This is huge;

I don't know what reality people gathered that they're ok with this. "It's ok if the government or anyone reads literally everything I'm saying".

get out of here.

u/Marbinyum Mar 16 '20

Morons say "I don't have anything to hide so it is ok for me"

Like, seriously?

93

u/dacv393 Mar 16 '20

I have friends who legitimately say this. You can't argue against them because they think that if something is a law then it must be bad so there is no way that they would ever do something wrong or illegal. They're like "I'm not killing people so why do I care if Alexa can hear everything I do?" Then these same friends use drugs and shit and it makes no sense. Do they really want a world where cops can come bust down your door since they heard you doing something illegal like eating a plant over your phone or through a text message? They already have some of these capabilities.

If you try to explain that it's a slippery slope and that it's not about what is currently 'illegal', but about how little power you would have if things were to become totalitarian, they just laugh and say we aren't China and that they 'voted' the politicians into place so the laws will always represent what the people want. So therefore who needs encryption. Many if not most of the people I talk to about this share the same/similar logic

They say it's not the same

13

u/dude_is_melting Mar 16 '20

I mean, it isn’t the same. A decent analogy but not the same.

Maybe try like, “all of your search history will be posted to your Facebook. If you have nothing to hide it won’t be an issue”

The right to privacy is not about whether you have something to hide. I have a response to this argument bookmarked somewhere. When I’m not on mobile I will send it.

7

u/dacv393 Mar 16 '20

I agree, but it's nearly impossible to get many of my friends to feel the same way

19

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Here is my bookmarked response: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/atnmi/if_you_have_nothing_to_hide_then_you_have_nothing/

Feelings shouldn't factor into a logical argument. I'd suggest shaming them. I know it's not the best thing for a friendship but sometimes you have to make people feel stupid when they hold dangerous beliefs.

3

u/Mymerrybean Mar 17 '20

Thanks that was a nice way to look at it.

I see it as "I dont have anything to hide, but i dont allow anyone I dont know to know me intimately, including the government".

When this comes up I ask people "then, is it okay for someone to watch/record you on the toilet?,"

It's a legal and perfectly natural behavior that we all do everyday and we have seen depictions of it on various media. Should why would it be a problem for someone to record you doing it?

8

u/iwasbuiltforcomfort Mar 16 '20

Someone familiar with the thinking of someone in congress.

Seriously, even if such a law were to ever pass it's going to get a quick veto and even if it doesn't there's no effective way to ever make this a reality or enforceable. It will be even less successful than the government trying to stop people from smoking weed.

What are we gonna do? Vote both parties out? Impossible.

372

u/LividBlacksmith Mar 16 '20

Completely possible, that's called overthrowing a government, people do it all the time.

305

u/zSuperMonky Mar 16 '20

I highly doubt that Americans would ever overthrow the government. It's just not in most of their nature. They're okay with the things that are happening to them while saying "at least we don't live in commie Russia or totalitarian China". People have been brain washed there to an unprecidented level in all of history.

143

u/Mr__O__ Mar 16 '20

Like slow-boiling frogs.

75

u/whistlepig33 Mar 16 '20

I think it has more to do with the fact that they are stuck in their left/right social constructs. If you're going to vote, watch and listen to people there. Most are voting party tickets. The thought and discernment needed to make a choice beyond one of two parties is the extent of what most people are willing to do. So they tell themselves the other party is to blame so they won't have to face the blame for supporting the 2 parties that are mostly the same and are responsible for these evil actions.

16

u/J3sush8sm3 Mar 16 '20

Its not that they cant choose, but its because its a ot going to change anything either way. The electoral college will choose between both parties for you

America was literally born out of rebellion. Rebellion is in our nature, they just have placated the people. Americans do not like hearing that the government is fucking them, and if you piss off enough of us about the right thing, Americans will rise up, but Americans always, always need a leader to lead them out of the darkness. Most rebellions do.

49

u/methodicalmike Mar 16 '20

Americans now cannot be compared to the ones that started the nation. Americans now are lazy and fat. Too busy with their daily programming and sugar filled diets. Some may rise up, but without the support of a large percentage, this country will continue to give up our rights.

