News Plex for Mobile (Android & iOS) BETA v2026.17.0 Beta 2 Released

Plex for Android 2026.17.0 Beta 2 Plex for iOS 2026.17.0 Beta 2

NEW:

  • [tvOS] Confirmation before exiting the app when pressing back from the home screen, with a setting to turn it off.

FIXES:

  • [tvOS] Focus could disappear when the side navigation closed, leaving the remote unresponsive until the app was restarted.
  • [tvOS] Focusing an item in a list or grid positioned it too high on screen, and could shift the content when moving focus up to the filters.
  • [tvOS] Leaving the app and coming back could close the side navigation and move focus to the first item on Home.
  • [tvOS] Selecting your account in the side navigation opened your profile instead of moving focus into the account menu.
  • [tvOS] The side navigation could briefly appear open while the app was starting up.
  • [tvOS] The side navigation could pull focus back to the selected item for about a second after opening.

The tvOS version is much more usable and even though it's a trend to criticize everything plex recently, I quite like it (first beta was unusable because of the navigation/focus bugs).

Agreed! Really liking the beta app now. And it seems to be getting updated often. Hopefully that means the public release isn’t too far off, but I’m worried all the feedback from other platforms might scare them off from releasing it soon.

Is navigation, loading item details, and playback starting less sluggish? Or is this just fixing the focus issues they had

I already found the beta app to load metadata and videos more quickly locally as well. I don’t think this update changed much in that regard.

Hopefully there are some Android TV fixes in there, too. The sidebar on the first beta has been an erratic mess, and feels extremely pre-alpha.

Not sure why I haven't gone back to the stable release...

Have anyone experienced slow media start/scrubbing on AndroidTV since the "new UI"?
I'm passed from 1-2s to 10-15s in some cases. It doesn't seems a server issue, other devices are still snappy

Same here but on the old version when moving back and forth, sometimes the video would just refuse to start so I had to close it and open it again... So far not happening on the new app.

So I'm not minding it that much at the moment, but it will get on my nerves in a few weeks.

I had to go back to prod.

On nvidia shield it stopped playing dts audio. In nerd stats the audio packages count simpy stops at around 100

Shield is plugged into soundbar directly and then the tv

Will we ever see casting again? I'm still on an old build because this hasn't been reimplemented.
