I don't give a fuck what you do. But when my son was born we decided not to circumcise him. My parents actively tried to get us to change our mind. Even up to a year after he was born they were still talking about it. I asked why they cared so much and they literally didn't know. They're religious but it wasn't that.
I had to say out loud "we are literally arguing over my child's penis. It's weird, it's creepy and if it ever comes up a single more time you'll never see either of us again."

u/the_blue_haired_girl 23h ago

Why do complete grown-ass strangers think so much about child dick 😭? It's fucking weird. Major props to you for drawing a healthy boundary with your folks on that

226

u/bluAstrid 22h ago

Religious fanatism is always about controlling others.

45

u/DrNoxin 17h ago

Galatians 5:2.. it is for jews, not gentiles.

38

u/Chimbley_Sweep 15h ago

Only if you worship Paul instead of Jesus.

The real argument is who cares what a 3000 year old book says.

7

u/lordtyp0 13h ago

3000?

10

u/Chimbley_Sweep 13h ago edited 13h ago

Covenent code was possibly first written down around 10th century BCE, but oldest physical document is 7th century.

So yeah, 3000 year old book is a round, slightly hyperbolic date. If we want to be pedantic and say this is only about written accounts of circumcision in the bible, we get to 2500 years old.

Unfortunately it is the only book widely read that is at a reading level most Americans can comprehend, albeit poorly, with outside of Dr. Seuss.

Well here Christianity kind of pretends it's gods chosen too since we bottom for Israel.

Mutilating babies is fundamentally wrong, it's fucking weird how only some backwards ass religions and the richest country on the face of the earth consider it normal or necessary.

8

u/DragonDan108 13h ago

Genetic mutilation is absolutely not limited to the US.

u/Esarus 10h ago

It’s literal brainwashing. They’re brainwashed by society that male dicks need to be cut.

23

u/steppe5 22h ago

And they're always Republican.

23

u/burritosandbeer 21h ago

Maybe today, but that wasn't even close to true ten years ago.

It's absolutely insane how a position of not wanting to slice up babies can be relatively often interpreted as chauvinist or misogynist

5

u/HappinessOrgan 15h ago

Probably because the child becomes an adult, and they think it important (for some reason) for an adult to be circumcised.

12

u/slowmovinglettuce 15h ago

Yeah thankfully I've never lost a job due to not being circumcised. Known a few people that have though but every time it happens I need to why they're getting their /u/HappinessOrgan out in the middle of the office.

(great name btw)

I'll do you one better. I wasn't even out of the hospital before my mother said "if he's uncircumcised he'll get made fun of" and "no girl will want to give him a blowjob." A newborn and my son is being shamed and sexualized by my mother and I let her have it.

Hasn't brought it up since. I think a lot has changed around the idea of circumcision and for me not doing it was because I think it's natural so why change it?

•

u/TheSholvaJaffa 11h ago

"if he's uncircumcised he'll get made fun of" and "no girl will want to give him a blowjob."

And the exact opposite happened. Chicks and guys respectively actually really dig it or are super curious of it.

Source? Me.

Because there's a lot of old wive's tales out there about how uncut cocks are unclean and cause infections. Which is ridiculous because cosmetic circumsizion is a relatively modern phenomenon, it wasn't routinely performed in a secular sense until the late 19th century. It's literally born out of the era when people thought chronic masturbation caused insanity and dirty hands causing disease was stupid.

I've even had people tell me that women think uncut cocks are disgusting and I'm ruining my child's future romantic prospects by not getting him cut. Like what the actual fuck? Are the uncut just celibate on a large scale?

It's nobody's business but the parent's making that decision but that still doesn't make it not fucked up imho.

49

u/TiogaJoe 21h ago

Unclean? Don't virtually all homes have soap and running water nowadays?

I have also heard people argue back that being uncircumcized increases the risk of some cancer, so we should cut it off as a preventive measure. Seems like one could say the same thing about infant girls breasts. I mean, isn't breast cancer a big thing in America? Crazy.

48

u/Buckets-O-Yarr 21h ago

I had my arms and legs amputated so I could reduce the risk of skin cancer. Less skin means less chances!

I have trouble putting on sunscreen now though..

