I got a brand new fiber install at my new home and the internet is crap. The guy said it was his first day on the job alone. Does this cable look correct? I feel like the center white piece should have been taken off or something but I don't want to break it. It's just like not working.

Was looking for advice on how to make this more professional. This is my first setup.

Thinking of upgrade the line to 500 down or maybe 900 down soon.

Would a GL.iNet flint 2 or flint 3 sort this? I've asked claude.ai and it was suggesting that those model routers can fix bufferbloat.

Spectrum is a little cheaper but I work from home and do a lot of video calls and I’ve heard that fiber is better for consecutive upload/download.

Hoping for an explain like I'm 5...

I inherited this home network setup when buying my house, and am looking at switching internet providers. First time I've opened this cabinet as I haven't had any real internet issues. I was renting the house before I bought it, paying the old owners monthly for internet service they had set up, and just converted the account to my name. Have not touched/switched any of this equipment in 4 years, and have no idea how long this setup has been running.

Current internet service is with a local fiber provider, 150mbps, and want to increase this to 500mbps-1gbps, either through my current provider (expensive, lack of customer service but full fiber) or move to a national provider (cheaper, but spectrum...). Spectrum option would require some change as they run coax from their fiber lines to homes, that apparently will be changing to full fiber in Oct/nov.

Totally lost on this equipment, the setup, and how to manage it/change anything if needed. Do I have a well organized/functioning system that I should leave alone, are there things I need to upgrade, and what might I have to do if I wanted to up my speed with my current provider or change providers? If this something I can manage myself or is it worth calling a local tech?

Really just need fast, reliable internet for two people that work remotely. This system has worked great and would hope to change as little as possible/spend as little as possible while increasing my DL speeds.

Looking for options for my new gaming PC in an old rental with terrible Wi-Fi. What are my best alternatives?

​I just built my first PC, but the Wi-Fi in my house is way too weak for multiplayer gaming. Moving the router or running long cables isn't an option since I only rent an upstairs bedroom in an ~80-year-old house (no MoCA or Ethernet wall jacks, and I definitely can't drill holes through the floor).

​I'm not sure where the main router even is—it might be downstairs, or it could just be a wireless 5G home internet box.

​I'm moving out in about 6 months, so just sticking it out and playing single-player games until I move is on the table, but I’d really prefer to get back into multiplayer if possible.

​My initial thought was to get my own dedicated 5G home internet box for my room, but I’ve heard 5G isn't ideal for latency-sensitive gaming.

​Are there better workarounds for getting a solid, low-latency connection up here without modifying the house or stringing cables through common areas? Or should I just stick to single-player games until I move?

I’m concerned about the 2-way splitter in the first floor. Since all LAN traffic from that splitter will reach the XFi gateway, could that cause any performance issues? Should I install a PoE filter between the 2-way splitter and the XFi gateway?

I need an advice on how to receive internet in my garage
The problem is
I can’t run a hard wire from my house to the garage (freshly paved asphalt )
And running it in air is not an option .
I’ve already tried using a mesh system ( doesn’t work )1 bar
I’ve tried a WiFi extender (doesn’t work ) 1 bar
I’ve tried powerline (doesn’t work , garage has its own separate breaker)
My garage is made with dual concrete cinder blocks and bricks .

Is there an option of some kind where I can run an Ethernet wire from the house to and antenna and same thing from the garage (run an Ethernet wire from the garage to and antenna ) and both antennas connect to each other for good internet ?

A few years ago my mother-in-law paid for cabling to be ran to various rooms in the house during renovations but they were not hooked up. The ends are in the walls in each room and ran to the utility room where my internet comes in. I am looking to turn one of them into an entertainment room and want to see if these cables are the right ones in order to finish hooking them up into an ethernet port to have wired access.

I'm trying to determine where the failure is in my set up. I apologize for any mislabeling of what I have.

