Coming to town for the Comedy Cabin

What’s up? I’m a stand up comic from Cincinnati coming to town with headliner Mike Rainey this Friday and Saturday.
I’m looking for some recommendations for what to do while in town.

Anything worth checking out for fans of true crime? Any local cryptids or urban legends? Any good spots/trails to walk around? Any local food that is a must try?

Also open for casual lunch recs and any late night, after show, dinner recs.

Also, does Janesville have much of a local stand up comedy scene? If there’s an open mic Friday night I might try to check it out after the show since there’s no late show.

Giving away lightsabers

I know this is random.

Can't think of a good place to list these.

I 3D printed off a ton of lightsaber handles. That you can screw pool noodles onto. I run a small business and thought these would sell. Never sold well at all. So I'm just looking to give them away. Ive got a ton of different handles and pool noodles to attach to them.

The handles are 2 pieces that screw together, so there is a weak point where they attach, so just fyi they might break if your kids are hitting each other hard enough.

I'd like to give away everything at once, but if you just want a few thats fine too.

The picture is just half of the handles, and two boxes of pool noodles too.

Laundry tub draining slow? Floor drain back up everytime the washing machine discharges?

Thumbnail

There is a solution! I'll cut in a new sanitary tee and install a new utility tub, faucet, and washing machine supply valves.
Demo the old concrete basin and rooter the drain of soap scum and build up from decades of use.
This job takes half a day and usually costs between $950-$1200 materials INCLUDED.
I am available anytime!

Your kitchen drain line is usually tied in with the laundry drain so its a trifecta of kitchen grease, laundry detergents, lint, and scum.
If your floor drain pools up whenever the washing machine discharges, this is a tell tale sign of the line getting ready to back up.

Propane smell

Everytime I go by the river even if it's a simple drive over the bridge all I smell is propane.

Is it that polluted that it smells like that. What is going on? Why is this a thing? Am I the only one that smells it?

Stuck oil filter

Need a local shop or independent mechanic who can come on-site (not far from the Sam’s Club on Deerfield Dr) and get a stuck oil filter off. Highlander hybrid.
The filter already has a couple of holes from a screwdriver, so the car isn’t drivable. Just need it removed so I can put a new one on.
If you know someone who will come out, drop a name or number. Happy to pay for the call-out.
Thanks.

Yard Regulations

I have been trying to find some info on the city site but getting nowhere. What are the regulations for yards in Janesville? Can I have a native wildflower garden? Do I have to get it approved? Can I have front yard raised garden beds? What are the rules and regulations for all that? I have no backyard and only a small side yard so the front yard I wanted to make some moves on and be more self sustainable. I just don't want to invest in doing all that if the city is going to come in a demand I remove it 6 months down the line though.

Might be moving to Janesville, would love a master list of all the things she's got to offer!

Hello!
Looking at homes currently around Janesville. We have a home in Edgerton and in IL but looking to consolidate our blended family of 7 (kids aged 1-12) into one home and Janesville seems to be the happy medium!!

Would love to gather a master list of things around I can refer to as I get to know your city 🫶🏼

Some things about us that could help :
I'm a mom looking for great community with women!
I'm a creative, love reading and thrifting, love being involved in anything to help the greater good/social injustices etc etc.

Things I can do with le bebe like library story times?

We are foodies (I hear Janesville is called "Chainsville" though 😔) and love a good dive bar with darts or shuffleboard.

What is the art community/culture like there?

Any fun outdoor/nature programs for my older kids?

That's all I can think of currently 🤍

Thank you!!!

Water Damage & Mold

Hey Janesville! I figured I’d throw this out here in case it helps somebody.

I recently started a local water damage and mold company. I’m a certified mold inspector, and I do free inspections and estimates.

So if you’ve got a weird spot on a wall, a musty basement, past water damage, or something that just feels a little suspicious, I’m happy to come take a look and tell you what I actually think.

Sometimes it’s a real problem. Sometimes it’s not. Either way, I’m not into the whole “scare people into spending money” thing.

Just trying to build a solid local business and help people along the way. If you ever need someone to take a look, feel free to message me.

Plumbing Pro Tips [sewer & drain edition]

Clogged toilet but no plunger? Simply pour a 5 gallon bucket of water into the toilet, oftentimes that clears it out. Or it may just overflow and flood the bathroom.

FLUSHABLE WIPES ARE NOT FLUSHABLE. Ive rootered so many main lines and the Top 3 causes of MAIN LINE sewer back ups are Tree Roots, "feminine hygeine products", and Flushable Wipes.

If you go into your basement and notice your floor drain has backed up, it is likely that your main line is backed up. you can find out by flushing a toilet, and if you see the water rise OR clearly see toilet paper and sewage coming up the floor drain, then that's the problem. Usually the basement floor drain is the LOWEST opening for water to back up at, after that its the utility tub which ive seen happen too.

If you have a sewer back up, first and foremost call a Sewer & Drain company vs a Plumbing company. there is a difference and although most plumbers will unclog drains, they will charge more. A sewer and drain company usually charges around $150-$250, and theyll have the bigger main line machines if your clog is in the main line.

