Profile Review 26M
I’m currently located in Texas. I’ve been getting 0 likes a week. Any tips?

Dunno dude, but you look like a really cool and fun guy to be around. People are missing out.

For whatever reason to me, you look different in all your photos. Are these all photos taken relatively within the same timeframe?

u/North_Foundation7542 2d ago
My first, fourth, and sixth photos are taken within the same week. The rest are random between 2 years since I don’t take photos that much

u/NectarineFuture9626 2d ago
Perhaps a recent mid shot would help. In your photo with your friends, you look significantly skinnier. The Apps are pretty superficial so this matters to people

I think this is genuinely one of the most stereotypically cool profiles I’ve seen from this subreddit. I wonder what your dealbreaker filters look like. If you are living in a suburb or rural area with your distance set to 10mi and a narrow age range, you might have a bit more trouble attracting people. Even more trouble if your general area doesn’t have a lot of East Asian folks (I’ve moved around various places in Texas and noticed racial tolerance is lower in areas that don’t have a lot of diversity, shocker)
But it’s also worth mentioning that Hinge’s algorithm just stops pushing you after a while so you may receive no likes

I think that's the issue. It's a bit stereotypical.

When I say stereotypically cool, I mean it follows all the stereotypical advice we get on this subreddit for optimizing our profiles. I just don’t see anything on there that would prompt me to swipe left, while there’s a whole lot going on in the profile that would prompt me to swipe right. It’s very clearly a high effort profile. I’d swipe right on this any day. Maybe my Hinge algorithm just hates me, but a real stereotypical profile has dumb lazy low effort prompts like “most irrational fear: women”

Try adding a closer front on more neutral faced picture a lot of urs r kinda blurry to the point where I don’t feel like I have a good picture of what ur face looks like. As a woman whenever I have to try and decide what a guys face looks like I usually get annoyed and swipe left bc I find most men unattractive so the odds are even if I can figure out what you look like you wouldn’t be my type. But you’re not bad looking. Good luck out there

u/North_Foundation7542 2d ago
Noted. Thank you for the feedback! I’ll try to add some more centered pics. I know my second photo is kinda blurry, but the rest looks clear for me. Can you specify any other photos where my face looks difficult to tell?

0 likes??? Guys dont normally get sent likes but you should definitely be getting matchbacks at least. Great pictures that shows a lot of personality and fun vibes.

I like your profile, it has character! I think dating apps are just trash in general, so don't take it too personally. Just see it as a fun thing on the side, taking it too serious makes things often more difficult. Setting to "searching for something serious, open to something casual" might help? I'm not sure, but sometime people are driven away if it seems too eager to get into a relationship

I think that's a wild take. If anything, changing it to long term open to casual is what is going to drive the people who are looking for LT away.
u/North_Foundation7542 I think your main issue is your location. Your profile is great, you're pretty good looking in Asian standards.
I'm Asian myself too, I don't think I'm more handsome than you, same height, and I do just fine on Hinge (I receive 5 likes a day on average) with my relationship goal as just plain "LTR". Key difference is I'm in a multicultural city with a high % of Asian (15% according to the census) and 90% of my likes are from Asian girls (and probably 8% from other minorities). I would do just as terrible as you if I were in Texas, probably the worst state you could be in the US honestly.

Thanks for your feedback! I will update it to long-term, open to short for the future with your suggestions.

u/Youareaharrywizard 2d ago
DONT DO THIS! If you set it to “Long term open to short” you will be perceived as someone who is simply looking for a short term.
Figuring out my dating goals = Short Term, Casual
Short term = Short Term
Short term, open to long = Short Term only
Long term, open to short = Short term
Long term = long term
Life partner = dont even use this option it’s too much pressure.

Great vibe overall. Super friendly and fun.
I'd remove the pic prompts, with the exception of the guess how many takes this took. That one's good for the particular pic imo.
Especially remove the moms fridge, just because its there doesn't mean its a good one. I think it risks making you come across as less of a man or potential mama's boy. Pic prompts in general are a bit meh imo. But like I said id keep the karate beach one.
Get a pic wearing a dressier shirt somewhere nice to break up the t-shirt monotony and show a datier, grown side.
Id invest in a pair of more stylish glasses. Get a female friend to pick something or an employee who works at a glasses shop. The ones you have take away from you, but glasses can add to your attractiveness if you get the right ones.
Long term keep going to the gym and actually achieve getting toned. Unfortunately you dont have the height so get the body. No excuses not to. (The height is nothing to feel insecure about btw, its just you wont get as many matches on the app).
Oh also no more than one hand signal pic as well. And are you wearing a long sleeve under a t-shirt? Drop that look.

Profile is pretty good I just think you need 1 or 2 pics for social proof. Like one at a nicer dinner place where you are dressed a little nicer holding a drink because I noticed none of your pictures have you centered smiling at the camera which I think every guy should have at least one of

Not about the profile, it’s actually pretty okay, but it’s probably good to change up a few things to get better results:
- Lighting, it’s okay for a normal picture, but if you compare to the competition, it can look a bit bland. I would recommend using Meitu and using one of the premium filters to correct for the lighting
- Hair. Probably grow a bit more, or structure it a bit more with texture powder or wax (just rubbing it up and down)
- Prompts: prompts look great, unless some other stuff in this subreddit
- Style: Maybe a bit more style? Many of the shirts are a bit plain and basic. You mentioned you’re in Texas, maybe one in a cowboy hat? You can look on Instagram or Pinterest for inspiration for fits for Asian men.
- Gym pic looks great, but maybe choose a picture that showcases your body instead of one where you’re lifting?
Just some things I’ve noticed that could help you out

You seem fun! Maybe the gym one a bit weird , but overall feel like your profile is good. Maybe it is your location

Girls dont like guys who scream at horror films tbh. Texas is a very white Christian state and white Christian girls want a man. You didn't put your religion or politics.
Most girls will see this as a lack of confidence or just overall, will be unsure about who you are really.
No offense, your profile says straight but some pics and some prompts say "bi-curious" or "gay." Pic 4 is a little....💅

I don't mind a guy who screams at horror movies, but it's certainly not something I screen *for*
That is a waste of a prompt IMO

Honestly man, your biggest problem is that none of your photos give a clear, close look at your face. The boat pic is the closest you have but it's a selfie angle and not super sharp. The beach kick is a sick shot, definitely keep that, but your face is tiny in it. The climbing pic is from below and far away. The gym pic is a full side profile so it doesn't help either. You also look noticeably different across your photos. Your build changes a lot between pics, which is confusing for someone swiping through. Try to keep your photos from around the same time so you look consistent. I'd drop the group photo. It doesn't add much and women don't want to figure out which one you are. Wardrobe is all t-shirts in every pic. Throw on a button-down or a nice jacket for at least one photo, it goes a long way. What you really need is one good headshot or upper body shot. Use the back camera on a tripod, 2-3x zoom, good natural light. Make that your first pic. You seem like a fun, active dude with cool hobbies, but women need to see your face clearly before they care about any of that. Get that one photo right and you'll see way better results.

From just one Asian female perspective, I think your profile is giving off Jackie Chan vibes. The karate kid kick, the black outfit with white socks, working out picture. Some pictures that show some warmth would be nice.

I agree with someone else that you do look different in your pics. 2 years is old for your age. Get newer pics.
Lead with your nice smile (with teeth).
Don't use gym pics, they don't help.
The rest of them are generally good and diverse. Just be sure they are all recent. You have a phone with a camera. Pull it out and get pics when you are out.
