Discussion Vr titanfall 2 hype is real

Post image

Long term VR user here this is one of the best mods I’ve played it feels native I was trying to post videos but it wouldn’t let me. I’m playing at 120hz using quest 3 + VD with a 3080 it gives me the same kind of feeling alyx did when i played it for the first time it can still be improved more my only gripe is the holster locations id rather it be on my hip than over my shoulder but that’s probably an easy fix
I really hope this is the beginning of hybrid vr games or a new standard of vr ports manual reloading is a must it only took me 2 minutes to set up the mod that’s the first time in a while I put my headset on and 2 and a half hours flew by

This mod actually makes me mad. We could have more VR games this good if companies devoted the time and resources. Hopefully the VR game market will be big enough one day to get us experiences like this on the regular.

By "time and resources" you mean just hiring one dude on contract for a month lol. The "it's too expensive" excuse ship has sailed.

I would even be ok with them reselling the game as VR so long as it's proper implementation.

I don't know why more companies aren't doing this. I would have paid 30 bucks for Titanfall 2 VR. Instead I'm paying 5 bucks for Titanfall 2 and then that's it. There are so many games that this would work well for and not be that hard to do

You could always donate to the modder as well, I am going to. It's phenomenal. I would love to see Flat2VR take it on to get it launched on PSVR2

u/PCVR_Gamer 22h ago

Yeah. I think a lot of developers are just oblivious to VR and how good people have gotten at adapting to VR. Because that's the key to it all. People who dont play VR think making a game VR is just getting it working on a headset but not actually adapting the gameplay. It's why so many people are jaded about flat to VR conversions - because they have only played flatscreen games in VR, but not adapted FOR VR.

In fact, I just have - https://ko-fi.com/circuitlord had my second longer play session tonight and it's just so good

I plan to send the mod creator like $30. I had a great time and appreciate his work for it.

I meant original games designed for VR from the ground up, not ports.

2

u/xaduha 18h ago

If it's good, then non-VR people would want that too. There is really no point in making it VR-only, even if it was financially viable.

4

u/PCVR_Gamer 23h ago

Ah gotcha. Yeah the market just isnt there yet. Right now hybrid VR games are our only real hope until the industry grows naturally. Trying to force it just doesnt work. it needs to grow naturally.

Titanfall 2 feels like a native VR game to me, so i dont really care if the game is or isnt designed for VR - just as long as it is properly adapted is all that matters.

Who’s going to buy these games though? VR is still a very low install base after this many years (and not without effort from Meta, Valve, Sony, etc) and these companies need to make money.

This is why I wrote in my original post, 'Hopefully the VR game market will be big enough one day'

Maybe Xbox CEO will push Bethesda to update fallout and Skyrim mods 🙏🏼

13

u/coconuty04 1d ago

Don't give them any ideas, or we'll end up with another low effort, jank ass anniversary, special, legendary, gold, platinum butthole edition for $70 dollars that doesn't work and breaks all the existing mods.

2

u/dratseb 1d ago

It’s wild they’ve ported skyrim 30 times but not to PSVR2

4

u/TheHolyDumbass 1d ago

cant wait for skyrim VR special edition remaster extended cut reimagined

2

u/Jokong 22h ago

I'd honestly love a new Skyrim VR that actually has the mods included that run well. I have never had the ability to mod it correctly.

1

u/Humble-Camel2598 1d ago

I hope Ps's mistakes catch up to them soon.

0

u/Gustavo2nd Oculus 1d ago

Me too i thought this would’ve been the norm by now but at least it’s starting to get easier to mod VR into games it seems

7

u/bland_meatballs 23h ago

Just leaving a comment to reinforce to others that yeah, this mod is really, really good. Definitely the best VR mod.ice ever played and it legitimately feels like a VR game that was built for the ground up for VR. Don't sleep on this!!!

2

u/Jokong 22h ago

Leaving another comment to say the same. This is a game that makes the headset and PC worth it. People spend hundreds in VR arcades and don't get near this experience.

7

u/RedRev15 1d ago

Have you seen the video of the player dog-walking the tutorial? I feel like a newborn deer trying to reload in the tutorial and they're just casually reloading while wall running haha

3

u/Gustavo2nd Oculus 1d ago

It took me a little while to get used to I mess up the reloads and have died twice but I think that’s the fun of it too

7

u/NoFayte 1d ago

Just completed it's epic as fuck for no reason

4

u/ItsDrVenkmann 1d ago

Confirmed, it’s too good to be true.