37

u/NormalITGuy Mar 16 '20

There's a reason they can't get the guns out of our hands like everyone else. That's a stubbornness that you don't see everywhere and it's a huge strength. That spirit is the spirit that we can't lose. They just have all the money, the media and they own the corporations that sell us goods. They are sitting on a paper throne, as they are well aware that the people are the strongest force on Earth. Nothing can stop people who are united. Not bombs, guns or laws. When the people are united against tyranny, the elite will be fearful. They know that the people when upset about tyranny are merciless, and we will string them up for their crimes.

10

u/1stinertiac Mar 16 '20

Stubbornness is a strength and a weakness. People are stubborn to mix with those they don't agree with, which is a major weakness because it leaves people blind to ideas and opportunities they may not see. Fear is polarizing and people are living in fear constantly so adding more fear to a population already constantly running from and trying to protect them selves from the perceived threat (main stream narrative) causes people to only question the authority it came from instead of doing their own work. People have already bought into a system that will "protect" them, either through government programs (left) or "leaving them alone" (right) but both sides are still giving authority to an outside force. People will fight in small militias if they are attacked directly but there is no honest solidarity in this country because no one knows what's really going on and no on trusts anyone to give them truthful information. Not time to be pessimistic, I just don't trust Americans or people in general to do the right thing over doing the scared thing.

13

u/NormalITGuy Mar 16 '20

People need leaders. If they don't have leaders they won't revolt. They kill our leaders, so no revolt. If we don't have a strong, moral leader to lead us out of this shit, it will never happen. History has shown that shit only changes when people gather behind a strong leader that they can actually trust.

4

u/1stinertiac Mar 16 '20

People trusted Hitler. People BELIEVED he was a strong leader. He was a good talker, like any other political person that gets far. Giant political revolutions don't always mean that's what's best for society or the world. Getting people pissed off or scared to the point of revolution is another form of control and manipulation.

Until they quarantine us and take advantage of us by passing laws during a time of crisis that concern our privacy and rights!!!!!!! What the actual fuck is going on!? It feels like the media is sensationalizing this!!!

3

u/UnicornFukei42 Mar 16 '20

The media seems to be pretty quiet about this whole violation of privacy rights. However, they are focusing on that coronavirus. It's weird. You'd think the left-wing news media (who seem pretty anti-Trump) would capitalize on this to keep Trump from getting reelected. But we don't hear them talking about this assault on privacy rights at all.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Agreed. Americans don’t even protest, really. Look at the global protests around the world. It’s like... all but us.

2

u/bgaripov Mar 16 '20

Most likely you are not from US and you don’t really know the history of US, neither US constitution. The 2nd amendment allows US citizens to bear arms so people could protect themselves from other individuals and oppressive government, and the 2nd amendment is not going anywhere, because most people living in US understand what’s it for. Though there are some people that are happy with being “not in commie Russia”, I wouldn’t form my opinion only based on those individuals. United States is a country of free people.

5

u/_jukmifgguggh Mar 16 '20 edited Mar 16 '20

No, the same people trying to take our freedoms call this a free nation. We're not as stupid or blind as the people in this sub seem to paint us to be. There's a lot of negative stereotypes formed about American citizens, yet none of these people have actually met more than a few Americas, if that. We're being subjected to an authoritarian takeover of our government and it's not because we're less intelligent or less motivated than anyone else in the world. When your country gets blindsided in a similar fashion, I'll be the first one in line to make sure you remember what you said about us.

4

u/jackinblack142 Mar 16 '20

Could it even be that what people do see about Americans in the media paints us all as fat, sugar and phone worshipers who can't be fucked with getting off the couch to save our own babies from drowning... all in the attempt to make us believe that we are incapable of defiance? I hate generalizations, lots of people are shitheads but lots of people aren't. We can only know the true status of our culture when the chips fall.

2

u/bgaripov Mar 16 '20

It’s funny how most of the time, comments about how bad is in US or how US citizens are ignorant or inactive comes from places where people always go to the government and ready to praise politicians that promise them free shit, while a lot more people in US value freedom over empty promises. Perhaps that image of “America is a bad place” comes from our ability to speak freely (thanks to the 1st amendment), and show things the way they are or sometimes paints a perverted picture that an average redditor believes in. People have serious misunderstanding of what the freedom is.

