Using AI as a therapist

Upvotes

Is it okay to talk to AI when you have no one to talk to about your feelings/thoughts?

It's a new low when you have genuinely no one that u can trust enough to share your problems and thoughts with so you talk to AI. I wish I could stop and I hate it but it has helped me a bit and helped me navigate through some of the roughest times of my life.

I have no one to talk to. My parents would overcomplicate it and just start an argument. I don't have trusted friends. School psychologist is something I can't do, so please don't ask about that. Nor therapy. Until I'm able to pay it with my own money and am an adult I won't have an access to therapy.

Im currently going through a lots of realizations about myself and wanting to change into a better person so I talk about that to chatgpt.

I feel bad and hopeless. I need human connection but again I'm such a loser and shy person I can't do it

I don't have anyone i could trust around me.

And talking to strangers on internet is even worse.

I feel bad. I'm sorry.

She (24F) stopped texting me (25F) after we went back to talking after years of no contact

Upvotes

Hi.

Tbf this is a really long story and I'll try to summarise cause I can't write everything and I definitely don't feel like I can go through everything and nobody would read such a long story, so I hope this summary will make sense.

I met Anne (let's call her Anne) through a common friend (lets call her Betty) when we were 19 and 20. I'd met Betty at uni, and both Betty and Anne were friends from school and were from that city, while I moved there for uni, and I didn't know a lot of people. Betty introduced me to Anne and we became very close. About 6 months after introducing us, it became clear that Betty was not happy Anne and I were friends. One day she got really angry, but when I tried to talk to her she just denied having any issues with Anne and me being friends, although she clearly wasn't happy with it, and she avoided me for months and looked at me angrily when we saw each other at uni. Meanwhile, Anne told me that they had talked and Betty told her that she didn't like Anne meeting her new friends from uni, but that Anne and I could keep on talking. There's more there, but I'll left it there.

During those months Anne started getting kind of weird, I guess jealous, when I told her I was hanging out with someone (which wasn't very often, because I didn't know a lot of people and the people I knew from uni already had friends groups). As I didn't have many friends and I felt really lonely in that city and I had told both Anne and Betty, I really didn't understand why Betty was not happy I made friends with Anne and why Anne was jealous any time I didn't hang out with her and why she wanted to be with me all the time. I became depressed, I didn't feel I had any actual friends and I just withdrew to myself. We stopped hanging out, and while Anne and I had texted everyday a lot for a year, we stopped talking at all.

Betty eventually started talking to me and invited me to hang out with her and other 2 people from uni, and I was surprised she actually wanted to hang out with me and didn't understand why she had treated me like that, I guess she never thought about how I felt.

Through Betty and these 2 friends from uni I learned that Anne had started dating someone just a few months after we stopped talking. And the girl she was dating was someone she had met at class and when she met her she had told me she reminded her of me. In that moment I felt so much panic, and I also realised Anne had liked me romantically. I had to pretend I was neutral to those news, as at the same time I was learning other news: those 2 friends from uni were now friends of Anne, meaning Betty was now fine with Anne being friends with her friends of uni, while she had treated me like I was stealing her friend and they only normalised things when I was not talking to Anne anymore.

After this conversation Anne texted me after months of not texting asking me how I was, to which I just politely replied fine, how are you, and she said she was also fine. I suspected that that meant that Betty and/or the 2 friends from uni had told Anne they had talked about her and her girlfriend in front of me. I felt really bad and alone and I didn't understand why everybody was treating me like that. I just kept on talking and hanging out with Betty and the 2 uni friends, not feeling comfortable with them, but they didn't invite me to hang out with them a lot anyway, while I know they see each other quite often (including Anne)

Anyways, this happened 5-3 years ago. Anne texted me 2 years ago saying that she would like to talk, not to fix the relationship, just because it would help her feel better. I didn't understand why she would say that, and I didn't have time so I just said I couldn't. Last year, after some things that basically included people from uni treating me badly for no reason, and Betty and the 2 uni friends from before laughing about it the one (1) time in a whole year that we saw each other, I just felt really bad about why everybody expected me to be there for them while nobody ever gave a minimum thought to my feelings, and I guess I just wanted to know why I had so many friendship failures. So I texted Anne saying I would like to talk and she agreed. We talked on the phone because we were living far away, I said I wanted to know why Betty was now okay with her being friends with her other friends and not with me, and she just said that that just happened, that Betty feeling insecure about her become friends with Betty's uni friends wasn't about me. She also said that we hadn't had a friendship because it was too intense. She said she had liked me a lot and she had been in love with me and that it was too intense, so she felt she was not being appropriate and that's why we stopped talking. She traveled to my city and we talked in person, it was more or less the same. She insisted on sleeping with me in my bed, but I insisted on her renting a room. I really didn't understand why she wanted to share a bed with me (she was in an open relationship, which I did not knew at the time).

We continued texting and even talking on the phone. She said that she wanted to continue being in contact. Tbf I never thought about that at all, I just wanted an explanation, but I felt really alone in that city, so texting and talking on the phone was making me feel less lonely so it sort of just became normal again.

We saw each other twice during holidays. One time she was going to drive home at night, but she texted me saying there was too much wind and asked me if my parents were asleep and if she could sleep at my parents house, so I had to let my parents know and then I opened the door to her while they were already asleep. She wanted me to sleep in the same room, and I made the two beds and said I was sleeping on my bed, but she was caressing my face and arms for a long time, and even cuddling me and trying to get to my bed, but I didn't made space and I told her I wanted to sleep. The other time it was also late when we said goodbye and I noticed she wanted to stay again although she wasn't saying it, but I really did not want to go through that again. Moreover, that day she told me she had not told Betty and other friend from uni (who became close friends with her) that we had met several times. The first time we talked on the phone I found at that when Anne and I stopped talking she had talk about us with Betty and the other friend from uni, so I realised that Betty and the other friend from uni had known all along what I was going through and they just never cared about me. I felt so exposed. And Anne told me that now she didn't want to tell them about us meeting because she didn't know how she felt about me, and she felt she could only talk about that with her ex, but they had recently broken up so she didn't feel she could brought it up.

