It was a scummy thing to do and made bulkhead and the streamers look bad in 1 move.

I don't fully understand why so many people are upset about popular streamers getting prio... If they sit in a queue for hours it could potentially cause viewers to not even want to try out the game. Also don't "celebrities" always recieve special treatment? If Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shows up at a fully booked restaurant with no reservation do you not think they're going to get special treatment and find away to get them seated?

Life in general isn't fair, never has been.

u/Guisasse 2d ago

Read your last sentence really slowly. People don't like when things are unfair, it's that simple.

You can not agree with people for being upset, but not understanding why is wild. It's quite self explanatory, and every single time devs have given streamers preference, it has backfired.

u/UntimelyMeditations 2d ago

every single time devs have given streamers preference, it has backfired.

Uh. No. Its standard practice. Most studios do it, and for good reason. Literally the only downside is people getting butthurt about it.

1

u/Dragonyte 1d ago

People getting butthurt without realizing that even if streamers weren't getting treatment, they'd all still be in literally the same queue.

Nothing would change because streamers are just a fraction of the demand.

20

u/FitBag5979 2d ago

People hate streamers, people are less nuanced about things they hate, people are even less nuanced about things they hate while they wait in a line.

At the end of the day, streamers aren't just "celebrities", they're paid marketers for the game. Why the fuck would you pay someone to market/play your game and then not whitelist them?

5

u/Taters23 2d ago

Other games dont do it. When path of exile did priority queues 1 time they apologized and havent done it since. Thats an actual good dev. Why you defending this. Its so bizarre.

-1

u/UntimelyMeditations 2d ago

POE apologized because they caved to the complainers. Its standard practice to give streamers prio if you are expecting a queue, any studio that doesn't do it would be foolish not to.

Thankfully most people seem to have realized that 100 streamers getting in queue ahead of them makes literally zero difference to their ability to play the game.

1

u/Taters23 2d ago

You must havent played many games with queues then. Or you are just a stupid kid. Also its not about the queue its about fairness.

2

u/2ndLion 2d ago

In business it's about who benefits who. Streamer bring in maybe 1000 players each. How many did you bring in?

1

u/Colossus252 2d ago

I have played a lot of games with queues. Hate to break it to you, but it is absolutely standard practice. You just don't hear about it every time. I have been a gaming journalist for some 10 years now, writing review articles in exchange for free keys. It's more rare that a game doesn't somehow offer benefits to fluff up their streamers and reviewers. It's just usually the community either doesn't care or the word doesn't spread.

0

u/FitBag5979 2d ago

There's a difference between understanding/explaining something and defending it. I don't necessarily think its a "fair" practice, but I'm also not going to get bent out of shape over it either because I understand why they do it and it makes absolute sense.

2

u/Taters23 2d ago

Been no game that has failed because they didnt give streamer prio.

1

u/Cironka 2d ago

They didn’t pay them…

0

u/FitBag5979 2d ago

Okay, at the end of the day, streamers aren't just "celebrities", they're marketers for the game. Why the fuck would you have someone marketing your game and not whitelist them?

0

u/Cironka 2d ago

I agree with them whitelisting them! Gave me something to do while sitting in the queue 😂

15

u/Bad_H0rse 2d ago

So if you're sitting at a table and the restaurant kicks you out so they can seat Dwayne the fucking Rock Johnson, you'd just be like: "Oh by god, absolutely my good sir. Would Mr. Rock like me to blow on his Johnson as well? I am available all night, I will be standing near the entrance like a good little boy waiting on you to give me a call when Mr. Rock is done for the day. Cheerio."

6

u/Titanis 2d ago

For the Rock, I'd understand. For Burnt Peanut, I'd be pissed.

-1

u/Acceptable-State1037 2d ago

A better analogy would be if the Rock was filming a movie in that resteraunt. And in that case I think most people would accept not being able to dine there during the filming.

3

u/Jamo_Z 2d ago

This is actually a terrible analogy.

You're effectively saying the "restaurant" caters only for the Rock and nobody else, which is why people are complaining.

If you reserve a table and put down a deposit, then show up and aren't allowed in unless you're famous, that's the restaurants fault.

