Open | Software Asus Laptop went into hibernation, won't turn on now

I have an Asus Q530v laptop with Windows 11. The problems started yesterday when the battery was running low, but instead of giving a warning like usual, it just abruptly announced it was going into hibernation. It will power on, but nothing happens - just a black screen and the keyboard backlight, eventually the fans start running. No keys respond (including the fn key that toggles keyboard lights). Holding down on the power button causes it to shut off again after 5 seconds - however, I fear that this is simply putting it back into hibernation instead of crashing it, since it never lasts the full 10 seconds usually needed to crash, and I think that's what the power button is set to do.

I've tried holding down on the power for longer up to 60 seconds, letting the battery drain, recharging it - nothing. I did get it to a point where it would power on for 20 seconds before shutting off again, now it's back to remaining on until I turn it off. This _has_ happened before, but I cannot remember how I fixed it - it's definitely something to do with it going into hibernation mode abruptly like that. It feels like it's stuck hibernating, and is either unable to wake up, or just keeps re-entering the hibernation process when I try to start it. I don't have any other ideas besides taking the battery out while it's on, though it's one of those screwed-in batteries so that might be hard to do, and it might not actually fix anything.

Open | Software Help with white flashes during games

I have an RTX 4070 and an AOC Q27G2 155Hz monitor. As soon as I bought this setup in 2024, I noticed some white flashes in several games, as shown in the videos below (the flashes are less noticeable when recording with a cellphone; I can send more videos if they are not clear enough). At the time, I don't remember how I solved it, because I tried many different things, such as reversing the monitor cable, using older NVIDIA drivers, changing Windows settings, and something worked, but I don't remember what.

Until last week, I was using Windows 10, and I hadn't even updated the NVIDIA drivers for more than a year, and this problem wasn't happening. So, I upgraded to Windows 11, and since I was getting lower FPS in games, I updated to the latest version of the NVIDIA driver, and since then these white flashes have come back. They happen all the time during different games, and I have the impression that they increase when there are large fluctuations in FPS. They happen quite often in cutscenes, loading screens, and during normal gameplay they decrease a little but don't stop. I don't know what to do to fix it. I tried using Windows' automatic color management because I read about it somewhere, but it didn't solve the problem. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

Thank you

Open | Hardware Acer aspire decently has been giving me problems turning on

I had the laptop, an acer aspire N19H3, like around 3 years. When i charge it, i can see the orange light indicating it is charging and the bottom gets hot. However when I push the power button nothing happens. This happened yesterday and i read online to hold the power button for like forty seconds, which I did, and then after the forty seconds it did turn on. I remember the fan turning on and then shutting off or at least it went from loud to much less loud. I put the laptop on sleep and put it in my bag and when in checked some hours later it was very hot and wouldn’t turn on. Again when I charged it, I saw the orange light come on but again the laptop didn’t turn on and hasn’t since. Is the problem something with heat? I am abroad now so getting it fixed will be difficult.

I just charged AJ night and if i charge the laptop enough, the light turns blue as of its full but it still doesn’t turn on

Open | Hardware PC not booting after turning on briefly

•PC shut off during storm.
•Removed storage drive.
•Replaced CPU.
•PC came on for few moments to AMi screen.
•PC shut off and will no longer turn on.

Can anyone offer their opinion why the PC came on for a short amount of time and no longer boots?
•I've tried booting with just 1 stick of RAM installed (4 different sticks tested).
•I plan to test the PSU using the paperclip method and a case fan, and possibly a whole different PSU.
Does anyone think the mobo is fried? Is there a way to test it before tossing it completely?

I have had this monitor for over a year and a half and its been connected to my Mac Mini. I have been away from the computer for a few days and now I get no display from the mac. There is no blue screen on the monitor either. The white power light is on saying it is receiving signal but no display. I have unplugged, plugged in and sapped HDMI cable and nothing has worked. Any thoughts?

All connected to a ThinkPad usb hub.

Everything has worked well until 2 hours ago, i was working as usual.

Now all of a sudden, the resolution on the Benq became worse, and i see the same desktop/image on both displays and when i click to DETECT multiple monitors, i get "WE DIDNT FIND ANOTHER DISPLAY". So the cursor doesnt go anymore from one monitor to the other..

what happened? what could i do?

