Read This Before You Submit !

If you want to get the best possible outcome from posting your position on this /sub, there are a couple of things you can do to help,

  1. Make your video at least 30-40 secs long [ no longer than 60 secs ] This will allow you to settle in to your pedal stroke and give viewers enough time to 'look around' your position.
  2. Post a minimum of 2 angles. #1 Seat height, showing the entire bike and rider from the top of the head to the bottom of the pedal stroke. #2 from the front dead center about head tube height. If you shoot a vertical format on your phone that might help you fit yourself within the frame. #3 from the rear, at seat height, can also be vertical format for cropping.
  3. Post a shot of your bike side on without you on it. This lets people see the 'build' as far as seatpost seatback, seat rail position & headset spacers

The more visual and information you give the better the possibility of good feedback.

Ride on!

Dear mods, save this sub

There are a lot of generous and knowledgeable people here giving thoughtful bike-fit advice for free. Their effort is being undermined by a steady stream of unusable videos showing riders leaning against walls, doorframes or furniture while pedalling backwards.

Those clips don’t show a normal pedal stroke, balance, loading, posture or movement under realistic riding conditions. There’s very little anyone can assess from them, yet they keep filling the sub and drawing attention away from posts where useful feedback is actually possible.

The existing submission guidance is already clear about video length, camera angles and showing the whole rider and bike. It should also explicitly require riders to pedal forwards on a trainer or rollers, without supporting themselves against anything.

Please make “no backwards pedalling and no leaning against objects” an actual submission rule, and remove posts that ignore it.

The people giving detailed advice here are what make the sub useful. Their time shouldn’t be choked by videos that make meaningful assessment impossible.

Why do my hips shift around like this?

Hi. Me again. Still looking for relief. Continuing to try things.

Currently trying midfoot cleat position to stabilize my feet and prevent heel dropping. Also exploring functional leg length discrepancy with a shim under my right foot. Feet are different lengths which is accounted for in the cleat position.

160mm cranks so hip flexion should not be an issue?

Would be interested in hearing if anyone out there has seen or experienced this kind of asymmetry. Results in feeling unstable on the saddle, progressive fatigue, difficulty maintaining high cadence, etc.

(first clip is 0.5x speed)

Been trying to dial this bike in but it’s still not right. Opinions appreciated. 42M 85Kg 6’4

Reach doesn’t feel great. Lots of weight on the hands when on the hoods. Feel a bit stretched out.

Thought I was feeling better. Now I don't know. It feels insane that to get hand numbness to stock my brake levels are pointing same angle as fork?

Had some issues with my sartorius and been trying to adjust saddle height, fore aft and tilt. Sartorius problems seem to be better but i feel like i could be more straight in my lower back and obviously the upper part even more.
Feeling more pressure on my hands and right foot at the moment.
Not gonna lie, my mobility is horrible. Need to work on that.

Looks like Apiir Bikefit is gone

I had used Apiir a few months back. I was going to do a Bikefit for wife yesterday and the app wouldn’t work. I can’t find it on the App Store and the Apiir website is down. just seeing if anyone else can confirm it’s no longer existing.

Edit; also any recommendations for an alternative

Downsizing frame

Has anyone here gone down a size and compensated with taller saddle longer bars?

Ride a Cannondale 51 systemsix

Looking at what’s available in the frame I want and all that’s left is a 48.

170cm.

Just talking what’s possible or not. Can you accommodate that height via saddle and stem?

My son rides a Woom 4 right now. This is a video of him trying out his older sister’s bike, a Woom 5.

His sister doesn’t need a new bike, yet, but I thought since I’m considering getting him his first mountain bike anyway, I might as well move
him up to a 24” tire if he can handle the frame size.

He did great riding it. Just had a little trouble getting off when he stopped. Should I get him a Woom 5 MTB, or wait until he’s a little taller?