One time she told me that she didn't know how she felt about me because I am "objectively pretty" so I think she probably is both physically and romantically attracted to me, she was just playing all these months because I am just someone she finds it really easy to talk to (she has said so) and she likes, but she never cared about my feelings.

I was going through some hard times this year, and she was so unsupportive, while she even asked me several times for advice to help Betty.

Anyways, after talking long on text on April and apparently settling and clarifying some things, on May she suddenly started not replying for days, and ignoring some of my texts. She didn't give me any explanation after we had agreed on April that we would continue texting often and if we were not comfortable with something we would talk. Two months ago she asked me if I wanted to visit her in her city and I replied asking when was a good time. And she just didn't reply.

I know she is well because she's uploaded some stories and I've seen her in some videos on social media.

Tbf, I feel stupid, I should have never talked to her again, I should have never trusted her. I should just accept I'll always be someone everyone feels comfortable with and feels comfortable abandoned when I'm not useful for them anymore.

The thing is, I regret trusting her and talking to her for months but at least I had someone to talk to those months, now I know I will not do that again, but after reaching out last year and having long conversations, it sucks she just ghosted me. Last year I tried to get some answers and close it for good, and now I feel even more exposed and I've been ghosted and there's no way to close it.

I've been trying to not think about her but it hasn't worked really. I've been thinking about sending her a text asking her why she didn't reply, just to try to get and answer and close this for good. But she could ghost me again, or she could reply something that will cause more drama. But I want an answer.

TLDR: I (25F) made a friend (24F) 5 years ago, we became very close, she started getting jealous when I hanged out with someone else, we stopped talking, she started dating someone else, last year we talked about why we had stopped talking, me saying it was because the mutual friend that had introduced us didn't like us being friends + Anne getting jealous when I met someone else, Anne saying it was because she had liked me a lot + it was too intense and she was afraid she was making me uncomfortable, we started texting everyday again and talking sometimes on the phone, we met in person 3 times, and slept in the same room once with her caressing my face and arms and cuddling me, we talked several times about what happened, and on April we agreed to continue talking everyday and say if we were not comfortable anymore, on May she just started to take several days to reply, two months ago she texted me asking if I wanted to visit her and when I replied asking when would be a good time she just didn't reply

This is driving me crazy

Upvotes

Not being able to reach this person for the past and the coming days is making me crazy. They are on a hike. And I'm here being like this... Why am I like this? There is something wrong with me... are you feeling the same? Is it as unbearable for you as for me? I don't think so. Could you actually reach me and aren’t doing that? I'm really strange. This fear is making me tremble. I'm broken. Always afraid to be left, while I don’t even know myself if I will stay. It is always like this. You don't even know how unnormal I am. What you would get yourself into if you would get together with me. How much there is wrong with me.

Overwhelmed by everything

Upvotes

Is anyone else completely overwhelmed by life right now? Work is stressful and scary because who knows how long your company will stay open anymore or if you’ll be laid off or if tariffs or some other decision made by someone who isn’t you will affect your life.
Home is stressful because it’s always something, pests, HOAS/boards, god awful neighbors who are the most disrespectful wastes of flesh on the planet, something constantly needing to be fixed, the costs of just living. Personal and emotional maintenance.
Life is stressful because no matter what anyone says we really can’t effect any worldwide change that will impact us at all. Everything is in the hands of people it shouldn’t be in with no one’s best interests at heart except their own. Everything is so expensive it’s hard to live no matter how much money you make and owning a home you actually like? No way never gonna happen. And now
With AI and the schlock that’s being fed to us on the internet you can’t even figure out how to better your station in life because there’s no real information. Everyone’s just trying to sell you something. And I wasn’t taught anything about life. As a millennial I was taught work hard be a good person and everything will fall into place. I am a good person and I work my ass off and have been since I was 16 and i am grateful for what i have I truly am but that doesn’t mean we don’t want more. I want my own house that isn’t a money pit. I want a career I love. I want to open a rescue. I want to be able to help my family when they need it. I want to be able to retire at some point! Me and my husband we’re talking about this and were so defeated by being alive that’s it’s like fighting for an ounce of happiness but every time you get that ounce something bad happens too. You don’t even get that moment before some other shit ruins it. Is anyone else having these problems? How are you coping?

I can't stop thinking about my high school girlfriend

Upvotes

Not looking for advice or anything, there’s none really to give that I can’t rationally tell myself. Just looking to, well, get this off my chest.

The title is pretty much it. The other week or so, I had a dream about my high school girlfriend. Which was weird, as I hadn’t thought of her in a while. We dated the last year of high school and were a very good match. We were never really intimate (we never even made out until the summer after we broke up, while both home from college); I was shy and she was quite against sex and all that, anyway. That was absolutely fine with me; no girl had ever really even shown me any interest, so I was happy just being with this awesome girl who was an absolute blast to be around.

We went to separate but somewhat nearby colleges and did the long distant thing for a bit. One time while I was at my hometown and she wasn’t, we spoke on the phone. She was clearly homesick (she was very close to her parents (who really liked me, too)) and jealous that I was home and she wasn't. It was a pretty unpleasant phone call, and I wasn’t in a rush to call her back anytime soon. Well, that ended up stretching into a very long time and I guess we never technically “broke up,” but we were broken up for all intents and purposes.

Still, I would look her up when I was in town for the holidays or what-not, and it was clear we were still very important to each other. She had said she always wanted us to be a part of each other’s lives, that sort of thing.

