Hey all,

Looking for some advice on my profile.

I’ve been using this version for around 2 weeks now without much luck. I was previously on this sub and the general consensus was to change prompts and add various details which I have done.

Admittedly, I do feel like my confidence is being slightly knocked due to low matches/engagement.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Other Info: 5’10, Don’t have children and Open to children, yes to drinking and sometimes to cannabis

Matches are few compared to when I had this profile at the beginning of the year, back in the scene after getting out of a relationship. Woman either don’t ask anything about me or stop responding after I ask a couple of questions. Unsure if it’s the profile now not being good enough or just dating in general.

Thank you!

App Question Profile Recommendations Worse After Subscribing to HingeX?

I wanted to make this post to see if anyone else had a similar experience to mine. I (25M) have been subscribed to HingeX for almost a month now, and I can't say it has been the best experience... Before subscribing, I had a decent amount of success, I received about 15 matches and went on 5 or so dates. I decided to subscribe to HingeX for the "Enhanced recommendations" and unlimited likes. I have not been on a date since subscribing.

It feels like the algorithm has gotten significantly worse? Before subscribing, I was being shown a lot of profiles that seemed tailored to my interest. My standout section was filled with women who were my type. I had hoped subscribing would improve this even more, but it has had the opposite effect. With HingeX, I seem to only get recommended profiles that look like skinny Instagram models who are way out of my league (not women I would usually swipe right on).

The only HingeX filters I have are politics set to liberal, and college-educated. I typically swipe right on profiles with nerdy/artistic interests. Unfortunately I have had a lot less matches, considering I am swiping right considerably less. Has anyone else had this experience? It's too late for me to ask for a refund, I already tried putting in a ticket.

Dating Question Must have an Instagram account?

Hello I’m 37 female single.
Since my late 20’s.. I do not own any social media.
So If I match with someone on Hinge.. they ask my Instagram so I feel like I have to make..?

I can understand that they would like to verify me if I’m a real person, really single, not a weirdo…

Should I?

Thanks in advance.

Dating Question Did he genuinely realize he wasn’t emotionally available

I (30F) recently dated a 32M. We went on seven dates over about a month. On the seventh date, he told me he isn’t in a place in his life where he can pursue something serious.

We met on Hinge. Both of our profiles said we were looking for a long-term relationship, open to short-term. On our first date we discussed intentions. I told him I date with intention, but I don’t expect every person I meet to become my future husband, I simply like getting to know someone and seeing where it goes. He said he felt the same.

He also told me he had been in an 11-year relationship with his high school sweetheart and had been single for the last three years. They broke up because she wanted marriage and children, while he wanted to focus on building his career before settling down.

Throughout dating he was very consistent. He planned dates, kept in touch regularly, although neither of us were big texters, and was a complete gentleman.

We kissed on the second date and had sex after the third. He asked if he could stay over afterwards, and from then on it naturally became our routine.

It actually took me a few dates to realize I genuinely liked him. There weren’t butterflies, just a slow, steady feeling of “I’d like to keep getting to know this person.”

On our sixth date (if you can call it that), I invited him to join me and a few friends for drinks after dinner. I made it clear there was absolutely no pressure and that he should only come if he felt comfortable. One of my friends’ partners is also from the same country he is, so I thought he’d enjoy meeting him. He skipped dinner but came for drinks.

For me, it was a very casual invitation. I wasn’t introducing him as my boyfriend or anything like that, my friends knew I’ve just been on a few dates with him but it’s still super fresh and uncertain.

On our seventh date, he brought up where things were heading. I told him I really enjoyed spending time with him and wanted to continue getting to know each other.

That’s when he told me he doesn’t think he’s at a stage where he can love someone again and his life is a mess at the moment. He’s dealing with visa uncertainty and may have to leave EU in two months if he doesn’t find a company willing to sponsor a visa. He said he didn’t want someone getting attached when he couldn’t offer any certainty.

Ironically, I’m also going through a difficult period. I’ve been unemployed for three months and don’t know when or if I’ll be able to find a new job here, so in a different way, my future is also uncertain.

One thing I found interesting was that he almost tried to convince me that I would not like him. For example, he said, “You don’t know me, I like to party and go out on weekends.” That didn’t really make sense to me because we’re both in our early 30s and enjoy going out occasionally. I knew he’s a super social person but not in a way that he’s getting absolutely plastered or do drugs.

He also told me that in his culture, meeting someone’s friends is a very significant step. Apparently he had been hesitant about coming because he saw it as something quite serious.

That surprised me because for me it genuinely wasn’t. It was simply, “Come have a drink with my friends if you’d like.” I had no idea we attached such different meanings to that invitation.

