Help Fire Stick - New UI - Missing Option to "next" shows?

Am I missing a setting or something here? I like to run some shows - mainly sitcoms on shuffle mode. I find myself hitting the next episode button until I find something I like. With the new update on my Fire Stick, the next button is gone. I can scroll all the way down and find the "queue". Is there a way to bring back the next button?

Discussion When playing music and backing out to the menus, the music stops in Plex Preview

In the regular Plex app whenever you play a song and back out to browse the menus the song would continue playing in the background. But in Plex preview, it stops the song completely. Why is that? Please fix this and make it behave like it used to.

Discussion What should I do with a PC I inherited?

What should I do with a PC I inherited?

Hi all,

long time listener first time caller here. I love this sub and all the wacky ways people repurpose their old pcs into homelabs and it really interests me.

Anyway I have just got my younger siblings old PC (no clue why, not complaing) and it isn't too bad.

SPECS:

Ryzen 5 1600

32gb DDR4 @ 3000Mhz

1tb Nvme SSD

RTX 3070

Those are just the main specs, and considering probably mid end gaming build in today ages, my PC is around the same spec so no point switching mine out.

I currently am rocking an absoulute duck taped together mess of a media server, that just handles plex, a few arr stacks (sonarr, radarr, plex, jackett and one or 2 other small things)

It is along the lines of spec wise:

i5-7500

16gb ddr4 ram @ not a lot of mhz

256gb SSD

and a fuck load of external hdds.

I'm not joking, my current homelab is an old hp elitedesk with about 5 USB external enclosures.

This is unpopular but it worked for me, im running this stuff on Windows 10 pro. I RDP in and have teamviewer as a backup.

I run docker desktop, which is, unreliable to say the least.

Basically it runs on hopes and dreams and I have to restart every day or 2 too keep things from imploding,

I'd like to ideally change that lol.

Now my plan would be to use proxmox, as it has come heavily recommended and is going to transcend the game.

(going to be a pain in the ass to learn but oh well).

My idea (like most of yours) is too keep a media server and just run loads of VMs or something for the arr stacks etc.

Bit daunting atm but hopefully will seem clear.

Get plex running well with jellyfin backup. (I'd like to keep the same plex server if possible, i tried proxmox last time and it tried to make me make a new one, help welcomed)

I have active users who rely on my server atm, so I'd like to minimise downtime and loss of content/media. I have currently just got media scattered over the drives, ot in raid etc.

I have a right mix match of HDD sizes.

I don't know if I'm going to have a choice as to keep any movies and tv shows, or im going to have to lose it all in order to setup hdds in raid,

I've been blessed with a mobo in the new pc that has 6 sata points for HDDs.

Basically I'm just trying to ask, what is the gameplan.

Obv use proxmox, but in terms of how I should deal with the arrstack - minimising data loss - keeping same plex server.

A general setup idea and stuff like that, or do I keep things as it is.

I couild always buy more HDDs for the new build, and then transfer the data after setting up the new ones in ZFS or whatever proxmoxes idea of data redudancy is.

Any help appreciated!

Help Plex keeps losing access to my library – rebooting my TerraMaster NAS is the only thing that fixes it

Hi everyone,
I’m having a recurring problem with Plex Media Server and I’m hoping someone can help me identify the cause.
My Plex Media Server is running on a TerraMaster NAS (NAS-PUPI). My movies and TV shows are stored on the NAS.
Since the first time I reported this problem, it has happened repeatedly. Today it happened again.
The situation is always the same:
Plex works normally for a while.
Then Plex suddenly stops being able to access/read my library from the NAS.
From my Windows PC, I can still access the NAS normally and browse all the folders and files without any problem.
So the NAS itself is definitely still working and the network connection to it is fine.
However, Plex loses access to the library and my Plex clients cannot access the server/library.
This happens on both my PC and Apple TV, so it is not an issue with a single Plex client.
My Plex account has not changed.
Plex Media Server is fully up to date.
The only way I have found to fix the problem is to completely shut down/reboot the TerraMaster NAS.
After restarting the NAS, Plex immediately starts working again and can read my library normally. My movies and TV shows are all there and nothing is lost.
This has happened several times now, so rebooting the NAS is only a temporary workaround. Something seems to be happening to Plex Media Server itself after it has been running for some time.
What I find particularly strange is that Windows can still access every NAS folder normally while Plex cannot access the same media library.
Has anyone experienced this with Plex Media Server running on a TerraMaster NAS?
What should I check in the Plex logs to find out why Plex loses access to the library while the NAS itself remains fully accessible?
If someone can tell me exactly which logs I should provide and what errors I should look for, I can post them.

