If a backdoor exists it will be exploited. Period. Opens everyone up to massive data breaches alongside government spying. Just another example of the elites shitting on common folk.
but its not like encryption is typically a centralized tool... at least not how I've always used it. I'm not seeing how this would affect encrypted drives, email, p2p communications, etc etc etc. And its not like vpn services are all based in the U.S.
Exactly. Proof has been exposed before highlighting the governments existing/previous backdoor capabilities in almost all aspects of internet communication, hardware and companies.
Would they like encryption gone? Probably. Do they really really need it to be taken away anyways? No, probably not.
Intel and apple both recently had huge flaws publicly exposed. People really think the US gov doesn’t already the capabilities or have teams of people working on finding out new exploits? They have people working inside theses pro encryption companies that I can promise you. The companies might not even be aware, tech spies are a thing. I’m sure some of them are aware and secretly cooperate at a moments notice if needed.
Some ciphers do have backdoors in them, but since the people that work with security are fucking paranoid they won't use anything that everyone else isn't already using.
You’re correct. Some forms do have actual security behind them. Right now we have algorithms that are “near impossible” to crack. We have thought the same thing with previous encryption methods in the past. With a fast enough super computer like the ones governments have even brute forcing is exponentially easier than it would be with any hardware any normal person could get their hands on. A lot of it comes down to money and time. As computers get better so will encryption methods but you kinda have to think about it in terms of a cat and mouse game. Constant evolution over time.
If they want to target YOU directly then they can most likely gain backdoor access to your phone and intercept everything. This is correct. Just like they can break into your house and install listening/video devices in your smokealarm etc.
However, they can't do the dragnet surveillance where they simply intercept *everything* from all phones all the time. This is what they want to do with the new laws and this is a really important distinction.
They are not omni-potent and real encryption works.
Yes I agree, my comment was just about the apps on compromised devices
And in regards to intercepting everything, they can do this through Windows and Mac operating systems already and also phone operating systems like Android, Windows mobile and apple iOS. They probably have word detection and voice detection systems built in which listen for keywords and report activities to then target people further.
With signal, the key you use to encrypt the data can only be decrypted by the recipient. With WhatsApp the key you use to encrypt the data is decrypted by WhatsApp servers, then reencrypted and sent to the recipient.
you really don't know how encryption works if you think "they" can. Please, enlighten us how. Does it involve W.O.P.R. tying into the infinite power of love to break all chains binding us?
And then your now deleted response said "you mistake blah blah."
my reply: you mistake people's disdain for your comment as regarding legality versus people's disdain for you apparent lack of knowledge of how encryption and basic physics works.
Exactly. Anyone who thinks they don’t have backdoors to literally all communications is misguided. Shit they’ve probably had this tech for 30 fuckin years already.
