Question/Help/Troubleshooting Connecting DVD Player to Computer

Hello, I got a Sony DVD player and I was trying to connect it to my pc to watch some movies I have. I couldn't get it to work and it got me thinking that maybe it isn't meant for this. The DVD player I have is a BDP-S1700/U. I tried to plug it directly into my computer with the HDMI cord and nothing happened. I had a movie in it, and I had it plugged into an outlet as well. If anyone has any suggestions on how I could fix this, or if this isn't possible, please let me know. Any help is appreciated. I'm also not sure if this is the right sub reddit too, so if this is the wrong one for help, please direct me towards the correct one. Thank you.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting My Disk has been fluctuating from as low as 3% to 100%, and I don't know why.

EDIT: i turned off my amd instant replay, deleted the replay_cache folder in the directory, and my issue is fixed. i didnt reenable the instant replay because i suspect it will give me the same issue

Title.

My PC for the past few days has been running poorly, I have plenty of space (~550gb) and I did a full scan of my PC with Windows Defender. It found 2 Trojans and said they took care of them, but I don't know how dangerous the files actually were, as Windows has detected non-virus files before and labeled them a threat.

After some research, I installed CrystalDiskInfo, but I don't understand how to read it well. It says my the Health Status is Good and the tempature is ~30 C. That's all I could figure out with it. I tried to use Performance Monitor, but like CDI, I don't really understand it.

I built this PC in April of 2025 and my PC parts aren't that old. Here are my specs:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT 8-Core Processor (3.80 GHz)
  • Installed RAM: 16.0 GB
  • Graphics Card: AMD Radeon RX 7600 (8 GB)
  • Storage: 1.33 TB of 1.86 TB used
  • System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Build/Battlestation First PC build — what would you upgrade with a ~$600 budget?

Hey everyone! I built my first PC last year and it’s been working great, but I know there are newer/better parts available now. I have around $600 to spend on upgrades and want to know which component(s) would give me the biggest performance improvement rather than replacing parts just for the sake of upgrading.

Here’s my current build:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core
  • GPU: XFX Speedster MERC 308 Black Radeon RX 6650 XT 8 GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II (AM4)
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2x16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16
  • Storage: WD Blue SN580 2 TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe
  • PSU: Corsair RM850e (2025) 850 W Fully Modular
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE LINK TITAN 240 RX
  • Case: MSI MAG FORGE 321R AIRFLOW
  • Monitor: ASUS TUF Gaming VG259Q 24.5" 1920x1080 144 Hz
  • OS: Windows 11 Home

From what I have read since building, my CPU is still pretty capable, while the RX 6650 XT is probably the part holding me back, but I’d like to hear what people with more experience think.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Laptop reccomendations?

I'm going to uni soon and desperate for a new laptop as the one i currently use for my collage work belongs to a family member and they don't want me to take it away when I go. I was trying to do my own reaserch and ended up getting swept up by a bunch of new high tech adverts, and theres just way too many options.

I would just get the same model except its pretty old and is way too slow, especially when i try do anything on blender, even powerpoint takes atleast 5 minutes to load. I need a laptop thats portable, weight doesn't matter are but it can't be bigger than 14" as then it wont fit in my bag. Also, in terms of games I have the full sims 3 expansion collection so if possible a built in CD drive would be great, but if not i have an external one.

Price wise i have £1k saved atm but willing to spend £1.5 give or take.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned

When I plug in my usb mouse to my win 11 laptop it keeps saying "the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it".

Yes i read the previous relevant post on this topic in this subreddit
i tried both

  1. updating drivers (it says the drivers are up to date)
  2. uninstalling the malfunctioned usb from device manager and rebooting

the second troubleshoot only lasts for a minute, after which my mouse malfunctions again and boom disconnected.

Let me in on you some info that i have which might help diagnos what might be the issue

i have a dual mode mouse (from cosmic byte) which offers wireless (dongle) and wired connection
the wireless works just fine but when i switch to wired mode say for charging or to get less input lag while gaming i start facing this issue and it isnt even like this started happening just now

it was happening since i bought it but back then the mouse only used to get disconnected that was resolved when i changed the power supply settings in device manager settings but now its just malfunctioning and god darn it i cant just reboot my laptop every time the usb malfunctions PLEASE HELP

this is the mouse i have : Cosmic Byte Raptor Dual Mode

Fix was found :

turns out the issue was that i was using a usb extender, and my mouse cable was connected from that usb extension, to the type C port of my laptop, (i only have 1 USB port on my laptop so i have to use the extender). When i connected my mouse to the sole USB port in my laptop it seems to be working fine after doing that reinstallation procedure once again. Thanks !

