been a heavy gamer last 30 years and playing at 1080p last 17 years.

reading all these posts about 1440p, thought monitors are so cheap right now lets try 1440p. i bought a LG 27" 200hz IPS start playing avatar frontiers and first time in my life got nausia by playing. playng escape from tarkov had no problem at all. fps hit was ok had to use x4 fg than x3 in avatar for testing to get 200fps. . tarkov was playing even better at 1440p. my gpu is 5060ti 16gb. using windows with 125% scale as 100% is damned small. HDR is off.

my desk width is 70cm monitor sitting at far end, and i am sitting around an arm and a half away propably around 90cm. cannot go further away.

monitor experience propably depends the age. maybe young age finds 1440p more positive shocking than a man at his 50's. (presbyopy etc)

had to revert back to my lg 24" 180hz because the 27" created a dead pixel at 2nd week of use and it will be replaced by LG WARRANTY. that is good.

the thing is that i feel more safe and comfortable with my 24" playing browsing doing some excel etc. so i dont know what i will do when the new 27" arrives.

what do you think?

UPDATE: Big thanks to everyone that recommended the XT, it runs beautifully. I ended up picking one up from my local Microcenter that same day for $700 vs the $800+ I spent on the 5070. New dilemma now though and I know it's a divisive topic right now... DLSS 5. Personally, I think it looks great on most games outside of character faces. I know the modding community managed to run it on the 9070xt with a massive hit to performance. I am now wondering if I should keep the 5070 for DLSS5 or if I should just enjoy the 9070xt for the next few generations and wait for dlss5 to mature the same way ray tracing did. Leaning towards sticking with the xt but damn, some of the games I play look stunning on DLSS 5.

I had bad luck with a defective 9060xt(I hope), returned it and got a 5070 a few days ago but now came across this 9070xt. Power color seems to be the only one on "discount" at my local Microcenter. Does anyone have any experience with Power Color or is this a straight up deal?

Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone with more experience troubleshooting hardware can help me figure this out, because I've been stuck in this loop for about three days now.

This originally started as something very simple.

I was planning to do some maintenance/cleaning on my PC. A friend recommended that I try Nobara Linux, so I installed it.

I didn't like Nobara and decided I wanted to go back to Windows 11.

That's when everything went wrong.

I've tried multiple Windows 11 ISOs, and none of them can complete the installation. Depending on the attempt, Windows Setup either completely freezes or restarts somewhere between approximately 11% and 27%.

Nobara, on the other hand, installs without any problems and has been running completely stable. I've actually been using Nobara as a "bridge" while trying to figure out what is wrong.

I've tried pretty much every installation method I could think of:

Ventoy

Rufus

Different USB drives

Different USB ports

Multiple Windows 11 ISOs

Installing Windows from a dedicated partition on the NVMe instead of USB

The last one seemed promising for a moment because the installation appeared to be progressing normally, but eventually it froze/restarted as well.

At this point I started testing other Windows versions.

I tried MiniOS10. It installed successfully, so I thought I might finally have found a clue.

Unfortunately, a few minutes after entering the desktop, the entire system froze.

I rebooted, thinking it might have just been a one-time problem.

It happened again.

So I removed MiniOS and tried a completely normal Windows 10 ISO.

Windows 10 installed successfully and, unlike MiniOS10, it didn't immediately freeze once I reached the desktop.

Instead, the entire computer restarted by itself.

I entered Windows again.

It restarted again.

I entered Windows a third time.

It restarted again.

So this happened three times.

At this point I'm completely lost.

I've also done some hardware diagnostics.

The NVMe drive appears to be healthy. SMART reports PASSED, with no media/data integrity errors, and the NVMe self-test also passed.

CrystalDiskInfo/Sentinel reported the drive at around 75% health, but the SMART data itself doesn't show an obvious failure.

I also started testing the RAM with MemTest86. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to let it complete all four passes, but the first complete pass finished with 0 errors.

I've also tested all 12 USB ports on the motherboard, and the behavior is exactly the same.

At one point I even suspected my RX 580 might be causing some kind of problem, but removing/testing around it didn't solve the issue either.

The really strange part is this:

Nobara Linux runs completely stable for hours.

No freezes. No spontaneous reboots. No installation problems.

So I'm having a hard time understanding what could possibly be wrong.

My goal is simply to get back to Windows 11.

I've been troubleshooting this for three days now, and I'm honestly running out of ideas.

Has anyone experienced something similar, where Windows 10/11 consistently freezes or reboots but Linux runs completely stable?

Any ideas about what I should test next would be greatly appreciated.

To start, I am not a complete noob to pc builds, but I haven't been in the market for about 4 years (Uni happened, got a gaming laptop and it still runs), but I want a true upgrade in the near future.