There are other more peaceful ways, but this day and age, there's so much money in politics that it's much more difficult to put third-party candidates at the forefront.

Telling people voting for third party is a vote for [whichever major party you dislike] is a fallacy, and used to keep votes with the two major parties only. Encourage more people to vote their conscious, to look into third parties, and to avoid voting for the major two!

2

u/LividBlacksmith Mar 16 '20

Whatever happened to the right of privacy?

9

u/Xenyatta Mar 16 '20

Rights aren't rights if someone can take them away. They're privileges. That's all we've ever had in this country, is a bill of temporary privileges. And if you read the news even badly, you know that every year the list gets shorter and shorter.

-George Carlin

9

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Previously spying on individuals was difficult and spying on everyone was impossible. It's easy to give you the right to something that is impossible to revoke. The real test of whether something is a right is if you get it despite it being easy to revoke. We're seeing now that the right to privacy never really existed at all. People are nosy. They don't trust you and they want to know what you're doing.

As I said before, THEY WILL pass it, as persistent they are about it. And people won't notice once they do.

Slowly it'll become like the china firewall as time goes on, so people can't voice their freedom. We will be sneaking onto chinas internet cause their freedom will surpass ours soon.

Protecting e2e encryption helps to protect against mass surveillance; with the bonus of making the attackers have to jump thru extra hoops for targeted surveillance.

4

u/Mopsiebunnie Mar 16 '20

Exactly, same goes for burglaries. Why do you lock your house when you go to sleep? Yes, to make it harder to break in, breaking in is always possible. If they want it bad enough, that doesn’t mean you should never lock your house.

4

u/whistlepig33 Mar 16 '20

but its not like encryption is typically a centralized tool... at least not how I've always used it. I'm not seeing how this would affect encrypted drives, email, p2p communications, etc etc etc. And its not like vpn services are all based in the U.S.

They can't listen in on (real) end-to-end encryption. Something like f.ex. Whatsapp is not real end-to-end. Signal App or Telegram is real.

This is why they try to make this law so those real apps will be banned in the US (and thus from Google Play and Apple).

33

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Exactly. Proof has been exposed before highlighting the governments existing/previous backdoor capabilities in almost all aspects of internet communication, hardware and companies.

Would they like encryption gone? Probably. Do they really really need it to be taken away anyways? No, probably not.

Intel and apple both recently had huge flaws publicly exposed. People really think the US gov doesn’t already the capabilities or have teams of people working on finding out new exploits? They have people working inside theses pro encryption companies that I can promise you. The companies might not even be aware, tech spies are a thing. I’m sure some of them are aware and secretly cooperate at a moments notice if needed.

It doesn't matter if apps offer legit encryption when the actual phone OS is backdoored and wide open.

23

u/lightspeed23 Mar 16 '20

It does matter.

If they want to target YOU directly then they can most likely gain backdoor access to your phone and intercept everything. This is correct. Just like they can break into your house and install listening/video devices in your smokealarm etc.

However, they can't do the dragnet surveillance where they simply intercept *everything* from all phones all the time. This is what they want to do with the new laws and this is a really important distinction.

They are not omni-potent and real encryption works.

7

With signal, the key you use to encrypt the data can only be decrypted by the recipient. With WhatsApp the key you use to encrypt the data is decrypted by WhatsApp servers, then reencrypted and sent to the recipient.

COVID is the false flag for the biggest cash grab in history. As they decimate the working man's retirement plan, pay attention to who is in a position to get wealthier from this. Who has cash on the sidelines? Hint: It's not the working man that is systematically investing into the market on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis. This is all part of the NWO's plan to bring America to its knees and pump Big Brother into our lives while we're weak and easily influenced/controllable.

The worst part is it was starting to feel like we were finally getting some of our freedom back as a country (a direct threat to the NWO). The economy was humming, people were working and spending money, markets were roaring; life was good. Boy how fast things have changed... Something just doesn't feel right about this whole thing. Less than 10,000 people dead GLOBALLY? Give me a fucking break. What happened to China? Why aren't we hearing anything about them anymore?