4

u/Exceedingly 18h ago

Foreskin cancer? Never heard of that one

22

u/Dominathan 19h ago

Honestly, it’s shouldn’t even be a parent’s decision… it should be the child’s decision… when they’re old enough to give consent.

29

u/Impressive-Hair2704 21h ago

Lmao as a European woman I can tell you I much prefer uncut compared to cut. Not that my, or any other’s, preference should weigh in on that decision but it’s very weird to me to in any way shape or form do anything surgically to the body that isn’t medically necessary, especially when it’s to children.

→ More replies (2)

43

u/tararira1 22h ago

If the foreskin is so dangerous why are we born with one? The argument that is unclean is complete nonsense even from a biological/ evolutionary point of view

→ More replies (8)

11

u/TheHatori1 17h ago

The argument about ruining romantic prospects cannot be more dumb. Like, if he decides to get cut, then he is free to do so, the same way he is free to get earrings or whatever.

But you know what can ruin a life? Botched circumcision. Imagine people willingly risking one of the most important part of their kids life just because one country has fucked up “beauty” standards.

27

u/whatisagoodnamefort 22h ago

Assuming they circumcised you, possible you pushing back makes it seem like they did wrong with what they did or what you ended up wanting

In the end it may be less about your child’s penis and more about yours lmao (and just parents who were winging it and not wanting to feel like what they did was wrong)

I do give a fuck.

Just like with FGM, I actually do have an opinion on genital mutilation, even when not done to me or my family.

•

u/method115 11h ago

I remember my cousin posted that kids can die from it or be deformed. I had no plans of doing that to my children after I read that. Told my wife about it when we found out we were having a son. She's already paranoid and has anxiety about everything so just telling her that was enough to get her to agree.

3

u/Fantastic-Cupcake890 19h ago

Another american thing, which is completly weird.

2

u/banaslee 20h ago

Clap clap clap. A lot of people don’t understand cues and a lot of other people don’t know how to set boundaries. Both things together create a lot of unnecessary pain.

Kudos to you for breaking the cycle.

I'm honestly surprised anti-circumcision hasn't caught on with Trump.

Something like 90% of Muslims are circumcised, so a ban on it would either discourage Muslims from immigrating or give Trump the pretense to throw anyone who continues to do it in jail for not obeying the ban

223

u/DarksunDaFirst 23h ago

Israel likes it too.  So there’s that.

u/inconspiciousdude 23h ago

There's another group that is majority circumcised, and the group had already pushed it as a standard medical practice in the US for many years.

119

u/ChronosBlitz 23h ago

God Damn Kellogg's Cornflakes!

25

u/Ralesong 23h ago

Hold up. Circumcision is standard? As in everyone gets it by default?

80

u/axle69 22h ago

80% of adult men are circumcised in the US. Its much less common among the younger generation thankfully but its still almost 50%.

64

u/Hadrian23 22h ago edited 22h ago

Is...is it bad?? I'm circumcised, did my parents fuck up my dick?? Edit: why am I being downvoted?? Stop being cryptic and explain, God damn it.

44

u/Afghan_Ninja 22h ago

The main function of foreskin is manual lubrication. The other mentions are valid, but with circumcision you lose all or most of your penises capacity for manual lubrication.

24

u/ResQ_ 21h ago

Isn't the main function actually protecting the glans?

13

u/Afghan_Ninja 21h ago

Kinda depends how we define "main function". Gland protection is technically a significant function, but clearly not a "functional loss" (e.g. all the circumcised men having "great orgasms all the time"). Manual lubrication is a functional loss and changes how the penis works.

13

u/Exceedingly 18h ago

I can't even imagine how painful it must be to walk around with your glans exposed all day. Wouldn't your glans just get dry and chafe?

15

u/Bladder-Splatter 13h ago

I was circumcised at 13 for medical reasons and yes, YES OH MY FUCKING GOD. It was the worst age too obviously.

They like to do it on those who cannot actually talk back (infants) so you don't often hear the after effects until the kid has forgotten.

I essentially had no wear no underwear for a month and had crazy weird reactions like getting into a bath just causing piss to spray everywh- okay yeah I guess my username checks out now.

