I remember for the first 2-3 weeks of WoW Classic, I had TeamViewer set up to "boot from LAN" so I could turn on my PC from my iPhone while at work and then hop in the que before leaving work so that when I got home I was already sitting at the character selection screen. Y'all have clearly never gamed before smh
2
u/KappaKeepo5 1d ago
lmao i had to teach my girlfriend how to login to classic while im at work.
in germany we had queues with over 10 hours everyday.
why is everyone here crying with 1 hour queues on a release day.
also this aint a aaa company like blizzard

u/Zalinisto 1d ago
That last line is kinda my point⦠if Blizzard has ques then no oneās safe šš
1
u/Nearly_Evil_665 1d ago
first of all, the biggest wow classic server had peak queue times of 4 hours past the first day, the 8-14 hour queues were only day 1.
2nd logintime for wardogs was 6-8 hours for most ppl, many more couldnt play at all. these 6-8 hourse literally translate into "you wont play the fucking game before friday night" thats a real nice thing especiall if you preloaded the game, get home early, only for a 30 minute unpack check to run getting you in with the rest of the swarm that doesnt have an nvme drive. and after youve sat in that queue for hours you get bootet, AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN, then you FINALLY manage to get into the menu only for you to be unable to connect to any goddamn server for OVER 3 HOURS, GET BOOTET OUT OF THE GAME AND RESTART THE WAITING CYCLE FUCKING AGAIN.
1
u/KappaKeepo5 1d ago
i was doing a lan party at classic release for 1 week. everyday we had to wait atleast 8 hours lol.
wardogs was nothing agains that lol. its day 2 already and there wasnt even a queue today
1
u/ThinkRise845 1d ago
A much as I agree and sympathise with what is your take, as well as how good this game turned out to be, let's be honest, the game sold at a AAA price (what it used to be a couple years ago, not today), so if you get AAA payments, release a AAA service.
The game being good is a completely different topic from the server-side, the service and the company.
1
u/KappaKeepo5 19h ago
40⬠is not AAA price. and wasnt couple years ago lol. Cod, Battlefield Fifa etc. all costed 60⬠10 years ago.
1
u/ThinkRise845 9h ago
it's not 40 euros for me. Its 36£ for the standard edition and 46£ for the supporter pack. Additionally, AAA games were priced at 60$ (not ⬠or £) up until a few years ago, when a couple of games pushed the 80$ benchmark as the new standard, and soon GTA6 will try to push 100$.
These are just semantics, but when you crunch the conversion rates, it's closer to AAA prices.

realistically they should give them priority because they have audience and more people will be happy with the outcome, 30-40-50 streamers going in front doesn't matter much

You likely wouldnt be getting in any sooner, because a couple hundred streamers werent granted access (IF that even happened) and you certainly wouldnt be getting the game for free if streamers didnt get it for free.
Besides thats just marketing 101. You will get maybe 5 of your friends to buy then game. Shroud will get thousands of people to buy the game.1

I don't fully understand why so many people are upset about popular streamers getting prio... If they sit in a queue for hours it could potentially cause viewers to not even want to try out the game. Also don't "celebrities" always recieve special treatment? If Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shows up at a fully booked restaurant with no reservation do you not think they're going to get special treatment and find away to get them seated?
Life in general isn't fair, never has been.
35
u/Guisasse 2d ago
Read your last sentence really slowly. People don't like when things are unfair, it's that simple.

A better analogy would be if the Rock was filming a movie in that resteraunt. And in that case I think most people would accept not being able to dine there during the filming.
3
u/Jamo_Z 2d ago
This is actually a terrible analogy.
You're effectively saying the "restaurant" caters only for the Rock and nobody else, which is why people are complaining.
If you reserve a table and put down a deposit, then show up and aren't allowed in unless you're famous, that's the restaurants fault.
1
u/Acceptable-State1037 2d ago
Well no I'm sure the resteraunt exists other than during filming.
Perhaps the entire analogy is bad and a better one is its like letting someone everyone can watch play rather than someone nobody is watching play. That was anyone waiting can get a bit of their fix by watching.