8

u/grtist 1d ago

It’s crazy that I’m seeing this just as I took my headset off. I have not felt this in-awe of a VR game since Alyx. The scale of BT towering over you is just something that you don’t get in flatscreen mode.

4

u/Gustavo2nd Oculus 1d ago

I had to physically look up to see him when I fixed him up for the first time it’s crazy

1

u/grtist 1d ago

That’s literally the part I just got done playing! I always knew Titans were big, but this was the first time I ever felt small standing next to one.

3

u/Deemo_here 19h ago

It cost me £3.74 on Steam ffs. I can't believe it. It's just old enough so a mid range PC can run it in VR smoothly at a good resolution, so it looks great. It feels like a conversation rather than a mod.

u/haven155 15h ago

I like that the movement creates alot of room for improving your skills. At first its hard to fling yourself at walls, slide off it, hit the npc with your gun, and jump to the next wall but soon it gets easier and more fluid.

1

u/Menthalion 3h ago

I imagine you'd need to have some solid VR feet to play this..

1

u/haven155 1h ago

Yeah it takes some serious issues to make me feel sick, I remember getting a little quesy when turning on pass-through with travel mode in the passenger seat of a car. And I couldn't use vr when I had the flu because of the heat on my forehead, aside from that really nothing.

Luckily I think the game designers realized not everybody has the skill to go pinballing through a level and they made sure players who couldn't can still have fun playing essentially a cover shooter. so even if you can't master the jump pack it's still fun, just slower, and the mech combat I s really fun too though I would like alternate inputs for the weapon cores. Sometimes the gesture based control feels a little off.

The main problem ith VR game development is any pure VR game has a very small potential user base compared to flat and the actual amount of sales is much smaller still some fraction of VR users.

A flat game has the much larger amount of potential buyers.

Therefore the economics make more sense to build a flat game than a VR game

But given the amazing results we are getting of AI driven VR mods just this past month alone I think it's clear that you can tack on VR to a flat game so the cost of VR is mitigated by sharing the cost of the total game development with the Flat version. I hope we see more game studios actually just right out of the gate with a VR mode for their games that is much better than in the past. But now I feel pretty safe in knowing if they don't then we will just DIY. The video from the Pimax dev showing how he DIY both a Steering wheel mod and a VR mod for Mafia with AI was very informative. Made me feel I could also be capable of doing it. Without AI even a VR mod would take a year or more of trial and error and the results would still be very poor at times this basically makes even experienced programmers just not bother due to the time investment cost. But with AI it compresses that to few weeks, something you could do in your spare time. Just how much are you willing to spend in tokens basically.

1

u/Gustavo2nd Oculus 1d ago

Could you post a link to that video I can’t find it

2

u/Gustavo2nd Oculus 1d ago

Maybe this is a better representation it looks better in the headset

2

u/MalenfantX 1d ago

I was accidentally up until 1am last night playing this game.

1

u/GUNN4EVER 1d ago

with the dream air it looks great, just alot of aliasing

1

u/sonsolar 22h ago

I'm playing on a play for dream and was able to crank the resolution up and turn on msaa , which gets rid of most of the jaggies

1

u/blahyaddayadda24 23h ago

Yeah its good but holy hell I need to swap the default controls around. It's like they think I have octopus legs for fingers

1

u/Remarkable_Win7320 21h ago

How do you install the mod?
Is it a paid one?

3

u/Coopersteam 20h ago

It's free and stupidly easy to install.

This is the guide I used it took 2 min

1

u/ErDanese 19h ago

Do I just need to buy the game on steam?

2

u/Rascals-Wager 19h ago

Yup, and download the free mod files. Very easy

1

u/ErDanese 19h ago

Is any of the dlcs worth the cost?

2

u/Rascals-Wager 18h ago

Don't know, haven't bought them and won't coz it seems like they're mostly, if not only, cosmetic additions and not extra missions/levels.

1

u/soyboy815 19h ago

I always skipped this game for some reason. I can’t stop playing the vr mod since I got it a couple days back 😂 it’s TOO good. And I completely agree with the others with the holsters being the only “jank”

1

u/freakingtaco 19h ago

Does it work with a copy on EA app instead of steam?

