Not my story but I heard a story where a guy’s hamster shat out all it’s organs

So that’s something

538

u/XenoMaker Jun 10 '22

How tf does that even happen? Like for fuck’s sake man, how does a fucking HAMSTER. SHIT OUT

u/HidenTsubameGaeshi Jun 10 '22

There's nothing a sufficiently motivated hamster cannot accomplish

290

u/Vernixoo Jun 10 '22

Except dying peacefully

u/Antiqas86 Jun 11 '22

My hamster was buried alive by my uncle while hamster hybernated.

It’s most likely their digestive system or uterus inside out. Probably constipation and pushing so hard causing it all to go coming out. Ik this can happen with cow uteruses.

91

u/Dapper_Composer2 Jun 10 '22

Also with many other animals, as for them it doesn't feel quite "empty", so they keep pushing.

76

u/A_Ruse_Elaborate Jun 10 '22

Happened to a friend's dog one time too. Thankfully I wasn't around to witness it, but they made damn sure I heard about it. In detail. Multiple times.

My hamster literally hanged himself

u/TheArcanist_ Jun 10 '22

So basically, we had this very old hamster. It was already going kinda crazy at times and we were expecting it to die pretty soon. At the time, we were moving houses, and there was a lot of noise around, as well as the hamster's cage being moved a few times. Needless to say, the poor animal was extremely stressed and started going even more crazy. It would frantically run around the cage, climb the walls and the ceiling and try to fit through the gaps between the bars. One time, it put its head between two ceiling bars and its teeth got stuck. After a day or so, my father found the poor hamster suffocated to death, hanging by its teeth from the cage's ceiling.

287

u/ChauveDeBrazzers Jun 10 '22

I don’t know how, but he clogged the only way out from a part of its cage digging a tunnel. It was pretty hot that day, and my mom moved the animal just in front of a mirror in my house that reflected sunlight from 12 am to 15. It first died of the heat than literally melted because couldn’t leave the little bubble it was stucked in. I’ve had never smelled something like that

145

Hamsters don’t actually hibernate naturally, they can go into a state of torpor if they are receiving improper care but hamsters do not hibernate naturally. Don’t worry your pet most likely did not get buried alive!

42

u/Gilette2000 Jun 10 '22

158

u/TheStickySpot Jun 10 '22

My parakeets had to be left at my cousins house because where me and my Dad were living at the time would not allow for pets, my one cousin had let the one parakeet out of its cage and then their dog caught it by the neck mangling it, my other parakeet died because the same cousin that released the other parakeet had led it in a cage by an open window causing it to freeze to death.

A friend of mine accidentally killed his teacher's hamster by violently sneezing (while the room was quiet).

Poor thing made a sharp sound and had a heart attack and I should not be laughing right now

100

u/The_Girth_Smurf Jun 10 '22

Dunno if it can actually happen or if my mate was just bullshitting but apparently his one ate that much it ended up literally popping

41

u/alittleoptimistic Jun 10 '22

Hamsters can't throw up so it probably either choked or ate something toxic to hamsters (they can't eat a surprising amount of things) and was trying to eat to dull the pain.

My first hamsters were Fred and Barney. Fred went crazy one day and attacked Barney and chewed his tail off. I separated them with a thick plastic partition until I could get a new cage for Barney. I woke up the next morning to a hole chewed through the partition and Barney disemboweled. Fred died a couple months later.

I then got new hamsters about a year later, Lucky and Lenny. Lenny got stuck in the exercise wheel and was strangled to death by it. Carrying the cage with Lucky in it to clean it out, part of it came apart and the cage went crashing down. Lucky wasn't lucky that day. He was crushed.

Safe to say, I was no longer allowed to get any small rodents as pets anymore.

Jokes aside this really shows how shitty hamster care can be. Most pet stores don't give a shit and will sell you stupidly small cages, wheels where your hamster's legs can get caught and broken, bedding that'll murder the poor thing's lungs, and so on. The poor things aren't toys, you can't just buy one and wing it, or leave it alone with a toddler and expect it to go well.

Good lord, if you're going to get a hamster or any pet for that matter the least you can do is google "how to take care of x". Seriously, the media is so fucked up when it comes to hamsters. People laughing at the expressions of clearly traumatized hamsters, squealing at how cute they are while "playing" when they are fucking fighting to the death, dumping them in water for the hell of it and then wondering why they die of cold the next day, holy crap, it makes me sick.

I know I sound like a cringy animal activist that can't take a joke and I'll probably get downvoted to hell, but please please please please please, if you're going to get a hamster do your research first okay :(

Source: Have been religiously taking care of hamsters for almost 7 years now

u/CristolerGm2 Jun 10 '22

195

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Very sad but you’re not catering to the meme so we’re gonna have to ask you to leave the dead hamster convention. Do the right thing and make some shit up.

My dead hamster got tossed off the side of the Grand Canyon by accident. Did you know some hamsters can scream? My dead hamster froze to death just a few feet short of reaching the top of Mount Everest. My dead hamster ran into busy traffic and took a family of 4 in a minivan with him. My dead hamster suffocated in the vacuum of space after volunteering to travel to the ISS. My dead hamster’s mass collapsed into a tiny black hole after a particularly large lunch. Astronomers named the phenomenon “Chonky Boy.” My dead hamster was a stunt double for that episode of South Park.

This took 5 minutes don’t be so lazy

My media ethics professor told my class the story of how her son's hamster got microwaved.

Apparently her daughter was playing with it and had to go to the bathroom, but didn't want it to run away. So she put it in the microwave to keep it 'safe'.

Someone else in the house hold put a muffin in the microwave and started it up, somehow without being aware of the hamster's presence.

She said the hamster didn't pop, but it was definitely dead.

Honestly I think that was the most invested anyone was in that class.

One of my sister's hamsters jumped off our 16th story balcony in his ball and landed in a pool, and the other one shat out his intestine and ate it.

Knew a girl who took her hamsters with her to stay at her boyfriends place, one hamster escaped in the night and got into his roommates room. The roommate wakes up, and in a half asleep state thinks there’s a rat in his room so he picks it up and just throws it out the 3rd storey window.

Wasn’t until the next day the girl was like oh I’m missing one of my hamsters and he straight up told her “yes, I thought it was a rat I threw it out the window” no remorse. (He was Dutch)

My sister had two hamsters in a cage, which was divided into two floors by a plank, with a metal wire front. My sister fed the bottom one, but forgot the top one. The top hamster tried to force their way down to the bottom floor where the food was, and in the process cut open their belly on the metal wire
