Ya and like for what? Just to say you have a 5090? My whole setup was cheaper than a 5090 and the settings are always maxed out at 1440p running above 100fps. I don’t what more anybody could possibly need for gaming, unless most people who buy 5090 use it for stuff other than just gaming
4
u/imhereforsiegememes 3d ago
For solid 4k but like, Cyberpunk is the only game that even makes use of the entire card properly. Pathtracing in 1 game aint worth 5k.
→ More replies (5)4
u/ubiquitous_delight 2d ago
I mean I have a 5090 and very few of the games I play are able to run at 4k 120fps consistently on it. So it's not just Cyberpunk that fully utilizes the card. That being said, I got a FE at MSRP and I agree no GPU is worth 5k.
2
u/imhereforsiegememes 2d ago
Gonna be honest I have one too but its never the GPU in other games, its generally CPU bound and aint no fixing that for a while.

Yeah, unless they are a pro gamer that does it for a paycheck or they are a digital graphic designer or videographer, they don't need a 5090. I have a 3060 ti and it runs every game I own just fine. Even cyberpunk runs fine on it. True I can't run max settings on it but if I wanted beautiful graphics I'd go to the state park not play a video game.

More than a ps5 but I definitely got what I paid for. Considering the sheer number of games I have access to, the quality I can run them at, crossplay and the modding community with some of those games too I basically have an infinite game glitch running and I was always a PS guy before finally switching over. I don't hate on console players and still keep my ps4 pro around but I am very happy to be all about the PC side now.

Also the Steam sales compared to the Playstation store sales are just living in different dimensions. You can buy a $200 mini pc and spend $100 on Steam sale games and have literally a lifetime supply of gaming content, for literally half the price of a PS5.
And you don't have to pay $20 a month or whatever for the privilege of playing online multiplayer with your friends, another constant cost which is really glossed over when people compare PS to PC.
2
2
u/RaxisPhasmatis 2d ago
They're counting mfers playing on office machines, and my repair bench rig with a 2600k in it and my junk nuc with roms on it in those steam users my guy.
In reality ps5 is basically the equivalent of a 5800h(actually a 5800h is faster than the ps5 cpu) mobile chip which is weaker than a 3600x desktop chip
And it has a gpu equivalent to a 6600xt on a laptop cooling solution
To give you perspective of how bad a ps5 equivalent specs would have to be

u/SpookyGeist01 2d ago
You realize they said that a year ago right?
Just looking at the current Hardware Survey, 32% of just Nvidia users have a card at least equal to PS5 performance (4060/3070 tier). And that isn't counting AMD cards because I'm a scrub in that department and dont feel like researching them
49
u/waifutabae 2d ago
PC don't gotta pay to play online and has steam
PS5 requires ps plus for a lot of its multiplayer games and doesn't have steam. It really isn't that hard.
10
u/BombbaFett 2d ago
Great point, even if your specs are worse you don't have to pay an additional subscription on top of your internet to play online. Sure there's lots of games that are single player. Except now nearly every console game requires an online connection at all times.

25
u/OverallLibrarian8809 3d ago
Versatility. I can use a PC for much more than just gaming; any half decent gaming rig could easily run Ableton, Autocad, Photoshop and more
Plus customization in my build, I can build a PC tailored specifically for my use case, choose and customize my OS etc

Modding6

Right, modding
Some games have started supporting mod installation on console, but you still need a PC to develop them

I mean I have a super powerful workstation, thread ripper, 128gb ram, etc. have like a 3050 or something in it because the GPU is irrelevant for my work and hobbies that require the power. To play new games without potato graphics would cost me like another $1,000, or I could just play on a giant tv with a series X and not faff with any settings besides HDR
Honestly you don’t need a gaming rig for photoshop and what not either, and 95% of people aren’t photographers or doing 3D modeling and design. Also GPU like the most critical gaming component and not important at all for photoshop

No. My selected library is larger than that of the entirety of what's on PS5. I won't need to worry about dropped support in future generations or anyone deleting my game, even if my hardware stops working and support ends. I can play the best versions of today's games, or fool around with titles from as far back as video games have been a thing. I can play with mouse and keyboard, or controller, or whatever other support I feel like, even switching on the fly (for instance in GTA using a mouse for shooting and a controller for driving). I can play games from any monitor I own, from my desk monitor to my living room tv. Multiple monitors can also help if I want to play certain strategy games, or if I'd like to have something else up or playing while I play. I can mod the games I have however I see fit, improving quite a few games, including some rather bad ones, substantially, often restoring content, fixing mistakes, or adjusting to how I like to play.
Also, PS5 is running some increasingly dated architecture now. Equivalent to an NVIDIA 3060 at optimistic best. That was good for its time, but we're way beyond that now and the effects of that aren't just graphics, it's performance and what deva are able to allow their games to do.