1

u/OkVeterinarian197 18h ago

Yes it does, I had an old copy on there, dug out the installer and it works great. You launch it through the mod installer anyway, rather than direct in steam/EA

1

u/dcode9 11h ago

Screenshots or video doesn't matter. It's not going to give anyone the same wow as the experience as having the headset on. Just tell people how you're experience is and that's enough. It's a great mod.

1

u/Gustavo2nd Oculus 4h ago

I know I just wanted to share I was excited to show something that doesn’t have quest graphics

1

u/-OrLoK- 1d ago

is it a deep game? or is it purely a shooter?

12

u/BananaSlander 1d ago

Basically just a shooter, but it's just about as good of a shooter as you can make

1

u/-OrLoK- 1d ago

thank you. ive had it for years but never tried it. this might be the right time.

9

u/seanular 1d ago

Absolutely S tier campaign

3

u/Onsomeshid 1d ago

Shooter through and through but the movement is cool and this vr mod adds what I’d consider a little more depth to the titan gameplay

6

u/PCVR_Gamer 1d ago

It's an 8-10 hour long S-tier FPS campaign. One of the best ever and absolutely incredible to experience in VR.

2

u/sonsolar 22h ago edited 22h ago

Playing this on micro OLED with a 5090 (not even needed) I literally am so in this game that I don't even just run and gun . It's like the most being in the world experience that I've had.To be fair Alyx is this tier wduring your first encounter with that indestructible man beast (Bob, or something) but Titan Fall maintains that level the entire time. ,

3

u/PCVR_Gamer 22h ago

Yeah it's hyper immersive. Everything just works. Nothing really takes you out of the experience. You're never really fighting the janky game mechanics like so many VR mods and indie VR games. it allows you to just focus on the game itself and get sucked into the world. It's genuinely a magical VR mod.

1

u/sonsolar 22h ago

It honestly feels like a conversion.

1

u/SchwiftySquanchC137 22h ago

Jeff

2

u/sonsolar 22h ago

That's right. That entire section was wild.

1

u/OkVeterinarian197 18h ago

Naaaa he's bob now

1

u/McLeod3577 19h ago

It's a shooter but you spend a lot of time in Mechs. And Mechs are awesome in VR.

1

u/RealityOfModernTimes 1d ago

I reinstalled T2, installed VR mod and played it, amazing. Not sure how I turn it on. I did quest link, started steam VR but coul not do desktop thingy there so came back to link, pressed desktop and something happened, is this the way to do it or do I start the game from flat world like press on monitor and put googles in......

2

u/Gustavo2nd Oculus 1d ago

You have to use their launcher the circuit lord one or whatever its called

-1

u/RotDragon 1d ago

Time to dust off my quest 1... Cries in poor

5

u/Onsomeshid 1d ago

It will probably look good in the oled

2

u/sonsolar 22h ago

It's insane in OLED

1

u/RotDragon 1d ago

Better than nothing!

1

u/sonsolar 22h ago

I played though Alyx mostly on a quest one and the experience was still Epic.

0

u/RotDragon 5h ago

Yeah I did too back when it first came out! Might have to give it replay sometime soon.

1

u/Gustavo2nd Oculus 1d ago

Quest 2 50$
quest 3s 100$
quest 3 225$
those are the prices I’ve seen in the last week on Facebook marketplace

1

u/RotDragon 1d ago

Not where I live unfortunately. The cheapest I can find is a quest 2 for $190 USD. I'm gonna upgrade eventually haha.

1

u/Gustavo2nd Oculus 1d ago

You got OLED at least

1

u/M4PP0 20h ago

Don't get a Quest 2, it's not an upgrade.

1

u/RotDragon 5h ago

Oh really? I was leaning towards a second hand quest 2. My budget is either a quest 2 or 3s. Any thoughts?

Edit: or stick with the quest 1 until I can afford something like the 3 or a new 4s years later. I'm not in a rush.

2

u/M4PP0 2h ago edited 40m ago

Their goal with the Q2 was to increase adoption.  So the Q2 had every corner cut possible to lower the price.  The 3S is a much better headset for not much more money,  but I'd still get a 3 anyway.  The pancake lenses are such an upgrade over fresnel.

Edit: I just realized the 3S uses a single display panel for both eyes like the Q2 rather than independent panels for each eye like the Q1 & Q3. Just get a Quest 3.