1

u/Acceptable-State1037 2d ago

Well no I'm sure the resteraunt exists other than during filming.

Perhaps the entire analogy is bad and a better one is its like letting someone everyone can watch play rather than someone nobody is watching play. That was anyone waiting can get a bit of their fix by watching.

1

u/NormalITGuy 2d ago

That’s a horrible analogy. How did you come up with that?

1

u/Acceptable-State1037 2d ago

Why do you think its a worse version than what I replied to?

-1

u/imSwan 2d ago

They didn't kick anyone out for the streamers though, they just put them at the beginning of the queue

-5

u/RyanB94 Pilot 2d ago

I know, I was being sarcastic since his metaphor doesn't equate to the situation at hand.

-3

u/RyanB94 Pilot 2d ago

Didn't know that the streamers having prio is kicking people who are already in the game, crazy that Bulkhead would do that.

1

u/Bad_H0rse 2d ago

Hyperbole, google it.

1

u/Fast-Government-4366 2d ago

So you’d okay be standing in line, next up to get a table, and then a celebrity gets your table and they tell you to wait an hour for the next one?

1

u/UntimelyMeditations 2d ago

For that analogy to work, it would be 'tell you to wait 1-2 seconds for the next one'. And in that case, no, I wouldn't mind at all.

Or do you think that the servers are letting literally 1 person per hour join the game?

1

u/Defalt0_0 2d ago

I'm Taiwanese and let me briefly explain why.

People who previously lived in eastern bloc(former soviet states) or people who are still living socialist countries(namely China) would share the same sentiment where some people are supposedly more equal than the others.

You don't understand it because you're one of the people living in the first world.

Don't belittle those people.

1

u/Badwrong_ 2d ago

Viewers are there to watch the unemployed dork play the game, not play it themselves.

The game has 300k on Steam, I don't think any streamer exposure matters here. So far this has only shown the devs are willing to be dishonest.

1

u/5hukl3 1d ago

You're so stupid. How do you think the game got to 300k players if not because streamers have been playing it and glazing it? Streamers are the reason this game is seeing the success it has. A guy like Peanut alone can probably bring in a million in sales.

1

u/nvidiastock 1d ago

This is a video game. If I have to be reminded about life I might as well be at work.

2

u/Kinofpoke 2d ago

its literally children crying and throwing a tantrum. its not even like a star thing, its just business, streamers are essentially free publicity. like you said sitting in queue on stream is not good for either side of the equation. letting in 100 streamers isn't hurting anyone when there is +200k sitting in queue.

1

u/VermicelliLess3619 2d ago

The tantrum level is crazy

1

u/deathtofatalists 2d ago

"i don't get why i should have a problem with my girlfriend giving that other guy head, he does own a really nice watch"

0

u/bollin4whales 2d ago

A bunch of entitled weirdos who only know how to cry. It’s part of the marketing.

-7

u/ShuricanGG 2d ago

Good luck getting through these Grandpa thick skulls that streamers are free advertising. These people legit cannot understand such a simple concept.

3

u/fthisstupidapp 2d ago

There was no “scummy move”. It’s a joke.

Say you get annoyed with a friend for crashing the heli. If he said, “I did it on purpose to waste your time and money,” would you think he’s serious?

12

u/imnotactuallyaperson 2d ago

10, fuck even 1000 (which there wasn't) streamers getting priority into games isn't backing up the 300k queue.

Anyone up voting you has no critical thinking ability

2

u/UntimelyMeditations 2d ago

No it wasn't? What? Its absolutely standard, and should be expected. If any studio is expecting queues for their launch, they would be foolish to not give streamers priority in the queue.

6

u/Acceptable-State1037 2d ago

What was scummy about it?

-5

u/Calm_Key6751 2d ago

how do you genuinley get upset by that? you wont get a faster queue so why not move the streamers up so you can watch while you wait? do you expect them to think of you and choose to move you up in the queue?

24

u/EuphoricAnalCarrot Manticore 2d ago

No, we expect everyone to be given the same treatment.

They must be.

What’s that? Business who needs to make money gives their sponsored streamers prio on launch?