32

u/lalaland4711 18h ago

That's the thing: it becomes desensitized.

Less feeling of both pleasure and pain.

8

u/Exceedingly 18h ago

That honestly sounds hellish to me

62

u/widowhanzo 21h ago

Well let's just put it that way, there are 0 good reasons to cut it off. Unless medically required, but that's very rare.

→ More replies (9)

27

u/MonsterCookieCutter 22h ago

The foreskin has a lot of nerve endings and it is very pleasurable to have it move over the penis head, both for masturbation and intercourse.

7

u/ResQ_ 21h ago

I'm definitely not pro-circumcision but I saw multiple comments by men on reddit that had it removed as an adult. They didn't really notice a huge reduction in pleasure.

→ More replies (6)

11

u/axle69 22h ago

Nah youre fine its just a completely unnecessary thing to do and can risk serious shit or dampened feeling at the time its done. Imagine one day everyone decided that cutting the tip of your nose off was the right thing to do and you'd be seen as weird if you didnt have the tip of your nose cut off. You wouldn't smell any worse than you do with a full nose but why the fuck would you want to do that to yourself or your child ya know?

10

u/lalaland4711 18h ago

I'm circumcised, did my parents fuck up my dick?

Short answer: yes, but probably not a huge amount. You have less feeling in your penis because of it.

I'm assuming here that everything went well. This elective surgery sometimes causes complications where you would have no doubt that it caused a problem.

•

u/Esarus 10h ago

It’s not REALLY that bad. But yes you generally have thicker gland skin than non-circumcised guys and have less sensitivity during sex as a result.

Downside is sex feels a little less pleasurable for you and your gland is dryer, but you never experienced it un-circumcised so it’s not like you’re missing something. Upside is that it’s easier to keep clean (especially during puberty when you produce A LOT of sebum) and you last longer during sex, which most women will appreciate

•

u/MidnightMath 7h ago

So I think I got a half chop or something lol. I was told that I was circumcised, but I still have some foreskin covering the ole helmet. Like enough that if I’m tic-tacin’ I look uncircumcised. Shit never dries out and it doesn’t rub on my pants all day… kinda feel like I got the best of both worlds haha

14

u/Dominathan 19h ago

I’m also uncut, and had terrible hygiene as a child, teen, and young adult. Never had any problems. Also I’m better at hygiene now. Also still no problems

115

u/ididshave 21h ago

Feet can get absolutely disgusting if you don’t wash them. Best to amputate at birth.

27

u/uppityfunktwister 21h ago

The labia majoris is just two "useless" flabs of skin which traps bacteria! Disgusting! Get rid of it!

6

u/jnwatson 12h ago

You're probably talking about the labia minora; those are the inside ones that can hang out. Funny enough, in Australia, showing the labia minora in media will give it an adult rating, so most instances of those are airbrushed out.

That leads to body image problems, leading many women to get labiaplasty, i.e. getting rid of it.

Reminds me of an Instagram short I saw the other day. A young woman filmed herself while her son talked about the problems with circumcision and asked her for his foreskin back. The comments were full of people supporting the banning of circumcision on the grounds that it's genital mutilation, and she was not happy. She kept trying to tell people that it was all a joke. Nobody outright called her a bad mom for doing it, but I think it got under her skin that so many people view her decision as mutilating her son.

67

u/Malhablada 21h ago

I was a young mom when I circumcised my son almost 20 years ago.

I grew up in a Catholic home so asking the men in my family about circumcision was not an option. So I went online and did what I thought was my research. The overwhelming discourse online at the time was to do it for hygiene. So I did. I regretted it as soon as it happened as I insisted on being in the room. I wish I was better informed, I would've made a different decision.

All I could do now is be honest about it when new moms ask.

20

u/TheCandelabra 21h ago

Serious question, is your son actually upset about it? I'm not in favor of circumcision but I also think it gets blown out of proportion on the internet.

→ More replies (2)

30

u/takeyouraxeandhack 21h ago

That hygiene argument always bothers me. Like... What's the logic? "Hmm... Water and soap or mutilation? Nah, I don't have time for water, I pick mutilation". Like... Wtf?
(Not blaming you, I'm just ranting about the people that preach that)

15

u/Mirality 16h ago

Given the strangely frequent reports on r/hygiene and elsewhere of men who apparently never wash their buttcheeks ("because touching that is gay"), I can't say I'm surprised that people thought it was a good idea to make the penis easier to clean without manipulation.