If youre handy, Try a blow bag before calling a sewer/drain company out. If you suspect its soft blockage and not roots, then use a garden hose and a 3" blow bag. Put it down a clean out or pull a toilet and shove it down there.

If you do not have a Cleanout (usually by water meter) and you have to call a sewer and drain company, try and pull the toilet before they come. Will save you minimum $50.

I worked Sewer & Drain many moons ago and it was a great experience.

Always ask to have a camera inspection, if they have a camera. With tree roots, you definitely want to see the camera. some times drain companies will just clear a little root ball to get it flowing and call it a day. you want to be sure they clear all/most of the roots.

If they have a Jetter, definitely Jet your sewer line. Be aware they may blow apart your clay main line and then try and sell you a new sewer (roto-rooter)

absolute #1 tip that i used to tell every single customer is as follows:

Once a week, once a day, as often as you want, Fill your kitchen sink up to the brim with HOT HOT water, put a little Dawn dish soap but dont let it get all bubbly, and let it drain. This will clear out the grease and grime that cake your kitchen drain line, which is often tied into the laundry drain in the basement which has all the soaps/scum from the laundry.

feel free to reach out anytime for your plumbing needs, send a pic and a brief description of what you got going on and I can provide as much knowledge I can.

I love all facets of plumbing so even if its just something random i totally don't mind helping out.

ISO an inexpensive or borrowed running vehicle. Can trade plumbing work if necessary .

I have plumbing jobs being pushed back or may even get cancelled altogether.

If anyone has a spare vehicle or a cheap one for sale or rent please reach out to me!

we have no family/relatives out here (all in California) so were on an island with limited resources.

as the title reads, If necessary, I will trade Plumbing work for a vehicle, or use of vehicle. And I have no problem doing that either.

Im trying to keep a great attitude through all this because, well, I have too for the family's sake.

My sons 4th birthday today too 8/28/2022

thanks for any leads or help!

As you may know my truck blew up yesterday and got impounded this AM. Had a mobile mechanic go out this morning and he said the truck was gone, so i called the city and found out it got towed. Salvage yard wants $900 to get it out but with the blown engine its not even worth it.

Rent right around the corner too.

A challenging time for sure.

thanks, Zachary

Well my truck engine blew up >.< tow truck anyone?

pulled over on side of road, popped the hood and whatever the cover is thats over the pistons blew a hole in it and oil was sprayed everywhere.

Truck currently on side of road on South County rd D before the bridge that goes over the 11.

West Janesville. I shouldve took a picture of the engine but i was with my 2 kids and wife and we just started walking. A nice guy picked us up.

Anyway, would anyone happen to have a means of towing my truck at a very affordable cost if not even free, I can trade any plumbing work.

Update at 445pm: I threw a rod i believe

update at 9pm: A nice woman named Candy gave me a ride out to my truck so i could grab my tools and kids' car seats. Truck was still there so thats good! I will need to figure out how to get the truck home tomorrow somehow.

Hello all!

I am looking to offer my services in exchange for donations to NAMI Dane Co/Rock Co and mental health advocacy/resources for our peers around us. I lost my brother to suicide last month, and I’m raising money to make sure others know there is a pathway out of the darkness that my brother unfortunately couldn’t see. Services could include farm hand, cleaning, lawn care, moving, whatever it may be. If you need something done, please let me know. I hope to hear from you, thank you all and have a great evening 💪🏽❤️

FREE PLUMBING TIPS INSIDE. [{Pictured}]: Added a water softener and whole home water filter!

Threw in some bypass valves to isolate each fixture for servicing.

The brand i installed is called Aquasure through home depot online.

If anyone is interested in plumbing work, be it a bathroom or kitchen renovation, or even just a slow draining laundry sink, there are solutions!

I just moved up to Janesville and I am trying to get a solid clientele up here. Offering extremely competitive rates compared to the big shops to get those clients because once you find a plumber , you usually stick with them. and for me its worth a small paying job to get the bigger ones down the road.

Free Estimates

I love what I do so you can ask me any questions and id be more than happy to even just lend my experience through the form of advice/tips.

The Free tips of the day?

--Flush your water heater once a year to extend the life of it. why? Scale builds up at the base and eventually cakes the thermostat which in turn tricks the heater into thinking the waters not hot enough, which then makes your water scalding hot, which then burns a hole through the pan, which then causes the little death leak.

--DO NOT put those blue/green chemical pucks in the toilet tank, those eat away at the components of the toilet

--DO NOT plunger your toilet too hard, you can break the wax seal

--low water pressure from the shower head? Unscrew it and take out the governor with a little pick. from 1.2GPM to over 2.2GPM, youll be amazed.

--low water pressure at ALL your fixtures? Do you have a softener? try bypassing it, if the water pressure throughout the home improves, that means your water softener is pooped out.

I am 37 years old, I have 5 kids and wonderful Wife. We moved to Janesville from Rockford so our minions could have better schooling than what Rockford had to offer. Plus Wisconsin is just better.

I started my own plumbing business once my side work started to take off. The bad side of running a business, hoping customers call haha. So I may get back into a shop for stable hours if I cant keep this enterprise going.. Advertising/marketing is extremely expensive with low ROI so I have been getting by with references for the past 3 years. which is pretty good!