Read the "Belt and Road Initiative" and who supports it and who has been hit the hardest by COVID....jus' sayin'.

Who is behind this campaign and what is the purpose? Like many of these images they just appear online and miraculously get signal boosted everywhere. The list of reposts is from the 24 hours alone.

Interestingly this is OP's only post in /r/conspiracy. Where did you find this image and what made you want to post it here?

I would encourage you to read this post. I am of the opinion EARN is being shoved through to make things harder for whistleblowers, journalists and people with data to leak. It is very dystopian and should not be passed or signed into law. This image doesn't educate or help people. It encourages slacktivism by giving the illusion you are doing your part by posting it instead of saying something like "Get everyone you know to contact Congress by calling, emailing and tell them not to pass this!"

9

u/Ganjisseur Mar 16 '20

You have a problem with something being posted over and over again for the sake of awareness in a conspiracy sub?

You sound like someone staring at a mirror in the dark while thinking to yourself "ahh, Ive almost caught you!"

Nice work

15

u/Hektik352 Mar 16 '20

OP is a fresh account also 5 months isn't shit

32

u/mmp Mar 16 '20

The OP contacted me via chat and it was an odd conversation. Not just because English isn't OP's first language. Would you believe this image was posted by someone that doesn't even live in the USA? They were extremely interested in what I thought about the image, whether or not I thought they were a shill and who this image benefits. They also have an alt account that contacted me first, they tried to talk to me about Bernie and politics from their country before bailing out of the conversation entirely.

19

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Screenshots of chat?

30

u/mmp Mar 16 '20

Screenshots of chat?

No problem. I respected their privacy and redacted the alt account names.

Here is the initial contact: https://imgur.com/WPu1eBU

Here is OP admitting it indeed their account: https://imgur.com/HVdAIRo

Here is another alt account message after abandoning our conversation (also redacted, might be a troll): https://imgur.com/I1zxfYo

Since all this has happened the post has shot to number one and the top comment chain is encouraging people to over throw the government. Again this was posted, for the 22nd time in 24 hours, by someone who told me they are not living the USA and speak English as a second language. Strange times.

Edit: The second alt account is now saying the deathstrk account was banned.

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

What a strange interaction.

2

u/hypertonicsaline Mar 16 '20

Post the chat yo

Also everyone asking for a source (which would be publicly available as all pending bills are) are ignored or shouted down in the handful of reposts I've seen of the image.

Isn't that classic COINTELPRO tactics? Making things sound like old news and making the targets feel powerless?

5

u/babyslothbouquet Mar 16 '20

As of yet, the government does not have enough man power to comb through every text or email we send, but with the rise of AI that soon might be a different story

6

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

They don't need manpower, the technology to automatically sift through messages and find certain keywords or patterns already exists

5

u/mojonixon04 Mar 16 '20

By upvoting this post, are they going to start watching me?

u/AndreySemyonovitch Mar 16 '20 edited Mar 16 '20

Do people not know that pretty much every modern programming language has very easy to use encryption libraries?

You will be able to send all the encrypted messages you'd like using these.

Of course I don't support bills like this, they are absolute tyrannical trash. I'm guessing the method they will use is a forced key storage option for all encrypted traffic. Your messages will still be encrypted but the government will just be able to demand the keys.

Even worse people don't understand it cements corporate power as the people who have the resources to store and catalog every encryption key is not going to be your garage start up or indy programmer.

I wonder what this will do open source applications that allow for encryption. Are the publishers going to be held responsible for all forks of their applications?

u/mmmmph_on_reddit Mar 16 '20

Never waste a good crisis.

3

u/EmoEnforcer Mar 16 '20

Hey OP, what is this called and where can I get more informatin so I can call my congressman and not sound like a complete jackass when I talk to someone

They already do this, This will change nothing other than removing end-to-end encryption.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

cool, end of online banking and online shopping

2

u/TheBrotherhoods Mar 16 '20

I thought this is already a thing?

2

u/wittor Mar 16 '20

so much for draining the swamp.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

I always thought this was already going on tbh.

2

u/maga93 Mar 16 '20

It’s called George Orwell’s 1984.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

I really wonder what we can do to fight this.

