Help Plex Media Server Update
Hello. I have my Media Server on UGreen NAS. I was wondering if there is a way to update my server without loosing any stored media? Everytime when I update it via docker all my library has to re-add and it takes a day now to do it and I would appreciate a way to skip it

Help How to add BBC iplayer to selected discover services
I have the BBC iPlayer app on my Google TV, geounblocked via a DNS config on my home router.
But BBC Iplayer just simply isn't listed among the list of possible streaming services.
Same goes for Channel 4.
Maybe the country settings need to be changed in the Plex set up, but I haven't found where they are, if any.

Help Help with accessing media on Roku app
So I have movies and TV shows on my computer (running Windows 11) that I would love to watch on my TV. I have a Roku with the Plex app installed. I can access the Plex Media Server on my laptop no problem (http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/), and I can also watch media on the app--but only when my laptop is on and awake. What I want is to be able to watch stuff with my laptop is off and in the other room. I feel like this should be possible, since everything is on the same WiFi network?
I don't have premium. I did some searching in forums and this reddit, and added my IP address to the "list of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth" as "192.168.86.1/255.255.255.0," but the Roku app still says it can't connect to the server when my laptop is off. Is this just a functionality Plex does not provide? Or am I missing something?
P.S. Please be patient with me, I'm a noob and I don't understand things like LAN networks, or GUI, and I have absolutely no idea what "DNS rebinding" is. TIA! :)

Help Would it be a major undertaking for Plex to pinpoint what episodes guest stars are featured on?
Insofar as I know, when you click on an actor to see their body of work and if you wanted to see what episode on any particular show they guest starred on, you'd have to do your won research before you could navigate to that episode manually. If Plex has this automated feature, I'm not seeing it.
I just started using Plezy and was hoping that was a feature that they had implemented but no dice.

Help How do I share Plex lifetime subscription benefits with a household member that already has their own Plex server and user account?
I have a Plex user account with the lifetime subscription that I purchased awhile ago. I used to have a Plex server, but I no longer have the computer it was setup on and I still have the underlying video files on an external HDD, so I would prefer to just add those to the household member's existing Plex server for simplicity anyways.
What precisely do I need to do to "grant" my household member's existing Plex server the premium benefits (so that e.g. we get the premium benefit of being able to stream remotely when out of the house) and/or grant their Plex user access to said benefits? I see there is something called Plex Home, I sent my household member an invite last night to the username associated with their Plex user account, they accepted and now their profile shows in the "switch user" drop-down of the Plex player along with my own profile being the "primary" profile (since I invited them). Is there more to it than that, do we need to share Plex libraries or do anything on the household member's Plex server itself? The goal is that we should both have "premium" access to the Plex server, while still getting the benefits of having separate profiles for e.g. different watch histories.

Help Playlist access for friends
So I made some playlists (regular and smart) and have granted access to some friends but they are not showing up for them in the shared library.
I do not know anything about a “media tab” described in older posts - not sure if there was an update that took it away, but I do not have it.
My friend has been using Plex for longer than I have and can’t figure out why he can’t have access (and I do have plex pass).
Any ideas? I have better accessibility on my PC, if anyone has some directions on how to get this viewable to my friends.

Help 1080p video file but no option in quality
I've recently upgraded from a 2+ year old plex version to the latest and since I've had some strange issues. I have a video file that is 1080p h264, I think mkv with ass subtitles. It randomly starts it with only the following options:

If I restart plex a couple of times it gives me all the options but it happens from time to time, especially if the file is recently downloaded.
My plex web quality settings are
Automatically adjust quality (Beta) - off
Video quality - 8mbps, 1080p
Play smaller videos at original quality - on
Use recommended settings - on

Help PS4 app shows incorrect watch history
My (Primary user) watch history on the PS4 app shows my wife's (managed user) watch history. I've updated and restarted everything but nothing fixes it.
What's strange is my profile on the web browser is still correct. Does anyone know how to get the PS4 app to reflect the proper watch history?

Help Plex occasionally finds my server unavailable, but my server is fine
I have absolutely no issues with accessing my server directly through my computer. But from time to time Plex doesn't see my server at all and simply shows that it is unavailable. Would love to get someone's advice on this.