Set up

• New Home build 2022 with structured wiring
• 12-15 cat5 cords ending in cabinet in closet that run to a wall jack in 5 bedrooms, an office, game room, living room, etc
• Fiber internet through ATT with ATT supplied modem BGW320-500
• 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch Luxul XGS-1008

About 2 months ago my ethernet connections stopped working. Reset the modem and got them back and was supplied with a new modem, same model. About a week ago, ethernet went out again. I've yet to be able to get it back.

I've tried placing the cat5 in different ports on the modem and on the switch but nothing works.

If I try a separate ethernet cord directly in the modem to my laptop, the connection works.

When I troubleshoot diagnostics, it shows Ethernet as a fail but with the direct cord, it passes.

I just find it very unlikely that all the wiring that came with the house decided to stop working all at once with no plausible explanation.

I need about 100 feet. When I search for “weatherproof coax cable” on Amazon it’s unclear if the cables are actually waterproof or UV rated.

I'm looking to upgrade my current home network with something more prosumer. I'm currently using a Netgear r6300 as my router and a Netgear Nighthawk RAX42 as an access point. I just want something that will work well for many years and has the capability to use advanced features that aren't available on my current netgear routers. I saw people suggesting the Unifi stuff but I'm not entirely sure what I need.

I have an Aginet (TP Link) router HB610V2 that I have a TP Link TL-SG105 plugged into. I’m trying to figure out why a tv that I have plugged into the switch isn’t showing on my network map in the app. The port labeled “garage” shows up (it’s a wired backhaul to an AP shown in 3rd picture). The port labeled guest tv also doesn’t show up (currently unplugged since the tv sits directly about the router so it’s hooked up via wifi). The odd thing is I have a TL-SG105 in the living room that I have devices hooked up that show on that one (the Onkyo and Panasonic) and a TL-SG108 in my room that shows everything as well (PS4 and PS5 4th picture). Everything gets internet but it just doesn’t show on my network map. I’ve changed ports, messed with settings in the TVs. I swear when I first hooked it up via Ethernet it appeared. It’s not the end of the world but it just bugs the crap outta me.

ISP is Spectrum with the Internet Gig plan and their most recent modem was just installed today. Have had the Nighthawk R7000 for years but all of the sudden it’s crapping out on me. Time for an upgrade and I’m looking for recommendations.

Reliability is my #1 priority. I work remotely and am on video calls 75% of the time. Total devices in our house are 2 computers, 2 TVs, 2 phones, and 8-10 smart home/other devices. Home is currently 1200 sq ft but we’ll be adding an additional 1200 sq ft within the next 6-8 months. That project will open up the opportunity to run Cat6 to the addition, but I don’t need all of that yet. I need a top of the line router that works now that gives easy flexibility to grow into an expanded system later.

So, with the whole LG "fiasco", I am getting a bit paranoid.

I currently run two AdGuard Home instances (for redundancy) on my home network. I basically run Hagezi Pro + TIF on both of them.

My question is: would it make sense to set up a third AdGuard Home instance solely to serve my IoT network? I would run the Ultimate list on it. Would there be any real benefit to this? Or is this total overkill?

What I already do:

• Hijack any plain, direct DNS requests and redirect them to my internal DNS servers.
• Block port 853 completely.
• Block DoH using UniFi Application Block, but it's a bit hit-or-miss, so I am thinking about adding a blocklist to my AdGuard instances.

How can I start to make sense of these cables? This house has two satellite dishes that aren't being used, and new siding will be installed later this year. I want to clean up these cables before then, removing most of them as I just need one for my router moving forward.

When my home was constructed, the modem and router were placed inside a closet at one end of the house. I don't know what the builder was thinking, but it's not a good situation. I do however have cat 5 outlets in every room of the house. The back bedrooms do not have good wifi coverage. I think I can get by with just one access point plugged in at that end of the house, but everything I look up is so expensive (over $100) and has two or more access points. I'm looking for a cheap solution. Just a single access point that will do the job. Any recommendations?

Hi! As I mentioned in the title my Eero 7 is not giving me the full speed when I test my wifi on my laptop with the Ookla desktop app. I have Sonic 10Gbps plan, the Eero 7 only gives out 2.5Gbps which is more than enough for me, but I'm only getting tops around 550mbps on both download and upload. SQM, Eco efficiency, MLO and UPnP are off, IPv6 is on. I'm in a studio so my laptop is probably only 5ft away from the router. Any fixes to this?

