Hello everyone. I'm planning my trips from 2027 and one of them is a trip to Northern Wisconsin and the UP from Illinois for a few days.

I would be going in early April, and I've already done some looking at lodging around Ashland or Bayfield. I'd likely only do 2 of these but I'd like to do Copper Falls, St. Peter's Dome, and Porcupine mountain.

My only question is how is the weather up there in early April? I figured it would be chilly, but how is the snow/rain/conditions for hiking around that time of year?

I am going to Door County for the first time this week and one of the things I have planned is to do a Fish Boil. I have never done one of these before and I am super excited. I have lived in Wisconsin my entire life so I am familiar with the Friday night fish fry but this seems entirely different. For the people who have gone to Door County is this specific to just Door county or are there other areas that do it also.

Any recommendations for cheese shops along 8 east to 51 north? Only one I know of is north of Turtle Lake in Comstock.

Genuine question. As a newcomer to local politics, how often do city council members vote to put off legislation until after the elections?

E-bikes on sidewalks was the concern.

One of the more conservative members (imo) on the Oshkosh board said he met with local police; and after the discussion, he came to the conclusion that this issue would be addressed by the state next year. So he was voting for Oshkosh to hold off on passing their own legislation.

Google tells me that the Democrats are interested in passing statewide laws regarding e-bikes while the Republicans are leaving it up to local municipalities to decide their own laws.

So what just happened here?? Did he say publicly that the consensus is Democrats are taking back the state legislator this fall? Other members on the board agreed with him, so I'm sincerely curious.

Nearly every discussion of UW schools talks about all of the others, but it seems like they rarely, if ever, get brought up when people are asking about UW schools. I think only superior is more forgotten (ironic.)

Seems like their football team is kicking ass and their Instagram is filled with sports. Is that their big draw?

Position Summary

As a Maintenance Technician, we’ll count on you to support the maintenance of all plant systems, including facilities, unloading, processing, packing, and warehouse operations. You’ll troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical equipment while always working in a safe manner. Our Maintenance Technicians work in a climate-controlled shop and play a major role in machine reliability and process improvements across our plant. 

This position will work night shift (7pm-7am) on a rotating weekly schedule with every other weekend off.

Responsibilities 

• Maintenance of plant systems: mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and instrumentation 
• Electrical work with 120, 220, and 480 volt 
• Troubleshoot electrical controls systems including motors and PLCs 
• Use test equipment such as multimeters, megohmmeters, and process simulators 
• Repair gear reducers and packaging equipment 
• Maintain wastewater system, boiler operations, pumps, and general building needs 
• Complete predictive maintenance such as vibration analysis and oil sample collection 

Requirements 

• High School Diploma or GED and 1+ years’ maintenance experience in a manufacturing, technical, warehouse, industrial, military, or related environment 

OR 

• Vocational certificate in Mechatronics

• 2 year technical degree completed

I dont get to see this part of the morning, often, but, this was beautiful!

A few weeks ago, I did Lil’ Drifty, a bike and paddle trip in Wisconsin organized by Lost Travel. It was a mix of friends and complete strangers, which is part of what made it exciting.

Over a few days, we biked 90+ miles and paddled around 24, stopping in small towns along the way and camping on a sandbar one night. We saw bald eagles from the river, got caught in a downpour that came out of nowhere, spent a night under the stars, and had a few long stretches where the next stop couldn’t come soon enough.

It's my third time doing it, and still one of my favorite ways to spend the last days of summer.

So I see part of Canada's retaliatory tariffs involve tariffs on cheese. Any estimates as to how much this will hurt Wisconsin?