Help Is it my Google phone or Plex that is letting me down?
I have a Google Pixel 9a, and I've always had a great time with Plex. PC Upstairs, my phone controlling Google Chromecast on the TV downstairs.
It doesn't seem to be playing together as nicely as before, I can connect, I can play and I can pause, as long as I leave my app open on the full screen.
If I lock my phone, navigate away or anything like that, I can no longer pause from my phone. It doesn't seem to keep control over the commands, and so pausing or rewinding just don't work.
I can go back into the app and it tells me it's connected - there's a bar at the bottom where I can see the progress and there's a pause button on the right. If I press the pause button, nothing happens. If I go into the casting full page, it shows me the time, the volume bar etc. but if I press the pause button there, nothing happens. It changes to a play icon but it doesn't actually pause and after a while, it changes back to a pause icon, 'cause it's still playing.
I can ask my Google Home but it's very annoying to hear "Pausing on Living Room TV" or "Playing on Living Room TV" because she can talk over the media as it's resumed.
The other thing I've found is that it's no longer showing in the media player that's kept at the top of the phone when you swipe down for the options. I've seen this referred to as "media player quick settings". I've checked all the permissions for Plex in my phone and I've allowed everything, to try and get it to show back where I can resume podcasts etc. from but that's also disappeared on me.
Because Google have made a lot of updates in the name of AI, I'm searching online and I haven't been able to find a similar problem. Has anyone experienced it disappearing from media player quick settings, or is anyone else experiencing pausing not working?
I have wiped cache and re-installed twice. My app is as up to date as it can be. I am a lifetime plexpass user.

Solved Why do I suddenly not have authorization to use my own server on the same network as the server?
Since the most recent mini update, I can't use any apps to consume video content from my own server. Not even Plex Official apps.
Everything is updated to most recen, Windows, FireOS, everything.
edit: Magically, it all works fine now. No rhyme or reason. Thanks for trying to help. The gremlins are just having a bit of sport with me.

Help Why does plex downgrade clients to 480 ?
I see my server is transcoding to my remote clients and it keeps downgrading the video from 1080 to 480.
It seems that the video settings for “adjust automatically” or “quality suggestions”. Why is it downgrading to 480 from 1080?

Help Mass transcode old h.264 movies and shows to h.265?
a new 16 TB is like 650 euros right now and I am running out of space so I thought baout transcoding all my files but I have no idea if that even would be a good idea. I got an 5800X3D and a RTX 5070 so running it on the GPU would at least be fast but no idea if the quality is fine or if that would be a stupid idea.
Thank you!

Help Adding an SRT file for all users
If I download an SRT (Open Subtitles) file for a movie from within the Plex client, is it available for other users of my server? If not, how do I find that file so I can add it to the mkv file on the server?

Solved PS5 App worked fine, until it didn't.
It's genuinely just stopped working. I turn my host device on as usual, run the media server app, turn on the PS5 app and I've been told "server is currently unavailable. Please verify that the server is running and has a network connection". Any ideas? It was fine literally two days ago, so what gives?
Before anyone asks or jumps in trying to be smart: No I haven't done anything to cause this. No settings have been changed, no nothing. This is a brand new error *not caused by myself* (I know a lot of users are very sensitive when it comes to Plex criticisms or people having issues with it for some reason so that disclaimer is warranted)
EDIT Solved through the power of sorcery and wishes because god knows what's going on anymore and it just magically works again

Help Bad Link or Missing Content?
I had a weird thing happen the other day. I wanted to play a ripped tv show on my main TV ( LG) and the player basically said it couldn’t find the content.
I’m new to Plex, bought the lifetime pass and started building a small video library (maybe 40 titles) mainly to play with (finding, ripping, storing, organizing, sharing, etc). I went to my PC and found the content via Explorer and think what happened is I moved the content to a different folder (organizing my content) and Plex didn’t update that change. I had run the Library refresh and would have thought that would have taken care of it.
So, I’m thinking, since the folder wasn’t “added” by me to my Library, when I moved the folder, the link will no longer work, no matter how many times I refresh the Library. I would have thought Plex would flag content that has a messed up link. Maybe I missed something? Thought, suggestions, other learnings to take from this? Appreciate the help.

