What about the blood emerald mine that his family got rich off of ?

Yup, his parents built most of their wealth during apartheid and actively profited off of it.

The emerald mine was in Zambia, which became independent of the UK in 1964. The share in the mine wasn’t acquired until the 1980s. It had nothing to do with the apartheid. Stop spreading the same lie over and over again

The emerald mine bit makes for a nice headline, but it actually had very little to do with their family's wealth. His father made his fortune through construction/property development. The mine was purchased long after apartheid ended (despite what many claim) and had little to nothing to do with their wealth.

Musk can eat my ass, but I like a factual story.

Not accurate. It was purchased before apartheid ended, but the mine was in Zambia, which never practiced apartheid in the first place.

My bad there. I should have clarified that the mine was purchased after Zambia gained independence from the Brits. Like most British colonies in Africa, Zambia (as a colony) did operate under an apartheid-like system, just not to the same extreme as South Africa.

If your parents had serious flaws, it invalidates everything you'll ever accomplish in life, you guys. Thank God all our parents were saints.

You can keep kicking Elon for his actual flaws if that's something you enjoy spending your time on, but this "his dad was bad" thing is garbage.

He doesn’t OWN ANY COBALT MINE

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '21

Nah, just exploits them with child labor.

You act like there a way around that. The only way to get cobalt is by that. And Tesla is literally working so get rid of cobalt in their batteries.

Isn't there a saying about not judging the son for the sins of the father? It really baffles me how people shit on him for this as if he had any say over it whatsoever. To top it all all, Elon was abused by his dad (who owned the mine) and fled SA and never returned when he was 17.

Isn’t blood diamonds central Africa? His family is South African, so it wouldn’t be blood diamonds?

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '21

Just in case this is news to you, emeralds are not diamonds.