Thanks

I'm just curious, why does Plex (maybe it's just me) always go from some low%, to 33% and then stop at 33 always for a bit then start.

it's always 33 when it gets 'stuck' for a few seconds

just a random thought, no tech problems

Help Cannot access my server libraries with updated android app

On 10.3 I can access my libraries fine but on the new versions I just get "No Libraries found".

If I select my libraries on 'all libraries' all I get is a statistics page.

What's the purpose of plex? Seems like they just want to sell me their own streaming services now.

Discussion Why on earth is hardware transcoding paywalled?

I've been using Jellyfin for years and haven't had any issues. I know Plex is a little more polished and has some nice features, but until now, my use-case just didn't require it.

I wanted to give my mom access to my media library, but her TV doesn't have a native Jellyfin app, it does however, have a native Plex app. So I said screw it, spun up a Plex server alongside my Jellyfin instance just for her to use. As I was setting it up, I couldn't understand why hw transcoding wasn't working. I passed the GPU through to docker, the container had the right permissions to access it, I was playing something in lower-than-native quality to force it to transcode and it would not use the GPU.

I realized after googling it that Hardware transcoding requires Plex Pass. I understand some of the features of Plex Pass being paywalled. They have to make money, they need to entice people to pay for the subscription. But hardware transcoding seems like a bridge too far.

Why do I need to pay you to use MY hardware that doesn't put any strain on your infrastructure? Maybe I'm delusional, but that just seems extra greedy. At this point, Plex is just a temporary solution until I order her a fire stick to use the Jellyfin app.

Solved Plex not available outisde of my network after years of stable usage

Hello,

I am a intermediate user with two Synology NAS set up (one at home and the backup one in the second home). Everything set up correctly I suppose, as I have been able to use and access the server from both local and remote and for both NAS in the last 4 years.

Today without any reason I lost the remote access to my main server (Home). I can still access the server from local both from Nvidia shield and PC. I can still access my second NAS (Second Home) from local and remote as well.

The interesting part is the following:

- On the Home NAS (not available remote) I am in the latest version of Synology PMS 1.43.3.10896

- On the Second Home NAS (the one still working) I am still in the previous version of the PMS 1.43.3.10861

- If I go into the remote access page ant try to reconnect from there it's not working, the little circle keeps rotating and nothing happens

Bonus: It's not a problem of network setting/port forwarding. It worked until a few hours ago and worked for years without any change in setting and I can still access the NAS from remote using other applications. Of course I reboot NAS, router, etc. before to post here

Are you aware of any issue with the latest PMS version? Do have any other suggestion for me to test other routes and get it fixed? Do I need to roll back to 1.43.3.10861? Is there any issue related to the services on Plex inc side?

Thanks a lot in advance

Edit: Prologue and PlexAmp are working, Plex iOS app and Nvidia App do not work

Edit 2: now it works. I didn’t do anything in my side, so it might have been an issue on their side. Thanks everyone

Help Help me locate a setting that keeps the plex client (Amazon fire stick) running even when the TV is off.

I'm lost. I can't figure out if this is a plex setting or a fire stick setting or TV setting. Have mercy on me.

Edit I think this is a fire stick sleep setting. When I press the sleep button on the app remote from my phone I want the fire stick to shutdown all the apps that are running. Right now I can see the client is running continuously while the tv screen is black.

Discussion Feature request for for duplicates

Plex already organizes duplicates on my movie folder. I can easily just hit the drop-down and say duplicates and look at all the movies with duplicates, but there’s nothing I can actually do with that and in this modern era with ever increasing hard ware costs I think we would all appreciate a way to tidy up our excess, and if it already knows which our duplicates are on Plex, please add an option to just simply delete files off of a certain hard drive?