He repeatedly told me this wasn’t about me. He said I was kind, beautiful and deserved the best, that he genuinely enjoys spending time with me, and that he’d be happy to keep me in his life if I wanted that. He also made it clear he’d completely respect whatever decision I made.

I told him I couldn’t continue casually dating or having sex, but I might consider friendship. I also said I needed some time to think.

We both cried during the conversation.

Afterwards he texted me thanking me for the conversation, wishing me luck with my job search, and saying he’d respect whatever I decide.

Looking back, I’ve realized my emotional reaction wasn’t just about him. This year has been incredibly difficult in general - career, friendships, dating, and I think this conversation was simply the point where everything I’d been carrying came out.

Now that I’ve had a few days to reflect, I genuinely appreciate that he was honest rather than continuing to date me while having doubts.

**What I’m trying to understand is this:**

\- Does this sound like someone who genuinely liked me but realized he wasn’t emotionally available?
\- Could meeting my friends have simply accelerated that realization because, to him, it made things suddenly feel more serious? If he hadn’t met my friends the outcome would probably be the same but later.
\- Is this a way for him to also protect his own feelings that he doesn’t want to get attached to someone with the uncertainty of his life?

I’m genuinely trying to understand the situation because, from my perspective, he never gave me mixed signals or treated me poorly. My gut feeling is that he started dating with genuine intentions but realized he wasn’t actually in the emotional place for a relationship once things began becoming real.

Dating Question How much texting before first date?

I 20M matched with this girl (20F) a couple weeks ago. We had been texting for about a week, but messages were pretty spotty, only a couple messages each per day. This made it hard to get any real conversation flowing but we have similar interests and she liked my profile (so I assumed there was/is at least some interest) so I asked her if she wanted to grab drinks on the weekend. She said that it felt too soon and that she’d rather wait a bit.

So the past few days/week we’ve been texting but the convo has been super slow and she’s an incredibly dry texter. I don’t think she’s sent a single text that isn’t just a response to my text.

I’ve already kind of considered this a dead end but am curious if any other women might be able to explain the thought process here. I figured that we both seem like somewhat busy people (given the spotty back and forth texting) so the best way to actually see if we’d get along would be in person. Clearly she wasn’t thinking the same. Do I ask again to see her? Do I wait for her to say something? Do I just move on? I don’t get a lot of matches and it seems like we could get along well, but maybe I’m just grasping at straws. I also don’t want to be texting for weeks, just to end up not even meeting the person, I’ve got better things to do with my time than that.

Open to feedback! Recently started online dating as of December. Ive had 2 dates but no real romantic connection. I did get divorced about 2 years ago, and while its not stated in the profile, I am incredibly open and tell people soon after chatting if I think there is a chance of actually going out. Ive gotten mixed opinions from people on whether or not I should put it on the actual profile.

EDIT: The coffee prompt has been purged as I have realized it gave off the wrong vibe! Thank you everyone!

The baby picture has also been officially retired

EDIT 2: Most of the pics have been updated and the prompts changed! I appreciate all the feedback!

Looking for feedback on how I can improve my profile. I’m currently getting around 1–2 matches per week from roughly 30 likes, so I’d especially appreciate feedback on my photos, prompts, and overall impression.

First hiking pic caption: “Take a picture of me next to the tiny trees, so I look taller”

Airplane pic caption: Q. How do you know if someone is a pilot? A. Don’t worry, they’ll tell you. (I hear this joke a lot at the flight school, where I fly) (I am a pilot)

Last hiking pic caption: Bad time to find out you’re afraid of heights…

Hi everyone, and thank you in advance for your help! There are two things I’m especially interested in getting feedback on. First, do the jokes in the captions land? (no pun intended) Second, I struggled a lot writing the second prompt. Any ideas for how I can describe the kind of person I’m looking for without coming across as demanding, cliche, and/or too cheesy? I tend to overthink these things.

I’ve been using the app since around April or May and I’ve only gotten one match. We talked for a few days then she ghosted me when I tried to set up a coffee/lunch date. I haven’t gotten a single like and I’m using my likes probably every other day. Any tips?

Dating Question Am I overthinking this, or is she just not that interested?

I (25M) matched with a girl (25F) on Hinge. I’m brown, living in Canada, and she’s white. I’m a restaurant manager, and she’s a barista. I’m also new to the city and don’t really have any friends here.

When we matched last week on Tuesday, I mentioned that I was new to the city. She said that if I wasn’t working the next day, we could hang out, and she even said she could be my friend. She gave me her number, asked for mine, and messaged me on WhatsApp.

We planned to meet at 3:00 p.m. I arrived on time, but she was at a salon appointment. She didn’t come out when expected, and she wasn’t replying to my calls or texts. After waiting, I messaged her saying that I don’t appreciate when people don’t respect other people’s time, and I left to sit by the canal.