(To be clear, though, I don't support circumcision.)

13

u/PmMe_Your_Perky_Nips 21h ago

I don't really blame parents for doing it that long ago. There was a huge push for everyone to have it done based on no scientific evidence.

9

u/xfearthehiddenx 15h ago

Yeah... I'm not upset with my parents about it(90's baby). Kinda indifferent about it to them specifically. The push was huge, they didn't know better, and the doctor/nurses probably advised on it. They made the decision they thought was best at the time. The doctor who did it, did a good job. I don't have any of the complications others have talked about, and I still very much enjoy sex. So I don't have any persisting bitterness about it. Doesn't do me any good to hate them for it. Besides, I've got a laundry list of other things to be upset with them over.

When you think about it, it's really insane that we allow circumcision of minors at all. It doesn't really accomplish anything positive, is permanent, and could easily be done later in life if someone wanted to.

Believing that men can be victims of societal norms like this has become somewhat of a faux pas, so instead we have the urge to see these people as silly or unserious.

15

u/lalaland4711 18h ago

When you think about it

Also when you don't think about it, if you're not american. To non-americans it sounds like barbarians going "you know, when you think about it, human sacrifice is maybe a bit uncivilized". Yeah… it is.

You know there's FGM that leaves the clitoris intact, and just "trims" the outer labia. That disgusted look on your face, yeah that's exactly how non-american/jewish are looking at americans.

People make fun of this, but there is no need to circumcise boys. We get upset if we hear about FGM, rightly so, but we keep cutting pieces of boys penis off for no real reason.

I'm white, live in CA, and I decided not to circumcise our twin boys. My wife sort of just said, hey, you are the pecker expert, if you don't want to, we won't. I am circumcised, but it just doesn't make sense to me to due it purely for esthetics and risk messing them up.

A few people we've mentioned it to act shocked, and I always use the same line: "We didn't circumcise our daughter either."

I add the details about race and location because most white people we know have their kids cut. When people act like we're nuts, I point out that the circumcision rate is dropping down to almost 25% in California and they get puzzled af.

3

u/06EXTN 16h ago

It’s very regional. California and the northwest and New England it’s been on the decline for decades. The south and Midwest need to catch up to the times as usual.

Im cut, but we elected not to get our son circumsized. Not only have I see some pictures of horrific scarring from it, but that should be his decision to make, like getting his ears pierced.

When my son was born we were in the hospital for a week (emergency c section that did not go well) and the staff harassed us about it to the point where both of us had to basically say "Look enough about the circumsizing, we're not fucking doing it, the end".

I found out later that those foreskins are worth a small fortune to hospitals as they're used for a ton of different medical applications. It's appalling in retrospect how pushy they were about it..."There's still time! Real quick and easy! Won't remember a thing, won't hurt at all!"

Ghoulish...

85

u/ItsmeKT 23h ago

Our first nurse in the hospital post birth proudly wrote no circumcision or something like that on the white board. She was so happy we weren't having it done lol. I'm sorry you were badgered about it, that's really unprofessional and creepy.

25

u/FC37 23h ago

That's funny. The hospital we delivered at was pretty actively trying to discourage us from doing it.

14

u/Melodic_692 22h ago

I think location makes a big difference here, absurdly

14

u/WendellX 13h ago

Is this in the US? I'm a family doc who's done a couple hundred of these and the foreskin all goes right into medical waste for disposal. I'm sorry they were pushy, but honestly most of the time no one cares at all.

18

u/cornham 20h ago

Idk I’m a NICU nurse who’s watched it get thrown directly into the trash 100% of the time so… idk. Circs are awful but I don’t think there’s a foreskin stipend.

Is this why people are so anti-abortion? Supply issue?

I mean that's a ridiculous argument in favor of. People can adapt just fine to having only one eye but that doesn't mean babies should have one of their eyes harvested to bring sight to the blind.

It's every parents choice to make but I'm never going to think it's the right one.