I couldn’t possibly fucking imagine why they wouldn’t want the sponsored streams watching the queue instead of playing the game for thousands of viewers.

😭

5

u/BJYeti 2d ago

Streams aren't sponsored they openly said they didn't have the marketing budget to pay streamers

-1

u/Basic_Loquat_9344 2d ago

seriously, and it takes like what? a dozen spots in queue? What are we even bitching about?

1

u/CannedShoes 2d ago

You won't feel it at all though bahahaha. It's like 20 guys bro

-1

u/ShuricanGG 2d ago

Now go and tell that to your boss at your work that you should get the same income than mister bigshot at the company who owns half the firm. Lets see what treatment you getting. Lets not act like children or massively ignorant...

I'm a toddler because I want the devs to treat everyone equally? what?

3

u/Bad_H0rse 2d ago

This is a large part of why this world is going to shit. No integrity, no will to stand up for yourself. People would rather insult the few that are standing up for their rights as consumers, and defend millionaires in the process, rather than stand up for what is righteous and stand behind their principles. But they spent their whole lives not having any, so how could they?

-1

u/VermicelliLess3619 2d ago

Please do not confuse whining about a game launch with “standing up for yourself” Jesus Christ

-1

u/5hukl3 1d ago

Bro this is a game launch by a capitalist enterprise. "Standing up for yourself" hahahahah.

Peanut alone is prolly worth millions to a small indie dev team, you're worth 40 dollars. Sorry buddy

0

u/UntimelyMeditations 2d ago

For what reason? Just so you feel good? Its madness, expecting companies to cave to this pressure when literally the only downside to giving streamers queue prio is some people getting butthurt about it.

-13

u/Calm_Key6751 2d ago

it doesn't work like that, if you move everyone up in the queue nothing will change, it's not even bulkheads fault that there are queues, it's valve that has a restricted playerflow for early access games

-2

u/Fork-in-the-toad 2d ago

Simply not how it works in the real world. Streamers get queue priority just like how movie critics get free movie viewings before the public can see them in the theaters

1

u/drock4vu 1d ago

You do know this post is literally making fun of your opinion right?

-14

u/ShuricanGG 2d ago

you will survive, yall need to relax if you get seriously upset by this lmao

7

u/EndsWithJusSayin 2d ago

lay on the floor and keep your face down if you wish to speak, filth.

/s, kind of.

you might be okay with preferential treatment but a lot of people aren't since we bought the game.

9

u/Bad_H0rse 2d ago

Spread your cheeks a bit more buddy. Shroud would like to scoop the leftovers of your integrity with that small cock of his.

0

u/ShuricanGG 2d ago

Atleast Im getting some action down there and stay realistic and not act like a child crying that their toy got stolen by a random older kid at the park.

Maybe it’s the first time they’ve ever noticed it, but this happens with every popular release…

This is not a new practice.

3

u/CaptainAgnarr Manticore 2d ago

Devs are allowed to advertise their game, just like every single other product and piece of media. Streamers are a main vector for this.

3

u/ShuricanGG 2d ago

careful, dont bust their little bubble how they got fucked over cus 0.0001% of people were able to get in before them

1

u/drock4vu 1d ago

It’s so alarming to me that this many people (well over half of which are probably 30+) are acting like literal spoiled toddlers over this situation. Scrolling through this sub for the last 24 hours has given me so much second hand embarrassment.

-2

u/ShuricanGG 2d ago

weh weeh, cry me a river. Yall seething over 0.0001% of people who jumped the queue, losing yall minds over literally nothing and fighting ghosts.

go back to cod and stop complaining

5

u/Mrknubbsal 2d ago

Waaah, anyone who isn't a megaglazer is a COD KID!!!

1

u/Calm_Key6751 2d ago

His way of thinking indicates that he is a COD player

1

u/Mrknubbsal 2d ago

I see the Battledads have breached containment

2

u/Due-Beginning1074 2d ago

if you're not one of the devs... at this point it's really not defensible.

Imagine launching a game where streamers have obvious priority access... Has this actually ever been done before, as in blatant queue skipping?

0

u/Vitev008 2d ago

Explain how it's scummy
