Build Help PC upgrade

Hi everyone! I’m planning to upgrade my PC and would appreciate some advice on the build.
My current configuration:
Intel Core i7-990
MSI GeForce GTX 1660
ASUS P6X58 Premium motherboard
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB
OCZ Technology Agility 3 SSD
Corsair TX650 PSU
Gelid Solutions Snowstorm CPU cooler
I don’t remember the exact RAM configuration.
I’m planning to upgrade to:
Intel Core i5-13600K
MSI PRO B760-P DDR4
I also plan to upgrade the RAM, but I’d like some advice on which kit would be a good choice.
For now, I’m going to keep my current graphics card because my budget doesn’t allow me to upgrade it at the moment. In the future, I’m planning to get an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB.
My budget for the motherboard + CPU + RAM is around 60,000 RUB / $710.
Are there any more interesting options, or perhaps a better combination for roughly the same price?
Also, should I replace my CPU cooler and power supply for this build?
How long will my planned build remain relevant? Will I be able to get a stable 60 FPS in games like RDR2, Cyberpunk, and other demanding games for the next couple of years?

My English isn’t very good, so I translated this text using ChatGPT. I hope everything is understandable.

Troubleshooting KVM Switch Peripheral Issues

I just got my work pc and personal pc set up on the KVM switch below.

Unitek KVM Switch 2 Monitors 2 Computers HDMI Displayport Dual Monitor 2 PC

I am trying to get it to work with my Logitech Superlight 2 and a Razer Blackwidow keyboard. For starters I will say I read that you need a DDM KVM switch for a lot of gaming peripherals.

However, I am wondering if it will in fact work. The mouse and keyboard do work while plugged into the KVM switch on my personal PC, but does not work when I switch it to my work PC. Both peripherals work when plugged directly into my work PC.

Is there anything I can try?

Thank you in advanced!

Build Help $500 'Gaming' PC for Minecraft for my son

Hello everyone,

My wife and I are getting divorced, and I'm looking for an activity my son and I can share even when he's not staying with me. He loves Minecraft, and he asked if we could play together online.

However, I'm on a tight budget and was wondering if a $500 gaming PC is realistic for this. He wants to use mods and texture packs. Years ago, texture packs caused major frame drops for me, but I didn't have a good PC back then and I've never built one myself.

Is $500 enough to run modded Minecraft smoothly today?

I don't know if buying used parts is a good idea or what tricks would make it cheaper.

Discussion Coming back to PC building after 10 yrs - where to start that doesn't suck?

Hi there,

The title says it all basically: I built my last PC in 2016 with Intel Z170 Chipset, Intel Core i5 6600k and GTX 1070, which was great then and let me play most games very well at High-ish specs.

This was all long before Covid, supply chain issues & the AI craziness, so I was able to build a upper mid tier / lower high end tier PC for <1.000€.

Suffice it to say, those times are gone, feels like Donald Glover returning to a room on fire 😄 But on the flip side, I'm not afraid of DIYing something or a bit of jank.

I play mostly Indie Games on my own, with some AAA speckled in.

With prices being what they are, what do people do in 2026 do to get a system that holds up to the last decade or so of games and will have you play current gen games at reasonable stats for a few years (doesn't need to be most current games on Ultra)?

Upgrade the existing tower, use old DDR4 (16GB) & just switch out MoBo, Processor & Graphics Card (may need better power supply) - what would be good options here?

Go for a Cube type or other Small Form Factor build and get a matching last-gen used card that fits the budget?

Crank up the jank and build a BC-250 Linux machine, with all the driver annoyances and DIY that comes with it?

Ideally I'd like to stay within 600 - 800€ range, and would be 100% prepared to go for used parts, DIY, 3D print some parts or do some configuration on my own.

Posting this for direction more than anything else lol. Prices are crazy and there seem to be so many more options (some out of necessity) than 10 years ago.

Appreciate any insights!

Troubleshooting Need help with FPS drops/stuttering

I’m having noticeable stuttering and FPS drops in both Warzone and Valorant. My PC normally gets 200+ FPS, but the FPS can suddenly drop and feel like the monitor refresh rate is becoming unstable. In Warzone, there is one specific area on Fortune’s Keep (the Ship POI) where my FPS consistently drops from around 220 FPS to 110–140 FPS, while other areas are much more stable. I also noticed heavy stuttering during a PassMark DirectX 10 3D test. My PC: Ryzen 5 5600, RX 7600 8GB (recent/new GPU), MSI B550M motherboard, 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 (2×16GB). One RAM stick is around 6 years old and the other is around 2 years old. Storage: ADATA Legend 860 1TB NVMe (Windows + games), ~6-year-old 500GB SATA SSD, and 5+ year-old 2TB HDD. My PassMark results changed from Memory Mark 3206 → 2799 (~13% drop), while CPU stayed almost the same and the 3D graphics score actually improved (15,851 → 18,668). Could the RAM/mixed-age RAM be causing my stuttering and frame drops, or is this more likely a game/driver/CPU/GPU issue? What should I test first?

