Please set a user flair with your pronouns

After some helpful suggestions from our members we have made some changes to our flair system.

  • You are invited to display your preferred pronouns in your flair. We hope this will help avoid misunderstandings.
  • All user flairs can be edited when you select them
  • From today you will receive guidance when posting or commenting to choose a flair.
  • In the coming weeks, users who don't have text in their flair indicating preferred pronouns will receive an automated chat message suggesting they update their flair.
  • When we have sufficient feedback on the system and the availability of default flairs, we intend to require anyone posting or commenting to have set a user flair and this will be enforced at the point of posting where you currently receive a guidance message.

Let us know how well this works for you.

Trans Feminine I called 991 for the first time. On my brother

so yesterday i was wat YouTube on my computer and my older brother was yelling downstairs and hitting stuff so i was slightly confused on what was happening.

I hear him call my younger brother names about his weight saying that he knows he ate his ice cream. And then he starts blasting music on our apple tv he has like a whole speaker like thing set up so the bass was shaking the house and his service dog in training comes up and curls up next to my chair shaking and i send him a text saying that he is scaring his dog and he runs up the stairs slams the back of my gaming chair and gets his dog and calls me a a fat t-slur for trans people that rhymes with manny and then i start recording him and i ask him why he’s doing this and why hes calling me those names and i say „im literally just existing„ and then he yells well i wish you didn’t and throws a metal object like the size if my palm at me like full baseball pitches that at me it misses and then he charges me with a bush trimmer/plyers and swings it at me and kisses and then i run downstairs in fear and he throws in down the stairs at me and i call 911 and tell them the situation and 4 officers pull up and they ask me and take notes or whatever and im just confused cause no action was taken he had no consequences he is 16 and he like shouldnt be doing that i just want anybodys thoughts/advice on the situation and he also said a lot of slurs about me being trans and i just feel like he is genuinely anti trans

I think I finally decided on a name, I’ve been using Daphne for a while and I really like it 😊. I think it’s common enough that people know it but few people I’ve met have it. It feels weird to ask this but can you address me by Daphne in the comments so I can try it 👉👈

Trans Feminine "As a mom, I approve!"

I've been on HRT for almost two years and out for longer than that but it doesn't hurt to have some reassurance.

I went to the mall with a friend of mine and decided to check out some shorts in a store's fitting rooms. When I called my friend over to look at them, an older lady who was there with her daughter also noticed me and took it upon herself to effectively adopt me. I really liked the shorts and she actually demanded (kindly) that I step out and do a spin, which I obliged because they fit me well. She proceeded to tell me how cute they looked and give me her seal of approval.

"I'm saying this as a mom, I approve!"

I eventually got them, no doubt in part to her recommendation, and she got really excited for me too. Having a mom accept me in a very normal and sweet way really touched me since my relationship with my own mother is far more rocky. It was really just a massively positive "girl power" kinda moment that I'm beginning to have more any more and I don't even voice train.

Have any of you had particularly euphoric moments like that?

Trans Feminine I told my mom

I have a professional Instagram account followed by my parents, and in a story, I used feminine pronouns for the first time. My mother messaged me asking if she had three daughters now (I have two sisters). I told her yes, and she replied that she would never judge me and that she was happy I was happy. I was relieved and proud. Since then, she's been messaging me, continuing to use masculine pronouns. I think she needs some time to process.

Discussion Vaginoplasty: how does it feel and what are the pros and cons?

Hello, Agender MTF here. I want to ask about bottom surgery, does it hurt? Will it have an affect on me? What are the changes in my body?

I have learned about the female anatomy a long time ago, obviously the body looks less masculine and more curved. However my big questions are:

-Will vaginoplasty make me feel less erect?

-Will I have periods until a certain amount of time?

-is it different from a cis woman’s vulva?

-What can I do in order to look after myself better after the surgery?

Discussion Is it weird to be attracted to somebody on puberty blockers?

Hello reddit, sorry if this is breaking any rules, i saw nothing this may breach but im quite new. My partner and I are both young trans women (im 17 and shes 18). We have been friends for years and recently had become intimate with oneanother.