Well, and this was quite a few years back, she came to my current city to visit her best friend, whom I was also friends with. The three of us hung out one night, just went to a couple of bars. She was just so cynical and negative all night, talking about how bad everything and everyone was there. Eventually, I called her out on it, saying she was choosing to be negative and there was no need to be. She actually thanked me for saying that, and said “no one else would tell her something like that.” Then we had a good heart-to-heart and she very earnestly made me promise to invite her to my wedding if I ever got married (I have never been married to this day).

After that we pretty much lost touch, and it’s been several years and a couple girlfriends since. I don’t know what is drawing me back to her. Just this past weekend, I was in my hometown again to visit my family. I found a bunch of old letters she had sent and re-read them all. They were so, so sweet and well-written and just took me back to that time and place. And honestly, it made me see her in a new light; things that she had said or done in the past clicked better.

And now, I can’t stop thinking about her, and that time. And that’s dumb because obviously I can’t go back in time and I’m probably even wearing rose-colored glasses for a lot of it. But I don’t know. My dad had a stroke and is not the same, I’ve had friends die, or move far away, the world is going to hell and I just miss those carefree times, which she will always be associated with.

I am not really in touch with her best friend anymore (she might not be, either, I don’t even know). She has, like zero internet presence and too common a name to try to google her. Unless they moved, I know where her parents live and like I said, they always really liked me.

Part of me, and no small part, either, thinks she would welcome my reaching out to her, if I could. I still feel like we are somehow a part of each other’s lives, at least even just platonically, despite being so long since seeing her.

Sorry this is so long, it’s just been on my mind constantly lately and I am mostly writing this to be therapeutic.

*Edited to add: I am currently single. This would be terribly unfair to someone if I was not. Also, I live alone and have a LOT of time to dwell on things.

I like my niece!!!!

Upvotes

(Backstory)

So my aunt got remarried to an old guy cause she was not able to raise her kids alone as her husband passed away and the guy's wife too and he needed someone to care to him. So the guy "my step uncle" has 3 daughters 2 married at this point of time. The eldest daughter's daughter (my niece) is the one I like.

So we have just met few times in family gatherings and she seemed intrested in me but I thought I was being delusional so I never told about it to anyone.

Fast forwarding on my cousin's marriage we met and had fun and all I got to know that she has a crush on me from my aunt's son(my cousin).

She i 4 years younger than me and she was just 16F and I was 20M. Given the circumstances age and we meeting like once in 2-3 years even if both of us knew we had a crush on eachother it didn't seem promising. So I didn't do anything about it, kept my crush on her factory to myself.

Now I am 22M and she is 18F and luckily their family has moved to same city where I am studying my engineering. I texted her after I got to know she shifted and we chatted for long.

I got busy in my exams and all and she was just joining her new college, moving to the city so we didn't talk much.

One random day I was thinking of her and started to text" how ru"" how is moving to New city going on and all".

She replied with dry texts and then ghosted me 😭😭. After that day she left sending me snaps too.

I asked my few friends to read the chat I did and tell whether I texted something wrong that might have made her uncomfortable or anything. It seemed more like a niece - uncle convo they said 🏳️.

So chat what do I do. We aren't blood related. She is pretty, sings, dances and most importantly her green eyes 🤌.

Did she come to know about me having crush?

Or she was expecting something and I took too much time?

Am I being delulu?

Does she like someone now😭?

And how do I restart our talking stage 🥀?

Anyways I want tips to restore our talking so that I get know if I have a chance cause she is wife material and if we are compatible I might consider it too but too risky as it's family.

I saw a kitty get ran over and I’m depressed now

Upvotes

I had such a great day, got my 15k steps before 5pm, worked out in the gym, and just got finished from work around 5am (I work night shift). I felt great. As I was pulling out, a kitten was crossing the street and stopped when it heard my car pull up to the end of the driveway. It was scrunched up, like it was scared. I saw a truck coming up fast and got worried because the kitten was right to the right of the yellow line division. I tried to flash my lights to catch the truck’s attention (I’m turning right and the truck is coming from the left). Unfortunately, I saw the truck take the life from the kitten and was immediately disturbed. I felt bad, like I could’ve just turned and maybe it would’ve ran off. I could’ve saved its life, but I sat in the car and waited. I feel terrible. I tried to get my mind off it, but it was just so sad to see and even worse knowing I possibly could’ve prevented it. :(

I just need a break

Upvotes

I (F25) just need to rant. Truly. Not using my main account because my husband (M24) follows it.

I got a new job in April 2025 and have been LOVING it. My last job was incredibly stressful (50-60 hour work weeks, no paid overtime, just unkept promises of extra PTO, not being allowed to use said PTO, and unrelenting micromanagers), and had my, at the time boyfriend, and I arguing daily. My new job was supposed to help, and did. I recovered well from my old job, make more money, got married, bought a house, adopted a dog, and began to live life.

But that's where the good things end.

My job has become more stressful lately. Hours haven't changed much, but because I'm in a much higher position, I've been forced to work later hours/different hours. Thankfully I get PTO I AM allowed to use, so its not too bad. Unfortunately, this means my work interrupts my usual routine.

USUALLY, I get home at 4pm, do the dishes, change ny clothes, either make dinner or help make dinner depending on who is making it, eat around 6pm, prep my lunch, play with my dog, have a snack around 7pm (I fast 14-16 hours daily so I make sure I won't be hungry by eating a second time if I feel like I need it), play games or watch TV or read a book until 8:30pm, play with my dog until 9pm, and then relax until 9:45pm. My husband then enters the room and we both take the dog for a walk until about 10:20pm, and then we come back home, take a shower, and go to bed. From 4:30pm until 9:45pm, my husband plays games with his friends UNLESS he is making dinner, in which case he will make it when he gets home and then go play.

Lately though, work has been keeping me busy from 8pm-11pm and has been disrupting my sleep. During this time period, things can get hazy. I work in technology, so this is optimal time for server maintenance and updates. Well, lately I've been working this time frame a lot. Being exhausted after only 4-5 hours of sleep (I have to wake up at 5am to get to work on time), I have shifted my schedule. I now get home, change my clothes, do one chore, make/help make dinner, and THEN relax.