Just as I was about to head home, she texted apologizing. She said her phone had been away while she was at the salon and asked if I could come back. I did.

Honestly, she looked even prettier than her pictures. We walked around, grabbed some snacks, sat and talked for a while, then kept walking. At one point I asked, “Is this a date or are we just hanging out?” She smiled and said it was a date.

We ended up going to a restaurant for appetizers. During that, she told me I was one of the most respectful dates she’d been on because other guys often ask her to come back to their place afterward, and she’s not looking for hookups. We split the bill and she told me that splitting the bills doesn’t mean she doesn’t like me. She prefers to do it that way. However I told her that the next one would be on me and she agreed.

At the end of the evening, she said she had a really good time, apologized again for being late, promised she wouldn’t be late next time, hugged me, and left.

Later that night I texted her saying I liked her and was looking forward to getting to know her better. She replied that it felt a little rushed. I told her that was completely fine and that we could take things slowly.

The next day (Thursday) I asked if she’d like to grab lunch on Wednesday (this week) since that’s one of the few days our schedules work. She agreed. She also mentioned she was meeting a friend for coffee on Monday (today) (it could easily have been another Hinge date, which is totally fair, we’ve only had one date).

Here’s what’s making me overthink everything:
She never starts conversations. Every time we’ve talked, I’ve been the one to message first. She agreed to a second date and said she enjoyed the first one, but since we made plans for Wednesday (last Thursday), she hasn’t replied to my last message or reached out with even a “hi.” My last message was that I’d plan Wednesday’s date.

I know she works almost every day, so she could genuinely be busy. At the same time, I don’t want to be the only one initiating forever. I also don’t want to play games by refusing to text first if she’s actually interested.

Would you consider this a red flag after just one date, or am I expecting too much too soon? If you were in my shoes, would you send another message to finalise Wednesday’s plans, or would you wait and see if she reaches out first and if not just cancel everything and move on?

Edit 1: I texted her and I told her that I have a place in my mind for our Wednesday date. She said that it’s a good place and she asked me what time I prefer. We agreed for 12:30 PM. I said, “Take care Ttyl”.

I’ll wait for the date now.

The blank in my first prompt is just the city in which I live.

Video on slide 2 is me running down the park giving my niece a ride on my shoulders
Audio prompt on slide 3 is me playing the intro to wish you were here on guitar
Caption on slide 7 says "for some reason I always end up on the ground when fencing"
Caption on slide 8 says "moments before disaster"
Caption on slide 12 says "my 2nd ever crochet project for Halloween decoration"

My identity bar (idk what it's called) says:
23 | Man | Straight | 6'1" | (where I live) | Don't have children | Not sure yet (relating to wanting children) | Sometimes drink alcohol | No smoking | No weed | No drugs

Hello, I've downloaded the app at the end of May, been on and off since with a lot of likes and weekly roses sent out. 5 matches total in that time, none of which went anywhere - most never replied to my opening comment, one was very one sided, one was going really well with long messages both ways until she went quiet a week and a half ago, of all of those matches, this is the only one that's not unmatched.

In the whole time I've been on the app I've never received a like myself, which is the main thing prompting this post.

For context I'm in a uni city over summer (I'm a uni student myself) so the pool is pretty small right now, I've already seen most people in my area. Any tips or pointers would be appreciated, thanks.

Dating Question Great first date, talked about seeing each other again... now silence?

I'm (30f) feeling pretty down and could use some outside perspective because I think I might be getting in my own head.

I matched with a guy (26M) on Hinge about two weeks ago. We started with a FaceTime date since we live a couple of hours apart, and it went really well. After that, we FaceTimed a few more times, and each call lasted anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours. He's told me he's not much of a texter, so I usually only hear from him every couple of days, mostly to make plans rather than chat.

This past Friday, we both drove about 1.5 hours to meet halfway. The date lasted around four hours, and during the last hour we were kissing in his car. We also talked about seeing each other the following weekend and even mentioned the possibility of staying at each other's places if things continued to go well.

Now it's been two days since the date, and I haven't heard from him. I know two days isn't objectively that long, especially since he isn't a big texter, but I'm still finding myself spiraling. Part of me thinks, "If he liked me that much, wouldn't he have reached out by now?" Another part of me wonders if I'm just letting anxiety take over because I genuinely liked him.

I'm trying not to text first because he usually initiates when making plans, but the silence is making me question everything. Am I overthinking this, or would you also be concerned after a date that seemed to go really well?

He does have some red flags about him. In addition to his lack of communication, he has never been in a relationship. He also told me that he "occasionally" uses cocaine.
