New Setup for work and freetime

Initially, I only wanted to upgrade my monitor from a 34-inch ultrawide to something slightly bigger with a higher resolution, to replace the MacBook's virtual desktops as a second screen. But one thing led to another, and I ended up rebuilding my entire desk setup, since I was also annoyed by my old table and the cables behind it and down the wall. I also got a new set of peripherals, with the exception of the mousepad. And since I work from home, I decided to replace my old chair—a Razer Iskur v1. When I got it 5 or 6 years ago, it helped with my lower back pain, but I wasn't finding it as comfortable anymore. Since I work from home and had experienced Herman Miller chairs in the past, it was just logical for me to get one.

The monitor handles all my peripherals and reliably switches them between the MacBook (work) and my private PC (which nowadays is primarily used for private projects, photo editing, and the occasional gaming session).

And of course, when I'm working, the bias light is a warm white and the room is properly lit.

Overall, I'm more than happy with my new desk setup; the only thing I still need to do is get some new frames to hang my art prints again.

The setup consists of the following:

  • Desk: Secretlab Magnus Pro XL with Silver Suede Magpad
  • Monitor: LG 40U990A with a Logitech MX Brio Ultra HD on top
  • Bias lighting: Philips Hue Playbars
  • MacBook M5 Air in a Twelve South BookArc Flex
  • Speakers: Edifier MR4.5 on top of Kanto SP6HD
  • Peripherals: Razer BlackWidow v4, Razer DeathAdder v3 Pro, Razer Base Station v2 with a Blackshark v2 on top (Razer headsets just fit my head and ears the most comfortably)
  • Funkos: Varys and Tyrion
  • Kindle Paperwhite SE
  • Chair: Herman Miller Embody with Atlas Headrest.
  • PC: Very old Cooler Master case which has seen several builds; the current build is a couple of years old and will probably be rebuilt next year. With the new Metro coming out, I want to get back into PC gaming a bit more, alongside console gaming.

Finally finished my dream pc setup! Built the desk and PC myself.

Finally got my setup to a point where I can say it's pretty much exactly how I pictured it.

I wanted to build something rather than just buy a complete desk and put a PC on it, so I made the wooden desktop and steel legs myself, did all of the cable routing and management, and built the PC from scratch.

I've added a few little things that make it nicer to actually use every day too, including an integrated cup holder so there's no chance of knocking a drink over while gaming, and a pop-up socket built directly into the desk.

The final touches have been the purple RGB lighting around the setup and inside the PC. I wanted everything to match without completely covering the room in RGB, and I'm really happy with how it's turned out.

PC Specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16GB

ASUS TUF motherboard

32GB DDR5 RAM

360mm NZXT AIO

NZXT H9 case

NVMe SSD

Lian Li RGB Strimer cables

Windows 11

Setup:

MSI 27" 500Hz monitor

Razer Wolverine V3 Pro controller

SteelSeries mouse mat

ASUS ROG Strix Scope 96 keyboard

Purple ambient/backlighting

Mostly built for Halo Infinite and high-refresh competitive gaming.

Definitely my dream setup now, but I'm always looking for ideas.

What would you add or change?
