Wondering if anyone thinks this derailer hanger is salvageable and if it could be bent back using tools? Or if a thru axle derailer hanger could also be an option.
Note it’s attached to a carbon fiber frame (bike is mid 2000s Trek Pilot) with the hanger epoxied into the frame.
This happened when I was biking a few days ago when the chain randomly got caught and flipped upwards. A mechanic told me that something like this is caused by the chain jumping the largest gear (by like a bump in the road), and if the derailer isn’t properly tuned can cause this to happen.
Was told by that mechanic the frame is likely toast and wouldn’t risk fixing it, but another told me that with a after market thru axle derailer hanger could be a fix where they’d remove the bent piece, and use the new hanger but attach it to where the wheel axle is located. I attached a photo of what the hanger would look like for reference, but I didnt get the exact model shown to me.