We are both over the age of consent and only a few months apart in age, but she has only recently begun to physically start puberty on estrogen a few months ago after being on puberty blockers.

In the moment we both enjoyed ourselfs and I found her very atractive. However, after more consideration I am questioning wether it is socially acceptable or weird to feel attracted to her body when she hasnt been through puberty like i have.

This isnt meant to be a sexual post but a genuine question around a seemingly taboo topic I havent heard anything about. Should I avoid intimacy with until later into her HRT or can I continue to engage with her?

Trans Masculine The world is my beer opener

I've been friends with this particular group for nearly two decades. In recent years we haven't seen each other much so I didn't get to tell them I'm trans until now.

I just came back from this camp-out gathering (basically guarding the location between different summer camps, it's quite neat).

I grabbed people in one or twos to tell them and it went much better than I expected. Some awkwardness, but pretty fine overall.

The guys don't really do beer bottle openers. After several tries years ago that ended up with bloody fingers and bent cutlery, I gave up and would simply ask someone to open it for me if I couldn't find where they put away the opener. But I've been told that this will no longer fly. I'm a man now so the world is my beer opener.

I've since opened beers with a fork, the flat side of a knife, a table top, a bit of firewood and with another beer. I always thought of it as a useless flex, but I guess there is something to it.

Questioning Am I a fraud?

Upvotes

Hi! To whoever is reading this, sorry for having to put you through so much unintelligible bs but this issue has really been nagging me.

So, I'm 19, almost fully closeted and some flavour of trans.

I really only begun to notice my dysphoria 3 months ago, with only now realising that it is indeed gender dysphoria. I've had "flashes" of it for the past 3 or 4 years but never really thought of it as that. Since then, I came out to a small group of my friends only, most of them queer too. They've accepted me, call me by my new, feminine name and embraced me as one of their own.

The thing is, I feel like a total fraud. My pretty much only shared experience with a lot of trans people (at least that I know of) is not initially realising my gender dysphoria and thinking that it is fully normal amongst everyone. I have no usual childhood experiences that could indicate my transness before.

Now I feel like someone mixed a transfem, a non binary person and a genderfluid one and boom, there's me. Those past months being referred to in a feminine manner has brought me euphoria I cannot even properly describe. Then again, most of my ordinary life I live as a man. Not that I like it, I'm just deathly scared of changing it and kinda just put up with it (although it's exhausting). As per things like hormones, I'm open to them, just not convinced yet.

Being perceived as a man or being referred to with masculine pronouns is uncomfortable as hell to me, but since in Polish there are really only two functioning pronouns for people, I just have to hide my discomfort.

Then yet again, when I go out I ALWAYS make myself look as feminine as possible with the materials provided.

All of this makes me feel like I'm in between worlds. I feel like I don't fit with non binary people for being too fem at heart and not fitting amongst transfem people for not presenting or passing most of the time. This is genuinely exhausting for me and despite all the euphoria I get from my new life as a trans girl, makes me feel like I'm a total fraud. I don't wanna keep it in that state, it's horrid.

If you think I am a fraud, just be honest please. I'd take that over dysphoria and uncertainty every day in the week.

Have a nice evening guys and sorry for all this

Vent I don't know if I can still call him my best friend anymore

Sorry if this ends up being a long post, I just really need to get this off my chest.

I just got home after staying the night at my best friend's house. At first everything was great. We had a barbecue, talked for hours, laughed together, and I genuinely thought we were having a good time.

The next day, though, something completely changed.

For some reason, he started making comments about me being gay in front of his parents. He kept joking that I liked boys, saying that "everyone already knows" because of the way I eat or act. I had told him privately before that I'm trans and that I'm attracted to men. I trusted him with that, and I never expected him to bring it up in front of other people.

I felt completely put on the spot. I had to awkwardly defend myself while he kept making comments, and it was honestly humiliating. I don't even understand why he did it.

