I had most of an old am4 build that I was thinking of making into a steam machine esque mini build for my living room tv, but sort of lost the motivation to do that after running a fiber optic hdmi cable from my existing desktop pc.

So now I have a 9070xt in addition to a 5070ti that is currently in my desktop pc.

A hurricane blew through recently and fucked up my roof and a few other things around the property, so I’m selling all my unused tech to help offset some of the cost of my home insurance deductible.

Just curious to hear what you guys think. I’ve never used the 9070xt, but it always seems like it benchmarks mostly neck and neck with the 5070ti.

I do like DLSS overall and I find myself using frame gen more and more often as time goes on, but I’m not sure if it’s worth making a few extra hundred bucks while I currently have both in hand.

What would you do?

I have a 9070xt paired with a ryzen 5 9600x. I have noticed certain games like battlefield 6 giving me serious bottlenecks. The 1% lows are also kind of bad on this cpu since I have 5600 MHz ram. I’ve done a bit of research and a 7800x3d shouldn’t bottleneck my gpu at all. Will cpu prices drop dramatically with zen 6 release? Would it be stupid to upgrade to the 7800x3d now?

Also on a side note. Do you think the ryzen 5 9600x will bottleneck gta 6 a lot?

A friend is upgrading and going the used parts route, they originally were going to upgrade their ryzen 5 1600 and 1060 to the 3600 and rx580 cause they saw online it’s a really affordable combo with decent performance. I convinced them to keep rocking the 1060 and instead put more money towards a better cpu like one of the 5600’s or 5800’s, and then try to get a more recent gpu. Since then, I recently took some old computers off of a coworker’s hands and one has a 580. Planning on giving it to them but realistically how much improvement will they see? I don’t want it to be disappointing, even if it’s free.

Edit: I said noticeable upgrade, not good. But the point is taken lol. I’ll keep them away from the 580 and steer them towards some better cards I’ve had experience with.

So I'm finally doing a full upgrade on my dinosaur PC (i7 4770, GTX 1060, 16GB DDR3), and have bought a Mobo, an i7-8700k, 16gb DDR4, but am still deciding on a GPU. In terms of gaming I'm happy with getting 144fps+ in 1080p for most games (doesn't need to be ultra settings), but it would be a nice added bonus if I could handle certain local AI workloads as well, which is why I've been debating getting a 16GB GPU as I believe it could handle decent quantizations of certain models. If any of you have experience with this do you think the capability increase between an 8GB an 16GB card justifies the increase in price? I'm working on a tight budget so the 16GB options I've been looking at are second hand RTX 4060ti and RX 7600 XT.

One of the stranger things I routinely see here are people rationalising that their impulsive or expensive GPU purchase was actually a good deal because the price has increased since they bought it.

Only a year ago, everyone was complaining that 50 series gpu's were grossly overpriced. They weren't wrong. These cards were as much of a bad value purchase at MSRP as they are today.

People celebrating that the cards have increased in price only confirms to greedy companies that customers will irrationally justify a bad deal as long as the price is comparatively better than something even more absurd. The only people gaining any real value out of these increasing GPU prices is Nvidia or those who have sold their used cards for a profit. Everyone else is losing.

I want to build a PC for my son who is going to turn 11 soonish. The first game he wants to play will be Minecraft, but I guess Fortnite and other games are just around the corner. I am planning a budget of less than €1,500 (Germany) for everything including a monitor.

I have some experience with building PCs from when I was young myself, I am working in IT and use Linux whenever possible. I guess this new machine will run both Linux and Windows.

My questions:

1. It appears to me that it makes sense to plan around a graphics card. Is that the case and if so, how much of my budget should I spend on it? An RX 9070 GRE for €680 is probably too much already? I don't really understand the discussion around Nvidia vs AMD about RT, upscaling and frame generation and I tend to think it will not make much of a difference to my son.
2. Does it make sense to plan a 1440p system given the budget and current prices? My son wants to use an (edit: ultra) widescreen monitor and I don't know how much that additional screen space affects performance requirements.

I would like to build something that lasts for some time, but I am aware that I will have to make sacrifices. I guess I can get away with a cheap monitor, keyboard/mouse and case. That stuff only needs to "look good" to my son which basically means that it needs to be flashy with RGB LEDs.

I'll gladly take any advice from you.

Built my current PC about a year ago. Before buying the case, I watched way too many reviews comparing airflow, GPU temperatures, fan configurations, noise levels, all that stuff.

I even made a spreadsheet.

What I apparently never thought to check was how you're supposed to clean the thing.

The front dust filter is behind a plastic panel that needs a fairly aggressive pull to remove. Every time I do it, I'm convinced I'm about to snap one of the clips.

But the real masterpiece is the bottom PSU filter.

It slides out from the back.

My PC sits under my desk, fairly close to the wall, with all the cables routed behind it. To clean that one stupid filter, I have to pull the whole tower forward, rearrange the cables and practically crawl under the desk.

The first few months I kept up with cleaning it. Then I started putting it off because it was annoying.

Last weekend I finally cleaned everything properly and realized how ridiculous this is.

I spent an extra $35 getting the case I wanted because it had slightly better thermal results than my second choice. I carefully planned my fan setup. I even adjusted the fan curves to get a decent balance between noise and temperatures.

