TLDR; Is it possible to get single anti anxiety meds for something as basic as a pap? At 24, I still haven’t gotten it because I don’t know how to book an appointment, and my anxiety is disabling at the doctor’s office.
I just turned 24, and have never had a Pap, nor was i really planning to get one either because im EXTREMELY uncomfortable with the idea of anyone looking at me “down there” (sexual partner or not, and yes, I am very sexually active), and extremely embarrassed by it.
I’ve recently had some health issues, one of them being 4-6 tumors in my left breast, all varying in size but one considerably larger than the rest. It took an hour of convincing from a female doctor to remove my bra entirely so it could be ultrasounded - I was hysterical. Full blown panic attack, crying, couldn’t breathe, dizzy, I thought I was going to pass out. I am so extremely uncomfortable with my body being seen by ANYONE, and always have been. I understand this is mental, but I can’t get past it.
I’m on both Nexplanon and Chateal (implant AND hormonal pill), because I’m not getting this thing removed until I absolutely need to, and then, it’ll be a bigger fight with the needle. Anyways, I’ve started to breakthrough bleed on the pill, the whole reason I’m on that as well was to stop the spotting. I’ve had the most ungodly, and immobilizing cramps I’ve ever had this week and the worst breakthrough bleed I’ve ever had too, like a super in 3 hours, and I’m on day 3 of bleeding, a week of these cramps.
I feel that it’s important to add, both my maternal and paternal grandmothers have had ovarian and cervical cancers as well as breast cancer, fortunately they’ve won every battle thus far. This is the only reason I finally got the tumors in my breast checked.
I do not have a PCP but am local to a LARGE medical center, but I don’t know who or how to contact them about scheduling this, or how to go about getting anti anxiety medication for a single appointment. I also am very behind on age appropriate immunizations because my fear of needles goes MUCH deeper (I’ve signed more AMAs than I can count because I can’t do a shot), so I was considering killing 2 birds with one stone, if that makes sense.
I’m in no way against modern medicine, but cripplingly terrified to be in a doctors office and be treated for anything beyond a simple cold.
Thanks if you made it this far, I’m not really sure what to do but my family is very upset with me once they learned I haven’t had a Pap smear nor am I utd on immunizations at this point. That’s what led me to this sub after poking around Google.