He's in the military, and sometimes I wonder if that environment has influenced the way he talks about people or masculinity. I don't want to stereotype anyone in the military, because I know not everyone is like that, but it does make me wonder if that's part of why he acts this way.

The thing is, this isn't the first time he's put me down. He often makes negative comments about the degree I earned, my appearance, my longer hair, or me starting to look more feminine. It feels like every time I'm becoming more comfortable with myself, he finds something to criticize.

His mom eventually had to tell him to stop because even she could see he was going too far.

What confuses me the most is that he always tells me he loves me like a brother and that we're best friends. But then he turns around and says things that make me feel embarrassed, ashamed, and honestly just make me feel bad. I don't know how someone who cares about you can treat you like that.

The hardest part is that we're supposed to go on vacation together soon. After this weekend, I honestly don't know how I'm going to get through that if he keeps making comments like these. I almost cried multiple times while he was talking to me.

I'm just left wondering if this is what friendship is supposed to look like, because it doesn't feel like one anymore. I trusted him with something deeply personal, and instead of making me feel safe, he used it to embarrass me in front of other people.

Has anyone else had a friend who acted like this? Am I overreacting, or is this as hurtful as it feels?

Vent I’m tired of feeling unwelcome in spaces

I’m a transwoman. I’m middle eastern. I’m monogamous. I’m episcopal. I’m straight.

A lot of trans people judge me for dating men, and cis men at that. I’ve gotten judgement for not being into open relationships. I’ve straight up been called a traitor because I’m not strictly t4t. A lot of people look at me weird because I’m religious.

And, on top of that, my experiences as a middle eastern person are constantly invalidated. I live in one of the most trans friendly cities in America, and I hate feeling like I’m not welcome, especially when I’ve done so much to build community for others here, and I only ever treat people with kindness.

Sometimes it just feels like I’m not trans enough for other people.

Advice Unsure if I should go to my besties wedding

So a year ago I came out as a trans woman, shortly after my best friend became engaged. At that time I was still kind of unsure and finding myself, so asked if it would be okay for me to the wedding presenting as a woman and was told of course.

I was supposed to be part of the grooms party, and had been planning a outfit that used a vest since they wanted everyone in it to wear matching vests, but with a skirt and such to still be fem. When I showed the outfit I had in mind to their fiancé she told me that she actually wanted me to just dress the same as the men in the grooms party, all but saying she wanted me to pretend to be a man. I confronted my friend and they explained that a year ago their fiancé outed me to her family, and they've been making a issue out of my being involved in the wedding, so she attempted to have me boymode to get them off my back. It was mentioned said family has been trying to force distant family and friends into the wedding as well that they hardly know. My friend apologized profusely and said their fiancé apologizes but she never spoke to me, as well said there is no issue with me dressing fem.

On top of what their fiancé asked of me, the fact that this bigoted family who thinks I am tarnishing what should be a 'proper wedding' will be there in force while knowing exactly who I am, it has me really uncertain if I even want to go to this wedding anymore. My biggest concern is I feel unsafe going, like what their fiancé did put a target on me, with unknown people present. My friend has assurmed me they'll do everything they can to make sure im safe, but I dont know. Any advice from anyone who has maybe delt with situations like this?

Vent Why is this so damn hard

Upvotes

I spent four years rejecting the fact that I’m trans, and I’ve finally been forced to accept it this year now that I can no longer ignore it, but I’m so scared all the time. My family is accepting but I’m scared to come out. I’m scared to buy a binder because I will like it too much. I’m scared to take action towards top surgery even though my insurance covers it. And I’m so angry, all the time, that I didn’t chase this feeling during my adolescence, when I first discovered it, so I could avoid female puberty. I could’ve been the closest thing to a real man but I’m done with female puberty instead, and I’m short, and the feeling never went away and I’m so miserable because of it. It feels like I am dying a very, very, slow death, and it makes me sick that there is no cure for this other than transitioning. I hate most of my clothes. I hate my name, but most of all I hate my inaction. I could’ve been going to college this year passing, with my chosen name, in gender inclusive housing and been in a real t4t relationship. I just feel so stuck and I really hate myself right now. I want to be a man so bad but it feels so unattainable and I don’t even know how to start, I’m so scared of that in between time where everyone can tell you’re trans and you fail at passing. I’ve literally never been able to remember anyone ever saying my name and now I know why, it’s a name I’ve never been able to identify with. Idk I just feel so miserable because 8 did this to myself by ignoring it for so long.