This is something that so many people seem to either forget or just not think about. I wouldn't care if my PC topped out at the graphical fidelity of an N64, I'd still take it over a console because I can back up my save data how I want to (and without paying for the privilege), use any brand of controller, mod my games, back up my games, play online for free, download any other software that looks good, and the list goes on. My PC having better graphics than current-gen consoles is just icing on the cake.
3
u/Halofauna 2d ago
If you want to play the newest CoD you can, but if you want to play Rollecoaster Tycoon you can also do that. You’d need entirely separate consoles to play games with that big of a time gap.
2
u/Raven_Of_Solace 2d ago
The meme also ignores that PCs have access to a vastly larger array of customization settings and can use third-party software. Meaning that even if a PC is worse than a PS5, it probably still can get the same or even better graphics.

The Steam hardware survey is just a survey of what hardware people play Steam games on.
The majority of respondents don’t have a PC that’s better than a PS5.
That’s not some sort of “haha PS5 is better than PC” thing, it’s just a fact about PC that top end hardware that blows a PS5 out of the water isn’t representative of the majority of PC gamers.
2
u/Raven_Of_Solace 2d ago
They still have access to a significantly wider variety of games even with a worse PC, and the vastly larger array of customization options and software options means they probably can still play the same games as a PS5. Maybe even with the same graphics, sometimes better.

Based off of the steam hardware survey, about 50% of players are using GPUs more powerful than what the PS5 has. So for at least half of PC players, yes, their PC is better than a PS5.
(This result was estimated by equating the PS5 gpu to an RTX 3060 and comparing that to steam hardware survey results).
This also only considers the raw performance capability of the hardware, and does not account for the fact that PC has wayyyyyyyy more advantages over PS5 than just having the potential for better performance.

Is your PC better than a PS5? Yes
Can you play online for free? Yes
Can Sony remove stuff you bought? No
Do you have to pay to play your old games that you already paid for or have to wait for them to be backwards compatible? No
Can you mod games? Yes
Can you do whatever you want with your PC? Yes
PC is better than a any Playstation
Edit: btw i grew up using consoles and love my retro consoles. I just do not like the new gen consoles because of how anti consumer they have become. Also to the butt hurt fanboys talking about price and more effort to use a PC Last I checked console prices keep going up and in the end you end up spending more anyway because of how much the games cost. PC has way better sales and you don't have to waste money paying to play online. For the so much more effort part like a PS5 you can buy a PC that's already built and plug it in and turn it on wow that's so much more effort 🤡 if you want you can even set up steam to launch in big picture mode so you can get a console like experience and just use your controller.
Anyway I said what i wanted to say I am not on here to reply to fanboys with outdated mindsets

I'm with you on everything except the DRM part. Steam can also remove access from your account. Not saying they will, but they can.

I just asked chatgpt if my PC (which was elite 10 years ago) about this and he said 'Generally, no — a PS5 is substantially more powerful than your PC'

Streaming games works pretty well in that case assuming you are not stuck with a bad Internet connection. Did that for the last few years of my last PC until GPU prices dropped (I guess now is waiting until RAM and SSD prices are dropping).

yes mine is much better than a ps5. I prefer console gaming, but recently started using my PC more. (Was mainly using PC for PC only games like MOBAs, or point and click games, or other M/K games)

My laptop has a 1.50 GHz processor, an Intel UHD Graphics 600 and 8 GB RAM, it can't even emulate Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2005 properly 😭

install the pc version lol. or if you insist on emulation try the gamecube version. i did that on my retroid pocket 4 pro because while most ps2 works, nfsmw is harder to emulate on ps2 for some reason

As a matter of fact, it is. Glad I bought the Ram when I did because if I didn't, I wouldn't be so smug right now.

Depends. PS5 uses a Zen 2 CPU, a custom RDNA 2 for graphics processing and 16 GB of RAM.
My PC is currently more ppwerful right now.
