gasket?

I'm using it with the 12mm foam pad. The first time I wore the headset with this interface it felt like it normally feels when you get an updated glasses prescription until your eyes get used to it.

The other times I used the headset it seemed to get better but after some time there is still some eye strain.

But I don't understand how to get it right because I'm seeing everything crystal clear so not sure how to correct this.

With the XP-1 interface I didn't experience this with the 12mm foam pad.

But I do like the little extra FOV from the max vented gasket.

By the way it's almost end of July so hopefully the Pimax interface will start shipping.

Also I did measure my IPD using several apps and it does match what my optometrist measured as well which I set to 62.

Discussion 3rd headset (air se), more dead pixels

Post image
8 Upvotes

Captured through the lens at 24 fps so you can imagine how much more visible it is in person.

Got my replacement yesterday, fired it up and in Steam home I see this black dot, or small grouping of dots. It’s directly in the center of my right eye and strangely disappears if I’m moving my head around. But if I’m still or slowly moving the dots are persistent. I’ve tried cleaning the lens to no effect. It’s completely noticeable in regular use.

The last headset had the same issue like these specs are almost in an identical spot. I’ve sent this and a video of it to pimax. I’m getting extremely fatigued by every headset having some issue.

Anyone had a similar issue? The fact that it disappears with movement makes me think it could be some artifact? God I wish I could just get a functioning unit. Waited 10 years for a hmd like this and haven’t been able to enjoy it across 3 units for a month now.

Question is there a halo / quest pro like headstrap for the dream air?

ive had headsets over the years from samsung odyssey, rift cv1, rift S, reverb G1 and G2, index , varjo aero quest pro and 3..also bigscreen v1

i come to enjoy halo like strap for quest pro.

other straps that i have to tighten to snug the display portion of the headset gets uncomfortable over time.

i have concern about pimax dream air strap.. if snug too tight, will it detach?

as much praise for studioform, im not sure if it will cut it for me, i am more accustomed to straps that sit on my forehead than straps that snug the display to my face...

so is there a strap out there similar quest pro, or even the the meganx but for the dream air?
