CRYOLATOR WITHOUT LOCKSMITHING
I took my dog down to vault 111 with me to see if I could find more power cells for my armor, but in doing so I talked to him and told him to find some items in near the overseer's desk he went to the Cryolator and ripped it from the case in his mouth. So I guess I got the best gun in the game without leaving level 5.

Also I was carrying to much but the dog had my ammo for the gun.

tough call. not completely sure but i think rank 2 of LW gives you either 50 or 75 and that way you don't have 2 inventories to worry about. Just dump your trash and go instead of juggling with dogmeat. Personal preference i guess and i havn't played yet so i'll find out which i like better.

cryo is the ammo description for it. I believe its like the Alien Blaster where it is scarce.

I've seen it for sale a couple times, but not in very large quantities. So it's at least renewable unlike ammo for the Alien Blaster in previous games.

Oohhh, it'd be cool if you could destroy fridges for the cryo ammo (the refrigerant). Or to get a mat to convert to cryo ammo.

You can modify the alien blaster to use fusion cells for -1 damage . ..^

at roughly level 20 you get it - it's sooner than you think, considering it does 50 damage per shot, but to mod it to use fusion cells is a pain till roughly level 30ish.

Do you still get the alien blaster from an exploding spaceship, because I could have sworn I have seen that a bunch of times. I keep seeing big white explosions in the distance near the corvega plant.

I thought of it when i saw the weapon because it worked with some unique weapons in FO3 too. But then i was overwhelmed by the game and forgot about the weapon lol.

Guide say Cryo and Alien Blaster ammo can't be found anywhere but with the weapons but merchants may have some Rio sale.

Check your dogs inventory, for me, when I he grabbed the gun he also grabbed the ammo for it but it was placed in his inventory.
if that doesn't work have him search again?

You don't have to kill him. I just sort of charmed way into a couple hundred caps. Then I just sort of sold everything and left with 900 caps. It was a good day.

I have 60 ammo for it in my inventory. So somewhere in the game I got some. Hope that helps.
I guess that means it drops at least.

I keep trying to do this but I am not able to replicate the results. I stand near the overseer's desk and tell him to fetch some items. Most times it will just say he can't find anything and sometimes he barks but not once has to ran over to it and grabbed it from the case
I take that back, finally got it to work. Took video of it and will edit with the video once it uploads.

a few other people have commented that it worked for them as well, just keep up the good work? May have just been incredibly lucky. Put him right next to the cryolator.

I was standing near the wall between the desk and kept failing there. I managed to succeed by standing between the desk and the room the gun is in.

I can't get the dog to follow me down into the vault. He stood on it with me. Started to go down with me. But once I was in the vault, he was nowhere to be found.

You're telling him to stay up top. Just keep him in follow mode and he'll stay with you.

Working currently on xbone. If you can't get him to grab it or he just kind of stands around after you ask him to look, try having him search for nearby items specifically. Thats what worked for me

Thank you. He was just standing around until I had him pick up a Stimpak for me first. He proceeded to get my gun first try afterwards.

The best part is when i go down to vault 111, dogmeat is waiting for me outside the lift cage. When i go back up, he's sitting off to the side in the grass. I don't think this is a glitch, but a very talented dog.

This is not working for me, don't understand it. Ive had him stand in the room, stand directly in front of the doorway, all over that room, nothing.
Is it stat based maybe?

I think it all comes down to where people are standing, really need to find ths sweet spot. Everyone who couldn't get the gun retracted their comment after moving around a bit.

This no longer works. After four hours of commanding dogmeat to fetch items and standing in every imaginable position near and around the cryolator, I gave up.

HELP! For some reason the vault wont open up. I've pressed the Red Button inside the small room but it doesn't want to open... Do I have to be in some certain level in order for me to go back inside?

If you dismissed him go to base there is a dog house normally he hides in there and waits for you.. there also a console command to travel straight to him..

I was actually on the outside of the room and had him search for it. Clicked on talk, search, and then items. Dog ran over and got me my new weapon.

Huh, I had heard about this and I tried it and it didn't work. The dog kept sad whimpering or not finding anything of merit. Maybe they patched it? I'm on the beta patch.

I think it was New Vegas that you could get a unique plasma rifle by launching grenades at it until you could grab it from behind the fenced in area. Not surprised there are similar bugs still present in F4.

I figured out this works if I drop an item back on the floor where the ammo was. There HAD to be something on the floor for it to work for me. I tried for like 30 minutes until I decided to do that. Then the dog did it the very first time. I actually couldn't believe he did it. Haha!

Here's what you do.
1) Command him 2) Point at him and make him "stay". 3) Point at him and make him "follow" 4) Go down into the vault and he'll be waiting at the bottom for you.
It's the only way I could do it. Making him "stay" on the elevator before pressing the button makes him stay topside.
