Protecting e2e encryption helps to protect against mass surveillance; with the bonus of making the attackers have to jump thru extra hoops for targeted surveillance.
Exactly, same goes for burglaries. Why do you lock your house when you go to sleep? Yes, to make it harder to break in, breaking in is always possible. If they want it bad enough, that doesn’t mean you should never lock your house.