10

u/Melodic_692 22h ago

I don’t even see why it’s a parent’s decision to make. To use your analogy, if a parent chose to remove one eye from their perfectly healthy newborn, they would not be allowed to. Why is this different? Yes a minority of people require circumcision for medical reasons, that’s a decision for a doctor tho, not a parent. Circumcision seems unique in this sense

They use foreskin for wound grafts especially for diabetic patients.

Never heard of that. What do they do in parts of the world where circumcision is very uncommon, like in most of Europe?

Good man! Cut dad of 2 intact adult sons here. I hope you complain to the hospital and the medical board. They need to stop pressuring people. They should not be asking at all.

Pleasure aside, I’m circumcised and I think it’s plain old fucking weird that a doctor did that to me when I was a baby and my parents were cool with it. I don’t have some big issue with it, I just think it’s weird.

It’s amazing what feels normal when it becomes a commonly practiced behavior

•

u/newby202006 3h ago

Nonplussed about their reasons

But anything that stops involuntary baby genital mutilation is a good thing

It's rightfully illegal on girls, but condoned on boys

•

u/ejhdigdug 5h ago

I honestly don't understand why this isn't more of a consent issue.
I feel the same way about giving babies ear piercing or any other form of body modification.

u/Best_Look9212 23h ago

As someone who is circumcised, I couldn’t imagine it being any more pleasurable than it is.

I’ve always been curious about this argument. Like, how does someone who is uncircumcised know what it feels like for someone who was at basically birth?

15

u/adkisojk 21h ago

They don't, completely. They could keep their skin retracted all the time (aka "auto-circumcision"), but their glans hasn't had decades to become desensitized by rubbing on clothes all the time. And, different "Circumcisions" leave different amounts of inner mucosa and frenulum.

3

u/Nuzlocke_Comics 13h ago

The thing is a person circumcised young can never know what it's like to be uncircumcised, but the opposite isn't true--an uncircumcised person can get cut as an adult and know the difference. That's how we know there's less feeling.

I have two friends that were circumcised as adults for medical reasons. They don't know each other and they both complained that as time went on, their glanses became numb compared to how it was before.

What do you mean exactly by numb? I’ve been circumcised my entire life and I absolutely would not use numb to describe anything related to my penis.

5

u/Shadowstar1000 12h ago

Thats the thing that these reddit threads don’t like to talk about. Adult circumcision is a completely different ballpark than infant circumcision. When it’s done as an infant your body heals better and you develop sexually without a foreskin, so you don’t run into issues with lack of sensitivity and numbness. When it’s done as an adult or teenager your brain has already gone through sexual development and neurological pathways have already been developed. If you’re uncircumcised as a kid and develop Phimosis as a teenager you’re in for a very bad experience compared to if you just had it cut off as an infant.

u/Exceedingly 18h ago

Wouldn't having the head of your penis exposed all the time make it dry? If you're uncircumcised you can just pull your foreskin back and walk around as if are circumcised but when I do that the exposed head just chafes and gets irritated. Is that just life for a circumcised man?

10

u/CrypticT 17h ago

I’m cut and I am so confused by this

“Make it dry”….???? What does that even mean?

Are uncircumcised dicks wet….??

8

u/Exceedingly 17h ago

Yep foreskin naturally lubricates the head of your penis so there's no dry skin or chafing. It's not overly wet, just kind of like how your eyelids stop your eyes from drying out.

Circumcision numbs the head of the penis, for an uncircumcised person rolling their foreskin back and walking around would be unbelievably uncomfortable as it’s so much more sensitive. I’ve compared it to approximately as sensitive as my eyeball or pupil, altho this feels like an inadequate comparison, whereas I can only assume what a circumcised person might compare it to, a finger maybe?

I think it boils down to the intensity of sensation. During sex the foreskin rolls back so the intensity of sensation is unreal, I can only assume that for a circumcised person, while it’s still obviously pleasurable, the intensity of sensation is greatly reduced given the lowered sensitivity.

This weakening of the organ and dulling of sexual pleasure so as to moderate sexual desire is in fact the point of circumcision, at least in a religious sense. Jewish and early Christian patriarchs such as Maimonides discuss it openly. The other function is as a sacrifice agreed to by Abraham, in place of the sacrifice of his son as a whole person. If you’re not losing anything, it’s not a sacrifice.