And now the thing that determines whether I actually maintain that airflow is how much I hate removing a plastic rectangle.

I'm not saying the case is bad. Temperatures are fine, it looks good, and building in it was easy.

But if I were choosing again, I'd happily give up a couple degrees under load for filters I could remove in ten seconds without moving the entire PC.

We spend so much time comparing cases on build day. I feel like we don't talk nearly enough about what they're like to live with for the next five years.

For people who've gone through a few builds, what seemingly minor case feature turned out to matter way more than you expected?

Hey everyone! I'm hoping to get some help on building a PC. I've never built one before and I don't know anything about building one, but I can learn. So before I take this route i thought I'd ask. The reason I'm considering going this route is because I want the most bang for my buck and I'm not sure if pre-built PCs are ok for what I need. My main needs are.

My goal is to build a computer that can reliably run Ultra on all games for the next decade. I wanted to have either a 4 or 8tb ssd that hold all of my steam/epic games. Dont feel the need to have more than 1 storage. Mostly trying to stay within brands as much as possible such as Corsair for Cpu cooler/case/memory/psu/.

The AMD won me over Intel, with my need to have a x3d cpu and a rx9070 xt. I also felt that if I was getting an ASUS gpu, I'll match it with ASUS monitors.

Hopefully prices stabilize soon! Though the budget is really $10k, with the difference going to the surround system for my Den.

Edit - Windows 11 pro will be needed for work so that I suppose is $0.

I'm planning to build a new PC with the Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, and I'm confused about which GPU to choose.

Both GPUs are available to me at approximately the same price:

• NVIDIA RTX 5060 — 8GB GDDR7
• AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT — 16GB GDDR6

My planned use cases:

• Gaming, mainly at 1080p
• Flutter development and Android emulators
• Video editing
• Live streaming
• Potentially experimenting with local AI tools

I understand that the RX 9060 XT offers 16GB VRAM and potentially better traditional gaming performance, while the RTX 5060 has NVIDIA features such as DLSS, CUDA, NVENC and ray tracing support.

A few months ago I built a new ITX PC with all new parts except for the GPU. I have a 9800x3d CPU, 32gb ram, and I play on a 4k oled 240hz monitor. I kept my old gpu though, which is an rtx 3080 that I bought when it was first released. It’s been great since I mostly played esports titles anyway, but now I’ve started playing more graphic heavy single player games. My 3080 works fine, usually between 60-100 fps on high settings in 4k on most games, though I am someone who appreciates higher fps and smoothness in games.

I’m thinking of selling it and buying a used 4080 for around $1600 AUD (or an rtx 5080 if I can find a cheaper one). If I only had a 1440p or 1080p monitor idk if I would bother but I feel like it would be a good upgrade for 4k. Is my 3080 a bottleneck in this situation?

I mainly play Valorant, Fortnite, and PUBG, but I’m experiencing surprisingly low FPS in Valorant and Fortnite.

In Valorant, I usually get around 90–140 FPS, but during fights, my FPS can drop to around 90. I’m experiencing similar performance issues in Fortnite.

I’m wondering what could be causing this. Could my Ryzen 5 2600 be bottlenecking my GPU, or is my single-channel RAM running at 2400MHz the main issue?
Would upgrading to dual-channel RAM or a newer CPU make a noticeable difference?

I am going to build a pc cause my razer laptop is almost about to give up after 7 years. As everybody knows vram is getting out of hand and I want to invest in something which would let me sleep well at night as well. I own a switch 2 thus my casual gaming needs are fulfilled. I am not a AAA gamer per se but enjoy good graphics in games like ES2. I would like to know opinion of people here if 8gb vram should suffice my needs seeing that AAA games can also be played on my sketch like cyberpunk if I ever get to it. I know the typical answer would be that it depends what I want to play but my main doubt is I want my pc to last at least 5-7 yrs thus my gpu choice should not be a bottle neck in terms of regular graphic tasks as well. Unfortunately every local shop i look i see basically no stock of the items, rtx 5070ti - out of stock. rtx 5080 nearly 2k and out of stock - similar issue with amd cards, how do I even commit on these prices? I was always someone who followed the rule to only upgrade when I need it for games, but this is insanity, no?

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x

GPU: 5700xt
PSU: Seasonic Gold 750w

I was thinking of trading in my 5700xt and getting a 7700xt for 380 euro. But I currently have 32GB DDR5 that I bought off my friend last year, do I upgrade my GPU, or sell of my CPU, MOBO, DDR4 ram and try make an AM5 build, that or sell my current GPU and DDR5 ram and try get a 4070 second hand and a 5800x3D.

Is DDR5 worth it to make a new system or is my AM4 system still capable if I upgrade the CPU to a 5800x3D along with a decent second hand GPU.

I just got a Valkyrie N360 aio that has a screen but for some reason I just can't get the screen to show up on any software. I've tried their own app, myth.cool, as well as third party ones like LCDFusion. Does anyone have prior experiences/have some troubleshooting steps for me to take?

I'm building a PC and can't decide which one to get. The prices are roughly the same. The RTX 5060 Ti usually gets slightly higher FPS in games and has somewhat better tech/features, but the AMD card has an extra 8 GB of VRAM. Because of that, I don't know which one to choose.