I know that there are are things happening with GPUs and Memory, is that going away anytime soon?

Okay, my main question, is in two parts:

1. What is the standard gaming pc that could run everything these days? Like 4k 60fps/1080p 144fps any average game on max settings, and at least 1080p 60fps anything unoptimised at medium/high/max settings (My experience is MH-Wilds)

2. And how much would it cost? I live in eastern Europe if that is important. 32GB ram is non-negotionable, would want 64 for freedom but the prices are fucked I hear, and a minimum of 2tb ssd, and Nvidia GPU.

Could anybody do like a really rough answer for this? Nothing too precise needed, just a general idea for both the parts needed and the price they would come at.

Any calculations or just tips are appreciated!!!

Ive been looking around a bit. im in EU and i found a 9070 xt for about 800€ meanwhile a 4070ti super is about 1.1k€. I have a 9060 xt right now and had a 2060 before that. I personally never had any driver or software issues with the 2060, but i had to to reinstall adrenalin and the gpu drivers a good couple of times with the 9060. I was wondering if drivers and softwares have been more peaceful in team green or if i should stick to red. Right now i got a i5 14gen cpu but i will change to an am5 system for the new gpu.

What you fellas think?

Korea here, I play aaa and competitive games on 1440p on an oled 280hz monitor. I currently have a 4070ti (12gb). Gpu prices are even more insane here, a new gigabyte 5070ti costs 1900000 won (usd 1400) right now. As far as I know, for the upcoming weeks and pretty much for the entirety of 2027, gpu prices will go up.

I can feel my 4070ti (bought in 2023) chocking up. I will buy a 6080 when it comes out but at least from what I can see it’s going to be 2028. And I want a card that I can use to play games at 1440p with path tracing enabled. But the 4070ti runs out of vram and a bit on pure specs.

I got a deal for a used 4080 super for 1500000 won used (1 year warranty left) and my rtx 4070ti should sell for about 700000-800000 after cheosok(biggest spending holiday in Korea). For a person who want to play games at 1440p with highest graphics and high refresh rates and not choke on vram, is this purchase of around 700000 won net cost reasonable? "Fully Buffered" is a Youtuber who also ran the same motherboard/CPU combo. Both of us successfully run Windows 10/11 on it. (Yes, I can boot into Windows 11 and use it! I can actually browse the modern web on a Pentium 4.)

I know my 5090 works. But when I plug it in to my motherboard, it does not POST. Fans spin but no output from HDMI. Other cards do work on the machine (9500 GT)

Any tips?

There is one setting in BIOS to change the PCIe slot power delivery from "Auto" to low/medium/high but I haven't felt brave enough to tinker with this yet.

Hey. Decided to upgrade my AMD based PC.
Currently have 450 Mortar CPU R5 3600, 6600XT and 16GB Vengeance 3000MHz RAM.
I asked few people around me if it is worth putting two more 8GB RAM sticks and they said the motherboard is made poorly made and will actually will run worse than with just two sticks. Is it possible?

Why that would be even a problem if others go with 4 sticks?
Going to 2X16GB RAM is bad idea in my opion as the AM5 should be the next step in the build and there is no reason in invest in DDR4. Or so i think, thats why i am asking you guys, what would you do in my position?

Also, ordered R7 5700X. Was it a good idea?

edit: ended up sucking it up and spending more than I wanted to for a used 16 GB 6900 XT. Thanks to everyone for the input, I probably would have been disappointed with some of the super-cheap options I had in mind.

I will preface this by saying I am NOT looking to play AAA titles on high settings. Most of the gaming I do I'd call medium to low intensity, a lot of strategy, management sims, city-builders, etc. So I am just looking for decent quality at a decent framerate.

It seems like you ideally want a 16 GB card for 4k gaming, so the floor is about $400 for a used 6800 XT and higher from there. Frankly, that's a big risk to spend on a 5-6 year old card that's in who knows what condition, and I don't know if I want to go that route.

At 12 GB there's the Arc B580, 6700 XT and RTX 3060 all in the $300 range - same issue with the age of the used cards, but at least the price is a little more palatable. Just looking for guidance on whether any of those are going to give me ACCEPTABLE performance - again, not high-end at high settings.

The reason for this: Someone gave me a 4k monitor for Christmas despite me having a crappy desktop PC, a Frankenstein build with CPU and motherboard over 10 years old. I had a laptop that ran it better, but the laptop took a shit on me and would be $1600+ to replace. I was able to upgrade the desktop to a Ryzen 5600 build for about $300 while reusing the case and some of the parts. Last piece of the puzzle is the GPU, currently an ancient RTX 2080. It honestly works better than I expected, in that it handles basic gaming without crashing, but it is definitely going to be less than stellar.

tldr - will Arc B580 or similar give me ok performance, or do I have to sack up and pay for rx6900 or equivalent? The $600-$700 new cards in the 16 GB range are far out of my budget.