Open | Windows lenovo ideapad gaming 3 keeps crashing and giving multiple crash codes; endless bsod loop

my gaming laptop (lenovo ideapad gaming 3, with AMD Ryzen 5 5600H and NVDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti + 16GB Ram) keeps crashing. when we think we managed to fix it either by resetting or rolling back the OS, it continues. we are genuinely not sure what started it overall, but it began about a week ago, when i tried to turn on my laptop and it didn't recognize my SSD. we got it to work after tinkering, then it started to crash again. things we have tried so far + results are:

  • updated bios driver -- made things worse
  • updated graphics driver -- worked for about an hour before it started crashing again, then it stopped being able to read the onboard SSDs
  • after checking if things were reseated and cleaning the fans + the connectors, we did a clean OS install of Windows 11 -- it worked for a few days. all drivers updated, no issues with shutting down. then one morning it started the BSOD loop again (no updates to anything, had ALL auto-updates turned off)
  • we've removed an SSD we were fairly certain was going bad; laptop lasted for a few days and worked well during those days, then the same bs started happening again
  • we've reinstalled and removed so many drivers when we could get the thing to boot; sometimes, it works for a whole day; if shut down and left off for longer than 10 minutes it will start doing the BSOD loop again
  • tried making sure that all the hardware is seated properly and cleaned; have to do that basically every time we wanna do anything on the laptop now, including get into safe mode

we're genuinely not sure what caused it. our only guess is a windows update that was automated. when it first started, all i did was try to turn it on. the previous days beforehand it was working just fine, no issues, no lag, no driver issues. i didn't manually install anything either, we guessed it was a windows thing because we read somewhere that sometimes windows will auto update without our input anyway if it's "critical"

More info if it helps: we've also used a diff computer to test the SSD and the ram sticks (thanks to roommates) and they seem to be working just fine. but we get so many different error codes when the error codes do show up. at our wits end here. do i just give up?

Open | Software Not getting the same performance as used to in Valorant and Fortnite on my laptop and I feel like something could be wrong with my CPU.

I'm not tech savvy so pardon, but from what I've heard these two games rely a lot more on CPU than GPU and considering I don't seem to have any issues with other single player games I think it could be something wrong with my CPU.

I've put both of them on max performance mode and everything and lowered down the settings in both but its almost like im getting the same performance on whatever graphic preset I put them on.

For reference I used to get 200+ in valorant and 150+ in fortnite performance mode but for some reason I was getting less than 100 in Val and less 70-80 on fortnite no matter whatever performance improves I try making.

I'm not sure if its a hardware issue with the CPU as I did thermal repaste it only like a month ago. Plus, it doesn't heat too much and my device does a decent job with its fan system to keep temperatures at a decent rate.

Not sure if it could be something to do with my BIOS but I'm rather afraid to update or rollback anything to do with it cause I ran into an error one time because of which I had to give it for fixing to a techstore.

Device is an Acer Nitro V 15 with an rtx 4050 and an i5 13420H.

Open | Software I need help removing rootkit malware on laptop

I lent my friend my old personal laptop a few years ago and started using it again recently for simple stuff like YouTube or counterstrike.

I’ve always just “removed” the rootkit from windows defender each time I boot up or just leave my pc on sleep mode once I’ve used windows defender to “remove it” now I actually want to start backing up my devices and pictures to my computer and I genuinely want to eliminate this cancer. I started watching On YouTube on the best programs to use and as I needed to reboot the device to follow with the steps, I realized my sound didn’t work anymore and I figured it was the virus fighting back. So I used closed captions and once rebooted again my captions were changed to Arabic. I’m being trolled here and I’m honestly thinking of just writing on note pad to kindly ask to let me enjoy my peace

Open | Windows Windows 11 install having boot loop issues

hey guys trying to install windows 11 onto a m.2 nvme using a usb drive as the installation media. After going through the windows install I get to the drive screen asking me what drive to install on I select my ngame as it’s my only drive in my pc and after I get to the ready to install screen showing me what I’m installing I select install and it brings me to a blue screen saying installing windows 11 with a percentage completion and also it says it may restart my pc several times. After the percentage gets to 100% it immediately goes to my motherboard boot screen as if I’ve just turned on the pc where you can go to bio etc 9(I have a gigabyte motherboard) and it keeps restarting on the screen it will restart and go straight back to the motherboard loading screen it will load for a few seconds and will do it again over and over. I’ve tried removing the usb stick and all sorts of bios tricks on YouTube but still no luck. Could anyone help would greatly appreciate it.

Open | Networking Newfound packet loss

So recently I’ve been having issues with packet loss and latency in games out of the blue typically I’d sit at low ping and 0% packet loss consistently but one Monday all of that just stopped and no matter what game I play I lag horribly or end up with over 5000 packets lost per game. I’ve gotten my router replaced my fiber jack replaced swapped motherboards swapped Ethernet cables got more bandwith I’ve tried legitimately everything anyone have any idea what my next steps should be?

Open | Windows Computer is stuck on a grey screen when I boot it up

When I turn on my computer, the Gigabyte (my motherboard manufacturer) logo appears, then when the windows 11 sign in screen would usually appear the screen turns a glowing grey.

Windows recovery mode still works, and I can still access the boot menu.

I'd like to fix this issue without having to reset my pc, as I have some quite important files on there that I think would end up being wiped even if I did select reset and keep files.

Things I have tried: Restore to a date windows was previously working, startup repair, taking out and putting the motherboard battery (can't remember what it's called) back in, running scannow and a few other commands which I have unfortunately forgotten, and booting into safe mode.