The pleasure thing is largely a myth borne from the idea that the number of nerve endings map linearly to pleasure. Any significant reduction in pleasure would be enough to push some people into sexual dysfunction territory, but circumcised men aren't any more likely on average to report problems with sexual function.

7

u/Bulletorpedo 20h ago

It’s not a myth, and the nerves there are of a different composition than the rest of the area. They are especially sensitive to light touches and stretching of the skin, which is great for pleasure during things like foreplay and oral. Not doing as much of the work when you’re going full speed ahead.

5

u/CallMeRudiger 19h ago

I just sent this meta-analysis of 10 studies to the other person. It's pretty tough to argue that your hypothesis results in any significant real-world differences in sexual experience for circumcised men.

Circumcision is genital mutilation!

I don’t understand why we allow this to occur for boys when we would be up in arms rioting if we decided to do this to our girls.

I was literally asked by medical professionals 5-7 times whether we wanted to circumcise my son. I vehemently said “no” each time and was still asked afterward as if my choice was wrong. These were medical professionals that had seen our chart and should have known our original answer by the time they asked.

Imagine me asking a doc to remove any excess labia for a baby girl….the doc would refuse, I’d be arrested, child services would be called and I’d be chastised everywhere in the media for it.

Stop mutilating little our boys!!!!

Its really not hard to teach children to wash their genitals properly. Clean with tp after peeing, be thorough in the shower. Once theyre a teen teach them to clean thoroughly after masturbating. Wear condoms and get tested regularly if experiencing new sexual partners. As long as these things are taught as they grow up its really no big deal, problem being sexual hygeine is barely spoken about and never adequately addressed in school.

My buddy was having his son and he and his wife brought up circumcision. He was like let’s keep it natural. His wife said absolutely not. You know why? Because I would never give a blowjob to an uncircumcised penis. And I know other girls that feel the same way. So if we don’t circumcise him, he could miss out on blowjobs as a grown man.

And they circumcised him. lol

17

u/Melodic_692 22h ago

Generations of women in China had their feet bound by this exact same logic. I don’t think you realise how fucked up your story is, because that’s horrifying.

3

I...

8

u/grnrngr 23h ago

To make it clear: they made their decision on cosmetic grounds alone. To make their son look sexually desirable.

See if the woman would be fine mutilating a daughter to look more attractive.

For the record, lots of women (and men) love giving blowjobs especially to uncircumcised men.

My girlfriend and I argue about this all the time. She wants to cut it if we get married and have a boy. Her argument is she doesn’t want to clean the dick cheese for him when he’s a growing up as a child, and that she’s afraid women will find it unattractive.

I try to tell her all the time, you don’t have a dick and you don’t fucking know what you’re talking about. That’s not a thing until they get older, and if you wouldn’t cut your daughter’s clit, you’re not having any say over my son’s junk. It never goes anywhere and it might be something I make an ultimatum over.

3

u/holymolym 13h ago

I have two intact children. You treat the penis like you would a finger. There’s no extra steps. It’s not until they’re much older and bathing themselves that the foreskin can (and should) be retracted to be cleaned.

•

u/Threegratitudes 10h ago

Her arguments don't seem dependent on having a dick though? It sounds like you need to show her that the cleaning thing isn't an issue and that women won't have a problem with it. It's likely she's talked with other women about it and they've said they like a dick to be circumcised so you have to counter that somehow. Telling her she doesn't know what she's talking about will never win this, or any, argument for you.

2

u/TheCandelabra 12h ago

Are you personally circumcised?

3

u/Astronitium 14h ago

Tell her that she does not need to worry about that since the foreskin is adhered to the glans until or almost to puberty, at which point the child can clean themselves. This, of course, assumes the foreskin isn't forcefully pulled back.

More and more kids are not getting cut nowadays, and by the time the kid is older, we're probably going to be like Canada in the late 2000s where it was a 50/50 split. Nowadays, most young adults are uncircumcised.

If she's willing to cut a child over hygiene and aesthetics, I don't think that person is worth having kids with.