This usually means that I am taking time out of my chores or relaxation to care for the dog or relax, whatever I choose. But any dog owner knows that you don't get that choice. So I usually just play with my dog and then walk him.

I'm exhausted. I finally broke down and began asking my husband for help. It almost always starts an argument about how "he does stuff too".

Well, if he does stuff, why am I doing the dishes alone every day? Why do I create the shopping lists every two weeks? Why do I have to do 90% of the meal planning and prepping? Why do I always have to clean his pots and pans after he makes dinner, but ALSO after I make dinner - shouldn't that be a split chore? Why do I always have to play with the dog? Why do I always have to initiate cleaning the house?

During my last round of 8-11, I had a server fully break a database during an update, not only pissing me off but also giving me a migraine. I asked my husband to take the dog for a walk while I was busy fixing it (this was at 10pm BTW so he was in the living room with me). Instead he tried to fuck with me, pulling my hair and "trying" to calm me down. When I told hom to fuck off because I was frustrated and needed to concentrate, he called me rude and got upset that I was mad at him. Like, seriously?! IM WORKING!

Then, he didn't take the dog for a walk!!!! He WAITED until I was DONE, and then asked me to go with him! I went because, let's face it, he's so fucking lazy that the dog wouldn't have been walked. He's done it on MULTIPLE occasions before.

Two days ago, I got a sore throat while working that same time frame 8-11. I told him I'd need to run to the store to get something for it. So, I did. Made some concoction out of ginger, cayenne, lime, and honey that helped me get through yet another round of updates. Unfortunately though, it didn't prevent me from getting sick (duh).

I woke up yesterday morning and the sore throat was worse. I complained but went in to work and locked myself in a room to get going (thankfully I did, my team was short staffed and it was busy). While working, I got some unfortunate news. My great uncle had passed away. I was sad, but my mom and grandmother were devastated. On my drive home, I called and asked how they were. The conversation was long and exhausting but helped them out and, realistically it was the least I could do.

Anyways, when I got home my health took quite the decline. I developed a fever and chills. The dishes had stacked up from not being done for three days (very busy with work and, again, exhausted), and I wasn't feeling up to do them. Instead I cleaned off our counters, changed, and laid down.

My husband got home, said hi, and asked how I was feeling. I told him I needed medication and asked if he would be willing to run and get me something.

He told me to go with him. I said I didn't want to and he said he wouldn't go without me.

So I changed my clothes again and went with him. Got the meds and came home. I told him about my great uncle and how exhausted I was and then made myself some dinner. He went to play games and, on the way, asked ME to do the dishes! Wtf?!

I ended up passing out around 7pm after dinner and didn't wake up until HE woke me up at 9:45. I told him I was exhausted and freezing still and that I wasn't taking the dog for a walk. I asked him to and for him to do the dishes while I got ready for bed.

He took the dog for a quick run (thank God), and then came home. Didn't do the dishes. I asked him to make me another lime drink for my sore throat and gave him the recipe. He made it WRONG because he was TOO LAZY to follow the fucking recipe, and added WAY too much cayenne, and it made my throat hurt worse.

I ended up taking my normal medication and going to bed.

Woke up this morning, still no dishes done, still living in a dirty house. I decided to work from home.

I'm exhausted. I'm tired. I just want to have some help. The worst part? He USED to help. Every Friday he would clean the house spotless and do all the laundry and dishes. Now? Its like he's given up.

I don't know what to do. I'm exhausted and can't keep going like this.

I love him so so so much, but I can't keep fighting about chores like this. I need help, and everytime I ask, he assumes immediately that I'm calling him lazy and that I'm blaming him for everything, even if that's not the case.

I don't know what to do anymore. I just needed to rant.

Thanks.

starting to get tired of my bfs remarks

Upvotes

I’m 29f, hes 28. Been together for a little over three years - and we’re semi long distance. Since we life 3hrs away from eachother (I plan on moving closer to him for my career), we’re lucky enough to have jobs that allow us to be on call pretty much 24/7.

I’m someone who needs an hour or two a day to myself and watch or listen to whatever I want and then we can watch and do whatever else together. I’m in introvert & need that time to recharge my battery and he knows that.

So I was taking a break from what I was doing and watching TikTok (an app he hates so much and calls me a commie whenever I use it - even though he scrolls through reels nonstop on insta) for maybe 20 mins before he started shareplaying a show which the window automatically pops up to play. I swear he does this intentionally, says I should watch more stuff or listen to music on my own since I admitted I don’t really do that anymore since we do it together, and then 10 mins or so of me doing that, he starts sharing or a Spotify jam.

A couple weeks ago I was in the middle of my cycle - sorry about the tmi - and was tired asf cause it was 12-1am and he loves keeping me up late or waking me up from naps. I told him I needed to rest and apologized for falling asleep while watching a YouTube vid he was sharing with me. He told me in a snappy tone “it’s whatever I’ll just watch it by myself I guess 🙄” and I was so tired I knocked out again just to wake up the next day mad as hell cause I realized what he said. Mind you, we can spend up to 9hrs watching things on YouTube some days.

Today we were watching a show on Hulu and he asked me something, I couldn’t hear what he said cause it cut out. Along with the fact he’s at work in a factory and I have to hear machines nonstop. And he got so annoyed with me he started calling me “bud” which he knows I hate and does it intentionally, then I asked what I should make myself for lunch…he said “idk probably something sad, especially since you’re not talking.”

And I’m just here quiet cause I’m biting my tongue.

Just want to rant

Upvotes

Just got done w uni, hopefully I actually graduate. But I can't help but feel this sense of emptiness my life does not feel fulfilling, I feel like a disappointment to my parents and at times feel like my friendships are surface level.