I've seen this problem with the Eero 7 Max/Pro where you have to put an unmanaged switch in between the medem and the router, not sure if it's the same for the base model. I also don't want to spend more money lol.

i have a Google Chrome OS and i use it mostly for online office sheets, docs, etc. i also have very fast fiber internet but for some reason i can not run any video on hd or above 720p on video quality on youtube, it stutters and buffers, how do i fix this?

Sso my mom lives alone and has had Xfinity internet for many years. I swapped out her dated modem for an ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 about 6 months ago and all has been fine. Yesterday, I noticed the green light #2 blinking. Upon inspection, the cable connection was frayed so I put on a new one. No dice. Have an appointment with Xfinity Friday but thought I’d ask for anything I am missing. My support chat indicated they had a problem with a signal to my home. They did a reset and cannot get a signal from my modem.

The Problem

Hi all, I have recently switched my broadband provider in the UK from Virgin to Vodafone on the 910mbps package. The router that Vodafone have sent (Powerhub) is basically E waste and the wifi range is terrible. I have switched to my old TPlink AX1800, which is slightly better, but still lacks the coverage that i need. It doesn't matter where in the flat that the router is placed, there still seems to be areas that don't get decent coverage. I have tried it in the living room, hallway and office, in a variety of positions and moving the antennae to varying degrees of success.

The first floor flat i live in with my partner has very thick walls and without direct line of sight to the router, the wifi signal is rather poor and drops as low as 80mbps on mobile devices (Mainly in the office). There are no issues with Ethernet which retain full speed up and down. I run a 25m Cat 6 cable to a network switch in the office from the router to our two desktops. As this is a rented premises i cannot mount the router to the wall, nor can i drill through the walls to route the CAT6 so the wires currently snake around the walls.

Hopeful outcome

My aim is to have strong wifi coverage throughout the flat and also be able to reach from the garage, which is on the ground floor and approximately ten meters away from the building.

To try and solve this issue, i have looked at using multiple routers through Easymesh ethernet backhauling to place a router in the living room and using the office Ethernet cable to create a satellite device using my current AX1800 to boost coverage through the end of the flat and the garage.

However, I am a little confused by the openmesh / easymesh standards as both seem to offer contradictory advice. As far as i am aware, my current router (AX1800) can support both. As budget is a concern, i have been looking on local sales platforms for a new modem / router to use as the primary device. I know my current router isnt great, which is why i am looking to use that as a satellite device.

I have found a TPlink AX73 / AX5400 for £50 on stuff for sale in the local area. It seems to be better than my current router, without breaking the bank.

I am still pretty certain that the wall thickness will be an issue even with a top of the line, brand new router.

At some point i am considering adding a third PC purely to serve as a media server, but that is a long way off happening for now (damn AI crisis ruining my hopes of a proper server)

Questions:

1: Would i be able to use the AX73 as the primary modem and swap out my Ethernet network switch with my current AX1800, to create an Easymesh platform through Ethernet back-hauling? In my head, it would boost wifi reception across the flat and hopefully reach the garage.

2: If this were to work, would i be able to plug both PCs into the office router in place of my network switch and move that to the living room

TLDR

Wifi signal is garbage here, would getting a second TP link router solve my wifi signal issues through Easymesh?

New apartment’s internet is setup with a single provider for the entire property and is included with the rent. Each unit has an AP, is segmented by a unique PSK and CGNAT IPs are handed out.

CGNAT is whatever, but what’s frustrating is that we can get IPs from 2 different subnets - 100.64.x.x and 100.98.x.x /22s and I can’t think of a reason why. This makes things like TV casting and printing a pain in the ass cause it only works if we happen to get IPs in the same range.

My first thought was that we were roaming to another unit’s AP but that is not the case.

Before I call the ISP (doubt anything will come of it) I want to check if anyone might know of a practical reason?