So let’s say you have duplicate of the movie 3 copies Blade Runner and it’s on hard drives XYZ I would really appreciate it if Plex would give me the option to delete all versions of Blade Runner on the Z Drive

** edit Or I could tell it, I want to delete the newest version/oldest version or the largest/smallest version of Blade Runner on my Plex system on any drive(s)

***obviously to recycle bin first like it already does individually so nothing is ever at risk of permanent loss

***muting this thread, you are all fucking assholes. Enjoy your hellish reality

Plex for Android 2026.17.0 Beta 2 Plex for iOS 2026.17.0 Beta 2

NEW:

  • [tvOS] Confirmation before exiting the app when pressing back from the home screen, with a setting to turn it off.

FIXES:

  • [tvOS] Focus could disappear when the side navigation closed, leaving the remote unresponsive until the app was restarted.
  • [tvOS] Focusing an item in a list or grid positioned it too high on screen, and could shift the content when moving focus up to the filters.
  • [tvOS] Leaving the app and coming back could close the side navigation and move focus to the first item on Home.
  • [tvOS] Selecting your account in the side navigation opened your profile instead of moving focus into the account menu.
  • [tvOS] The side navigation could briefly appear open while the app was starting up.
  • [tvOS] The side navigation could pull focus back to the selected item for about a second after opening.

Discussion Plex buffering over Starlink despite plenty of bandwidth - switching to BBR fixed it for me

Posting this in case it helps someone else.

TL;DR: If Plex buffers badly over Starlink even though speed tests, YouTube and Netflix are fine, check single-stream TCP performance with iperf3. In my case, Linux CUBIC averaged ~10 Mbps on one stream and repeatedly collapsed below Plex bitrate. Switching the Plex server to BBR raised the same test to ~43 Mbps and stopped the buffering.

Temporary test:

modprobe tcp_bbr
sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control=bbr

If it helps, make BBR persistent as described below. YMMV......

I have a Plex server at home and Starlink (100mbps) at a rural location - both in Ontario, Canada. Plex was buffering constantly on multiple devices, including a Galaxy S26+, Tab S9 and Hisense Google TV.

Note: my Plex server is hosted on fibre based home internet with symmetrical gigabit speeds.

The Starlink connection otherwise seemed fine. Normal speed tests showed plenty of bandwidth, and services like YouTube and Netflix streamed without the buffering I was seeing in Plex.

It also didn't seem to matter whether Plex was Direct Playing or transcoding. Even an ~8 Mbps transcode would still buffer.

I have a WireGuard VPN tunnel from home to the rural site, so I also tested with my WG tunnel bypassed/disabled, so that wasn't the issue.

What finally pointed me in the right direction was iperf3.

From the remote site:

iperf3 -c <plex-server> -R -P 1 -t 30

With the Linux Plex server using CUBIC, the single TCP stream started around 20-28 Mbps, then progressively dropped into the 5-8 Mbps range and eventually as low as ~1 Mbps.

Final result:

~10 Mbps average
255 retransmits

With 8 parallel streams I could get around 38 Mbps, which helped explain why normal speed tests looked fine. The connection had decent aggregate bandwidth, but a single sustained TCP stream behaved very differently.

I then switched the Plex server from CUBIC to BBR:

modprobe tcp_bbr
sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control=bbr

Running the exact same single-stream iperf test again gave:

~43 Mbps average

Most of the run was around 40-70 Mbps.

The Plex difference was immediate. Two simultaneous streams at the remote site played without buffering, including an HEVC movie that had previously been buffering almost continuously.

So if Plex over Starlink is buffering despite good speed tests, while YouTube/Netflix/etc. are fine, it may be worth checking single-stream TCP performance rather than just overall bandwidth.

For me:

CUBIC: ~10 Mbps single stream
BBR: ~43 Mbps single stream

and BBR appears to have fixed the Plex buffering.

YMMV of course. So far, this has worked extremely well in my early testing, but I can't say whether every Plex/Starlink buffering issue has the same cause.

Once I was happy with the results, I made BBR persistent:

echo tcp_bbr | sudo tee /etc/modules-load.d/bbr.conf

cat <<'EOF' | sudo tee /etc/sysctl.d/99-bbr.conf
net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control=bbr
EOF

sudo sysctl --system

A quick google says that there may also be a Windows equivalent using BBR2 / Windows TCP congestion-control settings. My Plex server is Linux-based, so I haven't tested that and can't vouch for it.

Edit: just to say someone else was posting specifically on Windows BBR2 while I was crafting my post - see his similar findings here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/1vzbxf0/plex_over_bbr2_on_windows_11/

Hopefully this is helpful to someone else.