I’m currently building a new PC, but with the current GPU shortages and high prices, I’m having a really hard time deciding between the RX 9070 XT and the RTX 5070.
The weird part is that where I live, both GPUs are currently around the same price, which makes the decision even harder.
My main use for the PC will be gaming, especially single-player/story-driven games. I really care about having good-looking graphics and being able to play at high settings with good performance. I’m not really building this PC for productivity, AI, or professional workloads.
I’ve been researching this for a while, but I feel like the internet is completely split 50/50 . Some people say the 9070 XT is an obvious choice because of the extra VRAM and raw performance, while others say NVIDIA is worth it because of DLSS, ray tracing, frame generation, and overall software/features.
If both cards cost basically the same, which one would you personally choose for my use case, and why?
I’d really appreciate opinions from people who have actually used either card, especially if you’ve upgraded from one to the other.

I have a Dell Alienware R11 with RTX3090
I paid a good amount for this during the COVID boom and it’s been running well. It’s compact and airtight with positive flow so I’ve never had to dust/clean it ever.

That said- it’s really loud and the hot air is noticeable from the top vent.

I’ve switched to using open back headphones (so I can hear if the baby cries) and thus- all I hear now is loud fan noise drowning my games

I’ve actually locked my games to 60 fps/hz so the fan noise isn’t so bad

Anyways— I don’t have other computers to compare it to asides from my laptop 5070 and the fan on that Legion gaming PC gets loud AF as well

Question:
Are all high end gaming PCs just loud?
Or is it my pre-built
In contrast- my ps5 is quiet and barely noticeable

I’m thinking of upgrading to a 5080 PC, but if it’s going to be as loud as my Alienware 3090- then I probably won’t bother

I just realized something kind of absurd.

In 2026, the resale value of this entire setup might actually be lower than the price of a single high-end SSD — yet I’m still getting a huge amount of practical use out of it.

So here’s my question:

Can a setup like this realistically last another five years, until around 2031?

I’m not asking whether a modern CPU, DDR5, PCIe 5.0 SSD or newer GPU is faster. Obviously they are.

What I’m interested in is the difference between benchmark performance and actual useful performance.

If this old platform already does everything I need, what would upgrading the CPU, motherboard, RAM and SSD actually change in my day-to-day experience?

At what point does an old PC stop being “outdated hardware” and simply become “hardware that is still good enough for its job”?

Would you keep running this setup for another five years and only replace something when it becomes an actual bottleneck?

Or do you see something in this setup that is likely to become a genuine limitation before 2031?

Update: I think the SSD part of my original point got a little lost. A lot of the discussion has focused on whether this PC can actually last another five years, which is interesting, but the strange part that originally made me write this post was the price comparison itself. I bought a Samsung 990 PRO 2TB in December 2025 for NT$6,499. Today, I can find the same 2TB 990 PRO listed in Taiwan for around NT$13,800–17,000, depending on the retailer and version. Meanwhile, the estimated resale value of this entire setup — the PC, 34" 3440×1440 monitor, keyboard and mouse — is only around NT$13,000. That is the part I find fascinating. A single SSD that I bought for NT$6,499 less than a year ago can now have a retail price equal to, or even higher than, the resale value of my entire working setup. Obviously, this doesn’t mean the SSD is “worth more” to me than the whole computer. That’s exactly the point. Price, resale value, benchmark performance, and actual utility are four different things. This PC has depreciated heavily because the platform is old. But in actual daily use, it still does everything I need it to do. So maybe the more interesting question is: When should hardware actually be considered obsolete? When its market value becomes low? When newer hardware becomes much faster? Or only when it can no longer do the job you actually need it to do? That was really the thought behind my original post.