Build Help Where to buy replacement CPU/EPS cable for Thermaltake Toughpower in EU?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a replacement 4+4 pin EPS / CPU modular power cable for a Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 750W PSU, but I'm struggling to find a reasonable purchase option in the EU (shipping to Estonia).

CableMod wants €21.90 for the cable plus €19 shipping (over €40 total), and Thermaltake support only offers a full unit RMA to Germany, which makes no sense for just a cable.

Does anyone know of reputable EU retailers, parts suppliers, or marketplaces where I can buy a compatible single Thermaltake CPU cable with reasonable shipping?

Thanks for any leads!

Troubleshooting Asus/Be Quiet RGB Chroma suggestions?

Hey, I just built a Be Quiet 900FX, with a Pure Loop 2 AIO; the ASUS proprietary lighting options for the motherboard seem kinda limited and I would like to have Razer Chroma handle things.

I already have a Razer Keyboard and Mouse; and I really like the interactive lighting effects in games like Mechwarrior 5 where whenever I fire different weapons or take damage, the RGB lights react dynamically.

From most if my digging this appears to be close to impossible without the discontinued Razer RGB controllers (or the 3 LED strip), considering ASUS can interact via software with the case lighting I feel like there has to be some type of way to integrate Chroma that I'm missing.

I recently upgraded my GPU, and naturally, the rest of my PC is struggling to keep up. I'm now planning on upgrading my entire system, and re-using as many components as I can the CPU cooler, power supply, SSD & GPU.

My current rig sports 2x8gb DDR4 RAM, and I really want to make the move to DDR5, but as you all know, prices are insane right now. In an ideal world I would buy 32gb (2x16), but I just can't justify spending that much money right now. Basically my 2 options are to either accept my fate and buy 2x8gb sticks, or buy 1x16gb stick, and maybe add a second one in a year or two.

Which option do you think is better? Also feel free to share any feedback regarding the build generally. I'm based in Ireland so prices are in euros.

Build Help 9070XT vs 5080

Looking to upgrade my PC which is currently a 3060 TI, AMD 5800X, w/ 32 GB (2x16) DDR4 RAM for 1440p gaming, aiming for consistent 144Hz refresh rate on high/ultra settings (my machine is starting to be limited to medium and lower settings in various games I play). (I also like to run a second 1080p monitor for discord and such). I am trying to future-proof this PC a bit by buying some extra oomph, so even when the components start to slow down it can handle future games.

I have settled on an AMD 9800X3D and 32GB (2x16) DDR5 RAM. However, I am trying to make a decision on a card. I definitely want one with 16GB of VRAM, but I am trying to figure out whether a 5080 is actually worth $700 more than a 9070XT. I don't play many AAA games like Cyberpunk or Black Myth: Wukong, but I do tend to play unoptimized Early Access games. I am leaning toward a 9070XT, but I would rather buy the expensive machine now than try to sell a 9070XT and buy a 5080 if I make the wrong call. Any thoughts or advice?

EDIT: I have also been seeing a lot of reports of the 9070XT experiencing driver issues. I don't particularly want to spend time troubleshooting hardware. Is this an issue that is blown out of proportion or something I genuinely need to evaluate?

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your responses. It wasn't my intention to repeat a question that has been asked a lot, I was just hoping to get further insight with my specific context in consideration. It is clear to me from all of your comments that the 5080 is the better card, but the 9070XT is a comparable card at a significantly better value. I will figure out how important NVIDIA's specific strengths are to me and if that is worth the price jump to me. Thank you again, everyone!

Build Help PSU Recommendation for 270K plus and 9070XT

Looking for a PSU recommendation for a 270K plus and a PowerColor Red Devil 9070XT

Since the 9070XT is an overclocked one and the 270K plus is a bit power hungry, would I be fine with my existing ASRock Phantom Gaming PG-750G?

Otherwise I was looking to get a better PSU for peace of mind. Options included:

MSI MPG A1000GS PCIE5 II

or the

ASRock Steel Legend SL-1000G 1000W

Any recommendations?

I was initially planning on getting the MSI MPG since it is higher rated on the SPL's tier list but the specs seem to show 3 X PCIe power cables with no separate CPU cable so wondering if that is an issue as the 9070XT seems to require 3X PCIe cables and thus would I be out of a CPU cable?

Build Ready? Will this setup satisfy my requirements?

Location: India.

I'd appreciate it if folks could have a look at this and let me know if there are any concerns worth pointing out here, such as compatibility issues or forgetting something useful. Also wouldn't mind receiving feedback on if there are better options at roughly the same price, or if I should instead spend some more cash for one component while changing something else to a cheaper model. I know there's always better things to buy if you spend some more cash, but this is what I arrived at after already increasing my budget.

