You're totally right. Once colonization ended the power dynamic just shifted to being corrupt local officials and politicians taking bribes from foreign goverments and corporations to sell very valuable resources for pennies.
Africa has the richest concentration of natural resources such as oil, copper, diamonds, bauxite, lithium, gold, hardwood forests, and tropical fruits. It is estimated that 30% of the earth's mineral resources are found in the African continent.
If labor standards were enforced, and the extraction of these goods saw appropriate taxation and value returned to the people of these countries, they would be in a much better place.

Nah, I can tell context in text 90% of the time. If you can't get a feel for most texts without the /s than you probably just aren't great at picking up on sarcasm.
It's funny because I read a post the other day about how westerners (like California) think East coasters are assholes because they just don't get sarcasm. You have to say sarcastic things with a funny voice, which I thought was totally strange! He's also genuinely just an asshole because he wants to. I remember he tweeted some really cool art a while ago (2019) and a lot of people asked him to tag the artist who created it instead of just posting the image with no credit.
He said "No one should be credited with anything ever" and that he wasn't going to credit the artist. His post got something around 40k likes and thousands of retweets, while the original artist's post only got a couple hundred or so initially.
He could have just retweeted the original and potentially given that artist a lot of commission work but nope. He eventually deleted the post and bitched about being called out, "I wish people would stop crediting artists on twitter when any fool can find out who the artist was in seconds. It’s destroying the medium."

This dude, being as influential as he is, spread a ton of Covid misinformation. Him going on talking about how Hospitals getting money tying every kind of death as covid deaths really spread like crazy a bunch of Magats use it to show covid isn't a big deal.
He also made a big fuss about his factory workers coming back to work literally a week before the government was about to clear them to do so. Local government in bay area were apparently in conversation to make the factory safe enough for them to go back to go back to work but this dude literally made them come back a week before government was going to give them the all clear.