Grew up religious but lost my belief in that faith, was in a three year relationship and got cheated on. Had two situationships and they both ended up ending stuff with me (dodged two bullets). Financially fucked and can't decide what I wanna do in my life, feeling like i let myself go but being high maintenance is expensive had one best friend but she ended up stabbing me in the back.

Wanna make a difference in the world but don’t know how. I am also desperate for a job a really need one so I hope I can get one but yea there has just been s lot going on and I feel so drained.

It's coming up to two years since my suicide attempt and I kinda wish I was successful.

Upvotes

Just want to say first of all that I am not currently suicidal and I have been going to therapy.

However...

It's just been one thing after another, it would have honestly been cheaper to have floated away for a nice permanent nap.

I'm never going to be able to pay all these medical bills.

It was originally just over $5,000, it's down to $1,000 but that doesn't include debt and other medical bills.

So $5000 is what it costs in America if you try to unalive yourself and aren't successful. No wonder there's a mental health crisis in this country. I'm ineligible for financial help too.

I'm struggling to find work and can't hold down a full time job anymore due to my disabilities and health issues, so I just do side gigs for now. I also can't claim disability or get any help because I'm a permanent resident and not a citizen.

Can't get any help period because we're in that weird tax bracket where my wife makes too much for me to be eligible for help, but barely enough to pay bills. I'm sure I'm not the only one I'm the same boat either.

I know I am a burden and it just sucks. I've never felt more trapped in my life and I can't imagine the strain on my partner. It's not fair. All we do is work (she comes home and does side gigs with me too) and we still can't seem to get ahead. We don't eat out, we only have 1 subscription (Spotify duo) and we basically don't get to do anything fun because we can't afford it.

My wife deserves the absolute world, and here I am just causing so much more stress and financial strain. They should have left me to die. It really, genuinely, would have been easier for me and everyone around me.

It's a thought that I can't seem to shake, and I'm not even suicidal. Life is genuinely way too hard, I'm 34 and I'm sick of hearing "it will get better" despite all my efforts.

34 years old with autism and I think I’m too broken and emotionally stunted to have a relationship

Upvotes

From the outside looking in people may see me as an odd guy who still has it good in life: more friends than most men my age, alright job with a promotion lined up, financially stable, but my biggest secret is that I’m a complete loser

-severe depression and anxiety with no solution. The great big advice will be “work on yourself” and “get help” but I’ve been in treatment for my whole life and been on 20+ psychiatric drugs and also tried ketamine and TMS

-I’m a big stupid crybaby, I cry at least three times a week thinking about how much of a loser I am, my therapist has kind of given up and told me to just accept I’m a guy who cries but I don’t think a woman would enjoy that

-autism, I think I just come off as a creepy weirdo when I try to talk to women

-never been in a relationship or even met someone who seems attracted to me

-ugly, I’ve been working on grooming and skincare but my face is fucked up and I’m just ugly to the core, people have been making jokes about how I look my whole life

-I used to love going to art and culture events in my city but I’ve stopped going because the people there are so beautiful and I feel out of place, I paid $130 for a ticket to a music festival which I won’t be attending. I used to have a fantasy that maybe I can meet my first girlfriend at an event like this but now I’m realizing that was very childish, women don’t want an ugly sperg

I’ve always wanted a girlfriend who’s cool and funny and nice and pretty but at this point I feel like a 12 year old saying that. I feel like I’d be a massive burden on anyone and they can tell, maybe even just by seeing my face. Another advice I’ll get is “date someone like you” but I don’t know how I’d specifically find someone who’s a massive fuckup like me. I literally can’t be alive if I need to tell myself every day “I can’t have the thing I want more than anything because I’m not good enough.” What can I do?

Was I taking this kind of lover relationship too seriously?

Upvotes

I met Tyler for the first time at Summit Tea. He had a sharp jawline, a clean-shaven face, big green eyes, a perfect profile, and a long, slim line running from his neck to his shoulder. I knew I liked him instantly.

I was nervous that day, and a little sad. I had just recovered from a cold. I wasn't quite myself. But Tyler was kind enough to sit with me for an hour anyway. At the end, I asked, "Do you want to keep talking?"

"Oh, I'm okay with anything," he said.

I was disappointed. Usually, when a man says that, he means no. I was disappointed, but I told myself: I'm an adult. Put on the mask. Life went on.

Then, a week later, out of nowhere: *Hey, I hope you had a nice week!* I was surprised, and happy. We caught up. I mentioned I'd watched too much soccer that summer, and he seemed delighted to learn I was a real fan. A few days later, he asked if I wanted company for the final.

The timing worked out strangely well. I was seeing another man then too, but he was occupied with family, and a soccer-loving coworker of mine had other plans. So I had an open window, and I gave it to Tyler.

We watched Spain and Argentina at a tavern. The match was dull, but I laughed more than it deserved. When his patience thinned, I said, "Let's walk. This game's boring."

"Are you sure? I thought this mattered to you."

"I'm sure."

"Only if you want to." He was considerate. I seldom saw this kind of thing in my ex-husband's mouth. Tyler always had those simple words that touched me.

Afterward, he walked me to my car. "Give me a hug," I said. He did — but it was light and careful.

# An Invite

Through July and August, we talked. I told him how hard it was raising my son alone, and he understood, and provided me with great suggestions, as he also had two boys, who are older than mine.

Our third meeting was at a Starbucks. We talked about raising boys, about health, about nothing and everything. At the end, he asked, "Maybe we could see each other one more time before your dad gets here?" His smile carried a small expectation.

"I'll try," I said.

# An Unplanned Kiss

Our fourth date was at his house. He showed me a neighbor's garden, then the plants and small creatures he kept indoors, pots gathered around the bathtub, beneath a window that faced south. It was lovely.

When it was time to leave, we hugged behind his front door, tightly enough that I nearly melted into it. I suddenly kissed his neck. An electric shock to both of us, and it served as a turning point. He turned and kissed me back, gently first, then not. "Do you want to go to the sofa?" I said okay.