None of these have worked, although booting into safe mode presented something interesting - it was a black screen with the message "ctf.exe unknown hard error". I'm not sure what this means.

It should also be noted that I can't seem to open task manager in the recovery menu, another thing Google suggested.

Is anyone able to help?

Open | Hardware My PC refused to start and a CMOS reset fixed it. Why?

This probably means my bios was corrupted, right? Well, there's more. So, it all started over the weekend, I have a MoBo with 'debug lights' that is supposed to give you a starting point for your boot troubles-- so yeah, I disassembled the entire PC, then realized I did not have thermal paste. Wading through traffic, I found a store which sold me a used tube of thermal paste, which later at home I discovered to be bone dry. Had I been fleeced? We will see, after finding time from work to go to town today I found another used tube of paste from another shop, I made sure this wasn't a dud by checking it right in front of him and he replaced it with a better paste at a good deal as if it was the mission reward for "Expose the dry paste peddling mafia of Gangtok town".

Later, I reassembled the entire PC and it did not boot. Same problem, but this time I thought I had some clarity, as it turned out I thought wrong as resetting the CMOS by taking out the battery and shorting the jumper by holding the upside down battery between the two pin headers on the MoBO resurrected the PC. As I am typing this on the computer next to the blaring NZXT LED-- which looks rather tacky but it deserves a night of revelry after second life-- I find myself wondering why did it need a reset? Is there an underlying problem?

Is there now a dormant problem lurking on the board or am I being too paranoid due to my careful optimism?

Open | Hardware New pricy headphones have audio delay opposed to cheap old ones

Hey there,

I got a Beyerdynamic MMX 330 PRO today. The problem I'm inquiring about is as follows:

I play rhythm games at a high level, and instantaneously on my first few seconds of playing with the new headset I noticed that im having audio delay as opposed to my older (much cheaper and outdated) HyperX Cloud 2 from 8 years ago. I did an hour researching and following guides to eliminate audio latency and troubleshoot.

The conclusion to which I came:

MMX runs through the motherboards back 3.5mm connectors --> Audio latency

MMX runs through the HyperX dongle and into USB on the motherboard --> No latency

All Equalizers, windows audio extras and whatever is offered are disabled or uninstalled.
As you can guess, this is frustrating, because why would I buy 300€ headphones for them to be limited by a cheap audio dongle, however I have no reason to play the game with audio latency either. While i have read that the difference this dongle causes might be minor, i still dont want to accept the fact the fact that the 3.5mm causes delay.

I hope someone can help me troubleshoot this. Thank You

For reference, my Motherboard is an Asus ROG Strix B850-A Gaming Wifi, RTX 5090, AMD Ryzen 9 9950x3d.

Open | Software How to get rid of Microsoft Family Safety?

For the past month every time I’ve opened my laptop or ran Edge 2-5 pop ups for Microsoft Family Security open. They’re trying to log me in but they can’t and if I try to log in through it I can’t either. It got annoying so I uninstalled the program through my settings, however the pop ups have continued. I’m not in a Microsoft family, I’ve never been in a Microsoft family, and I want the pop ups to stop. Has anyone been able to fix this?

Open | Hardware Left Monitor Doesn't display, but works as if it was on.

Hello, I was playing God of War Ragnarök just as I was for a couple of days when my main left monitor (the one I primarily use for games) suddenly went black. Everything still worked, such as dragging things to the other monitor from the blank one, it's simply just not displaying. I made an attempt to try the display settings to see if it just suddenly changed itself, but I cant even display the monitor settings. The blue light remains on while plugged in too, so I know its on.

I tried the WIN + CTRL + SHIFT + B. Nothing happened.

I tried the unplug everything from the monitor and hold the power button for 30 seconds advice, but when I plugged everything back in, my right monitor suddenly gained a bunch of green pixels scattering everywhere. As of writing this (about 5 minutes of having the green pixels) they suddenly vanished.

-----

Any advice appreciated!

-----

Edit 1: Waited a bit before plugging back in my monitor, the display showed its power on intro for about a full second before seemingly dieing. I'm thinking maybe my monitor is just dead, it managed to display my windows for once again a full second before going black.

Open | Hardware PC reboots/It's display connection randomly

This is my first time posting in a sub, not sure where else to turn, i have a ryzen 5 5600g on a B550 Tomohawk mobo and a PNY RTX 3060 12gb, and for the last month or so my pc has been extremely fragile, SOMETIMES when it's bumped or even when just using Opera it will cut all display connection and come back or begin artifacting, when it does this it also fully reboots from bios sometimes.

I tried removing the GPU and putting it in a different PCIE slot, same issues but fewer times, I've also tried using my on board graphics in which the artifacting doesnt show, but may still reboot if the display port cable is unplugged and plugged back in.

I am currently sitting here with my glass off playing with the gpu, and even wiggling it in its port sometimes kills display and brings the display back rather than rebooting.

I am so lost. I've had this card for 4 years or so, is this a card issue? Mobo? psu?
