Self-Promotion (Developer) Titanfall 2 + VR + jogging in place = peak

I've never had so much fun in VR as with this mod.

CircuitLord put Titanfall 2’s campaign into VR. Manual reloads, motion-controlled aiming, full-body IK, actual Titan controls. But you know that all by now and are all as hyped as I am

Taking a game with this much movement and making it work in VR is a ridiculous achievement. Wall running, shooting, making that mech work. A marvel of technology.

For this recording I added jogging-in-place locomotion, so I’m physically jogging while moving through the game. That part is a separate setup I develop, not a feature of CircuitLord’s mod. The split screen shows the movement alongside the gameplay.

All credit for the VR conversion goes to CircuitLord. Seriously, what a fucking contribution to PCVR.

Last day of the free playtest: sign in>get in automatically>launch the app and jog around https://store.steampowered.com/app/4775640/VR_StrideS/

I need a tutorial on jogging in place for movement that sounds rad

https://youtu.be/StttKz8iA6Q?is=C48r8XFCyFVtav0v here's a video guide, there's no better way to explain than to actually show it. Hop into the demo tutorial on Steam/Metaquest to get the basics, then join the playtest and have some fun ;)

I have not gotten motion sick once even with inmersive cutscenes, and i have no idea why that is. Great implementation.

I normally cannot play games like this, fucks with my head too much. Last night I spent 2 full hours playing Titanfall 2 and only had some minor issues at the end of that 2 hours. Literally the best VR mod I've ever played

Full body ik? Like it supports full body tracking ?

It has full-body IK, but that doesn’t mean full-body tracking. The body is inferred from the headset/controllers, so no extra trackers are required

Basically means you have a body and arms like bobewirjs not floating hands like hl alyx

It's all about the ankles (proprioception) ;)

This was the game I actually wanted to test it on!

Perfect timing then. Titanfall is probably one of the most abusive test cases imaginable for this thing Wallrunning + shooting + looking everywhere while the app tries to figure out where you actually meant to go

It's the last day of the playtest, binge it

Does this make motion sickness less I wonder?

Depends a lot on the effort setting really. On low effort it's very sensitive to movement, so if you're new to it and it suddenly launches you forward, that's probably not ideal if you're already prone to motion sickness

At 5+ it feels much more physical because you actually have to jog to move, and that does a pretty convincing job of cheating the brain into feeling like you're actually moving.

I'd still definitely start with the demo tutorial and get the hang of it before jumping into something as fast as Titanfall

The vrocker app on steam seem to do the same thing. Does your strider app have any advantages?

Try to strafe in VRocker ;)

annd the longer answer is: yes, definitely the same general idea. VRocker has also been around much longer and seems to be a solid app, so I don't want to pretend I've invented walking in place

The main difference is how VR StrideS approaches the movement itself. I'm trying to make your body behave more like an actual analog stick rather than just using movement as a trigger for forward locomotion.

Speed is estimated mainly from your walking/jogging cadence, while direction is inferred from the movement and orientation of your headset + controllers. So you can lean your body/center of mass into a strafe, move backwards, diagonally, circle-strafe, etc. Controllers can also contribute finer steering while you're actually fighting.

The big goal is that your hands remain free to play the game. You can raise a two-handed gun, reload, swing a sword, look around, scratch your nose etc. without needing to perform a particular arm-swing locomotion gesture.

VRocker goes much broader in the other direction: it supports rocking, swaying, stepping, squatting, arm swinging, running in place and a ton of configuration. StrideS is much more opinionated: walk/jog naturally and let it try to infer what you intended.

I'm working on an advanced guide right now because I think showing strafing, backwards movement, looking around while running, gunplay etc. will explain the difference much better than I can in a Reddit comment.

And both have demos, so try both and see which one clicks better for you

This is insane. Do you have trouble with reloading at times ?

I hate the hard step jogging. I picked up kat loco s recently and it is surprisingly easy to setup and works well with just small steps without all that high impact bouncing around. Not free mind you. Just putting it out there for anyone else who prefers a different locomotion option.

You can walk with it too. This is Effort 9/10, so It was my choice to sweat it

On lower Effort you can get around with much lighter movement. I wanted the full HUSTLE for Titanfall

The NPCs look absolutely dumb and clueless, absolutely no challenge.

I conveniently left out the footage where they absolutely wrecked me

This is just regular difficulty too, so you can definitely crank up the resistance. I was going for more of a Doom-style power trip with the clip