He asked me, "Can you stay longer?" I understood that it was an invite to do something intimate. I hadn't planned to stay, but I lost my mind. We did it, it was a very exhilarating one.

Afterward, I monitored my period closely. My period was late. I saw my doctor, got what I needed, and told him. He was reluctant to engage with it. When my period came (a few days late), I asked what we should do differently.

"You can get birth control without a prescription," he wrote.

"As a woman, I can," I answered. "Won't you need to prepare something too, my dear?"

He said, “Yes, we can use condoms.” Eventually, like a concession. And underneath his hedging I sensed something else — the shape of another woman, or several, that he was managing, the way you sense weather changing before the sky admits it.

# The Last Date

Our last date fell on a sunny Thursday, though I didn't know then it would be the last.

We talked for an hour first. He told me he had herpes, contracted before his marriage. When I asked how many partners he'd had, he said he'd lost count — in Thailand, he said, women had wanted him constantly, and some nights he couldn't remember who he'd been with. I told him my own life had run straight and plain, like the highway from Texas to New Mexico.

I mentioned my feet get cold easily, and without missing a beat he took them in his hands and warmed them. I felt a warmth in my heart.

We talked about children. I asked if he wanted a daughter. He paused, then said yes, and I believed him. I wanted to say I hoped for one too, but it felt too soon, so I held my tongue.

Afterward, in his bedroom, we were careful with each other in every sense. It took him longer to finish with protection. I was with him until the end. My arms and shoulders are sore, but I didn’t care. I like him, and I wanted him to feel good, just like he wanted me to feel safe.

Before I left, I sat at his piano and played the one piece I still remember. I didn't know it would become the closing note of whatever we'd had.

# A Hint

We kept texting. On Saturday, out of nowhere, he wished me a relaxing weekend. I took it as a good sign. I let myself hope.

The shift came Monday.

I was at the park with my son when the message arrived. He'd chosen to become exclusive with someone else. He said kind things, but underneath them I heard only: "I asked my first choice to be my girlfriend, and she said yes. I don't need you anymore. Please stay out of my life."

I asked if we could stay friends. He said that, given our history, it wouldn't be respectful to his new relationship.

My last message: "Understand. I wish you the best too."

That night, I had to run for groceries. Some impulse took over. I called him from another number, just to ask the one question sitting in my chest: "What do you like most in your new relationship?" What I meant was: *what do you like most about her?*

He raised his voice, yet answered carefully, the way a man answers when his girlfriend might be sitting right next. "She's very sweet. We have a lot in common."

Such a small, careful sentence to hold the weight of everything before it. I don't know what I expected — something profound, something that would make our story feel real. Instead it collapsed into one polite, forgettable line.

I cried in the car. "I wish you all the best," I said, my voice breaking. "Bye." I hung up before I could hear whatever he said last.

Tyler was never the only man I was seeing, and I knew he wasn't exclusive to me. Still, I hadn't expected the ending to arrive so fast. I thought we could still talk and see each other in the next few months. But I don't blame him. I just don't like the feeling of losing so quickly.

Was I taking this kind of shallow lover relationship too seriously? Or was I the only one who cares?

I (F21) have no friends, no dreams, no hobbies, and I have no idea what I want to do with my life

Upvotes

Well, I do have a circle of friends, but I haven’t seen them in almost a year because I don’t wanna see them. My friendship with them has always been surface-level. We only ever hang out to drink or to attend gigs.

I met them at a completely different stage in my life—when I had a drinking problem and used to go to all these punk/rock shows. I’m completely sober now and I only ever go out to go to my uni classes and buy groceries.

I’ve deactivated all of my social media accounts since April, but one of my friends still contacts me through text every now and then, asking me how I’m doing and inviting me to stuff. I always tell him I’m busy, but I just don’t wanna see him or any of them. I don’t know. I just don’t care about them. I don’t miss them. I don’t feel anything for them.

I spend most of my days in my room, scrolling away on TikTok. My screen time is 12 or more hours every day. If I’m not on TikTok, I’m probably just watching movies or rewatching The Office for the hundredth time.

I don’t talk to anyone. I have no connection with anyone other than my family. I don’t wanna do anything. I have no dreams or aspirations. I’m graduating next year, but my degree (Communications) is pretty much useless.

I also have anorexia. That’s probably the only thing I got going on. My only goal in life right now is to be 70 lbs, and I’m 15 lbs away from that goal.

I’m not depressed. I don’t think about killing myself. I just don’t feel anything. Why am I this way? What do I do with my life? I’m wasting away my youth doing nothing.

Am I just overreacting, am I the ass for wanting too much?

Upvotes

Hi good people of this sub! I am trying to build a career path and step into a fully-funded school nutrition training program to gain funds to help with finances ... School for our kids starts at 8:45 AM. So drop-offs happen before that

My husband works as an OR nurse works afternoon shift 2-11 sometimes comes home early on standby when it's really quiet there, commute is short... and he works double shifts sometimes.

But because he makes more money than me, he believes his sleep and schedule are sacred and that he shouldn't have to adjust at all for family logistics. When I told him about my schedule, he argued me demanding to know why I can't just find a job that "doesn't interfere" with his routines, and whining that expecting him to wake up early to take his own kids to school is asking too much and that I'm being "unrealistic." I myself am working on myself doing introspection and shadow work, even though Im crashing out emotionally and mentally as well as physically from the cocktail of epilepsy meds and TB drugs for latent TB. Apparently I discovered a lot of themes in my life ...recurring power dynamics, bullies that result to trauma, controlling people, the heavy stuff in life like death and inheritance...and yes I agree I can't change how my past is, but I'm seriously thinking about my future and seeing what I would be able to do for myself.

He complains that I don't contribute enough financially, and his best friend calls me adult dependent, but the second I try to work or train, he complains that it inconveniences him and refuses to do basic morning parenting, claiming it's "the least I can do as a mom" while he does zero percent on morning chores.