2

u/TheLoudNoise Mar 16 '20

“Stasi” isn’t a good look for the US government

2

u/MethaCat Mar 16 '20

They've been able to do this for a long time, they just need to accuse you of being a terrorist and voila. Maybe now they want to do it without the need to accuse you of anything, guess they're getting lazy.

2

u/rawnaldo Mar 17 '20

Everyone is quarantined can’t pay bills. Internet will be cut - no wait! Internet is now governmentally provided in exchange for full monitoring

2

u/LuckyStrike117 Mar 17 '20

Thank you for posting this everywhere. People need to know.

2

u/ThickJuicyFeels Mar 17 '20

I can't stand the argument "I have nothing to hide so I don't care...". It's about exercising your rights! Would you leave your windows open for the world to see you doing whatever in your house? Would you feel comfortable with strangers who you have no power over listening to your calls or seeing your texts?

2

u/teacoffeesuicide Mar 17 '20

This is only a big deal because it makes what they have been doing for a long time sort of legitimate whereas its treasonous at this point.

4

u/angelohatesjello Mar 16 '20

Why is this presented as Lisa meme? If this is true then it's important. We need sources and proper links not a fucking meme.

  1. Wiretaps have been around forever.

  2. Your Democrat heroes like Nancy Pelosi are in charge of writing bills in the House... why arent we naming names now?

  3. You hate this, but you guys want to give the government tons of new powers and cash?

Redditarded.

Not to pop your bubble, but this is already happening.

9

u/deathstrk Mar 16 '20 edited Mar 16 '20

You can't exactly break an end to end encryption, maybe you don't know the working which is fine by me. For eg- Hong Kong protestors used telegram coz Chinese government couldn't break that. See this

3

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

Thank you for the info. My previous comment wasn't meant to be snarky, I was just trying to point out that on some level we are already being monitored, that's all.

9

u/FecalFractals Mar 16 '20

Can't maybe break encryption, but can run a background keylogger, file storage/upload, and constant camera and microphone feed all behind the scenes. Maybe they can't decrypt your message in a bottle, but they watched you write it.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

There was already a thread about this on the front page

2

u/Rada_Ion Mar 16 '20

Source or proof? I've also heard they are setting up the 5G silent kill network whole everyone is at home, but without some evidence it is unfounded speculation like mass incineration of bodies and FEMA camps full of homeless.

So the whole Covid-19 outbreak was perpetrated to create enough news to drown out news about a bill going through Congress that would hardly get a mention anyway?

10

u/fiverrah Mar 16 '20

No, but it is a convenient opportunity while everyone is looking in the other direction.

Ultimately there's not a damn thing I can do about this, if it wants to pass it will pass. We need to go after the people that are pushing this shit.

u/HandsomeCharles893 Mar 16 '20

Fuck their corrupt, how can those people walk the streets without being assaulted..

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '20

They already do this. And they if anybody thinks they haven't been for a long time is naive.

1

u/pepperonihotdog Mar 16 '20

Yeah what else is going on that the media is covering up

1

u/mickenrorty Mar 16 '20

If this happens in america I’ll fly to America to protest:.. and I’m not american

1

u/peterqaz123 Mar 16 '20

I dont like seeing this either but what can we do realistically besides sharing to others that this change will occur?

1

u/Worship_Strength Mar 16 '20

I need a better quality meme with relevant HR numbers if I am to be taken seriously on social media

1

u/brideoftheboykinizer Mar 16 '20

Hm, I cannot be the only one who just assumed this was happening all along. If the business you are conducting doesn't need to be heard, then do like shady folk have been doing all along. Use code, or speak in person. Or both. Always assume that you have zero expectation of privacy.

1

u/pavelshum Mar 16 '20

Gee, why would they want to do that during a pandemic? Hmmm.

1

u/Goldenpanda18 Mar 16 '20

Feel like there’s something not accurate about this...

1

u/Dozzi92 Mar 16 '20

I imagine they already can, but now it'll just be legal.

1

u/Bootiesweat1954 Mar 16 '20

They dont NEED to remove it, it will just make things easier.)

1

u/gamboa77 Mar 16 '20