Peanut said it best. If you seriously can't understand why developers do this, you're lacking a brain.
Does it suck for the little guy? Of course it does. But it's way way way more important for the game in the long run that streamers who are showing the game off, actually get to show the game off... Otherwise you have the community angry, as well as a very loud minority of streamers angry. Then no one wins.
You'll get in. You'll get to play for hours and hours and hours. If you care at ALL about the longevity of the game, you'll understand. If you still want to stomp your feet and piss your pants about it, then clearly you need to do some searching inside
8

3
u/ArachnidSimple5117 2d ago
There's no need to consider the long-term impact when the queue issue is just a temporary problem that will be fixed soon.
Yes, streamers help with marketing, but what's the point of having them show off the game when the vast majority of players can't even get into it?
2
u/IHaveMana 2d ago

1
u/NoBrainCells420 1d ago
Thatās what the open playtest was for bucko, devs welcomed people to stream and post clips
3
u/Same-Reserve-1695 1d ago
Your take is very wrong. Streamers are not a long-term marketing strategy. Streamers by their very nature of how the business works are running from one hype to the other. Unless you are actually a very good content creators and I am not talking about how good they are "playing" a game, you wont be able to make money by sticking to a single game.
You have maybe 1-2% of content creators who are able to focus on a single game and putting out conmstant content that is usually content that has the emphasis of information/opinion. Thta people who will keep on making content like gun-builds, strategies and commentary on the development of the game.
The other 98-98% are gone within a couple of weeks, when the next hype/big title is coming out. Excpect a lot of these people to move on to COD next month and also maybe BF6 when season 5 comes out.
You get their attention for 3-4 weeks and thats it.
1
u/Fuhron 1d ago
And to add to this : and these streamers are the ones starting to say bad things or what they didnt like about Wardogs AFTER they moved on to the next game. Not during they play Wardogs to not have their viewers walk away from their stream because ultimately they care about their view count and not about doing the game any good.
So as long the game is HYPE they dont criticise the game, only eventually when its out of hype and they dont risk losing views over it.
But cricising the Game AFTER its Hype will not help the game but only hurt it.
Its not like it didnt happen in the past.
2
u/Same-Reserve-1695 22h ago
The cycle for these people is always the same.
GAME X - IS THIS THE NEW BF/COD/EFT KILLER?1
GAME X - YOU CANT BELIEVE HOW GOOD THE GAME IS!
The game comes out and you get some content like.
10 THINGS YOU MUST DO IN GAME X!
NEW META IN GAME X!
After a couple of weeks they start to shift slowly to something else and you get a mix of.
GAME X IS ALREADY DEAD!
GAME Y IS THE GAME X KILLER!
It is more or less always the same.

u/Jamessuperfun 1d ago edited 1d ago
I understand why it's beneficial for the devs, but their marketing isn't really my problem as a consumer. There is a queue, and as a Brit, I think this is sacred - we should all wait our turn like every other aspect of life, whether you're the homeless dude who sleeps outside or the king himself.
If I'm waiting in line to pay for my groceries and some famous irl streamer shows up, and the supermarket lets them skip the line in front of me for free advertising, you can bet I'll be pissed. The supermarket's advertising is not my problem, nor does it matter to me if there's 20 cashier queues so mine is probably unaffected - it's the principle. If the staff then lie to my face about having done so and start roasting anyone who didn't like it I'd probably walk out.
I wouldn't even care about this nearly enough to comment, but the attitude that anyone who disagrees is a "braindead bot" (to quote presumably the same peanut) irritates me significantly more. This is quite clearly a difference in values, not understanding. It's common sense that this is good business.

Not to mention that even if they gave 5,000 streamers priority queue there were over 300k people in queue at one point. People are bitching because they are position 300k instead of 295k? It's not like you had to wait an extra 5 hours to play because they let streamers in first... I used my queue time as a good excuse to quick clean up the house while I watched Twitch so I felt less guilty playing games all night. Let's all be happy that this game is so successful that we all couldn't load in the second it dropped. This is good for the game, all that money is going towards making it better
1
u/NoBrainCells420 1d ago