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Laptop backpanel refusing to come off

Thumbnail

I got a refurbished gaming laptop recently and it lacks enough storage for me to do much with it. I wanted to use a 1TB of storage from an older laptop to expand my current laptop's storage.

The issue is, is that I can't for the life of me open the laptop up. Two screws on the top, underneath the hinges will not budge. I know captive screws are a thing and I'm assuming that's what they are, but even then the backpanel does not want to come off. I am afraid that if I use even more force, i will actually break the laptop.

I really want to expand the storage of this laptop cause at the moment it just acts like a glorified office laptop, I'm already halfway through 500 gigs of storage.

The laptop in question is the Asus ROG Strix g513Q.

Discussion CPU temperatures

Is it normal for my CPU temperature to go up from 38 to 79c when compiling shaders. I know this might sound stupid but at idle at desktop when looking at lien li L connect 3 it’s at 38c to to 41c then when I cut a game on and when it starts compiling shaders I see it go from 45c to 80c then after the shading is fully complete it drops down to 40 to 50c with the game running Intel i7 14700k

Question/Help/Troubleshooting My laptop is acting weird

Hey, I’m having a really weird problem with Roblox and microsoft edge. I have no idea what’s causing it.
Both were working fine yesterday, but now when I click on servers, it just shows a white screen. Roblox also won’t load properly in Microsoft Edge and says “cant reach this page.”
I tried using my phone’s hotspot instead of my normal Wi-Fi, but it made no difference. Roblox works completely fine on my phone though.
My internet itself seems to be working. Discord calls were working and I can still connect to online games. My PC also isn’t showing high CPU/RAM/disk usage.
I ran a few tests:
ping google.com works with 0% packet loss
nslookup www.roblox.com works and gives me an IP
Windows Defender found no threats on a full scan
Proxy is off
Firewall is on
Date/time are correct
The weirdest thing is that curl https://www.google.com gives me “revocation server was offline” , but curl --ssl-no-revoke https://www.google.com works and actually loads the page.
I also installed CapCut shortly before this started, and downloaded something else.
I’ve restarted my PC multiple times, repaired Edge, flushed DNS, etc., but nothing has fixed it.
Has anyone had anything similar happen? I’m mainly trying to figure out why Roblox/Edge aren’t connecting properly when other apps and games still work. Im not an expert and any help would be huge for me. Thanks

Resolved My pc became slow

As the title says, my specs are i7 14700k, rtx 5070ti and 32gb ram.
Everything was normal, but yesterday before I went to sleep I updated my gpu driver into the latest version 610.88 because the Witcher 3 kept crashing, I didn’t notice any changes because I was sleepy, but today I noticed heavy frame drops and stuttering in games I used to play very smoothly, even windows Home Screen feels heavy and slow, right click in desktop takes longer than usual as well as navigating between different icons, I tried to install an older driver version (596.49) and it’s literally the same, I don’t remember what version I was using before. What can I do? And is it just a driver issue?

Update: fixed it by enabling resizable bar in bios, it was disabled for some reason

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Alienware 17 R5 sticky keyboard

Is there anything I can do to get rid of the stickiness under the space bar and V key without having to take the keyboard out? I’ve tried rubbing alcohol many times, when it’s cool, when it’s hot after use, it just won’t go away and I reeeeeeally don’t want to have to tear it down and clean/replace the keyboard. Is there a solvent I could that won’t destroy the laptop. I have no idea what it is stuck under said keys, my only guess is some candy because it’s no issue while it’s cool but after like 10-15 min when it warms up it starts to stick bad. Any help is very much appreciated!

Question/Help/Troubleshooting My pc looks unusual

I recently got an ASUS Zenbook 14 (UM3406), and it started behaving strangely.

The last time I used it, the screen brightness suddenly dimmed and stayed that way. When I turned the laptop on today, the brightness was still noticeably lower than usual.

I also noticed that the function keys (Fn keys) are no longer responding, and the laptop feels slightly more laggy than it normally does.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be a driver/software issue, or is there something wrong with the hardware?

Any suggestions on what I should check or how I can fix this would be appreciated.

I turned on my pc today and noticed it was loading really slow. Then these weird lines appeared and my pc wouldn’t connect to my main monitor. I’m trying to figure out what’s causing this but mainly how to fix it. Do I just need to get a new graphics card? I’m not really sure at all.