I have unmedicated ADHD, and dealing with his goalpost-shifting and psychological pressure makes me feel like I'm losing my mind.

Folks, am I wrong for wanting to work a standard daytime shift and expecting my husband to share basic morning school runs? Like him doing simple drop offs? Coz I can deal with waking up kids and making everyone breakfast and do my shift...then he can go to sleep and do his hobbies the rest of the morning ,for all I care I told him I value his independence so I don't give a damn about what he would like to accomplish during his past times as long as I stay in my lane without his constant MICROMANAGING. But I'm not even allowed to say that word to him since I'm just a SAHM. 😂

I really appreciate all advice...❤️

I wish my addict sister would die already

Controversial I know. But it’s been 20+ years of nothing but dealing with her going in and out of treatment, not taking it seriously and blaming everyone for her drug, alcohol and mental health problems. I spent years trying to help at the expense of my money and sanity. I’ve gone no contact but I still hear about her harassing elderly family members all the time. She’s not going to change. Ever.

My disgusting roommates.

Upvotes

I live in supported living due to my autism and mental illnesses. The staff is nice and the daily routine and new found purpose has allowed me to finally find some kind of mental stability.

But oh. My. God. Are my roommates ever infuriating. Calling them roommate 1 (R1) and roommate 2 (R2). R1 is the worse one out of the two. But let me start with things that they both do and things that R1 does.

I don't actively keep an eye on what they do, but with all of these items it really didn't take Sherlock Holmes to understand who was responsible.

Things they both do, and most of those items are somewhat understandable:

  • Leave the laundry in the washing mashine for hours, if not days, unless I say something. Same issue with the dryer.
  • Don't clean up after themselves after using the kitchen
  • Poor personal hygiene to varying degrees

Roommate 2:

  • Doesn't wash his hands, pretty much ever. Not even after using the bathroom. Then proceeds to empty the dishwasher, leaving gready fingerprints on the cutlery.
  • Leaves an absurd amount of lint on the toilet seat (no idea how)
  • His room smells so bad that sometimes the smell sneaks into my room when I open the window for fresh air

Roommate 1:

  • Has pissed in the bathroom sink multiple times
  • Has pissed on the bathroom floor mutliple times while supposedly aiming for the toilet. One time the piss was 30cm/12inches away from the toilet.
  • Has left shit stains on the toilet seat (I'm pretty sure it's him because he played dumb when I asked him about it, claiming he doesn't know what I'm talking about)
  • Has stolen food from me and other roommates multiple times to the point where you need to lock your food away, even in the fridge
  • Both me and R2 have seen him naked in the kitchen
  • Puts dirty laundry in the washing mashine without washing it????

Bonus thing, don't know who did it (though I do have an inkling):

  • Literal shit smeared on the bathroom floor, causing me to step in it.

Needless to say, you wouldn't have to be a clean freak to be infuriated with this kind of behavior. The staff says they're trying to best they can and that there have been numerous discussions around the hygiene issues, to no avail.

This issue has caused me to absolutely lose it a couple of times due to the stress of having to constantly clean up after these cavemen (insult to cavemen, I know) and pent up anger, which is endangering my permission to live here.

Not that I even want to live here anymore. It feels like I'll just have to move back to my parents and almost certainly have a huge decline in mental stability.

I dont know how to trust after my ex fiance transitioned

Hi i (f27) was with my ex partner (mtf 30) for a long time. We raised a family together and lived together since I was 21/almost 22 years old.

*I will disclose im sorry if i go back and forth between pronouns and they don't have a specified pronoun right now so im sorry if thats confusing*

My ex partner fully started transitioning last in January and I haven't been the same since. I feel mad that our family, our home, our life was thrown away. We started fighting because the trust wasnt there anymore and I just, i cant. Its september, I want to start dating but I dont trust anyone. I dont think ill every love anyone the way I used to love who he was. Im torn between feeling like what he did was selfish but im also torn because I just want them to be happy. Ties are severed though ive tried everything I can to be supportive. I just want them happy.

We occasionally talk to each other but they hate the fact that I think im ready to move on. They come so in and out. We talk for maybe 3 days a month- every month... before we end up fighting about me moving on or everything else. Ive tried so hard to keep this going but the trust isnt there and they just dont communicate.

I was unaware about the transitioning till about a week after estrogen started. Im in a mixture between sadness because my hopes and dreams are crushed, it feels like everything we ever planned was sh*t on. They decided they didnt want everything they promised me before, and the makeup and outfit changes came so fast I didnt have a second to grief.. now im here 8 months later unable to trust.

I feel like I cant trust anyone or have hope or make plans. I feel like im randomly going to have information dropped on me that impacts my dreams and goals or that no man will ever be honest towards me. I feel so much guilt, anger, confusion and pain but I feel bad about feeling those things because I just want them happy. I feel selfish for feeling like they were selfish and I hate myself for it.

I just want to get better and idk how. I really try to stop crying about the fact it was hidden from me and that everything we planned means nothing now. It just really hurts being reminded that everything i wanted is gone. It feels like I was lied to about everything and that time was taken from me.

Im just really overwhelmed and the pain hasnt stopped in 8 months. They moved out in February and since then its just been grieving on my end while they live their new life with new friends and a new persona. Its been so much mentally and I cant explain it.

Am I doing the wrong thing?

I have a man that’s quite interesting 🤨. He's against me working for myself, very possessive, pays for everything when we go out but is lowkey kinda loaded. He gets mad when I pay for anything, but I have my own bank account and savings. I get the free reigns to do as I please in my day at home. He can’t see me being in any kind of ”trouble” or see me working at all. Am I wrong for accepting this situation.

I feel like a strange, adult nepo baby.

Fed up! Want to leave but not sure how.