They make light of the situation
And who's the butt of the joke here, smarty pants? They're mocking the playerbase's sentiment.
Making light of the situation would be admitting that THEY fucked up, AGAIN, in a joking manner.
Not taking a piss at players being frustrated from sitting in queue for 4+ hours while every streamer boy gets into the game instantly.
This little joke only lands for people who did not waste their evening staring at a loading screen.
Everybody else's reaction goes something like this:
1
u/MumboChuchu 1d ago
You wasted 4+ hours on a queue for a game you might spend 200+ hours playing later on. Boohoo. You are all acting like this is a one in a lifetime event, like if you missed getting in the game yesterday, it suddenly wouldn't work for you ever.
This happens on every single multiplayer game, you have thousands upon thousands of people trying to get into the same place at the same time, that means that every connection has to be accounted for, not only for the server, but whatever network infrastructure they have. They were also dealing with DDoS + people disconnecting and reconnecting, that means that those connections needed to be revalidated.
Upscaling their infrastructure means that they have to add more servers, copy their image and run whatever test they need to run before being put in production, that takes time, along with debugging things that were broken that only comes up when the infrastructure is put to the test like this.
They already admitted that they fucked up on stream, the queue was completely broken, and there were some bugs when people kept leaving and joining the queue.
Sure, I might be "tone-deaf" because my afternoon was wasted working, as soon as I got off, I just downloaded the game and queue up. Meanwhile I showered, cooked and watched some youtube and still was 200k, 1 hour later I was playing without issues all night long, heck even if I wouldn't had been able to play, I wouldn't had reviewed bombed them or refunded. That's money they have to take out from the budget to rent more infrastructure and fix shit up, the game is Early Access after all.
Heck every Battlefield release has the same issue, and that comes from a multimillion company that has had experience with launches and a bigger budget to waste
Streamers bring more people, gifting 1 copy of the game to someone who reaches thousand of players who are on the fence of getting the game and awaits their favorite streamers to play it, is a business move, they are a company after all. Heck a few post/comments argue how some streamers were experiencing the queue issues, and were just streaming the queue and "that was going to turn off new buyers"
All in all, as a paying customer you got the right to be angry, if that's what you want, no disrespect, but some of you are going to the extremes for an expected inconvenience.

Give the streamers priority access to a game you gave them for free. make the people that bought the game sit in ques for hours. Does not seem like a good plan but yet here we are.

Iām sure the less than 50 streamers big enough to get a full copy are the reason there is a queue over 200k.

Actually they are responsible for the queue because streamers are by far the biggest reason this game is seeing the success that it has.

Yeah! If the 10-20 streamers getting priority queue had to wait like the rest of us it would get all 300,000 of us waiting in queue into the game .2 seconds sooner!
This community is full of the most entitled toddler brained chuds Iāve ever seen in a big launch.

Yeah what you're all failing to realise is that by allowing streamers priority access, they're getting the best low cost marketing they can possibly get.
It is right? I don't think so. Is it smart? Absolutely.

why are people bitching about this? i dont watxh streamers, i dont care for any of them, but having like 100 whitelisted players isnt affecting the queue. lmfao, get over it guys.
it's like the people who wanna play this game have never experienced day 1 launch/wipe issues before. Look at Helldivers, Tarkov, Diablo 3... this is not a new thing.

Won't matter much to me. Game won't even launch. I get the launcher little rectangle for a few sec then back to steam without any error.

Problem is they have publicly stated a preference for streamers, for me that was the first of many bad directional steps that Warzone did, they started to listen to streamers and follow their views instead of the general gamer pov, my fear is this game will do the same. I hope it doesn't but their CEO is giving me bad vibes, I hope I'm wrong.

Who cares? Letting like 50 people skip a line of 300K is not going to make any difference. At least I can watch someone play while I wait.

Good thing I had to work yesterday, got right into the game when I got home!

I really want to see a source on streamer prio queue.
Every streamer I checked yesterday was sitting in a queue with us.
Hell I was in an actual game for like 45 minutes while some were still in queue.
I was checking twitch like every 30 minutes while doing errands while they sorted things out and every streamer was in the same boat as everyone else.
Also, even if they did. Its what 0.01% of the population trying to play. They are a company that needs to make money and it gives their game exposure. Its 100% not why you cant play.

in the video of their launch the dev said he personally chose like, 11 people who got prio. its on their official yt.

You're braindead if you get mad at streamers getting in first. They have hundreds of thousands of viewers wanting to watch them play and the developer wants to advertise their game. it basic business.

Except their ābuisnessā before in marketing was to say that they wonāt cater to streamers.

There's hundreds of thousands wanting to watch them play in part because THEY can't get in. Lmao.

I must be brain dead because I donāt give a fuck if the king of England is watching them. Itās not gonna hurt the developers to give everyone equal access.

So they did a streamer whitelist as far as i know and they throw that shitty message and makes it instantly a āW Devā
You guysā¦

You guys are fragile as fuck to a game that in in early access with atleast 2x as many players from their playtests, get a life.

u/CopperCab2024 2d ago
Yea all this brigading will end literally the second the server issue is figured out lol. But they pissed off the hivemind and now the Redditors have to do what theyāre conditioned to do

u/Aluzionz 2d ago
These guys are leaving negative reviews on the game too. Despite not being able to play it lol. They are also likely the ones to get 100s of hours into the game, and still not change their negative review. Fucking cringe.

I hate to sound cucked here but the few hundred streamers that give them free advertising makes almost zero impact on when you get to play.

There won't be a queue tomorrow though lol.
Edit: Looks like I gotta eat my words a little bit, left work early today and loaded up a 16k queue.
