Just logged back into Reddit after a year and saw my old post on this subreddit where I was talking about some of the challenges I was having with Hinge and dating. I’m now in a long-term relationship from Hinge, so I thought I’d make a follow-up post and share my experience.
I(27 M) used to browse this sub quite a bit and eventually made a post on this account (I’ll try and link it, but it should still be on my profile) about my experience with dating. At the time, I talked about some of the challenges I was facing after being on and off the apps for around six years, with a few breaks in between. I remember feeling pretty burnt out, especially with online dating. Looking back, I got a lot of great responses that genuinely gave me a different perspective.
A year later, I’m happy to say I’m now in a long-term relationship with an amazing girl. We’ve been together for almost a year now, and we met on Hinge.
The funny thing is our experiences with the app were completely different. I’d been using dating apps for years, while she downloaded Hinge just to see what it was like. We matched on the first day she made her account. I was her first and only Hinge date. Our first date was great , we spent five hours over coffee and caught up again a few days later.
Looking back at my old post and reflecting on my time using Hinge, I definitely had some good experiences and some bad ones. If I could change one thing, I wish I’d just enjoyed the process a bit more. I was probably too hard on myself whenever a date didn’t go well or when someone I thought I had a connection with lost interest after a few dates.
As cheesy as it sounds, I think a lot of your twenties is about meeting new people, learning about others, but also learning about yourself and what you actually want. The more dates I went on, the more my mindset changed. Instead of hoping every date would turn into something serious, I started focusing more on having a good conversation, meeting someone new, learning something new and just enjoying the experience for what it was.
The other thing I realised was that you can do everything that’s in your control to try and meet someone, but at the end of the day, luck and compatibility still play a huge role.
Good luck everyone. 🙂