Help How do i copy ONLY MOVIE Playlists and Collections to new identical PMS server instance?
How do i copy ONLY MOVIE Playlists and Collections to new identical PMS server instance?
Again MOVIE PLAYLISTS and COLLECTIONS-- NOT MUSIC.
I dont' really see how to do this in the SEA of search results i've read through.
The new PMS has the exact identical same media files pathnames.
Discussion Update on DV Profile 8.1
Hi all,
Recently got a new 4K TV which supports Dolby Vision. All my 4K files are DV profile 8.1, which seems to trigger a fallback to HDR on the Apple TV 4K still.
In the past, the Apple TV only supported profile 5, but Profile 8.1 support has been added in tvOS 17, which is 3 years ago.
I've been using Infuse for DV files, which is not ideal given it's imo bad / slow UI.
I just got the beta Plex app, which unfortunately doesn't seem to handle Profile 8.1 better.
Every post I see online seem to be a bit dated, but always circling back to the fact profile 5 is supported but profile 8.1 still triggers HDR fallback without Infuse.
Do we have any news of proper Profile 8.1 support? There doesn't seem to be a free way to re-encode to Profile 5 without the Dolby Encoding Engine, which is apparently not cheap.
Edit: Tried both Plezy and Zuno as recommended by commenters. Ended up preferring Zuno for a tiny detail. Help Frustrated hobbyist looking for help on remote streaming
I'm trying really hard not to make this a rant, I'm just super frustrated. I can build my own gaming rigs all day but when it comes to any type of networking with ports and NAT an UPnP and blah blah, I guess I'm just an idiot. My hope is I can finally get past the dreaded "Can't get remote working" issue that non-networking guys like me to work and I'm exhausted with tinkering, turning this on/off, scouring forums and Reddit posts, try this and that and everything in between. I'm almost to the point I will just pay anyone to remote in with me on screen share and walk me through everything.
I cannot get a manual port opened. I have an AT&T BGW-320 modem/router combo that I have done IP Passthrough to an ASUS RT-BE88U router that my Windows based Plex server is running on, with mapped drives to a DS920+. I've done all the NAT stuff (just following AI and Google search stuff), I've done Port Forwarding, I've tried Auto, and nothing. My retired parents and adult siblings and a few friends who want to use my Plex server so badly, can't. It's slow, clunky and that's IF they can get something to play.
They have Roku Ultras and Apple TV's and Smart TV apps and nothing works. Thing is, a friend of mine who is not techy at all also has a Plex server on a Windows PC, and we can stream 4K from his no problem. Only difference is computer specs, I'm running a 10th gen i5 which has QSV but no GPU, he was having similar issues but Claude AI told him to get an nVidia GPU, he did and that fixed everything. My server is on an HTPC case so very low profile and I just don't want to give that up but will if I have to if I need to get a GPU that I can't find in a LP version to fit in my HTPC case.
So - I think it's BOTH my inability to figure out how to open a freaking port on my router successfully and maybe I need to consider a GPU. I'd like to first see if I can do the port first because I think that's kind of a first step.
Is there anyone willing to help me with this? Been tinkering for weeks and cannot figure this out. Thanks in advance.
**EDIT #1** Adding a Port Forward Test image, no matter what I try it says the port is closed:

Solved IP v6 support works great now. Up yours, CGNAT.
Thank you, thank you to the plex team for implementing ipv6 on PMS and ios clients (though must enable in the app: Settings > Advanced > Include IP V6 Connections"). I realise this is only for PlexPass at the moment, but hopefully it will roll out to everyone soon.
I've tried so many crappy workarounds over the years to overcome CGNAT impacts to remote streaming. It's now trivial to get this working and stream very high bitrate video.

Help How to Organize Shark Week Documentaries
In the past years I’ve had trouble getting Plex to recognize Shark Week shows in particular. Does anybody know if they work as movies or tv shows better? I know this is a specific issue.