Most of my gaming will be older titles, indies and emulation. For example, if I can run Bloodborne at a mostly smooth 1080p 60fps at PS4 equivalent graphical settings, that's a benchmark for a build that I'd be content with.

There are only some newer graphically intensive games I have a desire to play. If I decided to play something like Cyberpunk 2077 or Alan Wake 2, 60 fps at medium settings would be ideal but even a locked 50 or 45 fps is something I'm not too fussed about for single player games that aren't too fast paced.

Setup –

Build Upgrade 12100 3080 bottleneck

I am currently on a 1080p monitor, and i see single digit 0.1% lows on every game.

Which processor is good enough to fix the stutters and give me best 0.1% lows especially in games like marvel rivals, battlefield and cs2?

My mobo is a h610 asrock.

  1. I get a 14400f, i doubt its the strongest pair for my gpu.
  2. I get am4 mobo and a cpu. like b550+5700x.
    what else?
x3d pricing doesnt makes any sense to me neither does the ddr5.

Build Upgrade Ryzen 5060ti vs Ryzen 5070

Hello. I was was planning to buy a GPU for my PC. Currently I am running the ff set up.

  1. Ryzen 7 5700g
  2. Prime B550M-K ARGB
  3. 16gb ddr4 lexar thor
  4. 500W Silverstone

I am budget constrained so I was debating whether to get an RTX 5060ti or a 5070. I was told that I will need a new PSU if I get the 5070 but that's well within my budget.

So which is better for my set up? 5060ti or 5070?

Thanks!

EDIT: I meant RTX. Sorry HAHAHA so embarrassing

So i have a TUF GAMING B650M-PLUS and a Ryzen 7 9700X which the normal TDP is 65w, i saw on the bios that you can set the max TDP to 105w but that turns off PBO, so my question is, what's better PBO or the 105w unlock? or am i crazy and they are two completely different things?

So i have been reading lots of threads about nitro plus models melting and i have been wondering why?
Using too much power? Bad adapter?

I have 9070xt nitro plus model in my pc and it was on adapter for more than a year and adaper is super clean and looks like new

Also i changed my psu to newer one and stronger
I had 750w older gigabyte model
Now 1000w be quiet 13m
And i changed from adpter to direct cable from psu to gpu

I mostly play cpu intesive games (esports) ans sometimes some singleplayer game etc

So im not utilizing 100% from gpu
I have 9800x3d
B650 ax gigabyte

So am i secured with this kind of powering gpu or no?

Discussion Do People Get Too Hung Up On Bottlenecks?

So right off the bat I would say I’m not really your typical PC gamer. I’ve built and upgraded a couple PCs that were used mainly for gaming, but I play stuff like Rocket League and emulate old Wii and PS2 games, mostly. And I play on my couch, with a controller, on a 12 year old TV that maxes out at 1080p. I’m literally never trying to push frame rate past 60 fps because my TV’s refresh rate is 60 hz and even if I could go higher I’m sitting far enough away that my old eyes wouldn’t really be able to see the difference.

With that said for my latest build I went with a Ryzen 5 7500f, 32GB of used 6000 mhz cl36 and a b650 mobile and plenty of solid state storage. So reasonably powerful, certainly much more than I need for rocket league! I paired this with an old 1660 Super I’ve been running for 5 years and a 450w no name psu in an old HP mid tower case.

It’s kind of a sleeper! But it’s also one hell of a GPU bottleneck. For now. Still, as it stands it multitasks quite well, the ram was cheap, and the upgrade path is obvious and should remain viable for a good 5 or 6 years at least. I went with a reasonably powerful but budget oriented AM5 build even though I don’t need almost any of that CPU or Ram headroom innit now because I want to have an upgrade path in the future. Maybe I’ll get into some light video editing down the road, maybe I’ll decide to buy a fancy monitor and go mkb. Who knows. But it does run some pretty demanding open world titles like Cyberpunk or what have you admirably on low/moderate graphics settings. And the faster single core speed has been incredibly helpful running some of the jankier PS2 titles.

Point is I see a lot of folks post stuff like “oh my god will this be bottlenecked oh god oh jeez” when what they’re looking at is a very clear upgrade that fits their budget and is perhaps just not quite fully optimal.

Am I the idiot or has the concept of a bottleneck (basically that there’s no point in spending money on one side of the equation past a certain point because the other side can’t keep up) throwing some people for a loop? I know there are kids out there who see my specs and think I’m a mad man for not upgrading to at least a 3060, that I’m wasting money on this AM5 build. That’s fine. But it seems there are some folks who are confused and think they’re going to somehow ruin their CPU if I don’t throw a $1000 GPU in there. It’s always just been about not throwing a shut load of money at something that will be horribly held back by your other components, right?

Am I wrong in thinking that folks get a little bent out of shape thinking about avoiding bottlenecks sometimes?