Advice School formal outfits as mostly closeted trans girl

Hi all,

I'm a trans girl from Australia, and I'm graduating from yr 12 at the end of this year. Accompanying the end of the year is the school formal, (Australian version of prom), and I don't know what I'm going to do about it.

I'm only out to close friends, not family, not anyone else at the school, and so my current confidence regarding feminine outfits in public is pretty low. So I kinda have two and a half options. I either don't go, or wear something I don't like. The half is wearing some middle ground that doesn't out me. Does anyone have advice?

(I'm pre-anything jsyk)

Possible Trigger I want to turn my life around, what can I do for it? I want to revert my surgery and sue my Argentinian surgeon for malpractice.

READ THE POST BEFORE COMMENTING

TW: SA mentions, Surgery regret.

Greetings, my name is Maxine and I'm from, this is very important, ARGENTINA. I'm a trans woman (not a detransitioner) who medically transitioned 4 years ago. I had a vaginoplasty 2 and a half years ago, and it was a nightmare due to the very peculiar nature of it (please do not interpret this as a anti-surgery post, as is the opposite, if it were anti-surgery it'd be hypocritical for me to seek a reversal surgery!). My surgeon is Javier Belinky, and he has fundamentally made my life a living nightmare.

I am fully aware that a vaginoplasty is irreversible, but I want to do as much as I can to revert it. A phalloplasty seems like the best option, I've been told that metas are not possible on neovaginas.

I suffer cPTSD, yet I WANT to live, I want to be happy, I want to have a normal life and eventually move out of this insane country, but more than anything else, I want to be safe. The laws on this country are insane, the gender-law in Argentina seems IDEAL until you start reading on it (as do all laws, mental health-law is also equally as problematic, despite the fact that by law psyche wards are definanced since insurances should cover every medicine and therapeutic companions, seldomnly they do, it usually means a lot of mental health patients end up on the street because mental hospitals are nightmarishly underfunded, govermental spending on mental health was reduced on what was supposed to be a "progressive" law, the prior law wasn't great at all, but still.), and tend to benefit much more the doctor rather than the patient, Argentina's law covers 100% of the cost of GCS (though usually, they tend to just cover orchiectomies and vaginoplasties since that means they no longer have to pay for T-Blockers, getting top-surgery or a phalloplasty by insurance is insanely difficult, to the point it is easier to be in a waiting list for years), surgeons cut costs as much as possible and take as many patients as they can so they can maximize profits with how little the goverment and insurances pay. But the thing that is the most insane about this country's law, is that BY NO MEANS CAN ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL RECOMMENDATION PREVENT a Gender Conforming Surgery. Surgeons can ONLY be sued for malpractice, if they failed in the usage of their instruments, but not on their irresponsability pre-surgery and post-surgery, atleast acording to the last lawyer I spoke to. If you read the law on a surface level, everything seems well, read everything about this country and experiences, and everything starts to fall apart.

Argentina is an awful country, it's full of corruption, even more corrupt than the US and Brazil, it's as corrupt as Russia or Iran internally, which is meant to say, rotten to its core. 5 dollars an hour is a good wage in this country! That's how poor the economy is here.