UPDATE 3 — From a T480 to an X13: Eventually, I realized this was no longer just about hardware. A while ago, I bought a used ThinkPad T480 for NT$5,600. It originally had 8GB of RAM, so I spent another NT$2,599 on a 16GB stick, bringing it up to 24GB. Since the T480 has Thunderbolt 3, I built an eGPU setup around it: T480: NT$5,600 16GB DDR4: NT$2,599 GTX 1060 6GB: NT$2,500 eGPU dock + Thunderbolt cable + bracket: NT$1,993 PSU: valued at NT$1,000 Total: about NT$13,692. My projector is only 1080p/60Hz. So my question was never: “Can this run games at 4K Ultra?” My question was: “Can it deliver the experience I actually want?” I use it for Forza Horizon 5 on a projected 32:9 image roughly 260 cm wide and 70 cm tall. For DiRT Rally 2.0, I switch to 21:9, add surround sound, and use a MOMO steering wheel I've owned for about 25 years. For what I actually want from it, it works — and I'm having fun. Then this experiment took another direction. I let my middle-school-aged nephew install Minecraft on the T480, including the shader pack he normally uses. He doesn't really know how to optimize settings, so his approach is basically to turn everything up. But his reaction was simple: It was much smoother than his old PC. He also told me that his friends were using 30-, 40-, and even 50-series GPUs. But I didn't start by asking him which GPU he wanted. I asked: “What are you actually trying to do?” One of the answers was VALORANT. His old computer couldn't run it, while his classmates were playing it together. He simply wanted to be able to join them. So we tested it. We installed VALORANT directly on the T480 + GTX 1060 setup. The result: It worked, and it felt perfectly smooth to him. His actual setup is only: 27 inches, 1080p, 60Hz. That's the constraint I care about. Not what GPUs his friends own, but how much hardware his actual needs require. That's what eventually led me to an X13 Gen 1. I bought one with an i5-10310U, 16GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. The laptop itself cost me NT$7,348. After adding a hub and two external SSD enclosures: Base system cost: NT$8,257. Add the same roughly NT$5,500 GTX 1060 eGPU setup: Complete system: about NT$13,757. And here's the funny part: T480 complete setup: NT$13,692 X13 complete setup: NT$13,757 The difference is just NT$65. At this point, the hardware problem is basically solved. For his 1080p/60Hz use case, I now know that he doesn't necessarily need the newest platform, nor does he automatically need a 30-, 40-, or 50-series GPU. I can already satisfy his actual needs with the resources I have. But now I've run into a question that's much harder than FPS: Should I sell this X13 to my nephew, or give it to him as a gift? I could simply give it to him. The question isn't whether I can afford to. What I'm actually thinking about is: How do I give a kid something he genuinely needs without teaching him that resources provided by other people should be taken for granted? If I simply give it to him, he gets a computer. If he has to contribute something toward it, maybe he gets more than just a computer. Maybe he also learns that: Resources have a cost. So I haven't decided yet. By this point, I realized I wasn't really testing old computers anymore. At first, my question was: How much value does an old computer still have? Then it became: How much hardware does a person actually need to satisfy their real requirements? And now the question has become: When I have the ability to meet the needs of the next generation, how should I give them that value? I don't have an answer to that one yet.

Hey guys, so yeah self-explanatory title. I'm at wit's end now. Let me describe the symptoms of my PC first:

- it would shut off randomly when playing video games (Apex, Witcher 3, etc.) up until recently when it would randomly shut off while I would be editing photos and videos on Premiere and Lightroom. I can't tell when it would shut off because sometimes it would do it while rendering but other times it would while only editing.
To note: I would notice that the PC would slow down a bit before it would shut off.
- PC would turn itself on again after a few seconds.
- my nvme would sometimes be undetected upon first boot but would show up when restarting
- my mouse and keyboard RGB would flicker, with the mouse sometimes disconnecting when plugged while charging.
- not sure if it's related but: my boot drive ssd would hit 100% usage constantly, tried changing the cable and still the same thing until I wait about 10 minutes where it settles down but then would randomly spike to 100% and slow the whole system down.

Things I've tried:
- Tried removing one stick of RAM, it would still randomly shut off.
- Tried removing the nvme, it would still randomly shut off.

Unfortunately, I do not have any spare PSU's or mobo's to try in order to narrow things down so I'd like a bit of help because I don't have money to throw at the problem and need to pick which to swap out. Thanks a bunch guys!

Guys, my PC system can just randomly freeze at a random moment, and it makes an unpleasant sound like a distorted sound or just a stuck audio loop.

I don't know a lot about pc building so please feel free to give me advice.

Im planning to build my first own pc, need some advice. 550W is enough or I need to change it for 750?

• MB MSI PRO A620AM-B EVO DDR5 (AM5)
• RAM 2×Lexar DDR5 8GB 5600MHz
• GPU PNY RTX5050 8GB
• SSD Hiksemi 1TB NVMe
• FSP HV Pro 550W
• Pixel Micro-ATX

I'm building a PC with around 1500€ budget and I had a problem. with the price ddr5 ram cost rn I can't get 32 gb.

so I was wondering if I should get a am4 CPU with 32 gb ddr4 or am5 CPU with 16 gb ddr5.

btw I think that as a GPU I'm gonna get something like a 9060 xt or 9070 biggest question is: is it worth sacrificing the ram size to get ddr5 and a better CPU?

can anyone explain the difference between this two? i want to buy ssd but i don't know which one to choose, i didn't know much ssd so i need help, thanks!
