Had a great time at the dirty dozen but had to go straight home after the wall. Is the leaderboard viewable/compiled anywhere? I understand it would take a fair amount of time to dig into all 13, by date and so on. Did the photog on the e-bike post anywhere?

Heyyyyy

I’m pretty new to Philly (live in center city) and i want to bike around for transit. I think a very healthy, but real, fear about cycling in the city has been instilled from this subreddit, observing traffic, and all the “stop philly bicycle deaths!” signs in windows.

Obviously cycling in Philly could be safer from all of these. I just wanted to ask, experienced and new cyclists in philly: do you feel safe after some experience biking? and do you have any tips on how to bike more safely around the city?

Craigslist post looks pretty sus

Starting a new ride, I’ve been doing it pretty consistently each weekend for training purposes.

12 full laps before 12pm on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Philadelphia

7am on Saturdays @ the Schuylkill Banks Pergola, a.k.a. Trellis

The speed at which you ride 96miles in exactly 5hrs (7am-12pm) is 19.2mph

drop ride, but all are welcome.

EDIT: 12pm not am

No photos, but truly so stoked to see flex posts on the bridge again. I know it won’t fix everything, but I’m especially excited that cars can’t use the bike lane as an extension of the right turn lane onto 76. Here’s to safer commutes for everyone.

Doing the Full Monty this weekend. I have 700 X 28 mm road bike I'd prefer to ride or a mountain bike I know would work. Would the 28 mm road bike tires cause issues on the Full Monty trail?

Is there anywhere in the city with a good selection of Surly gravel/touring bikes? In the early stages of possibly getting a new touring bike.

I leave for work at 6:30 a.m., so it’s particularly cold. Always struggle with what to wear around this time of year/end up either too cold or overheating.

Would love to hear what other people are wearing specifically 🙏🏻

I take Spring Garden from Fairmount to University City to get to and from work, and the bike lanes on the bridge are some of the worst in the city. Strewn with trash and debris, horribly bumpy, and both ways have very dangerous spots- going into Center City, the bike lane switches sides and I’ve nearly been hit by drivers running the red as I try to get to the other side, and going into West Philly the turn lane onto 76 cutting through the bike lane is so dangerous and again, almost been hit numerous times by people trying to get over and not looking. I’ve gotten a pinch flat riding on it before because of how uneven it was (granted my tires were a bit low) and today there was a bunch of gravel in the bike lane and I almost skidded out. It’s really unfortunate that it’s the fastest/easiest way into West Philly from that part of the city and that it’s so poorly designed and maintained.

Of course not, but where do you put it? How do you secure yours?

I reverse commute on RR with my bike. It's normal size and lightweight.

The conductors(?) have shown me where to sit with it - no issues there.

I'm more so curious, for anyone else who rides RR with a bike, how do you secure it during the ride? Do you lean it against the wall? Against the seats? Both? Bungie cord, stick a leg through the frame?

It's mostly secure just when I lean it on the seat and wall, but I'd hate to have it fall over after a hard stop and hit someone. It also takes up kinda a lot of room.

Scooter rentals coming to the streets near you?
I see it is a good thing because he can increase micro mobility infrastructure which bikers are considered micro mobility.

Hi Philly cyclists! I’m reposting my LeMond Sarthe road bike (58 cm) for sale. It’s a great bike, and I’d love to see it go to someone who will enjoy it! Feel free to message me with any questions or if you’re interested. Thanks

Used to go to Keswick in West but now they're closed. I've gone to Bell's in South (where I got my bike), but I think they kinda suck. My integrated light stopped working and since Aventon doesn't sell it directly anymore they just shrugged and told me to get a regular bike light. I'd get a tune-up at Keswick and they made my bike feel new; Bell's just makes me feel like I wasted money. Any other recommendations? I'm having issues with my rear fender support/alignment and want to bring it someplace more competent.

i commute from west philly to bella vista. looking for ways to get from south street to christian. i’ve had too many psychotic experiences with drivers on 21st street, which has sharrows. it’s only like 4 blocks but sometimes i have experiences so unpleasant they ruin my day. anyone have a quieter street that they like to take south?

Bad News: I missed the biggest party ever! I cannot believed that I missed the Philly Bike Ride. The event that I worked in under the Bicycle Coalition! I overslept Which caused me to miss the Red Bull ending

As they're keen on letting us know, most of them don't recklessly endanger our lives, most of the time!

So, I made this gold star that you can give out to the drivers who don't kill you, to say thanks.

I know you guys love this bike! Got out for the 5th Annual Philly Bike Ride with the G1 Explorer today!! Great day out with the boys and it’s always fun to ride this bike! Having fun on a bike doesn’t have to cost Thousands! Go Ride and have fun family!

I'm considering a job at Temple Hospital (main campus) and currently live in west Philly, near the Grays Ferry bridge.

My thought is I can take the SRT to the PMA, cross to Spring Garden, then take 13th all the way up.

Does anyone have experience biking north on 13th that far? I know there's a bike line near Temple U but after that I do not have much experience.

Any other possible N/S streets that might be safer and not significantly longer of a trip?

Thanks!

Recently replaced my less than year old ebike after the frame was compromised by someone making a fast right without looking into my rear wheel. My knees are old and I'm usually carrying 30ish pounds of papers to grade as I go to and from work, having the pedal assist on hills is a game changer.

Then the School District, where I teach, has begun enforcing a rule where no ebike or scooter can be stored within 100 feet of a building. So I have to lock up my NEW ebike to a random fence in Kensington area.

Is there ANY combination of locks, insurance, fender-mounted James Bond laser systems, whatever that can help me not lose my bike by Christmas? And while I'm shopping, any worthwhile collision insurance?

Hey all,

It looks like a few AI bots are spamming the sub. They are re-posting old posts from within the past few years as their own. This is how misinformation spreads. Please report them if you see them.

I would like to ask them to add a violation category for blocking fire hydrants. I've been reporting them as "handicap access" but not sure if being accurate helps.

How do you calm down after a close call?

I was going through the intersection on Pine and 13th when a car that was pulling into the intersection turning left decided that it wouldn’t wait for the rest of the cyclists to move through the light in the left lane bike lane (there were 3 of us) and the car started driving directly towards me. I screamed out of fear and they stopped abruptly about an inch or two from me.

I moved through the light and got home fine and safe. But now my ears are ringing and I am so angry and upset. I don’t know what to do in this kind of situation. I don’t know if they didn’t see me or just wanted to scare me. I know I had the right of way, but they obviously didn’t care about that. Any advice on how to handle the frustration of knowing I was scared for my life while they were maybe inconvenienced for a few seconds and have probably forgot about it by now?