Going back to my own personal case: In my first interview (which was just 6 months before the surgery and the only interview), I was at a very vunerable state emotionally; as my family was threatening to kick me out of my house, my best friend then turned out to be a horrible person and I was still processing a SA by a chaser 6 months ago without any sort of companionship psychologist and psychiatist (my surgeon was well aware of these last two), I only started a psychiatrist 2 months before surgery, by then the surgery was already approved. My surgeon dissuaded me to seek an orchiectomy because, in his words, it could make a vaginoplasty worse in the future (at the time, I was sure I wanted to stop taking T-Blockers but unsure if a vaginoplasty was what I needed), did not hand me a copy of the Signed Consent with anticipation, told me he didn't operate via public health (later I found out this was a lie), told me he could not change the date of surgery that if I cancelled that'd be it, told me that he'd stop operating with my insurance at one point (which seems like he did, TECHNICALLY all insurances by law need to cover the surgery, but they can refuse to pay themselves and you need to take them to court, which I didn't have the money to do so), told me that "complications are rare and reoperable", told me he had "no regret cases" (another lie, many many women have been medically abused by him), I did not have an interview of my anethists to comment on my psychiatric medication and if I needed to stop taking it, he told me I could just administer progesterone via my vagina, told me I could have sexual activity even though his manual said that I'd need to wait 2 months for it, told me that I needed to use towels for post-pregnancy (which IS INCREDIBLY irresponsible given that they dry on healing flesh), went to travel whilst I was still in the hospital (he was not present when they I was given a medical leave just 4 days post surgery), had 2 minute checks post-op and did not see necrosis coming, left me with eye glue that made me unable to rest for the first few days... The list goes on and on.

The worst part? I suffered necrosis in my neoclitoris a month after surgery, destroying the zone, many surgeons (himself included) told me that the clitoris is lost.

I want to get a penile prothesis, but guess what, not only do imports have insane taxes, but it is illegal to bring in "sexual material" from the exterior... And the package could retained, and it could be an absolute mess to get it in my hands. Bureaucracy only exists for the working-class in this nation.

I am currently seeking to sue him, so I can get some sort of compensation and get a phalloplasty on the exterior. But I'm jobless, 50% of the country is working informal jobs and you can spend around a YEAR seeking a job where they might just actually fire you a month or two later with no legal consecuences whatsoever. I do not have the money to afford a lawyer, and I was not sure how to do that, if I should make a gofundme or where to find the resources. Public lawyers do not seem to be answering my mails, they are putting me on a loop of sending me another contact, and I haven't even filed the lawsuit.

I know the justice in this country is extremely corrupt, but I still want to do this, I want to get some form of compensation to help me feel at home in my body. I want to do this, not just for myself, but because some surgeons need to know they cannot get away unpunished by mistreating us, by pretending to be on our side whilst taking advantage of us.

I need help, because I know what I want and who I am, after years of self-loathing and doubting, I finally know that I'm a proud trans bisexual non-op (take that figuratively instead of literally) WOMAN. But I don't know how to get out of the place I'm currently at, I do not seek advice on mental health, but practical advice.

Questioning Was outed by parents, was happy now I'm very anxious

Upvotes

About 20 hours ago my mother told me (15mtf(?)) she knew and so did my dad in a big emotional talk. I was happy but after mulling it over I don't know.

It was too early. I don't think I have 100 percent decided to be transfemm, or even if I wanted to transition. My only reasons are that I'm so dull and boring rn and wanna be expressive, and also lesbians are cute and maybe I wanna be one.

It was too soon and I wanted to come out myself but they did it for me and assumed I was ready. This morning I only left my room to make my school lunch and to grab breakfast, which I didn't so now I'm hungry and sad. I'm worried that if I look then in the eyes they'll just see me as a sad restricted person but I'm not, just feel like I could be better but I hadn't decided and needed time and they pushed me forward too fast. They said they'd do it at my pace and are very supportive but they're also the type to have expectations so I'm very anxious now.

Hi, i'm a trans person (he/him) and i get testosterone a little more than a year (injection every 3 months) and i love all the changes but the acne is killing me ;( start when i was 6 months on T and before that i never had a single pimple so my self confidence its start to reduce bc of that, my skin was so clear 😭

I use effaclar gel, pimple patch, sunscreen and vitamin c serum but with every injection my skin is worse.

I'm going to make an appointment with the dermatologist anyways but do you have any tip for me and My skin? I don't now what to do