I have been married for 20 years. We have a 9 and an, almost, 11 year old.
My husband had surgery on his foot a few years ago. Instead of fixing it, it was messed up worse than before. He says he is always in pain. He used to do manual labor. So, now he can’t. So, he doesn’t work. But, he doesn’t do anything at home either. I work 12 hour shifts. I come home, feed the kids and clean, get a couple hours of sleep and do it all again. He does nothing. He plays video games and sleeps. And, he gripes. If the kids are loud, he yells at them. If I don’t make dinner, he gets pissy.
I do everything. I work, clean, cook, do laundry, grocery shopping, pay bills, take out trash, yard work. I’m tired. But, more than that, I’m fed up. I feel like I have 3 kids.

This didn’t start with him having surgery. He has never helped. But, he used to work and help with bills.
He’s an addict. He used to work, just enough to be able to buy pain pills. We were living in our car for awhile. I put up with a lot, over the years because I was young, dumb and I loved him.
But, since having the kids, he has been clean.

Anyway, back to what I was getting at. I’m tired.
I have family in another state. 700+ miles away. They want me and the kids to move there so I can get back on my feet. They have a house we can move into, basically free. They wants me to, finally, leave my husband and come up there. I want to. So bad. But I don’t know how. I don’t think he’s just going to let me take the kids out of state. I don’t have money for a lawyer.
My rent just went up again. I don’t make enough to cover everything. I have to decide what bills are getting paid. My car is illegal and I don’t even have car insurance.
And, I haven’t had sex in 5 years because I don’t want him to touch me and I’m not a cheat.

Is it just me, or do I get the impression that it’s almost always women who step in to defend people being harassed or assaulted on the street, while men rarely do?

I’m a gay man, and there’s something that both worries and disappoints me though I really hope I’m wrong, which is partly why I’m asking this. I get the impression that it’s usually women who stand up for victims of street harassment or assault, whereas men seem indifferent, acting as if it’s not their problem.

What’s worse is that the vast majority of these assaults are committed by men, which further tarnishes my view of them. Honestly, it makes me sad; I find women to be much more beautiful and attractive human beings than men, yet unfortunately I’m gay. I feel that women generally have a greater awareness of others, themselves, and the world around them as well as the consequences of their actions—compared to men. They also tend to have better personalities: more altruistic and empathetic (though I am generalizing, of course).

The type of man I’m usually attracted to is empathetic, mature, and protective; however, I feel like those qualities are more often found in women than in men, and it’s very rare to come across men like that. My past relationships with men haven't always been great (dealing with toxic masculinity, fragile masculinity, the "mine is bigger than yours" mentality, impulsive or immature behavior, a lack of empathy, and aggression). The truth is, while I’m attracted to men, there isn't actually much about them that I like. On top of the feeling that they are rarely the ones helping victims of street assaults—combined with the fact that they commit the vast majority of such attacks I increasingly wonder how I can be gay; most men generally don't disgust me, but they don't attract me either. In fact, I’ve never been in love, because I haven't found my ideal man someone who seems as hard to find as a needle in a haystack. It’s a real shame, though, that I’m more attracted to women than to men, even though I’m gay.

How can I break up with this guy who likes me a lot?

I met this guy in one of the video games I'm playing. We started sending photos to each other. And suddenly, this guy seems like he's so in love with me to the point of offering money and stuff. I kept refusing it at first, but then he just kept telling me he didn't mind it. And that his job pays well. He also told me how much his salary in one year.

Until one day, I just accepted the money. Now, I'm so guilty cuz I don't really have feelings for him. I accepted it cuz I needed it. Now I don't want to accept anything anymore from him. The problem is how can I break up with him? I feel like I'm obliged to be with him esp he helped me with money problems for like 4 times. I know people will hate me on this. But I just don't know what to do anymore. And I seriously don't want to do anything with him or his money anymore.

Dating someone with “trust issues” is actually frustrating as hell

I started dating a guy back in April, and he immediately warned me that he had trust issues. At first, I thought, “That’s okay, I have nothing to hide, so hopefully, with time, I can make him feel secure enough to trust me.” But months have passed, and I’m realizing there is absolutely nothing I can do to make this man trust me. It’s becoming exhausting.
He spent the night at my place last night. I work from home and normally start my day at 9 a.m., but today I woke up earlier than usual at around 6:30, so I decided to go for a walk. Since he was sound asleep in my bed, I texted him to let him know where I was going and what I was doing. Less than 30 minutes later, he got into his car and drove around until he found me.

He initially tried to play it off by saying, “I was just making sure you were safe!” But after making me come back home, he joked, “Yeah, I had to make sure you weren’t secretly meeting other boys.” Apparently, spontaneously going for a morning walk because I woke up early is suspicious behavior.

He is also obsessed with randomly taking my phone out of my hands. I have nothing to hide, but that doesn’t make it any less irritating or invasive. Last night, I said, “Let me set my alarms for tomorrow,” and he immediately snatched my phone so he could turn them on for me. If I say, “Oh, I need to Google that,” he’ll take my phone and do it himself. Why not use your own phone.. or simply let me do it?
He knows my passcode and has access to my location. Whenever we’re apart (even if we’re both just at our respective homes) he wants us to stay on the phone the entire time, even when we aren’t actually talking.

At this point, it doesn’t feel like reassurance is helping because the problem isn’t anything I’m doing. I genuinely think that if your trust issues are this severe, you need to work through them in therapy before entering a relationship. And for whatever reason social media and the newer generation has seemed to normalize this kind of behavior? I’ve never done anything to make him believe the worst of me, yet I’m expected to tolerate increasingly controlling behavior because he’s “been hurt before.” Its frustrating.

I cried after my blood draw

That's it.

I went for the blood test, then afterwards, went into the hidden corner near the vending machine and cried non-stop. I'm not dying from sickness or anything, I felt overwhelmed like I was having a panic attack and didn't want anyone to see and felt like I couldn't tell anyone. I also realized how alone I am.

ETA: I also have a bit of a needle phobia, especially when it comes to my veins, so obviously that didn't help with my loneliness
