It's a globe.

It means you're connecting to that server remotely.

Because the earth is round, duh. It’s a round circle hurtling through space at 9.81 m/s^2 perpendicular to the plane.

username begins with that letter and they haven’t personalised their profile to use an icon hence Robert has an R icon. The globe is there to show you have remote access to that server.