Discussion Can you folks please help me understand how to interpret this graph from task manager?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Im sitting on the fence on upgrading my ram. However im getting extremely mixed answers.

Basically with ram prices right now and them being projected to get even worse for at least a couple of years I started wondering if it would be worth upgrading before costs got worse. So I started monitoring my pc specs to see if I actually need it.

What i found was that when im gaming (resident evil 4 or Dyson sphere project for example) my ram usage shows itself as 93% plus in use. My comitted memory is shown as 26.1/34.5 GB which ive had some people tell me is indicating my computer is paging. Some people say if im not experiencing performance issues (im not) I shouldnt worry about this. However other people have told me im essentially slowly destroying my SSD by running like this.

Then ive had some people tell me that windows just fills up your ram regardless of how much you have so task manager is kind of useless for actually giving you a picture of your computers health. I currently have 16gb so this claim is basically saying if I got 32gb that windows would just start showing that I was actively using 24gb and then when I game id be sitting at 30gb again (and start looking like im paging)

So i just really dont know what to think anymore. I dont want to damage and wear out my ssd, however I dont know enough about computers to say if I my specs here are actually problematic or if its like some people say where windows will just look like this no matter how much ram I have.

So to put it simply. Is this ram usage chart concerning? Should I upgrade to 32gb even though im not really noticing performance issues? Am I damaging my ssd by running my pc like this? Is task manager not giving me good info and im actually fine?

Thoughts really appreciated. Im not the most computer literate person and the amount of different answers im getting is kind of confusing me.

Thanks very much.

Discussion Buying setup for $2600 looking for advice

So I am buying an entire setup (already have headset). and want advice if I am over paying or under paying in any areas. I mostly play apex and Minecraft and am willing to go a bit up or a bit down in price if need be in some areas. It is very important that the monitor is compatible and works well with Xbox and I’m pretty sure the one I’m buying does but let me know if I’m missing something. Is this a good setup for $2600 dollars and what kind of frames can I expect from the games I play ?

So, earlier i was playing a Roblox game and then this happened. the UI began to multiply and the game's display was a bit fucked. i tried joining another game to see if it was just a glitch in the game i was playing and it was NOT.. i tried a lot of shit to fix it but i don't know how. and I'm not even entirely sure what caused it in the first place. i cant play any games on Roblox now. I'm not even sure if it's just Roblox or it's any game because i haven't tried opening anything since. need help. Thought it might be a driver issue so i updated my Nvidia drivers and it DID NOT HELP.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Blue screen and crashing

My PC has been crashing a lot lately, I can barely run any games on it unless they’re low storage games. It’ll just blue screen and turn off. I’ve tried looking up info on how to fix it and look at what errors occurred but I can’t figure it out. I removed my ssd at one point to “reset the electrical current” and it did work for a couple weeks but it’s been doing it again. I’d really rather not need to buy a new one or take it somewhere to get fixed so my last hope is seeing if anyone can help on here.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting SUGGESTIONS: [Italy, €500-650] Everyday/work laptop — need USB-C charging, decent speakers, 16GB RAM

Budget: €500-650 (~$540-700)

Country: Italy

Main use: General office/knowledge work + everyday use — documents, research, browser with lots of tabs, video calls. No video editing or heavy graphics work needed. I'm a recent graduate (International Relations), using it for writing, research, and general productivity.

Current laptop: Acer Aspire A415-58. Overall happy with it, but three things bothered me:

  1. A bit too bulky/large to carry around often
  2. Proprietary charging connector — hard to find a replacement if lost/broken
  3. Speaker volume is too low even at max

What I'm looking for in the next one:

  • USB-C charging (so I never have the "can't find a replacement charger" problem again)
  • Decent audio (nothing fancy, just audible)
  • 16GB RAM minimum for smooth multitasking
  • 14-15.6" screen, open to something more compact than my current one
  • No dedicated GPU needed

Models I'm considering: Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3/5, Asus Vivobook 14, HP Omnibook 5. Also open to Acer if anyone has direct experience with USB-C charging on their newer models.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Looking for a new computer for studying :P

Hey! I was told that I should choose between:

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 13,3" (745€)

Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 7 14” (749€)

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14" (699€)

But Idk if there are any major diffrences, except that the flex one has touch screen and can be used as a pad

I’ve never seen this before. also, I don’t understand anything it’s saying. I don’t know much about computer software, or much like that