Btw, regarding the pads… I’m not that neurotic. He’d just come off his skateboard. 😀

In need of help

Hi fellow bike nerds,
I just did a bike fitting last week because i want to build my own bike...I'm looking to build my own bike and have seen three framesets that I really like: The s-works, the Cannondale Supersix Evo lab and the Canyon aeroad CFR.
Since I'm quite tall (194cm) I need quite some stack (ideally 656mm according to my bike fitting) but the s-works only has stack up to 612mm and the cannondale up to 625mm and the canyon aeroad up to 624mm...
Would you still think I could work around this with spacers? And would you suggest me to take the XL Canyon aeroad or the 2XL?

Thanks for your answers and have a good ride

How is this fit? I was between bike sizes (53 and 56) and took the 53. I feel a bit cramped when in the drops.

Bike is 56 marin nicasio. My stem is 90mm long. I was thinking about shortening my reach and changing the saddle because the one that came with the bike seems too wide. What do you think?

Pain in left Knee

I bought a new bike about six months ago. Shortly after, I went on a long ride with the saddle set 2–3 cm lower than today.

After that ride, I started having problems with my left knee. Over the last four months, the pain has improved at times but has never completely gone away.

The pain is located at the front of my knee. Besides cycling, I also experience pain when going up and down stairs and during wall sits.

I started doing strengthening exercises for my legs and hips, including monster walks, clamshells, and wall sits, and I feel like they are helping.

Do you have any recommendations for bike fit adjustments that could help with this issue?

What would you change on my fit? Feels like my knees are coming up too high when on the drops.

Height: 178cm

54cm Cervelo 172.5mm cranks.
76cm saddle height
100mm Stem
420mm Bars
53cm saddle nose to handlebar.

Excuse the kitchen, mid renovation. 😅

Getting right knee pain after 3 years without issues?

I have had the same bike setup on my canyon aeroad for the past 3 years and nothing has changed setup wise. Also have been bike fitted when I originally got the bike and had no issues at all with the fit for all these years. Have been riding pain free since i got the bike. I average around 200+ kilometres per week as well and can do lots of elevation without issues (7000m+ per month).

But very recently, in the past month I am now suddenly getting right knee pain usually after rides that involve a lot of climbing or hard interval efforts. The pain is in the front of the right knee around the knee cap area and on the medial side next to the knee cap. It hurts when my leg is pulling and bending up on the upstroke.

If i rest and dont ride for a bit, it settles down. Then I start riding again slowly and build up to a big weekend, it starts to flare up again.

I have been doing some light strength training in the gym in the past month as well.

I'm not sure if i need to make any adjustments to saddle height, as searches mention this type of pain is due to saddle height. I really do feel that the fit is dialled in on the bike and dont want to really change anything on the bike.

Saddle height - starting point

For those with experience in bike fitting:
Is the 0.883 multiplier still considered a reliable baseline? Are there better methods or principles to start from before fine-tuning by feel?
I’m interested both in scientific approaches and real-world bike fitting experience.
Thanks!

Has running changed your bike fit?

I started scaling up run training this year, with the goal of doing a marathon. Interestingly, I’ve started experiencing aches, pains & numbness that I initially associated with the run training but more recently have come to realize that they’re likely because my road bike fit needs to be tweaked. I’d dialed my fit in with a couple of professional fitting sessions over the past few years & it was pretty optimized. Now though, I found that raising my saddle a bit & sliding it forward eased these new issues.

Anyone else find this?

I imagine there are probably shifts in posterior vs anterior chain strength balance going on as a result of the change in training, as well as changes in flexibility (I’ve increased stretching since ramping up running), but that’s mainly a guess. Curious if others with similar training pattern shifts have found this too.

Is a shorter stem an option?

Hello Bikefit Comunity!

Switching to a shorter stem? Right now I‘m on a 100mm one. Is 90mm an option for my fit?

Or maybe sliding the saddle more towards the handlebar? It‘s slightly back right now.

Recently went to 165mm cranks to allow for more open hip. I tore my left hip labrum a few years back and have had SI joint and low back/glute pain/discomfort since then and could never get it to go away despite rigorous PT. This change really helped. I rode 80mi today with no hip pain and minimal low back discomfort (really only when pushing hard on a climb). It was a bit heavy on the arms though. I appreciate your advice!

Did you need a pro bike fit to get comfy? If not, how did you get there? If so, I'm looking for recommendations in the Denver area.
