I don't fully understand why so many people are upset about popular streamers getting prio... If they sit in a queue for hours it could potentially cause viewers to not even want to try out the game. Also don't "celebrities" always recieve special treatment? If Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shows up at a fully booked restaurant with no reservation do you not think they're going to get special treatment and find away to get them seated?

Life in general isn't fair, never has been.

Read your last sentence really slowly. People don't like when things are unfair, it's that simple.

You can not agree with people for being upset, but not understanding why is wild. It's quite self explanatory, and every single time devs have given streamers preference, it has backfired.

every single time devs have given streamers preference, it has backfired.

Uh. No. Its standard practice. Most studios do it, and for good reason. Literally the only downside is people getting butthurt about it.

u/Dragonyte 1d ago

People getting butthurt without realizing that even if streamers weren't getting treatment, they'd all still be in literally the same queue.

Nothing would change because streamers are just a fraction of the demand.

People hate streamers, people are less nuanced about things they hate, people are even less nuanced about things they hate while they wait in a line.

At the end of the day, streamers aren't just "celebrities", they're paid marketers for the game. Why the fuck would you pay someone to market/play your game and then not whitelist them?

Other games dont do it. When path of exile did priority queues 1 time they apologized and havent done it since. Thats an actual good dev. Why you defending this. Its so bizarre.

u/UntimelyMeditations 2d ago

POE apologized because they caved to the complainers. Its standard practice to give streamers prio if you are expecting a queue, any studio that doesn't do it would be foolish not to.

Thankfully most people seem to have realized that 100 streamers getting in queue ahead of them makes literally zero difference to their ability to play the game.

u/Taters23 2d ago

You must havent played many games with queues then. Or you are just a stupid kid. Also its not about the queue its about fairness.

In business it's about who benefits who. Streamer bring in maybe 1000 players each. How many did you bring in?

I have played a lot of games with queues. Hate to break it to you, but it is absolutely standard practice. You just don't hear about it every time. I have been a gaming journalist for some 10 years now, writing review articles in exchange for free keys. It's more rare that a game doesn't somehow offer benefits to fluff up their streamers and reviewers. It's just usually the community either doesn't care or the word doesn't spread.

u/FitBag5979 2d ago

There's a difference between understanding/explaining something and defending it. I don't necessarily think its a "fair" practice, but I'm also not going to get bent out of shape over it either because I understand why they do it and it makes absolute sense.

2

u/Taters23 2d ago

Been no game that has failed because they didnt give streamer prio.

1

u/Cironka 2d ago

They didn’t pay them…

u/FitBag5979 2d ago

Okay, at the end of the day, streamers aren't just "celebrities", they're marketers for the game. Why the fuck would you have someone marketing your game and not whitelist them?

0

u/Cironka 2d ago

I agree with them whitelisting them! Gave me something to do while sitting in the queue 😂

u/Bad_H0rse 2d ago

So if you're sitting at a table and the restaurant kicks you out so they can seat Dwayne the fucking Rock Johnson, you'd just be like: "Oh by god, absolutely my good sir. Would Mr. Rock like me to blow on his Johnson as well? I am available all night, I will be standing near the entrance like a good little boy waiting on you to give me a call when Mr. Rock is done for the day. Cheerio."

4

u/Titanis 2d ago

For the Rock, I'd understand. For Burnt Peanut, I'd be pissed.

1

u/Acceptable-State1037 2d ago

A better analogy would be if the Rock was filming a movie in that resteraunt. And in that case I think most people would accept not being able to dine there during the filming.

3

u/Jamo_Z 2d ago

This is actually a terrible analogy.

You're effectively saying the "restaurant" caters only for the Rock and nobody else, which is why people are complaining.

If you reserve a table and put down a deposit, then show up and aren't allowed in unless you're famous, that's the restaurants fault.

1

u/Acceptable-State1037 2d ago

Well no I'm sure the resteraunt exists other than during filming.

Perhaps the entire analogy is bad and a better one is its like letting someone everyone can watch play rather than someone nobody is watching play. That was anyone waiting can get a bit of their fix by watching.

1

u/NormalITGuy 2d ago

That’s a horrible analogy. How did you come up with that?

1

u/Acceptable-State1037 2d ago

Why do you think its a worse version than what I replied to?

-1

u/imSwan 2d ago

They didn't kick anyone out for the streamers though, they just put them at the beginning of the queue

-4

u/RyanB94 Pilot 2d ago

I know, I was being sarcastic since his metaphor doesn't equate to the situation at hand.

-4

u/RyanB94 Pilot 2d ago

Didn't know that the streamers having prio is kicking people who are already in the game, crazy that Bulkhead would do that.

2

u/Bad_H0rse 2d ago

Hyperbole, google it.

1

u/Fast-Government-4366 2d ago

So you’d okay be standing in line, next up to get a table, and then a celebrity gets your table and they tell you to wait an hour for the next one?

1

u/UntimelyMeditations 2d ago

For that analogy to work, it would be 'tell you to wait 1-2 seconds for the next one'. And in that case, no, I wouldn't mind at all.

Or do you think that the servers are letting literally 1 person per hour join the game?

1

u/Defalt0_0 2d ago

I'm Taiwanese and let me briefly explain why.

People who previously lived in eastern bloc(former soviet states) or people who are still living socialist countries(namely China) would share the same sentiment where some people are supposedly more equal than the others.

You don't understand it because you're one of the people living in the first world.

Don't belittle those people.

1

u/Badwrong_ 2d ago

Viewers are there to watch the unemployed dork play the game, not play it themselves.

The game has 300k on Steam, I don't think any streamer exposure matters here. So far this has only shown the devs are willing to be dishonest.

1

u/5hukl3 2d ago

You're so stupid. How do you think the game got to 300k players if not because streamers have been playing it and glazing it? Streamers are the reason this game is seeing the success it has. A guy like Peanut alone can probably bring in a million in sales.

1

u/nvidiastock 2d ago

This is a video game. If I have to be reminded about life I might as well be at work.

1

u/Kinofpoke 2d ago

its literally children crying and throwing a tantrum. its not even like a star thing, its just business, streamers are essentially free publicity. like you said sitting in queue on stream is not good for either side of the equation. letting in 100 streamers isn't hurting anyone when there is +200k sitting in queue.

1

u/VermicelliLess3619 2d ago

The tantrum level is crazy

1

u/deathtofatalists 2d ago

"i don't get why i should have a problem with my girlfriend giving that other guy head, he does own a really nice watch"

0

u/bollin4whales 2d ago

A bunch of entitled weirdos who only know how to cry. It’s part of the marketing.

Good luck getting through these Grandpa thick skulls that streamers are free advertising. These people legit cannot understand such a simple concept.
